Melanie wasn't sure about this candy floss she'd been given by one of the vendors in the festival. Sure, she could have refused the offer, but that would've made her seem rude or ungrateful. She wanted everyone here in Below to see her as someone with an open mind, someone ready to try new things and experience everything that this adventure would hold. ... But this candy was just a little too much. It looked like wads of cotton fluff that were dyed and tied together. Who in their right mind would eat something like that?
"Oh, no, no, it's way too sweet!" She whined, reaching for a drink of water as fast as she could. "No wonder the kids here are so hyper, everything is made with nothing but pure sugar! I'm sure I'd gain twenty pounds if all I did was eat this!"
It seemed very peculiar to London that he was finding all of these random gifts next to him all of a sudden. Did he have a stalker or, somehow worse, a secret admirer? He shuddered to think of just who would be crushing on him, he wasn't all that much to look at! That and he had so little self control when it came to hoarding plants! Who could love or want to date someone like that? He shook his head and looked the Kidden plushie in the eye.
"Okay, you're cute. I'll keep you." He said, nodding and placing the plushie under his arm. "I think I have some space near that orchid I've been nurturing, or maybe that string of Lily of the Valley... Hm. Or, you could find a place right next to me when I sleep."
He gave the plushie another look and shrugged. Nah, he wasn't too old to sleep with something like this. After all, he was still a junior! It was perfectly acceptable to have plushies at his age!
Zephyr returned to the festival triumphantly with a steaming cup of noodles from the cafeteria. There was nothing like a good cup of noodles for dinner, or a snack really, they were just so comforting and easy on the stomach. He slurped at them contentedly and peered around. Now that he had his food, what did he want to look at next? More chances at plushies? Get more trinkets at the stands he hadn't visited yet on the other side of the park? He tapped at his chin with his free hand and shrugged his shoulders. Well, first off, he was kind of thirsty despite these noodles. A nice drink seemed like a good idea!
"Mmm, this hot chocolate's pretty good." He said, taking a hearty sip, before moving to get some noodles from his cup. However, now that he had two steaming hot items to hold instead of just the noodles, it was hard to eat! Luckily, there were plenty of places to sit down so he wouldn't need to fuss too long.
Valerian had only been at the festival for less than five minutes, and he'd already won himself a bag of super delicious looking candies! But, not only that, he'd made himself a brand new friend in the form of a very stubborn Cockatriel! He grinned smugly toward it and prodded it with one of his tiny, wiggly fingers. Of course, the Cockatriel thought his fingers were a delicious snack and eagerly tried to take a nibble or two out of them in response, but Valerian always seemed just a step or two ahead of them. The hybrid boy laughed each time the bird failed and turned to look back at his sister who was struggling to keep up with him.
"Hey, Dahlia! This bird reminds me of you! It likes to squawk just as much as you!" He laughed.
Bibiana wasn't usually a book reader, but as she passed by the librarian's table the cover of one made her stop. It looked kind of interesting. It also looked kind of thick.... She made a face at the length of the novel, but slid it into the stocking anyway. She might give it a shot. Or it could just look pretty on her bookshelf!

Drayden was quite happy with his new friend as Ori floated next to his head. He wasn't sure what he wanted to do next, so he just wandered around. At one point, he spotted a table selling candies. Mm, those lollipops looked pretty good. He bought himself one and stuck part of it in his mouth. Yum!

Zeta crossed her arms over her chest as she tried not to run into anyone, or bump up against them. She still wasn't sure why she was here, except maybe the little trinkets... They were cute. Like these little bell earrings in silver. Hm. She bought a pair for herself and clipped them on, the gentle jingling starting to make her feel a little more....jolly. Was that what that was? Hm. Whatever. She continued to wander around the booths, debating playing some of the games.
Dahlia was practically oozing grumpiness as she trudged after her little brother. What was this kid made of, pure energy or something? She could barely keep up with him as he darted around the park like the world was going to explode at any minute! Also, the fact that she couldn't even stop to get herself one little prize from a booth before losing him in the crowd made her wiggle with absolute bitterness. Why did Valerian have to be such a brat? Couldn't he stay put? Augh!
"Ha-ha, very funny!" She replied, wrinkling her nose at Valerian and the bird. "Now, remember what daddy said about running off, okay? I don't want to have to take you back to the dorms before you see the really good stuff. Please stay with me, Valerian!"
Another stall a small way down from the one selling candy canes was selling peppermint bark and hot chocolate. Oooh, that would be a great treat. Isabelle bought herself a small bag of the bark, snagged one of the small cups of cocoa and then made her way over to one of the trees along the sidelines.
To her surprise a small skyfish flew down from the boughs where it had been hiding and nuzzled up to her. “Oh! Hello there. I thought you were an ornament,” she said, startled. The brown pattern on the fish had blended in really well with the actual ornaments that decorated the tree. As she sat there nibbling on some of her peppermint bark and drinking the hot cocoa, it fluttered about her before nuzzling against her cheek again, as if telling her that she belonged to it now.

His flailing did nothing but enrage the cockatriel attached to his face. It continued to shriek and claw at him, the thankfully small claws not doing too much damage. Cyril felt someone shove a bag of mints into his hand with the advice to try and feed it. His luminescent spots flared wildly as he pulled out a mint and offered it to the bird. His eyes were clenched shut so the bird wouldn’t hurt him, but he was scared to try and pull it off his face.

With her newest prize, the snow globe, tucked into her stocking, Elliah took up the makeshift leash on her kidden again and lead them towards the entrance. She was more than ready to go back to her dorm and warm up. None of her friends had shown up, not that she blamed them, she had more than enough prizes and the cold was definitely getting to her.
Just before she completely left, one of the volunteers lobbed a bag of peppermints at her. Catching it with her free hand, she thanked them and slipped it into her bag. Those would be great treats to suck on while she was studying.

Catching sight of a familiar mess of hair, Vüsala surged through the crowd to get back to his adopted daughter. But, when he finally got to her side, it was not his kid. With a curt apology, he turned to go and nearly ran over one of the librarians rushing around. His apology to her was much smoother and he managed to convince her to part with one of the books she had. It wasn’t that hard to do, but once he’d caught sight of “Solstice Songs”, he hadn’t been able to resist. It had been one of his favorites as he was growing up and he thought Kanda might like it as well.

Her mug now empty, Kanda tucked it into her stocking with the rest of her new goods. Kanda hopped off the bench and pointed to one of the nearby games. ”That looks like fun, we should go play!” she signed to her new friend. Carefully scooping up her stocking full of goodies, and Flitter, the two-tailed grimm cheerfully wormed her way through the crowd to get to the game she’d pointed out. The giant, brightly colored, spin the wheel looked like it would be fun to play a couple times.
With a heave, she started the wheel a-spinning. When it landed on a big prize section, her tails went into overdrive. She picked out a bag full of peppermints and spearmints, showing it off to Flitter before putting it away so she could accept the purple fennekit plush that she’d also won. Flitter seemed more interested in the bag of food, but didn’t scramble down her body to get into the bag, so she pet it gently.

In the middle of launching a plushie at one of the juniors, one of the girls in the club draped a silver boa around his neck. Ares flashed her a smile after he saw the plush hit the kid in the face. Sure, there was a good chance he wasn’t supposed to aim for the face, but what better way to make sure they knew it was for them?
The two freshlings thanked the game booth staff and proceeded to make their way through to the next one. And there they saw small potted plant buds, with but just a few sprouted leaves emerging from the dirt. Some of the pots looked to be pre-decorated, possibly by a class or a club? Next to the decorated display was a craft table with paint, tissue paper, and glue for nightmares to decorate their own. Edel was tempted to do it, but stopped and asked Rhiannon what her thoughts were. ”Do you want to decorate your own, Rhian?” Rhiannon looked at the setup. ”Maybe we shouldn’t, just for time.” Rhiannon replied. ”Okay, that’s a good point”, Edel nodded in agreement. Edel walked up to the decorated plant pots and looked at the selection. She enjoyed the festive striped reds and greens, but the deep red pot with a holiday tree pattern seemed to call to her.
Rhiannon had hoped that she made the right decision, in case if Edel did indeed want to decorate her own. But seeing Edel enthusiastically pick her red flower pot made her feel a little less guilty. Looking at the selection though, Rhian didn’t know what to pick, as the table lacked any obvious purple ones! Maybe she should have gone and decorated her own…but no time for that! Going through the selection, she set her gaze on a pretty blue pot with snow white paint dripping from the top and speckling the bottom of the pot.
"Really? Huh... It must be then. Grown ups are really strange, aren't they?" he said with a grin on his face. Though... maybe they were on to something, because Hailey was sure a strange one.
Hailey pouted when she found out that Nikora couldn't read minds. Well... knowing how her own mind worked, it was probably a good thing. "Ooooo! Ooooooo! That's a really good idea, Niko!" She turned, grinning to Malachi. "And maybe they have little bitey bird babies!.... 'cause supposedly parents have kids worse than themselves!" Amused at the thought, even though she didn't want to, she handed the cage to Malachi's mom. Apparently she didn't want her to terrorize the festival. Poo. With hands freed, Hailey raised her arms and tucked said hands behind her head... if only to hide the bracelet she snitched from the booth beside them. Though she gave a shriek as something buzzed past her head, scrambling to cling to Nikora. "WHAT WAS THAT?!"
Malachi looked wide-eyed at the creature that startled the ever living twilights out of his friend. He'd never seen one before. Oh! But he did recognize it from a book in his Magical Creatures class. "It's not gonna hurt you, Hailey." he said, stepping up beside her and patting her on the shoulder. The poor thing had been startled some by Hailey's shrieking, but Malachi managed to catch and hold it. He petted it gently and cooed softly. "It's okay... he's startled, but I think once he has a place to settle in..." Not missing a chance, Malachi paired it up with a little plant an arm's reach away.

Dodger couldn't help laughing in amusement. "You're quite the amusing girl already, Gly~" Admittedly, he was very surprised at how straight forward and flirty she was. It only made him grin more. "Welp, as far as I know, my girlfriend is an only child and I haven't gotten to meet her friends just yet, so outa luck on the hook-up there! And I really don't know anyone, myself, else I'd introduce you." Taking a moment, the Grimm grabbed up a lollipop and stuck it in his mouth... it was calling to him after all. He attempted to talk with said sucker in gob, but it proved troublesome so he took it out and snickered before replying. "Hey. Forward people are not but purely honest. I like honest. So sure! I could go for making a new bud~"

Bobbi was oh so content to sit and enjoy the now flavored hot chocolate and people watching. It was an enjoyable pairing. Xe had even grown somewhat fond of the itchy boa stil draped about xyr neck and shoulders. Just as the Litch was about to take a book out from the bag, someone had snuck up on xyr once again and placed something on xyr head! "What on...." Bobbi said, reaching up to pat the offending object squeezing xyr head. Antlers. With a roll of eyes, Bobbi pulled the strange accessory off and looked it over, the jingling of bells ringing with each movement. "Interesting... I suppose." Setting the headband on the seat beside xemself, Bobbi grabbed up a book, though peering side to side to make sure there wasn't any sort of surprise once more.
With a boost in confidence, paired with wicked game skills, Matty worked his way through the different game booths. They were a blast! Some he was pretty familiar with in how they worked, while others were quite new to him. They must have been a Below thing or something like that. He grabbed up a book that looked like it would be quite the read in his downtime and went on his hunt for the next amusing thing.
It wasn't until he spied an all too familiar familiar from topside buzzing about, that he was distracted from games. They weren't something to fret, but he couldn't help wanting to try and catch it! The critter was getting rather close to... a Grimm? -- he was still learning! -- with rainbow hair that he crept closer. "Hey dude.. don't freak out, but you got a bug that likes your hair." He said, smirking in amusement.
It was that most wonderful time of the year again [[note the subtle feeling of sarcasm]], and even though festivities and such weren't really his thing, Exodus decided that it couldn't hurt to make an appearance and maybe snag a treat or two. He had been spending way too much time cooped up and studying that he just needed a chance to breathe. Maybe check out the new locals as the Daydreams were beginning to meld into the Below society. He accepted the stocking offered to him as he came onto the grounds and immediately went for his first stop. Coffee. Thank goodness they had some and not just hot chocolate. "Hot chocolate is good, but doesn't cut it when one has to be social" he said jokingly to himself as he finished stirring in the creamer and sugar.
Wyrdda dropped off her new belongings--and her new pet--at her dorm room. The Fennekit seemed content to sleep on the bed. Good. She didn't want it eyeing her harp. She returned to the party unburdened by anything but a large bag to carry things in. She went first to a beanbag toss--it seemed like a good place to go. She won a small potted plant there. Plants weren't her thing, but...well, the pot seemed pretty, at least?
Chries found himself once again at the ring toss--why was he always going there? Someday he'd have to figure that out. He stood next to a dark skinned Litch and watched them toss the rings. "I see you like the color orange," he murmured. The vendor handed him a trio of rings as the Litch turned to him.
"Wh-wh--?"
Chries shook his head. "Orange is a good color. I like orange. But then again...I have a lot of favorite colors." He smiled at the Litch and tossed his rings. He picked a gold bracelet from the available prizes and held it up to the Litch. "Yellow's nice, too."
Xenophon looked over his dad's new rats and giggled. "They're pretty! And they're so cute! I have a goat now." He pointed at the kidden standing behind him. "I named her Persephone." He took his father by the hand and dragged him back out to the event. Someone tossed him a red and gold bracelet. He caught it and put it around Persephone's horns. "Thanks!" he called out into the crowd, but there was no reply.
Zalir would have left the ring toss, but then someone started talking to zem! An Imp, one with bright eyes. Very pretty. Um, he looked familiar too--had zey met him before? Zey weren't sure...he did look sort of familiar. But, um, right, a conversation! "Um, yes, I, um, orange is, yes, my favorite color. I also like brown, though," zey added. "It's...a nice color." Zey accepted a bundle of rings from the vendor and tossed a couple. Zey won a bag full of peppermint bark. Well, that was pretty good. Zey offered some to the Imp.
Aigh, why did the children have to keep breaking off from each other?! Kuni moved to set the freshlings right, but it seemed that they were coalescing back into a group. Harumph. And yes, Kuni did say that out loud, under his breath. Someone giggled at him and threw a bracelet at his face. "Hey, cheer up! Don't be a Scrooge!"
Kuni scowled at them, but did not reply. He examined the bracelet. It was pretty. It was seasonal. Feh. Whatever.
The crowds were sort of thick around the plushie cannon. Ved signaled his fellow freshlings together for a strategy session. "How do we get in between them? Um, uh, thank you?" Someone had handed him a mug of hot cocoa. He wrapped his cold fingers around it and looked around the group. "I mean, those are awfully thick crowds."
