Nicolae was apprehensive. This trip was something new. First he moved to bellow and became a teacher, got a roommate... Now this field trip? Was he being reckless? He put his suitcase under the bus and climbed on. Oh geeze. There were so many people on this trip already! He looked around and tried to avoid stepping on anyone's toes as he found a seat and sat down.

Enomu had been starting to drift into his own thoughts when someone sat down next to him and he looked down at his new seat partner. A kid. Wonderful. A kid that seemed to be signing at him. Even better. He laid his ears back, but looked resigned rather than truly upset. "I can't understand that." He said, making sure to face her so she could read his lips if she was deaf.
Why'd a kid who couldn't even talk sit next to him? He wanted to just turn away and ignore her, but he'd promised himself he'd try, and she was just a kid anyway. Sometimes he'd wished someone had been nice to him when he was a kid. So he kept his attention on her. Maybe she'd leave on her own, or maybe she'd find a way for them to have a conversation. At least he could say he was trying.

Thomas listened to the first demon with a smile, though it faded as he talked. Scoffing lightly he looked back to the door."I could tell you all about that place and people from there,"He muttered, not quite maliciously. But the other demon's cheery response couldn't help but make him chuckle. Turning back to him, Thomas grinned and leaned forward slightly."I bet they don't write about everything in books, huh? Gotta see it first hand, I get it,"He agreed.
At the mention of coffee, Thomas' tongue instinctively licked the middle of his lips."Mmm... I got my barista friend to make me a couple cups before I came,"He remarked, sighing as he patted his empty pockets,"Shoulda packed some of my pastries too... ah well."Glancing at the blue demon's travel mug, Thomas grinned and tilted his head."Got enough to share for the class?"He cooed innocently.
When the demon hastily offered his hand, Thomas let out a small laugh before seizing it with his own; the naga's grip felt somehow casual but firm."Tommy, and don't mention it. I find name's slip out on their own... eventually,"He answered with a smirk, glancing at the other demon once more.

- - - Cheeks flushed at the compliment to their clothes. Having been so used to their mother insisting they wear more muted colors and threatening to throw out all their colorful choices, being complimented was still a new feeling. As a result, they simply puffed up and out proudly, sticking their hands into the hoodie pockets for now.
"Heh, thanks...I mean-" Looking around at the seats mentioned, Sprite shrugged their shoulders. "If you want, I was just gonna--" stand. Like an idiot. Yeah, not the best idea now that they thought about it. "Yeah let's grab those. Soon as the rest of the others are on."
Sprite spared a very slight, very brief glare at the other 'chaperones' who weren't seeming to be doing their job. Perhaps it was a touch of self-righteousness, but Sprite already knew which kids to keep their eyes on.
And then they were asked about school. "Oh! Uh, I do, part-time. I'm taking another course in Biology, but I graduated in Graphic Design and Children's Literature a bit ago." A smile crossed their face, proud of how far they'd come so far! "I'm just taking Biology at night though. I'm a T.A. over at the Academy, teaching Language Arts, too."
It left little time to actually have social life, but this trip was an excuse to try for that, after all.
- - - - Taking advantage of having his mouth full- of what he called 'sweetie biscuits'- Shion had to think long and hard about how to respond. He didn't want to seem like a weenie, and he didn't want to be made fun of. But, he also didn't want to lie either.
"I, um...I didn't w-want to, but, my b-big sister...I think sh-she wanted me out of the way for a b-bit..." The thought was depressing, and the memory of his older brother jeering at him about getting lost for good started to replay in his head, causing some tears to well up in the corner of his eyes.
No, no, no! He had to be a big boy, he had to!
"B-but! It's okay! M-maybe it'll all be okay, right? I m-mean, g-getting to s-see another p-place that isn't the a-a-academy is g-gonna be really...um...cool?"

Okay," She put the sphere back into her bag, glad he had something of his own. These fidget toys were amazing! She then began to listen to what Cyril had to say, giving nods of understanding about his familiar. Each familiar was different, just like the nightmares and daydreams that were their owners. When the ruins were brought up, she gave another nod ", I am excited about the ruins for sure! I came on this trip to deal with my hyper nature. I was told a trip would be good for me, and the ruins seem so cool! What do you think about them?"
Items brought in Bag: music player, earbuds, book on Swirling Sands, fidget sphere, dried fruit snacks, notebook, writing utensils, camera, magically powered fan, warm and cold weather change of clothes
"Lapis," Annie grinned, breathing a sigh of relief. He shifted over a bit to give her room. "Of course you can sit with me." It had been too long since he last saw Lapis, even though they went to school together. He was really hoping someone he knew would end up sitting next to him, if only because he had a bit of a rough time making friends who had the power of intelligent speech. He watched as she sat down, a million bits of conversation running through his head. What would he even say first? Would it make him seem too much like a weird uncle to ask her how school was going?
"Are you excited for the trip?" he ventured as Mavis, the ever-curious flitterat, scampered over to the shoulder closest to Lapis to give her a friendly sniff. "I think there'll be a lot of really cool familiars over there in the desert. I heard that we were even going to see a newly discovered one!" He was practically vibrating with excitement.

Leta was so excited to be able to go on the trip to the swirling sands. It was a treat for her to get away from the normal Freshling Caretakers and all the other children that were Cache Orphans like her- and it was an excellent chance to cause some mischief....
Leta boarded the bus and looked around for a moment before seeing an empty seat next to the winged Freshling. So she approached and said softly " May I sit here please?" and indicated the seat beside them with a motion of her hand. Her own wings betrayed her nervousness, as they twitched slightly while she awaited a response. Uncertain what the reception would be because of her dual colored eyes and mixed blood- she hoped that the other freshy wouldn't hold it against her.
Briefly disappointed that her new seat partner did not, in fact, know sign, Kanda held up one finger in the universal sign for one moment. Her ears flicked back a moment as she reached around to pull her backpack off. She unzipped the front compartment and reached in, almost immediately pulling out a small hardback notebook and a set of colored pencils. Sure, she had some pencils for this, but she liked to use the colored pencils more.
Notebook set aside for a moment, she pulled out an orange colored pencil then put the rest away. She flipped open the notebook then scrawled a mostly legible note:”My name is Kanda! It’s nice to meet you!! Would you like a snack? P.S. Don’t you come from the desert?” Her grin revealed a couple larger than average fangs, but her expression was more pleased than anything. Both ears flicked around, listening to the people around them, but her attention remained on the white bakeneko next to her.
Charmed Bag: snacks, water, juice boxes, notepads & pens/pencils, coloring book, crayons & colored pencils, pencil sharpener, change of clothes, jacket, music player (MellowD brand), headphones, phone, charger, small first aid kit

Cyril’s smile brightened considerably, though it was still a bit wobbly around the edges, when he heard she was also excited about them. “I, um, really like history, so I’m really excited to get to explore and see the ruins. Especially since n-nobody has seen them, aside from, um, the bakeneko and nagas?” Cyril took a sip from his water bottle then slid it back into his bag. At this point, he almost wanted to pull out his fidget toy, since she’d already called attention to it and he couldn’t comfortably mess with his shirt any longer. He hesitated for a bit too long, then grabbed out his book instead. “I, um, I brought a book, i-if you maybe wanted to borrow it, a-and look over it? It’s got some stuff about the swirling sands desert. N-not very much though,” Cyril almost swallowed his tongue in an attempt to stop speaking. He was rambling too much, he should stop now before she got irritated. He should bury his face in the book and be quiet. Oh, but he’d offered it to her, what if she took it, then what would he do, but he couldn’t be rude and take it back, but what if she laughed at him and his interests, because clearly it was a history book and it was worn enough that it was obvious he had read it more than the once, that he liked it even.
Cyril sucked in a deep breath, realizing he’d stopped breathing right after he’d offered his book and how long had he zoned out for. Had he been flashing? He couldn’t remember, so he nervously looked at Jacintha to see what sort of expression she had, forgetting that he still had his book held out as an offering.
Bag: chapstick, scarf, phone, charger, external battery, small history book, pencil/pen, notebook, fidget toy, snack box, water, first aid kit
Lapis raised her hand to delicately nudge it towards the flitterat, letting them sniff at her fingertips before she retracted them back into her lap. Absently, she wished she had brought her own familiars. Or, rather, one of them. Mavis would have enjoyed a friend, she was sure.
"I suppose." She sighed softly, voice hinting that the answer was, for now, not really. "I came because they wanted to go." She nodded softly to Willow and Thyme, a faint smile fluttering on her lips as she watched her older brother quietly help Thyme with due homework. "A new familiar?" She inhaled softly. Well, maybe that was something to look forward to!

Oh, so she wasn't as quietly pumped as he was to go on a 12-hour bus trip into the middle of the desert. Not that Annie could really blame Lapis, once he thought about it for a moment.
But when her face brightened just the slightest about the familiar, Annie lit up like a firework. "Yeah, I'm so excited!" he gushed, pulling Mavis onto his lap. "There haven't been any hints about what it is but I've got my eye on a few possible species variations, especially those in the area of the lodge we're staying. Maybe you'll find one you'll like." He smiled kindly at her, hoping his palpable enthusiasm was rubbing off on her a little.
He'd seen that glance back at Willow and Thyme, and it reminded him of the family he'd be leaving behind for the weekend. He hadn't been back home to visit in, well, a while. He wondered if his mom and Lapis' uncle were still getting along well. And, geez, it probably sucked to have come onto this trip for the sake of two other people only to be shunted into the third wheel. Or, at least, that's kind of how it seemed from the outside. He fiddled with the sleeve of his hoodie, his face a little warm, before beaming at her. "Let's make it a goal to have a lot of fun together on this trip."

Roshan was a little troubled at the idea of someone not wanting someone else around. That usually means the one doesn't like the other. Shion didn't seemed to think that way, though. He seemed to want to ignore it.
Instead, Roshan brought up their own reason for coming. It was, they thought, sort of similar. "My mama wanted me to come to make friends. She's worried about my so-she-eye-ation skills. I think that means the skills to make friends." Roshan took another bite as they contemplated the journey ahead of them.
They nodded as they thought on what Shion had put forth. "Yeah, I'm sure we're going to see all sorts of cool stuff. I just hope nothing bad happens..." Although most of what happened last Hallow's Eve was a mystery to Roshan, they still remembered being in the locked rooms and the adults being very frightened. Occasionally they had nightmares about being trapped again.
Bag contains: a phone, a bit of money, two water salves (hopefully enough for this leg of the trip), a math game book, coloring books, and crayons

Khepri looked up to see who was speaking at her; finding another student speaking to her she straightened up. "Hello! You can sit here, its a free spot!" she said excitedly. She pulled out a thin strip of paper to use as a bookmark. She placed it inside and closed her book to give attention to her new seatmate. "My Name is Khepri, nice to meet you!" she quipped as she introduced herself. She sorta bounced at the prospect of making new friends on this trip. She just transferred recently and hasn't really made friends yet as she was still settling down in the dorm. She smiled and offered some snacks from her bag. "Help yourself if you want some" she offered as she opened it to show her seatmate.
Bag contains: pencils, notebook of paper, music player with headphones, books about desert plant life, various snack foods, magnifying glass, her wallet with some money, a water bottle with a filter inside (like a brita filter water bottle), extra sunlight crystal, small personal blanket, extra clothes and a jacket.

He could see her ears swiveling, so he guessed she wasn't deaf. Mute then. Noticing she was writing, he tilted his head to read it, made easier when she finished and presented her questions. He huffed a sigh. "I'm Enomu." He said. "I'm fine and don't need a snack." His ears twitched at the last part. "Yes. I was born in what you call the Swirling Storms. Then I...came to the Academy." The details of how and why weren't important to discuss with someone who looked around the age he'd been when he'd been brought to the Academy in the first place. He remembered those early days, but that too wasn't to be discussed. Not in full and certainly not truthfully. Besides, he had enough trouble just talking about it all with his counselor.
"Uh. Why did you decide to come on this trip? You seem...kinda young to care about this stuff." Of course, he wasn't on the trip because he cared about the ruins, who she could be there for any number of reasons. "Uhm? A way to get out of school for a while?" That'd make sense. If there was one thing he'd figured out while growing up at the Academy, it was that few took the schooling as seriously as he seemed to. Still, the reasoning didn't matter. He was making conversation, and he was rather proud of himself for doing so.
