Bifrost had never directly talked to the Knight of Mercury so it seemed odd that she would be writing a small letter and sending it to him. Even odder that she still preferred to send letters than holomail. Perhaps it had something to do with her study on her wonder, the small room only she had access to. Prena was no where visable, though Bifrost could feel her presence. The Squire fluffed her invisible wings and pressed her ring to seal the letter and send it off.Babylon Mr. Babylon, if you have time, I'd like to talk to you about those glowing marks on your cheeks and how they came to be. I have some questions I cannot find answers to. Please meet me on the Surrounding in front of the Bifrost, an outcropping with a pedestal, if you'd be willing to talk. - Bifrost Squire of Chronos The letter was stiff and a little awkward to read, but nevertheless it would do its job.
No, Bifrost had never really spoken to Babylon, but he had something she did not: glowing tattoos. She had gained them in the memories of the... future? Alternate time line? Paradox space? Whatever it was, Bifrost had had them. She couldn't quite remember what they were, except that they were gold, and more band like than the little marks on the Knight of Mercury. She had no memory of how she attained this, so asking the one person who had it in the present was a good start.
You're inviting a visitor? her ancestor asked quietly. Prena phased into existence for a moment as Bifrost nodded.
"I am, since none of the text in here describes what I'm curious about. You're free to stay in here if you'd like; he's a Knight of Mercury," she said, stacking the books on the desk into a nice pile. She'd have to wait outside, since he couldn't get into the room himself. Hmm, probably good idea to bring a few pillows and blankets with her.
I'll observe if that's alright. I am... curious as well. Bifrost smiled at her ancestor and carried her things out onto the balcony. Space was cold, and the irridescent marble that her wonder was built out of was colder. Prena floated next to her. Out of kindness, she placed a third pillow for her ancestor and plopped down onto the middle one.
Now to wait to see if Babylon would show. Silverah Here's a start! Transcendence chat time!

Babylon didn't exactly know Bifrost well, so he was surprised to hear from her so soon after the meeting at Olympus. Actually, he was surprised to hear from her at all. They'd been on the same level of the labyrinth, but that did not actually make them fire-forged friends. They were more like... vague acquaintances with a horrific shared trauma, and that hardly qualified him to be telling her how to live her life. But she was asking his advice, and the very least he could do was go talk to her - he knew a bit more about transcendence now, after that strange dream dumped five years of memories into his head from, well... he wasn't quite sure where they were from, and he wasn't sure they appreciated them since he'd spent the better part of the last week convincing Arkady that they should totally not have a baby, just because she'd had a dream about one. Like, thanks, Universe. He supposed. The surrounding looked the same as ever, perhaps a little dustier. He wasn't sure that Bifrost understood exactly how big the place was, given that she told him that her wonder was "an outcropping with a pedestal" and nothing more useful for locating it, but after what felt like an hour of wandering around (but might have been closer to fifteen minutes), whatever magic governing the place that let there be a magical rainbow road in space that was somehow both traversable on foot and yet encircling the entire solar system eventually brought him to the squire. "Uh, hi there," said Babylon awkwardly, noting the pillows. "Are we - are we sitting out here? I mean, I'm the first to admit I know jack s**t about how chronos knights work." For all he was friends with Virgo... it didn't make him any more knowledgable about the knights she served with. "Sorry if I'm late," he added, taking a seat on the empty pillow. "This place is a bit hard to find." the_scowling_cat Is your intention that he be able to see her ancestor or not? I know everyone plays that slightly differently - what's your take?

Okay so she should have given him some better directions. She tended to forget that no one just got ported to her wonder simply because she invited them. Magic didn't work that way. She smiled up at him and patted the cushion, as Prena watched him quietly. The ancestor allowed him to see her in a very see through way, simply sitting on the cushion with an equally see-through tea cup. She was otherwise silent.
"Sorry! I should really give better directions. I forget that the Surrounding is... really large. And yes! My study isn't really... open to visitors. It's kind of tempermental. So I figured bringing out some of the cushions and blankets would be better than sitting on the marble!" Ever cheery, Bifrost did not mind explaining herself, or fluffing her shoulders while she did. "Thank you for coming, Babylon."
The squire shifted slightly. "Also the third cushion there is for Prena, my ancestor. I'm not sure if you can see her, but she wanted to hear what you had to say as well." Her ancestor nodded, giving a slight bow of her head. Silverah Prena's allowed him to see her, if in a very translucent way. I take it sort of as the ancestor decides whether they want to be seen or not, so feel free to have Babs interact with her as well.

"Well, no harm, no foul," shrugged Babylon, cheerfully enough for a guy who had probably walked like seven astronomical units in the last fifteen minutes. For those keeping track at home, that was like 1,047,185,090 kilometers? So it was, like, totally far. After hiking a distance roughly equivalent to most of the way from the sun to Saturn, it was nice to have a place to sit down. "It is an honor, ma'am," he said, nodding to the shimmering shape on the third cushion. His own ancestor had always looked a bit more solid to him - but was this what Virgo and Mistral had seen? He wondered how Bifrost's relationship with her ancestor was - he hoped it was more amicable than his and Menachem's had been, though that turned out alright in the end, didn't it? Someday, he supposed, when Bifrost was a knight, perhaps she too would guid her ancestor back to the cauldron. He could only hope she would have an easier time of it than he did. But anyway - there was business to attend to. His right hand went to the glowing marks on his cheek. "So, you had questions about these?" he asked. "Because honestly, if you'd asked me a few days ago, I'd have told you I was basically totally clueless, but I had this weird dream a couple of nights ago - and you know, I'm not one to put a whole lot of credence in dreams, but it was a really weird one. But the weirder part is that my girlfriend had - it was a different dream, from her point of view, but all the details matched up. So I think it's probably got something to do with this big, all-encompassing galactic conspiracy theory we're all part of and you're probably familiar with what I'm talking about." He bit his lip. "I'm not wrong, am I?" asked Babylon.

She blinked and nodded. Those dreams... yes, she'd remembered them. How couldn't she? They felt as though she'd lived them and actually did those things. The Squire scratched her cheek sheepishly for a moment before speaking. "Yes... I... I had those marks in those memories... dreams, things. They were a gold color, and mostly on my arms. More extensive than yours." She rubbed her fingers on her left hand, a flash of gold flickering across the joints in her mind.
"I also... died. At the very end." She shuddered a little, remembering the feeling of the blade between her ribs. It seemed to be too real to be a dream, especially that day. "Though I'm sure you don't want to hear about that." She fluffed her shoulders and gave a glance at Prena. Her ancestor tilted her head, frowning, but did not comment. Probably for the best. She'd get reprimanded for it later, hiding on her wonder like some scared kit. Bifrost turned her attention back to Babylon and smiled a little.
"So... how'd you do it? The marks?"

Babylon nodded, but bit his tongue lightly against telling her how his dream had ended. His had ended with him safe on his wonder - but for how long? He'd been counting on his and Mistral's joint wonders being able to sustain them, but it was a stopgap measure and he'd known it even as he slumbered. He couldn't admit to Bifrost that, even in the future, his natural tendency was towards cowardice. She trusted him enough to ask for his help, and he didn't want to squander that. "Mine are a bit more extensive than you can see," he said instead, tilting his neck so that she could see where the glowing circuits disappeared beneath his collar. He'd taken his coat off and seen how they covered his whole body, once, but he didn't think Bifrost would particularly want to see. "I haven't met anyone else in the present with them, but I know that in the future, there were - there were a lot of people with them." That senshi princess, for starters. Ida. "I think that at a later date it might be good if we saw if everyone's dreams told the exact same story," he said - his and Avalon's certainly had. "But for now, it's not the subject at hand." They could very easily get caught up in comparing their stories, but it would ultimately get them no closer to talking about the marks. "In my dream, of the future or whatever we want to call it," he explained, shifting a little on his cushion and squaring his shoulders, "we were calling it Transcendence. It has some advantages, which I'm not sure are all the same across the board, but in my experience, I can visit my wonder twice as often as I used to be able to be, I can heal - within reason - anyone I choose to, and perhaps most fortunately, I'm completely beyond corruption. A general tried to stick her hand into my chest, and this - force field or something just kind of pushed her back." Which brought him to how he'd done it. "I had an ancestor, sort of like yours," he said. "Menachem. He mentored me in the upkeep of my wonder and taught me about my family's history, but he also told me that the one thing he wanted, more than anything else, was to end his vigil and return to the cauldron." Babylon glanced to Prena and all her shimmering finery. "Your starseed is here at Bifrost, isn't it?" he asked. "Anyway, I wasn't even trying to do this. I was just trying to take his starseed back to the cauldron, the only way I could think to do it. It was damaged, so I put it into my own chest and carried it around for almost two weeks, before I could figure out how to get it to the cauldron - I almost killed myself, to be honest." He shrugged - he hoped that Bifrost didn't see to copy his example and go sticking Prena's starseed in her chest. "Before I had that dream, I just thought I'd damaged my glamour, that the changes to my powers were the result of overloading my starseed with too much magic, but now... I think there's got to be another way to do it. Senshi don't have ancestors, and I remember seeing some of them who had done it." If he'd expected anyone to ever try to repeat the feat, he'd have tried to pay more attention to what he'd done - but as it stood, he'd been kind of busy having a near-death experience.

Prena leaned forward on her cushion at the mention of being uncorruptable. The knight continued to speak, and mentioned something of her starseed. She frowned a little, thinking. The ancestor tilted her head, clearing her throat to speak. "Your ancestor's starseed did not... get reborn in the Cauldron? I suppose.... I suppose mine would be here, if I am still here. I do not know where, though."
Bifrost listened quietly. Prena's starseed was still here? That was how this whole ancestor thing worked? That was rather interesting. She fluffed her shoulders in thought. Especially if Senshi didn't have ancestors then they were reborn. Their starseeds were reborn. Why weren't the knights then?
"I won't try and carry her like that to the Cauldron. It's odd though. Why do senshi not have ancestors? Are they... reborn, then? Why weren't we reborn?" she glanced at Prena as she spoke, but her ancestor only shook her head. She didn't know. "I suppose that's besides the point here though. So, you took your ancestor to the Cauldron and... released him of his duties, essentially? I see."
Bifrost was quiet for a moment, thinking. "There has to be another way. If its a case of releasing your ancestor of their duties and allowing them to be reborn, then there should be some way to do it. Other than try to have two souls inhabit one body." She smiled at him and nodded, very sure of this. She wasn't sure why, but she was sure it had something to do with a 'changing of the guard'.

"Some knights are reborn, and some are like us," said Babylon with a shrug. He was thinking, specifically, of Mistral, who had known his ancestor personally in her past life, and who was always catching glimpses of her former self around her wonder. He wasn't sure where Bifrost stood with Mistral, though, so he refrained from making that comparison. Lina had been reborn, too, he thought... But Lina was long gone, back into the Negaverse's arms, and he didn't think she was a very good example. "Anyway, I don't know what determines it," he shrugged. "I think it might just be random, which knights had to stand vigil and which were reborn." Anyway, how would one go about getting that information? It just seemed like far too momentous a task for anyone to undertake, even if it did probably boil down to just go ask Cosmos. "The senshi are all reborn, though," he clarified. "Virgo has all of her memories. She remembers my ancestor from her past life." Besides, starseeds were supposed to go to the cauldron on their own, weren't they? The only reason he'd put Menachem's into his chest was because it had been damaged. "I think the starseeds are kept at our wonders by some kind of restraining force," he said, "But if no damage has been done to it in the last thousand years, then you might be able to just release it into the universe and it will go on its own." At least, that was how it had been explained to him? People died on earth all the time and their starseeds made it back to the cauldron without being personally ferried there. "Not that I'm suggesting you do that if Prena's not ready to go," he added. Ancestors were useful to have around, if you had one that didn't hate your guts. "But I don't think the transcendence has got anything to do with relieving him of his duties," Babylon clarified. "If it were that specific, then senshi wouldn't be able to do it. I think it's more about..." He steepled his fingers in front of him, deep in thought. "It's about service to your wonder," he said, after a moment. "Or your planet, for Senshi, I guess. It's about doing something to prove your dedication, so it will give you more power. And for me, that just happened to be nearly dying to take him to the cauldron."

She tapped a finger to her chin in thought. It was interesting to think that the knights could come from any sort of source. Bifrost glanced at Prena, who was listening intently to Babylon's words. She'd become rather used to having the ghostly woman around, even if she was harsh and stuck in the past. To think she could have memories of the past - when she had memories of the future - was a little mind boggling to be honest. Too many memories of lives she didn't have, or hadn't had, or whatever. It would get incredibly confusing.
"I see. Service to your wonder then. I suppose that makes sense. The first time I met Prena and came here, she told me about a duty to my wonder," said the Squire, glancing back at the pedastle in the middle of the platform for a moment. Her ancestor nodded.
"I will go when I am ready, that's correct. But yes, there was... a time when Knights and Senshi were far more dutiful to their power sources. It was our lives. This whole having a life elsewhere is rather odd to me, to be frank. We had far much more power then, as well, which I suppose is what Sir Babylon is referencing with this transcendence business. Reconnecting with your wonder or power source to regain the power you had." Prena gave a small shrug, shifting on her cushion (an action that amused Bifrost; how was the woman getting uncomfortable if she was essentially a ghost). "The tattoos are rather new though."
Bifrost gave a little nod in acknowledgement of what Prena was saying. "There probably isn't a guideline for what that service is, something you gotta figure out yourself. Hmm. Interesting! I wonder if the books within the study have something about it. As well, it might help me find Prena's starseed." She gave one of her classic beaming smiles to Babylon. This was a good start. Perhaps something to finally work towards, after everything. She may not be the strongest knight, or the most ambitious, but perhaps it would help keep the future she remembered from happening. If it did at least that, then it was a good enough endeavor for her.
"Thank you Babylon for the information! Perhaps doing this will help, in some small way, prevent the future from coming to pass."Silverah Tag finally sorry for the wait!

" Sir Babylon?" The knight raised an eyebrow - that was a new one, but he'd accept it. It had a good ring to him, something he could be pleased with being called. "I'm not really sure I'd call them tattoos," he said, touching his fingers to his cheeks. "I mean, I don't know what it's like for anyone else - I've just been thinking of them as magic seeping out of my skin." Which was probably giving himself too much credit. He shrugged to Bifrost and, sensing that this meeting was likely winding down, got carefully up from his cushion. "It might be hidden. It might be somewhere in plain sight," he told her, sorry that he couldn't be more help. "Prena will show it to you when she's ready to go." He would have never thought to go down into the well until the exact moment when he did, after all. "And..." he trailed off, smiling haphazardly at her. "I'm glad the business in Mistral hasn't soured you on Mercury knights forever. She feels terribly about what happened, as do I, but we're a nice bunch, I promise." And it had been heartening to see so many people working together towards a common goal, even if some had lost their lives in the doing. "I'll be back in Destiny City in December. If you like, come by Florence Court sometime and we can catch up on my home turf," Babylon added. He hoped the building was being kept up properly in his absence. the_scowling_cat Probably good to wrap on our next posts. smile

Bifrost smiled at him and shook her head. "No, it didn't. I don't think it was handled very well, but it would be hypocritical of me to condemn her when I haven't explored my wonder in its entirety either." She tucked blonde hair behind her ears. While she didn't like that the people had died, there really wasn't any way they could have stopped it. It was what it was, and besides, they'd get their chance again someday, right? The Cauldron would bring them back eventually.
Probably far away from this rather scary timeline. The Squire's shoulders fluffed and nodded with a smile. "I'd like that!" She glanced at her ancestor, who stood off the pillow and stepped - or floated really - in front of Babylon. Prena bowed full at the waist.
"Thank you, Babylon. May the Light keep you safe." She gave a nod to Bifrost and shimmered out of existence, probably to go rest.
"Well, thank you Babylon! I enjoyed talking with you. I've kept enough of your time; I won't keep you any longer." Always cheerful, even when saying goodbye.Silverah Sorry for the long wait omg! Feel free to call this closed!
