Back dating this to before the kidnapping.

The historical district in the city was not an area he ever ventured, he had never had an interest or reason to do so, but in order to avoid being easy to track he knew it was good to never keep to the same areas for long. That was an old lesson he'd gotten years ago and he'd true to it since. This was an area he'd never been to and it was about time he venture into this part of Destiny City.

It was, upon his arrival, noted to be vastly different from the rest of the city. The buildings weren't so tall and not nearly as modern either. Tilting his head as he stepped off the building roof he let himself fall to the ground, where he landed lightly on his feet. Feeling rather safe, and confident, he ignored the aura of order that wasn't all that far off, he started down the sidewalk his boots clicking against the cobbled sidewalk.

As he walked, and relaxed more, his gloved hands slipped into the pockets of his coat. It wasn't that warm of a night, nor was it cold, so the uniform wasn't such a bad thing this evening and left him feeling comfortable temperature wise which was good, he was tired of melting in his uniform with the heat they'd had most of this summer. As a breeze blew his bangs across his face he leaned into the breeze, as if it were a caress against his fair flesh, and let his eyes drift closed for a moment. It really was a pleasant night and that signature he felt would not bother him - he wouldn't permit it.

Passing by an antique book shop he turned his eyes to the store window and slowly came to a stop and turned fully to the shops window and stood peering inside. He liked books, he liked to learn, but musty books? Really? Maybe he would check some of them out when it was day time and see if any might interest Katya. That cat did have a healthy thirst for books, if the amount of books he had him check out at the library was anything to go by, and perhaps would like something that was no only useful but was expensive and valuable? It would certainly please her, though how much he didn't know, it was certainly worth a walk around the store tomorrow.

Stepping closer to the glass window, in order to read the titles off the books displayed beyond the glass, he scanned over the old covers in the hopes of something jumping out at him and striking him as something she'd like. Though the price might become an issue also...hmmm how to get her a book and explain the price to his parents...? Something to ponder further when the sun was up.

It wasn't often that Babylon felt a general cross into his patrol area. Old Town Destiny City didn't have many bars or clubs where energy gathering could be most effective. In fact, most places closed by ten. There was a twenty-four hour bodega on the corner that had been there since the 50s and he was pretty sure that was it in terms of night life. So: who was darkening his doorstep, and why were they here?

Babylon moved carefully, although his bright aura allowed him very little in the way of stealth. A general could be a dangerous adversary if they'd come prepared to fight - he doubted that he would win over anyone armed with a blade. Avalon, even as a captain, had fought him into submission.

He found the general paused outside an antique bookstore, which was a pretty typical business for this part of town. Also... it had closed at five. "I think you'll have to come back another time," said Babylon, making himself known as he hopped down from the top of the delicatessen across the street. "Owners generally like to lock up early. I'd suggest you aim to get here no later than four if you want to look around."

Babylon took in the scene in front of him. "So," he said conspiratorially. "No prowling youma. No civilian in distress. I take it you're not here on official Legion of Evil business. Don't mind me - just the neighborhood watch. If you're looking for something specific, I've reviewed most of the places around here on Yelp."

Turning, having felt the incoming signature, he smiled. "Of course, just seeing if I notice anything of interest." He'd be by tomorrow anyway, when they were open. "I've no idea what sort of books would be old enough to be in such a store." He read books, yes, but did he have a clue what books were being published how long ago? Nope. How old did something need to be to be considered an antique anyway?

Looking the knight over, white uniform and glowing facial marks, he figured he might have something in common with Ganymede who had an unusual aura and glow as well - how interesting. "Four...to look around. It's not that large of a store I assume then?" He questioned and glanced back inside as if to gauge it's size. Seemed a bit small but how many books did those cases hold? Perhaps three, just to afford extra time in case.

"Legion of Evil...interesting name. Though I do think that might offend some people. As for youma and civilians...well I could change that if you'd prefer it? Otherwise - no. No youma about and no civilians in sight to be distressed." Just a night in a new area as he expanded his range and a simple run in, thus far anyway. Pressing his back to the glass window he looked the other over and tilted his head to the side.

"I was told once, when I was a Lieutenant, to not stick to the same area. If you do people get used to it and know where to find you. It's a good way of making yourself vulnerable. I've taken that advice to heart ever since. I'm just expanding my range tonight. This store just caught my attention as I know a guardian cat who might find interest in some old books." He'd reviewed most of the places here though? So he'd come here while powered down, no way could he walk into a place powered up and be serviced. Someone would have called the cops and it would have made the news, and gotten back to the Negaverse.

"Had you said that to someone else you'd have just put yourself at possible risk. You just told me that you come here, often, as a civilian and that comments on yelp can be checked as well and a list of names found and cross referenced with all the stores here on yelp and who has reviewed most of them." Not that he planned to do any of that but it was best to tell the other he'd made a slip up - right? "Don't worry though, I'm not about to do such nor tell anyone else." You're safe." Pushing off the glass window he held out a gloved hand. "Benitoite."

Babylon shrugged genially. "Old and out-of-print stuff," he said. "Anthropological studies from the 1900s. Old political essays and biographies. They have some first-edition Mark Twains that I've looked at, but, alas, out of my price range." And who would he buy them for, anyway? His father would have appreciated them as a collector's piece, but Babylon preferred books of the not-irreplaceable variety.

He smirked - it was hard to imagine that someone would go through all that work just to possibly find his civilian identity, and based on a joke, anyway. It was too much work for Benitoite, anyway, although Babylon wasn't one to judge. "Babylon knight of Mercury," he replied, shaking the offered hand. "Can't say I'm pleased to have you for a neighbor, but that's nothing personal."

Blame it on those pesky, pesky alignments!

"This guardian cat of yours," he said, looking over the books in the case, "she a fan of non-fiction? Or is she more interested in having a great collection to squirrel away behind the couch? Mauvians, man. You know, I've gotta wonder if they actually look like cats or if that's just something they do to make us humans comfortable. Weird that the Negaverse works with 'em - you know they're space aliens? From space?"

Out of print stuff, ok that was something he figured. But were any the books still being printed? he didn't ask as the other explained further. Some of those books Katya might like, biographies she might like and political things perhaps but he would find something for her, it didn't seem like it would be a hard thing. The others description of the books held within the shop was useful and assured him he'd find something for the cat which lived with him.

"Better me than someone less friendly." He said when the hand shake had ended and his hand dropped back to his side. "You could have far less pleasing neighbors." He could have a more blood thirsty General, or even Captain, who would have already gone for the kill on him - no questions or words spoken.

"She's a fan of historical things. She likes to learn from things which have already happened - battle tactics and other things. She's not much for flowery books and stories." No, she liked to deal with knowledge and truths. She was an interesting cat to be sure. "She has a collection of books I've borrowed, my personal books aren't an interest to her." But he'd borrowed a lot of books from the library and she was working on getting the hang of using his laptop as well so she could find more things.

"That could be the case and yes, I'm aware of what they are. It may be one reason why the youma don't like them. The youma don't like the corrupted senshi, they only like the one ascended corrupt senshi we have," Alkaid. He'd heard of her, seen her file, but he'd never met her and wasn't so sure he wanted to meet her. "Beyond that however I was likely once a knight or I've descended from one. So perhaps I was once an alien as well." Not something he was fond of but he'd admit to it.

Benitoite's tone struck Babylon as being vaguely threatening, but he wasn't going to say so. Meeting with Negaversers was fraught by definition, and he didn't want to make this encounter any worse than it had to be. If Benitoite began to prey on civilians in the neighborhood, then Babylon would reevaluate his options.

"We're all a little bit alien," he said. "Being the last surviving outpost of a vast, galaxy-spanning trade empire tends to result in that, it's just some of us are more willing to admit it than others. I mean - maybe there's till a vast alien empire out there, and we're being purposefully quarantined. Prepared for harvest and processing into alien drugs. I don't presume to know these things."

However, if Benitoite didn't recognize the plot of Jupiter Ascending when it was repeated to him verbatim, Babylon would be very sad indeed.

"Personally, my ancestors came from Mercury, and from Virgo before that," he said, and considered the alethiometer in his coat pocket. "Have you ever wondered what kind of alien you are?"

"A little bit alien...perhaps. I wouldn't think the normal civilians, though perhaps a bit over time, as for us all..well it seems likely, or at least more likely." Shrugging his shoulders the petite general glanced over the other before casting his slate hied eyes onto the street and surrounding buildings.

"We may not be the last outpost, as you said. We could be one of a few remaining planets. The universe is far too large to presume such, which I why I don't understand how some people can think we're the only planet with life on it, and the universe is expanding. Planets being destroyed and others forming." It made sense to think they weren't the only planet hosting life, at least not at this point. "And we could be the only one not involved in trade that the other planets may be involved in...due to whatever reason - let's hope it's not your idea. I don't fancy the idea of having to fight against such a race or races." He said trailing off as he ran his fingers through his hair, tucking his bangs back behind his ears. Nope, he hadn't gotten the reference as he was clueless and didn't watch such movies.

The question startled him and had him turning his attention back onto the other. "Until recently - no. After a visit to Polaris...yes. But there is no way to know that. no memories from us."

The reference went straight over the general's head. Babylon grimaced and then tried to rein it in. Earth was the last planet left, at least as far as he'd ever been told - but that point seemed like it wasn't worth arguing at this juncture. Benitoite hadn't picked up on his joke, and Babylon would rather not explain. "Do me a favor," he said, "and get a Netflix account."

He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the silver compass. "No memories, sure," Babylon acknowledged. "But no way of knowing? Whoever told you that has probably never met me."

Flipping the cover of the alethiometer open, Babylon held it up to show Benitoite the dial. "Neat little piece of technology," he explained. "Reads your starseed, identifies what planet you're aligned with. So - do you want to find out?"

"I have an account there..." Who didn't have one? But obviously there was some movie he needed to see...something he'd missed somehow - but what? He assumed he'd fine it in whatever movie he should have seen...or should see.

It was the change in topic, and the silver compass the other held, which drew the Generals attention and he stared for a moment. "How can you know? it would seem impossible to identify who I've come from, genetically, or who I once was as I'm sure things have changed." Such as the uniform, style of hair, build and everything else simply due to genetics being different as his parents were clearly not the same people. And if he was related to a previous knight...well it had been how long since then? The genetic pool would include how many other things?

"it can read my starseed?" he questioned while raising a gloved hand and poking at the dial, skeptical of what the other said. "It can't hurt to let you try this on me." He'd dealt with pain before, being corrupted and than becoming a Captain and a General - that was pain. "And how will you know the planet? Does it tell you in written word?" He questioned, honestly wanting to know. There were how many planets and stars out there - big selection there.

Babylon was always happy to explain how his alethiometer worked - especially to people who seemed a bit confused about how this whole knight thing worked in general. "See the symbols on the dial?" he asked. "There's sort of a limited number of options for knighthoods. Nine planets, Cosmos, couple of independent royals. It spins, it lines up with the arrow, I read it off to you."

"It would be better if I just showed you," he added, adjusting the outer ring on the alethiometer so that the indicator pointed towards Benitoite. The dial began to spin, the symbols blurring. Then, the spin slowed to wide arcs, twisting one way and then the other, narrowing in with each swing.

And then, finally, stopping.

Babylon looked up. "Castor," he said. "Your prince is an a*****e. Sorry about that."

Yes, it would be best to see how it worked rather than the other explain it, as he was fairly sure a verbal explanation would just confuse him. He was not good with Knight things and technology like this, he was good with the modern kind they had now. This was not even close to what they had now, especially since it could read a starseed.

Standing still as the knight set it up and it started to work he watched as it slowed slowly and then came to a stop. For a moment he wanted to be like a child and ask the ever childish question 'well?' but he didn't and waited instead.

He might have asked about this Castor but the other spoke first and the General broke out laughing. "I'll keep that in mind and hope I don't meet him. I'd ask you not to tell them if they are as you say." There was likely nothing they could talk about, since he was a Negaverse officer, and the other was a royal so they were on opposite sides and not likely to get along.

"Yeah," said Babylon, laughing a little uneasily. "I doubt that don't kill me, I'm one of your knights would get you very far with Castor unless you had intentions of purifying." And even then, he'd grasped that the prince of hail was an a*****e to new and potential converts.

Tucking the alethiometer back into his coat, Babylon asked, "Does it change anything for you to know what you would be?"

"Lovely to know. I don't have any plans of such, I would wish to forget my family and friends or to live on without them in my life." Shrugging his shoulders. he didn't give away that he wasn't loyal. Let Babylon deduce whatever he wanted from the simple sentence he'd said.

"Perhaps. Were it Polaris I'd be telling her and perhaps seeking to spend more time up there with her." But if the senshi of Castor was an a*****e - yeah no. But also he wasn't about to make friends with someone who wouldn't tolerate him unless he was willing to change sides; as that wasn't about to happen. "From the sound of it this Prince isn't one I'd wish to deal with and speak to anyway. Not everyone in the Negaverse is bad. Not to mention some evil is needed to balance out the good." One could not be had without the other, they went hand in hand.

At least Benitoite could be frank about what side of things he was on - better than people who insisted that Chaos was, somehow and perversely, the good guys. "Sorry I don't have better news," he sighed. "You don't seem like you're interested in purification, so, like, I'm not gonna do the whole come to the light side we have Wonders shpiel."

Or was he? Babylon paused. He'd at least thought about it enough to decide what half of his memories he'd prefer to lose, which by itself was a weird thing to consider.

Not that Babylon was a member of the Negaverse, so it wasn't like he had a very good perspective on what they got up to in their down time. Maybe considering which half of your memories you'd rather lose was just a thing for them. Maybe they also gave consideration to which arm they'd rather have replaced with a youma part, or which foot they're rather be shot in.

"Anyway, this has been fun," he said.

"it's fine. I don't look for rainbows, sunshine, and unicorns . I take what is given to me and deal with it." Either by accepting it or trying to change it to what he wanted it to be, like he was trying to do ever so slowly with the Negaverse. He had a lot to do - too much it felt like. At least he was making some progress; even if it was terribly slow. "No, I'm not but don't let the uniform and aura fool you. Talk to Polaris if you want to know more...I'd rather not speak in the open of such things. But I'll say that a uniform is much like a book cover - not the whole story." He wore the uniform of the Negaverse, carried a high rank, and his aura screamed chaos and darkness but he was far from it, at least in his opinion.

"Indeed, and thank you for the information. If you need anything...send word to Polaris and she will contact me. She knows how to reach me if for some reason you need something from my side." Who knows what someone would need in this war, what they might want as well. He would offer his help if he could but through as round about, and safe, way.
