Vindemiatrix's heart fluttered with excitement as he rushed to the rooftop where he had agreed to meet Babylon. It was Valentine's weekend, and he had yet to show his boyfriend his new Super Senshi attire. Each by itself would have been enough to get the Senshi of Wine pumped. Both together?
There was definitely some rooftop ballet going on as Vin made his way downtown.
He had told Babylon nothing of what his plans were, only that he wanted to meet him for a surprise. Vindemiatrix planned to take him to his planet again, if he consented to the trip, because the arching bridges and ancient fountains just seemed like they would make for a truly unique Valentine experience. What other boy in creation could take Babylon to space Venice?

After missing the Jovians meeting the night before (He'd had a lot to think about, okay?), Babylon was glad that his Valentine's day plans with Vindemiatrix were still intact. Still, he was sort of worried that missing a team meeting required more apology than just, "I love you," and there was something sort of weirdly monumental about making it to a third Valentine's day as a couple. (Even if he had been in Alaska last year and settled for sending action figures and a Skype call.) The knight made sure to show up early, so he was already waiting when Vindemiatrix arrived. There was a bubbly feeling in his stomach, giddy and nervous. They'd gone to Vin's asteroid before, but that had just been to look around - who knew what Vin had planned for tonight? When Vindemiatrix touched down on the edge of the roof, Babylon jogged over and kissed him hello (he'd missed getting to kiss his boyfriend on the regular, for serious). "Oh wow, Super looks great on you!" he said enthusiastically, fidgeting with the gift-bag in his hands. Everyone was powering up and here he was trying to figure out what the ******** to do with himself. "I uh, got some stuff, but you can wait until we're in space to open it if you want." He figured that the senshi of wine would be the last person in the world to have qualms about underage drinking. But there was also candy. And an action figure. Because Babylon believed in being prepared.

Vindemiatrix responded favorably to the hello kiss, grasping some of the fur trim of Babylon's uniform for a moment to keep him close a moment longer. Then he stepped back and twirled in a circle, feeling a bit like his little sister as he laughed at the cape-like vest he now wore billowing out behind him.
"Thanks," he replied, unable to stop grinning. "I like it. A little warmer now, with the sleeves. I look like I belong in Venice or something."
The Senshi of Wine twirled again. "Speaking of which ... you ready to go?" He produced his senshi phone with a flourish, almost like he had practiced, and extended his other white-gloved hand to his boyfriend.

"Yeah, well, suits you perfectly, then," Babylon replied, laughing as Vindemiatrix spun. He couldn't see whatever visions it was that Vin had on his asteroid, so he could only go off the present, but the direction his uniform was taking seemed like a perfect match for his homeworld. And, speaking off! "Very nice," the knight observed, giving Vin's little flourish a round of golf-claps. As he accepted the offered hand, he considered the likelihood that Vin had practiced that little move in front of a mirror - probably, but then, Babylon had a tendency to do much of the same when he wanted to seem suave. (Although he seldom succeeded in actually being suave.) "Alright," he said, giving Vin's fingers an apprehensive squeeze. From what he recalled, side-along Senshi space travel felt... a little different from knight travel. "Can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be tonight."

Vindemiatrix's boost in power, coupled with the fact that he had made several trips already, ensured that he landed himself and his boyfriend comfortably on his planet, outside of a fountain. It also felt like it took less of his energy this time, as well, though the trip still left him winded from taking a passenger.
The boys arrived on the planet Vindemiatrix on a beach, their first time setting foot on natural soil rather than time-worn cobblestones. The city was a short distance away, with a ramp sloping down the height of a seawall providing a route from road to sand. Small waves lapped at the shore, and beyond, the sea stretched towards the horizon. The seawall stretched more or less parallel to the shore for as far as the pair would be able to see, before the slight turns and slopes of sand hid the rest of the path from view.
Some way off down the shore in the opposite direction, a dock stretched out into the water before crumbling into the sea, and a few pieces of worn timber jutted up from the waves nearby.
Vin lifted his head when he caught his breath, then stretched upwards as he grinned at Babylon. "Okay, I swear I didn't plan to land here, but this is basically perfect, I think," he said eagerly.

"Wow," breathed Babylon, looking around in wonderment as his vision cleared. This was a very different part of the planet than they'd last visited - even though it had been some two years, he remembered the Venice-like city from their first visit with absolute clarity. "You know, even if you didn't plan it - you did well." For emphasis, he leaned over and pressed a kiss to Vindemiatrix's cheek. "God," he breathed, taking off his cloak and folding it over his arms. "It's nice here," he said. Winter in Fairbanks started in approximately September, and it was still February in Destiny City, so coming somewhere temperate was a hugely nice change. Babylon unbuttoned the top buttons of his coat and considered shedding it entirely, something he hadn't done since his time on the Surrounding, years ago. "Okay," Babylon said, looking around, staring off down the beach for a moment, and then pulling his attention back to his boyfriend beside him. "Lead the way, yeah?" He'd follow Vindemiatrix pretty much anywhere, and seeing as they were on his planet, well, Babylon was pretty sure Vin had plans for them. His heart made a funny little lurch. Plans, he thought, honestly completely clueless - but looking forward to finding out.

Vin took a moment to pull off his white gloves, and tucked them behind his new wide gold belt before reaching out for Babylon's hand. "I guess we'll just walk, and see where we go," he suggested, then turned away from the wreckage of the old pier.
"Let's see if we can find the edge of the city. I haven't been here a whole lot, but all I've ever seen is this city." Well, a city, but Vin had a feeling in the back of his mind that each visit had all been to roughly the same place. "I wish I knew what this place looked like from space, too, like if there's more land, or if it's mostly water like it looks like from here."
An impish smile crossed his face as the breeze coming in off the water stirred his bleached fringe. "If we find a space ship, we should totally try to fly it."

Babylon nodded, giving Vindemiatrix's hand a squeeze. "Whatever you want to do," he said, since he wasn't exactly in a position to lead a tour of someone else's homeworld! "You could probably find, like, some kind of scientific survey of how big this place is supposed to be," he said thoughtfully, walking beside the senshi like a loyal puppy, with just a bit of spring in his step. "Don't think they can see the ocean from space, though," he added. They all knew about plenty of things that would have the scientific community in an uproar. "Anyway, we can look for as long as you want. I'm happy just to spend time with you. And-" He grinned excitedly at the prospect of finding some ancient technology and taking it for a joy ride. "That sounds amazing. I am fully in favor of space ships."

Vindemiatrix stopped a moment to just grin at Babylon and his enthusiasm, then leaned in to give him a quick peck on the cheek. "Maybe next time we come here, we can bring paper and pencils and try to make our own map, too," he suggested. It would be a great excuse to explore even further with his boyfriend. Probably a bit time-consuming, as well. Perfect.
"I wonder what other plants and stuff grew here, too," he went on, looking around again. "I mean, besides the green stuff in the fountains and the weedy things between some of the cobblestones. There aren't any seagulls overhead, unless they're invisible or something...." Vin trailed off, looking upwards until his hat started to slide from his head.
Fixing it then, he looked to Babylon. "What's your wonder like, by the way? Cold, I guess, by the way you're dressed?" Another cheeky smile. "Any space ships still in working order?" The Senshi of Wine was definitely curious, but he did not want to force Babylon to take him there if he didn't want to.

Babylon had an embarrassing number of wilderness survival courses under his belt and that had included an elective class in surveying and mapmaking, so all this sounded more than good to him. "We can try to get a grasp of how big the island is, yeah," he agreed. "I could bring a pedometer and a compass and we could pace it off." And he blushed at the peck on his cheek, because he was still giggly and excited around Vindemiatrix - absence made the heart grow a lot fonder. "Plants," he said thoughtfully, glancing around. His own wonder was barren as far as he could tell, never mind the dead trees. Europa had gotten sick eating space plants, so at least he knew they were a thing. Or hadn't hers come from earth? "I'd bet on grapes," he said, after a while spent looking up and contemplating the absent seagulls. "You're senshi of wine, after all. Wouldn't you bet on grapes?" It just made sense, he thought, reaching over to give Vindemiatrix's hat a pat. Not that Vin had fixed it askew, but... He just wanted to touch it. The knight smiled. "No space ships, no," he said, wondering what his ancestor would make of the senshi he liked to kiss. "And yeah. Mercury's, like, really cold?" He didn't totally get how that worked. Eternal night or something like that. "Anyway, it's a city up in the mountains. I could, uh. I could take you there sometime. If you wanted to go?" He reached over, slipping his fingers between the senshi's. "So how've you been?" he asked.

"Oh, right, grapes, duh," Vin laughed at hismelf. "I guess the weather here does feel sort of like Italy, or at least parts of it. My family's from inland, though, not on the coast."
He frowned a little. "I'm better now that I'm back here-- well, you know, in Destiny City. It was nice visiting my uncle and helping him out and all, but it's also just rough seeing him sick, you know?" Looking upwards, he took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I like staying there better under happier circumstances."
Turning back to Babylon, he smiled again. "I missed you. And if you'd like to show me your planet sometime, I'd be game."
Another idea struck him. "If we do find grapes here still growing, we should totally try to make wine out of them. How crazy would that be, having alien wine?"

Babylon nodded. Having never been to Italy himself, he couldn't well judge the climate and how it compared. "Sorry about your uncle," he said awkwardly, not really sure how to respond. God, sympathy was hard to make sound sincere, even when it was. He wasn't even sure he knew what is was Vindemiatrix's uncle had - or how to ask without being tremendously weird. "Yeah, I'll take you when we've got a good chance to go," he said happily, glad for the change of subject. "You might want to bring a coat." But anyway, space grapes. It seemed like a good time to point out what had happened to Europa. "Not to be a total buzzkill, because, like, space wine sounds totally awesome? But you know, Europa got, like, crazy, medically-induced-coma sick from eating stuff she was growing on her moon? So we should be careful about it." He liked his kidneys. He liked Vin's kidneys. It was in their best interest that all their kidneys continued to work. Wine, though. He held up the gift bag. "We could take a break?" Babylon suggested. "I want to show you what I brought."

Vindemiatrix understood the awkwardness of sympathy, but naturally trusted Babylon's sincerity. He was not opposed to the idea of talking about it with him in general, but today did not seem like the right day for it. They were supposed to be having fun.
What had happened to Europa was a sobering thought, as well. "Wow that really sucks," he offered, not really sure how else to put it. "I guess if we do find space grapes, we could try bringing one back for tests or something before we try the space wine, then. The people here I've seen in my visions look like us, at least, so hopefully stuff that they could drink is safe for us, too."
But, of course, more immediately, they had the contents of Babylon's bag to explore. "Oh, sure." A smile returned to Vin's lips, and he pointed to a place perhaps a hundred yards ahead where one of the white stone city's towers had toppled over the seawall, across the beach, and into the shallows. "Let's just get up to that wrecked tower and we can sit up there for a break?" the Senshi of Wine suggested.

Glad that he'd staved off the possibility of getting sick off space grapes for the moment, voiced his agreement and followed Vindemiatrix up onto the wreckage. The tower seemed stable and sturdy enough for something that had collapsed over the centuries, and it didn't take long to amble down towards the water. "So," Babylon said, sitting down and patting the spot next to him. He smiled up at his boyfriend. "This is really nice. Figures your asteroid would basically be a resort." Reaching into the bag he'd brought, he held up the bottle of wine. "I've got no idea if this is any good or not." It was something cheap and white that he'd picked up at the grocery store on the stockboy's recommendation. He set the bottle down on a flat spot of plaster and then placed a corkscrew carefully beside it. Next, Babylon pulled a box of chocolates out of the bag. "These," he said, "I know are actually good. They're from a local chocolate place. Kind of an assortment. Should be a chart on the lid." With his free hand, he dug a giftwrapped box out of the bag and held it out. "And this is for you," said Babylon with a grin. "Sorry, I got kind of excited about unpacking everything at once."

Vindemiatrix took the bottle carefully, turning it over in his hands as he scanned the label. "I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm hardly a connoisseur, so I wouldn't know what to complain about." He laughed a little, then frowned. "Oh, s**t, we have a few bottles from the vineyard in Italy. I should have brought one."
Looking to Babylon again, he promised, "Next time, I guess. And we probably shouldn't get too drunk up here in space anyway."
He was about to get into all the chocolates when his boyfriend withdrew the third, wrapped package. "Thanks," Vin replied with a wide grin. "Am I allowed to open it now?" Part of him hoped that Babylon had not gotten him anything really expensive, since all Vin had done for the holiday was take them both to his abandoned planet. Resort was a good way to describe it, he supposed, and they did have the privacy, though.
