 Name: Huckleberry Finn Derouen "Huckleberry Finn" was the name on his birth certificate. He had it legally changed to just Finn shortly after his eighteenth birthday. Occupation: Ranger with the National Park Service. Part-time cashier, stock-boy, and “adventure expert” at White River Outfitters (he works one shift a week because he doesn't want to give up his discount). Building manager at Florence Court Apartments. Hobbies: Outdoorsman- Finn’s first and greatest love remains the great outdoors. He loves hiking, camping, and kayaking, and is keen to get others to accompany him on weekend trips. He's got a dusty red Jeep that he loves and had a lot of work done on so that it runs "clean" and "eco-friendly.” Since his return from Alaska, Finn has found work at a local outdoor supplies shop, where he puts his experience to good use advising customers on what gear they need for their adventures. Jogging- When Finn needs to decompress and he doesn’t have time to get out of town, he pulls on his running shoes and hits the pavement. His favorite thing to do is to hit a sweet pace and lose himself in his thoughts – jogging lets Finn get his head in order and get a handle on everything he needs to do in the coming days. As a bonus, it’s also a handy cover for when he needs to go out on patrol and needs an excuse about where he’s going. Film buff- Finn likes superhero movies, and nature documentaries, and indie dramas that Netflix recommends to him because he watched My Own Private Idaho and gave it five stars. He can be found at midnight releases for franchises he cares about, and at the end of the day, assuming he doesn’t get called out to fight crime and punch bad guys in the face, likes to unwind by putting a documentary up on the TV and doing his homework. Virtues: Supportive: Finn watches out for his friends, especially when it comes to needing emotional support. While he’s not the person you’d want to ask to feed your fish while you’re on vacation (he’ll forget), he’s a great listener, ready to sacrifice an hour or two of sleep if it means staying on the phone to console someone about a shitty breakup, a bad grade, or pretty much anything. When Finn likes someone, he wants them to be happy, whether happy means reassuring them that everything will be okay when they’re stressed, showing up with a cheesy DVD and a pint of ice cream at the end of a long week, or taking them out for drinks just because. Great Sense of Humor: Finn’s a funny guy, okay? He gets through life by pretending to not take things too seriously and cracking jokes, because he’s pretty sure that if he didn’t laugh at the world, the world would make him want to kill himself. He finds it easy to open up to people and express himself to them, usually by greasing the wheels with a funny remark or two – Finn wants people to like him, and he’s found that making them laugh is a good starting point. Idealistic: Finn tries his hardest to see the best in the world, even when the world is determined to show him its worst. While three years as a knight have smashed his naïveté into itty bitty pieces, he retains he determination and fundamental desire to do good: once Finn sets his mind on something, he doesn’t stop until he’s good and ready to stop. He’s also quick to get involved with things he’s interested in, jumping feet first into experiences and not holding back. Finn believes wholeheartedly in the phrase, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Invested: Finn’s goofy demeanor might make it seem like he doesn’t take anything seriously, but that’s a mistaken first impression. When he cares about something, he cares about it deeply and completely. Failure, betrayal, and emotional hurt strike him to his core. He’s both earnest and honest in his friendships and actions, because he cares what people think of him, he cares about how other people feel, he cares about the results of his actions, and he cares about the world around him. Flaws: Escapist: While he’s trying to improve on this front, Finn’s first response to stress and trauma remains not dealing with it. Whether it’s running off to Alaska, slacking on visiting his wonder, or just pretending that everything is okay when it really isn’t, Finn does everything he can to avoid coming face-to-face with problems, or worse, his own mistakes. This reluctance to confront issues can make Finn come off as unreliable, since when it comes time to be serious and face issues, he does so reluctantly and oftentimes belatedly. Needy: Finn is constantly seeking validation for himself and his actions, usually in the form of wanting to be paid attention to and remembered. He seldom does things just to do them – he wants the world to know and he wants people to have opinions and he wants those opinions to be good but he’ll settle for any opinion at all. He doesn’t do solitude well, and he lives to hear that his friends think he’s important or that he serves an important role in their lives. What Finn dreads most of all is waking up one day all alone, having never amounted to anything and not remembered by anyone. Self-deprecating: The reason Finn needs approval from others is because his personal sense of self-worth isn’t all that great. Whenever something he’s involved with goes wrong, no matter how little he could have done to change the outcome, he has the tendency to automatically assume the blame. Finn beats himself up over failures big and small, regarding himself as being never quite good enough. He has the frustrating tendency to over-apologize and focus on his own perceived failings, even when doing so is the opposite of productive. Argumentative: If Finn thinks your opinions are bad and you should feel bad, he'll let you know. He has a hard time keeping his mouth shut, which can cause friction between himself and others. In cases where it later turns out Finn was right, he has a tendency to crow about it in order to boost his own ego. Physical Description:Eyes: A very “true blue” sort of blue, not particularly light or dark in shade. Naturally very “Deer-in-the-headlights” looking. Attempts to combat this with various worldly squints are utterly unsuccessful. Hair: Light brown, short, and choppy, with uneven bangs and a prominent cowlick,. Face: Square-jawed and classically handsome, but still a little baby-faced. Finn broke his nose in seventh grade, and it’s still slightly crooked, plus it was a bit on the large side to begin with. He has loads and loads of freckles and eyebrows like caterpillars. He also has a very long, straight scar running down the right side of his face, from his temple to his jaw. Build: Finn is 5'7" and 170 lbs, fit but not lean – like a mid-weight boxer. Clothes: Outdoorsy and functional, but still stylish. Finn has abandoned his dumb ironic tee shirts for a more grown-up look involving button-ups, khakis, and flannel.

 Knight Title: Babylon Transcendent Knight of Mercury Challenge: "Follow Me." Signet Ring: Babylon has received his signet ring and knows how to use it. Weapon: Babylon's weapon began as a blue glow-stick before leveling up into a small hurricane lantern and then into the larger, more ornate lantern that he currently carries. Magic:Babylon raises his lantern to eye level, and the light flares to illuminate a circle with a ten-foot radius. Anyone moving within the light for the duration of the spell becomes unable to lie to or otherwise conceal their true intentions from Babylon, including being unable to sneak up on him. This spell can be used for up to two minutes per day, but he does not have to use the entire magic pool all at once. Summons:An average-sized snow leopard, with light gray fur, dark gray spotting, and blue eyes which glow in a way reminiscent of Babylon's lantern. Babylon's ancestor called her by the name Reut, so Babylon calls her Reut as well. Ability: When summoned, Reut functions similarly to a heads-up display and defense system, prowling a wide circle around Babylon. While she pays no attention to attacks that he is aware of and able to defend against, she will intercept an attacker that would otherwise catch Babylon off-guard, absorbing the damage. Once she has absorbed an attack, Reut vanishes and cannot be summoned for twenty-four hours. If the battle ends without Reut absorbing an attack, she may be summoned again in twelve hours. Transcendence:Babylon can visit his wonder twice as often as is normal! Babylon's aura feels slightly odd, and is extra attractive to youma! Babylon can transfer energy to others, accelerating healing and easing fatigue! Personal ItemBabylon possesses an alethiometer, a compass-like device capable of showing what homeworld a Negaverser is most in-tune with and would most likely be a knight of. Anthony Derouen Finn's father teaches American Lit. at Sovereign Heights. Formerly an active participant in all of Finn's hikes, camping trips, and kayaking adventures, Anthony now struggles with steadily worsening arthritis in his knees and back but is intent on continuing to work. Finn's father is deceased. Gwen Derouen Finn's mother, part-time paralegal and one of those ladies at synagogue who is part of a weird, middle-aged clique that plays tennis every tuesday morning. Aggressively liberal and genuinely scary to know during election season. Leah Derouen Finn's little sister, a sophomore at DCU studying music performance. Dyes her hair a different color every month, plays the electric guitar. Herschel and Zelda Berkowitz Finn's maternal grandparents. They live near Boca Raton, Florida. Finn's grandfather escaped from Nazi-occupied Poland as a teenager, smuggling important genealogical documents about Babylon with him. John and Grace Derouen Finn's paternal grandparents. They live in New Orleans, Louisiana. Rich, Catholic, and very conservative, Finn is not close with them currently and has not been in a long time.

 Located at one end of the Caloris Montes in Mercury's northern hemisphere, the ancient Mercurial city of Babylon shone like a beacon in the planet's long night. Known as "He who lights the way," the ancient knight of Babylon was charged with keeping the city's lamps lit, and also to seek those who were lost in the mountains and guide them to safety. They had a reputation for being rugged, competent mountaineers, kind but stern. A knight of Babylon was considered someone who did not suffer fools gladly but would always get the job done. The city was built into the mountainside and stacked upon itself. In places it actually dug back into the mountain. Beyond its southern gates lay the flat crater-plane where the scientists and knights of Mistral made their home, and Babylon provided support and supplies to the science facility, as well as homes for the families of most of the laboratory staff. The knighthoods of Babylon and Mistral had a long and interconnected history - at the fall of the silver Millennium, the titles were held by a brother and sister pair. Finn's last ancestor to hold the title of Babylon Knight was Menachem Ben-Raami, who defended the city until his dying breath and now stands a ghostly vigil over it. Some eighteen years before the Moon Kingdom's end, Babylon and Mistral sent their heirs to Earth, where the lines continued into the present day. It was said that those of pure intentions would always be welcome in Babylon, but anyone with ill will towards the city or any of its inhabitants would never be able to step foot in it. Folklore stated that candlelight would always light your way to Babylon, and should you become lost in the mountains you need only burn a single flare before being rescued. Babylon was home to a sizeable Virgon population and frequently the birthplace of Sailor Virgo's latest incarnation. "The Light of Babylon" was a legendary light wielded by Babylon Knight using a specially constructed lantern. While legends about its origin differ, it is almost certain that it did not originate in Babylon, but was brought back by the city's first knight after a long quest. The light glows a distinctive blue color, and so long as the lantern is undamaged it will burn perpetually - but the lantern is certainly not the true source of the light. Far below the city, in a cavern only ever reached by the knights and their closest confidantes, the light of Babylon blazes eternal.

Solo 5/22/2011 - Good luck moving up because I'm moving out
Finn was never very good at breaking his life down into categories. School friends, camp friends, and synagogue friends had mixed freely throughout his childhood, with him clumsily inviting one or two from one group to a party full of the other. But possessions weren’t friends, and somehow that made them even harder to sort.
Attic, dump, jeep.
Everything in Finn’s life either had to go into the attic, the dump, or the back of his jeep.
“Can I have your room?” asked Leah from the doorway. She had a formerly-white bathroom towel draped around her shoulders. Her hair stuck up at odd angles, slick from dye with a silly name.
“What color are you turning this week?” asked Finn, ignoring the question.
“Purple mountain’s majesty,” she answered, picking hot pink polish off her thumbnail. “So can I have your room or not?”
“You keep dying it and it’s all going to fall out.”
“Says who?”
“Lady Gaga.”
“What do you know about Lady Gaga, Finn?”
“That you can’t have my room because mom’s painting it taupe.”
“Oh, right,” replied Leah, scowling. The paint cans had been lined up against the walls for weeks. As soon as Finn’s stuff was gone, fresh paint would go up over his battered mint green walls and that would be that. New linens, a swanky comforter to replace the Captain Planet and the Planeteers duvet, maybe a framed photograph of some exotic locale, and all evidence of the elder Derouen sibling would be wiped from the room. The only evidence of his existence would be the framed Bar Mitzvah portrait on the mantle and the child-sized handprints in the cement at the end of the driveway.
“Taupe is a ******** boring color,” she added.
“Go wash your hair. I think the dye is lowering your IQ,” said Finn, who still had an entire shelf of soccer trophies from grade school to put into a box. Mom would want to save those, he figured. Eventually Leah left when she realized he wasn’t replying to her snark any longer.
“It’s so stuffy in here,” said Gwen breezily as she breezed into the room. It was at this point that Finn began to wonder if his bedroom was, in fact, Grand Central Station. His mother moved easily towards the window and cracked the shutters open. Finn made a half-hearted comment about the light burning.
Gwen sat prettily on Captain Planet’s face.
Finn resisted all of the jokes in the world. It was very difficult, but anything for his mother. “Hi, Mom,” he said, busying himself with his high school yearbooks. He’d won Most Likely to Save the World, hadn’t he? Well, there we go, thought Finn. Now I’m a kind of lame superhero.
“So, you’re on your way out!” said Gwen, with slightly forced cheeriness. “My little Huckleberry, all grown up!”
Finn could not help but scowl.
“Oh, I know you never liked that name, but—
“You and Dad picked it. I know,” finished Finn. He sealed the box. “I think that’s the last of it. You’re really painting my room… taupe?”
“Taupe’s a lovely color,” said Gwen airily, leaning over to check the plants on the windowsill. “Shouldn’t you take these, sweetheart?”
Finn glanced over at the plants. “Yeah, I guess,” he said, picking the pots up carefully. “Now that’s really all of it,” he added. Gwen nodded.
“Say goodbye to your sister on your way out,” she reminded him.
Finn debated leaving one of the plants with Leah, but decided against it. Knowing her, she would try to smoke it. This would be okay if it was pot, but Finn was growing poison ivy.

Solo 5/23/2011 - The Perks of Being a Superhero
Finn Derouen was fourteen years old when he stopped believing in God. It was early spring, in a freshman history class at Meadowview High School. Their teacher put in a tape about Hiroshima and Nagasaki and left the room. An hour later, Finn emerged, shaken and confused and sickened – and an atheist.
It was four years before he would begin to hesitantly try to believe again. Finn had been looking forward to the sunrise hike up Masada for weeks now, a highlight in a summer program he’d been stubbornly trying to dislike. Standing there, watching the sunrise over the Dead Sea, Finn sensed a whiff of the divine.
Now, flipping the glowstick back and forth between his hands, he wasn’t so sure.
He was getting better at dusting Youma – that, at least, felt like an accomplishment. Moving away from his parents let him come and go as he pleased and patrol the Sovereign Heights campus in the dead of night. Since the rabbit he’d been hard pressed to come up with a new art project, but he was working on it: the roofs were in reach, for himself and for Dietrich. When he finally made his comeback, he was going to make it good.
But there was still something odd about those words he uttered every time he lit up: Babylon Page of Mercury. Babylon, an ancient metropolis. Mercury, a planet. Babylon – Alas, Babylon. He read that book again. It was better than in high school. Word association, another Youma dusted. There was a lot of flailing involved. A lot of cursing. His screams of “******** ******** ********” could be heard all the way across campus.
After a week of this, a black eye, a bruised back, and a twisted wrist, Finn declared it was time to take a weekend off. He wasn’t the most dedicated magical crime fighter, but he only knew a few other people in the business and it didn’t seem fair to toss your whole self in at once. Not when so many people had a leg up.
So he went to the woods, looking for God, but his mind kept drifting back to Babylon Mercury Babylon Mercury What the ******** kind of weapon was a glowstick until he just had to take it out and turn it over and over trying to figure it out. It never dimmed, from what he could tell, but it was always the same one. Most glowsticks would fade after a day or two, but this one just kept glowing its same unearthly blue, never dimmer nor brighter. No matter what he hit it against, it never broke or cracked – only curved a little bit, sometimes, with enough pressure.
An elephant could sit on it and it would just keep glowing, thought Finn. And then, since he was already wearing his Nanook of the North getup, decided to test out the new jumping skills some: He’d always wondered what it would be like to travel through the pine trees rather than under them.
So up he went. And up he stayed. And it was awesome until he misestimated a jump and a rotting branch fell out from under him and he wound up sprawled on his back on the forest ********,” muttered Finn. “******** ******** ********.” He didn’t want to get up. Not yet. The birds were laughing at him, he just knew it. Any plans to try that again any time soon were scratched of his list indefinitely.
The sun was coming slanted through the trees in long orange rays by the time Finn picked himself up out of the leaf litter and limped back to the parking lot. On second thought, he realized, as he collapsed into the jeep, he was lucky to be alive at all after a fall like that.
Finn smiled to himself.
Being a superhero had its merits.

Solo 6/9/2011 - A Question of Mountains and Gods
Weeks later, Babylon was still working on the God problem. There was magic in the world – that he was certain of. But where it came from, nobody knew. Well, he reasoned, someone must, but he certainly didn’t, even if it was a fascinating prospect, and-
”I pledge my life and loyalty to Mercury, and to Babylon. I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine.”
Words he’d never heard, whispered in his own voice at the back of his head. Babylon froze, halfway down the alley, and looked around. It was empty. No knights, no senshi, no monsters – not even a talking cat. (God forbid another talking cat.) But the voice. The whisper. The tickle at the edge of his consciousness. Unfamiliar words spoken in his own voice, and the tug – the tug, drawing his eyes upwards towards a bright star on the horizon.
Babylon Page was hardly an astronomer, but he found the words on his lips before he could stop himself. The pinprick of light was Mercury, and it was calling to him in a language he did not entirely speak. Go to your wonder, Lina had told him, and he’d told her not to be stupid, it was a war zone-
But the words bubbled forth. “I pledge my life and loyalty to Mercury, and to Babylon,” whispered the boy. “I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine-“
For a moment, he felt truly transcendental.
Then he just felt cold. Babylon opened eyes he had not realized he had closed and pulled his snow goggles over his eyes. The wind howled around him and tried its hardest to cut through his fur coat, but the Nanook of the North getup seemed to be intended specifically for this kind of weather.
The boy, however, was not. The cutting wind threw him against a rock wall until he scrabbled into a crevasse. Then, as his eyes adjusted to the gloom and he began to recover from the howling wind outside, he realized the crevasse was actually a doorway: he was standing in the foyer of a house cut out of stone.
More Petra than Babylon, he thought to himself, and turned around to look out the way he had just come. It was difficult to see into the dark – he could only see the room he was standing in because of his weapon’s sickly blue glow – but it didn’t look like the Middle East and it didn’t look like the Babylon he’d read about.
“At least it’s not a war zone,” he sighed, and sat down on a bench inside the foyer.
“Are you what’s become of us?” asked a voice from the darkness, and Babylon nearly fell off his seat. He looked up. A glowing blue figure was approaching through the ********, man,” said Babylon breathlessly, but the man did not slow his approach.
“Are you Babylon Page of Mercury?” demanded the man.
“Yes!” replied Babylon, after a moment’s hesitation, mostly because he was terrified. The man stopped. He looked disappointed.
He shook his head at Babylon. “You are a child,” he said, and continued across the room without stopping, moving out into the storm. Babylon got to his feet and followed him.
“Wait, wait,” he cried, following the man against the wind, up a sloping street lined with houses carved out of the mountain. “Who are you? Where are we?”
The man-ghost paused at the top of the street and looked back at him. “I am Babylon,” he yelled back. “This, all around us, is the city of Babylon, on the planet Mercury, at the base of the Caloris Mountains. And if you are Babylon, then you are what our line has been reduced to.”
“Wait a second!” Cried the present Babylon, and charged up the slope, but the man disappeared into the wind. What he saw next made him forget all about it, though. The page froze in his tracks.
Laid out before him, stretching across the dark surface of the world, was a craggy mountain range a thousand kilometers long, vanishing into the distance. And over the horizon – the first glimmers of daylight.
Babylon’s breath caught in his throat. The God problem was not resolved, but it was beginning to look incredibly likely.
