Rano Kanda bounced up and down, ready to go to the music classroom to learn more about how to make the best music. It was always fun and they learned something new almost every time they went. Sometimes they practiced the stuff that they'd gone over in class before, but the teacher always made it fun to do. Well, Kanda thought so, and she loved taking the music class. Both her tails wagged as she bounded forward when their line reached the music room, ready to snag one of the instruments that had been laid out. Unfortunately, the one she went to grab was already being picked up by a pretty grimm. 'Oops!' she thought to herself, letting go for them to have it. "Sorry," she signed to the grimm. "You can have it." Hopefully this freshling would know sign and she wouldn't have to pull out the notebook and paper to say sorry. wc: 153
Hobo Devorah was bummed today. The one person she really wanted to be friends with had left and moved to the junior section. Now she had to go to her classes and pretend to not be bored. At least her next class was music which was enjoyable. Heading into class, she grabbed one of her favorite instruments. She looked up as she felt someone touch her hand. "Oh! Sorry!" She told them, noticing the hand gestures. She bit her lip some, trying to remember what signing she learned. "I'm sorry." She signed back, "You can fish if you tickle." She signed to the other, trying to say that she was sorry and that they could have it if they wanted.
Rano Kanda giggled, noiseless but obviously amusement at what the other grimm had signed to her. Shaking her head a bit, she pointed to the instrument and then to the other girl, then pointed at herself and shook her head. She wouldn't take it since the other girl had already had her hand on it. Reassured, slightly, that the other girl knew at least a little sign, she smiled before rummaging around in her bag for a pen and pad of paper. "You can have it. I'll use one of the recorders!" she wrote. Grabbing said instrument, she gave her a grin, glad that she didn't seem freaked out by her fangs like the last freshling she'd given this smile to. Once everyone had found an instrument, the teacher told them to partner up with someone and try to make a song. Immediately, Kanda looked around for the grimm she'd bumped into earlier, glad when she found them alone. Bounding up, she gestured between the two of them. "Wanna join up?" she wrote, hopeful that she would. wc 176
Hobo Devorah smiled back, "if you are sure... Can you hear? Or are you mute?" She asked, wanting to make sure so she could adjust to try and help the other understand what she was saying. It wasn't long before the teacher called for attention. Darn... She didn't get an answer.. she'd have to look for her later. As luck would have it, their teacher had them partner up. She has declined the person next to her as she looked for Kanda. A smiled crossed her face as the other found her first. She signed to her, "Hello again! Yes please!" She'd definitely have to work on her signing.
Rano Remembering the question that she hadn't gotten to answer earlier, Kanda wrote "I can hear, but I can't speak!" She made the mouth motions for hello and goodbye, but as predicted, no words came out. Seeing that her next bit of sign was more along the line of something understandable, she gave her another grin and a couple claps. Both excited to meet someone who knew sign and that she was willing to be her partner. "My name is Kanda!" she signed slowly. Her name specifically she signed twice to make sure the other girl would catch it. She had an index card with her name as well, in case the other didn't know the alphabet. Hopefully she would though, but Kanda was ready to pull it out if she didn't. "What kind of music do you like?" she signed, trying to keep her signing slow so the other could hopefully read it. wc: 153
Hobo Oh. At least she'd be able to hear her then... That wasn't so bad. Devorah smiled, "Alright. That should be a bit easier for me then.. I'm.. rusty on the basics of signing. Sorry!" She rubbed her fluffy arm, embarrassed. She grinned again as the other spelt her name out, saying the letters out loud. "K-A-N-D-A.... Kanda? Nice to meet you. I'm devorah." She spelt her name for her new friend. She watched as she signed again, trying to make sure she got it right. "What... Music do i enjoy? Oh, all kinds... I don't think there is one I dislike." She replied, "what about you?"
Rano Kanda waved her hand around a bit as if to say it wasn't a big deal. Most of the freshlings she knew didn't know sign. She got paired up with an older kid or with a chaperone. Music was one of the few classes where she didn't need a helper thankfully. It did mean that she got kind of lonely sometimes though. Nodding, pleased that she wouldn't have to pull out the index cards just yet, Kanda spelled Devorah's name back to her, wanting to memorize it. Once she was sure she wouldn't forget, she bounced a bit on her feet. There were so many music types to enjoy. Was there one that she liked the most? Taking several seconds to think about it, she eventually shrugged. "I like a lot of kinds of music!!" she signed, ready to write it down if she didn't know all the words. "Ladies, I don't mind you chatting, but make sure you're working on the class assignment while you do!" Came a voice from behind them. "I don't hear any wonderful music coming from this corner!" Kanda winced a bit, caught in the act and picked up her recorder from where she'd forgot it. "Do you wanna start and I'll mimic you?" she asked, her signing a bit awkward with the instrument in her hand. wc: 222
Hobo Devorah nodded to Kanda as she spelt her name. As she signed what she liked, the Grimm took a second to think about it. She liked... A lot.. oh, she liked a lot of music... Like kinds. Okay! She smiled to her, "that gre--" she was going to say to have an open mind but their teacher called them out. Devorah giggled quietly before trying to read kandas next signing. "Hmm... Start... And was that follow? You want me to start?'' she was more talking to herself as she picked up her instrument and started to play.
Rano Kanda's tails wagged softly, excited that Devorah was understanding most of her signing. She'd have been happy with just a little bit, but so far she'd understood most of what she'd signed. Nodding, she waited for Devorah to start and then listened to get a feel for the music. After about thirty seconds or so of listening to the music, she started to play the recorder. It wasn't her favorite instrument, so she wasn't too good at it, but she only messed up every six or seven notes. They spent the rest of the class partnered together and did surprisingly well considering her fumbled signing and Devorah's sketchy understanding, but it was better than she'd done with most of the other freshlings in her class and it made her so happy. wc: 131
Hobo Devorah had fun in her class with Kanda and definitely looked forward to hanging out with her again. The signing didn't bother her at all, she only wished she was better at it herself. Maybe she'd ask Mama dandy to put her in classes for it or work with her. She smiled to her new friend, signing the best she could that she and Kanda were now friends and that she'd work hard to get better. At the end of class, the Grimm waved with a smile to Kanda. "Byyyyye Kanda! See you tomorrow!" Now to head to her next class then home! She couldnt wait to tell Mama dandy and Austin about Kanda!... Max still scared her.
