Hikito had three loving parents, Jeanine, Maria, and Sonya, to awaken his crystal, and was doted on and smothered with love. He had been eagerly anticipated by all three of them and when it came time to awaken him they playfully fought over who would get to do it. The infant was clearly a mix of all of them, and they were delighted to see one another in him. As soon as he was old enough his two geist mothers started to tease him, playfully taking his things to help teach him his culture. His demon momma helped him to learn when he should and shouldn't take things from people. He was raised in a very happy and healthy relationship.
However, his demon momma, Maria, got sick, and became very ill rather quickly. His other parents tried their best to help her to get well, and Hikito was always giving her new things to ooh and aah over in the hopes it would make her feel better. They went to various doctors, but nothing helped. Slowly she wasted away and it came to pass that she died. The two parents that were left were left devastated. Hikito didn't know what to do.
Slowly the two of them got over it. Eventually they were able to smile and be happy with one another and their child again. Just when things were picking up, a house fire took the life of another of his mothers. Hikito and Sonya were able to get out, relatively unharmed, but Jeanine got badly injured in the initial rush. The house collapsed before the firefighters could go in to save her. Once again Hikito was forced to see his mother buried.
Sonya tried her best to help Hikito and herself get over the grief, but eventually couldn't take it anymore. The loss of her two lovers had drained her, and Hikito looked so much like them. She sent him away to a boarding school. He wouldn't have to see how hard it was for her and he could make friends with other hybrids like himself. He could learn more about the various cultures of the races.
Hikito has so far not managed to make any close friends, but he's always getting into trouble. He likes to try and do the things his mothers could do, in the hopes that when Sonya come to get him, he can make her happy again.
When Kanda came to the orphanage, it was in the arms of someone who claimed to have found her. The infant was clearly mutated, had obviously been woken on the ‘wrong’ side of October. The pair running the orphanage pitied the child, and took her in. She had food, shelter, and clean clothes, but not many of the other nightmares wanted to interact with her. Kanda had to spend much less time around the other kids because she could get sick more easily than them. The fact that she was mute was also a huge factor. It was hard for anyone to know what she wanted, until the owners of the orphanage hired on a sign language teacher to provide her, and the other caretakers, with lessons.
None of the other freshlings wanted to take the lessons as well, not on top of classes they were already taking. So Kanda was alone at the orphanage. Even if there were plenty of other children with mutations. It didn’t help that they didn’t like her mutations, and she was picked on because of it. She was dreadfully unhappy about where she was, and even though the caretakers did their best, they weren’t a family.
Then one day, when the orphanage was having an adoption event, she met a chimera. Vüsala wasn’t there to adopt, or even to just look at the kids. His friend had wanted one and he’d been along for the ride, but when he noticed a group of the other children picking on her, he’d intervened. He was the tallest nightmare she’d ever seen, but he paid attention to her. Even though he didn’t speak sign, he understood her message of thanks when she brought him a flower.
The next week he came back. Alone. To see her. Kanda was so happy. They hung out, getting to know one another over the next few weeks. He would come when he had a chance, and they would visit. Finally, he asked her if she wanted to come home with him. Of course she said yes. After what felt like a whirlwind of activity she went home with him.
Since Vüsala’s home was in the mountains where the chimera lived and he was staying in an apartment near Leviathan University, the only problem was where she was going to go to school. He decided on the Academy, since it was the closest one, and she’s been going ever since.
Kanda ➺Personality .....Bubbly, Inquisitive, Mischievous, Meddling
Ever since Kanda moved out of the orphanage and into Vüsala’s house, she’s bloomed. She’s so upbeat and positive, she makes even Vüsala break out into the occasional smile. She loves to inquire about just about everything, wanting to learn more about the world around her. She also loves to watch people doing things, observing how everything is done. This includes cooking, glassblowing, spellcasting, heck, even cleaning. Her brain moves faster than her hands sometimes, and the end result can be quite amusing when she messes up the words.
Since she’s noticed Vüsala rarely has friends over, and it’s mostly the same friend over and over, she’s taken it upon herself to help him get more. He would prefer she didn’t but, allows her to try anyway. And not because he can’t figure out how to stop her and not hurt her feelings. Her nose often can end up in places it doesn’t belong, and she likes it like that. She wants to be in the middle of everything, helping out everyone.

Cyril was abandoned at an orphanage. No note, no trinket left behind to indicate he would be missed. There was barely even a blanket wrapped around him to keep him warm until someone found him. It was clear that somebody wasn’t proud of the mutated child they’d awoken and wanted him gone.
There were no other mutated children in the orphanage he lived in. Potential adopters always gave him strange looks, and the other children made fun of his third eye. Whether the caretakers cared much, if at all, of the bullying, nobody stopped them. Cyril retreated to wherever he could to keep from contact with pretty much everyone. Oftentimes this would be the older section of the library, with dry, dusty tomes of history to read. At first he wasn’t interested in any of it, he just wanted somewhere to hide. Eventually though, curiosity got the better of him. He pulled down one of the musty tomes and carefully began reading.
What he found caught his interest like flame on dry tinder. He was enthralled. Most of the time he kept his third eye shut, trying to use it as little as possible, but when he read the history, he used it to better read the faded ink on the pages. The only thing that can catch his interest quite as fast is food, whether it be eating it or making it. He might not be the best at making it, but he can certainly eat it.
Right as he was on the cusp of being a junior, everything changed. Someone told an official what kind of things were going on in terms of abuse against Cyril, and shortly he was taken away from that orphanage. For his safety, he was given to the Academy. He was moved into the dorm, and a councilor speaks with him on a biweekly basis. This has marginally helped. He’s still an anxious mess, but he agreed to use and train his third eye.
Cyril doesn't like to draw attention to himself. His parents abandoned him to the orphanage and there none of the parents wanted a child who had an extra eye. Most of the attention he got was negative and so he gradually stopped seeking any. The perpetual wallflower, he assumes if someone does pay attention to him, they're more likely to insult and scorn him than try to make friends. Even though he doesn't put himself out there, he does crave friendship and affection. Once someone gets past the shy nature, he's actually pretty easy-going. There's not much that can rile him up and his main interests tend to be history and food. He loves geist history in particular, but detests the tradition of theft and manipulation.
