Finn Derouen rocked back and forth on his heels outside the antiques store, gazing at the window display with casual abandon. There was some difference between this store and the place he had bought his "Jimmy Carter for President" shirt (currently worn, thank you very much), except Finn was too lazy to figure out exactly what the dividing line was between "vintage" and "antique."
He scratched his chin thoughtfully. It was barely stubbly. He'd shaved more than half a week ago. Such was life. It was time to go inside.
The door jangled when he opened it. Finn sort of hated when they did that because it usually meant a salesperson would be on you like white on rice in five seconds flat. And that was exactly what happened, except this time it was okay, because--
"Hypatia!" exclaimed Finn, beaming widely at his friend who had appeared from somewhere behind an old oak boudoir. Growing up as two kids with bizarre names beginning with the letter H, he and Hypatia had gotten to know each other well. "Listen, I need furniture."
Yes, Finn, this was typically why people went into antique stores.
"I mean, I'm moving in with Tate in a week and a half - did she tell you she probably told you - and I have, like, nothing. My parents say I can't take my stuff from home, they need it when they turn my room into a guest bedroom."

Hypatia descended down upon her friend as she heard him enter the store, having been expecting him. "You're totally late, Finn," she chided, but he was still there to rescue her from her rather boring existence at the shop today and that totally deserved a hug. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders and giving him a light kiss on the cheek, she made a face. "You're totally stubbley, don't you ever shave?" Truth be told, it wasn't that bad, but Hypatia was sensitive to Finn's manly need for facial hair.
"Tate called ahead to warn me you were going to show up, so I've got some stuff picked out to show you already." She was ever organized, and crooked a finger to get Finn to follow her. "I picked out the most expensive stuff possible, since I know you're just loaded," she commented, looking over her shoulder to grin at her high school friend. Idly, Hypatia wondered what her mothers were going to do with her old room, now that she was moved out and living on her own in the same building as Tate and Finn. She hoped they just didn't do anything too weird with it. A yoga room would be okay, actually, now that she thought about it. She'd suggest it next time the three of them go together for lunch.
"Isn't it kind of weird that they want guests to be sleeping on your bed? I wouldn't want random family members staying in my bed. It's just weird."

"Mom said something about painting it taupe and buying new sheets," said Finn, pulling a face. He did, however, note with pride that she had commented on his stubble. This was the kid who had spent all of senior year unsuccessfully trying to grow a goatee. He still couldn't.
"Oh god, please say you didn't..." sighed Finn, following her into the store. His usual refrain was that his parents were rich, and he personally wasn't. This was bullshit: Finn had no steady job and a credit card linked to his father's account.
"But yeah, it is pretty weird," he added, following her back into the store. He tried to tell himself it was made less weird by the new linens that would be going on his bed, but it was still hard to imagine a visiting aunt or cousin sleeping in his old bed.
"Actually, I'm kind of tempted to take those old sheets and burn them."
This probably had something to do with the fact that they were Captain Planet printed and from the year 1994.
"I'm keeping the duvet cover, though," added Finn. "So what have you got for me?
