Amateur Theatre – Marlin enjoys working with costumes which is probably just as well as he works at a costume shop. Outside of work he's part of a theatre club that meets about three nights a week. It was something he drifted into at first – when the local club was looking for volunteers – but over time Marlin has found it something he really enjoys. Although he enjoys working backstage with the costumes, Marlin also enjoys helping out with the scenery.
Growing things – Although not what you'd call a dedicated gardener, Marlin enjoys dabbling with growing tomatoes – and not just any old tomatoes either. Yellow, purple, white, green... As long as it's not red then Marlin will most likely try it out (after all red is pretty boring when there are soo many other tomato colours there are out there). Marlin likes the cherry varieties best as he thinks they have the added benefit of also being sweet and tasty. He also enjoys tending his stepmother's pineberries – white strawberries are definitely FTW!
Scrapbooking – This was something that Marlin picked up as a child and never really grew out of. There's something fun about taking bits and pieces of personal memories and preserving them. A few shells from a beach trip here, a ticket stub from an especially enjoyable film there ribbon from a medal from an old school sports day there – Marlin enjoys making up his own personal album of memories.
Cheerful – A generally smiley person, Marlin does his best to look on the bright side of things. This doesn't mean that he doesn't have bad days since everyone does, but when he does then he tries to think up ways to make it better rather than glooming on everyone.
Decisive – Marlin's not one to dilly-dally about making up his mind. If he doesn't have all the facts then he'll use the information he does have and use his judgement to come up with a decision – after all it's better to have something in place rather nothing at all.
Observant – Marlin has a knack for remembering faces. Okay so he's obviously not going to remember every face he comes across, but in general he's pretty good at putting names to people that he's met. He's also relatively good at noticing little details – such as a regular customer getting a new hair cut.
Dependable – If Marlin says he will do something then you can count on him to do everything in his power to get it done. Need someone to pick up something from the stores? Or even to house-sit for a few days? Then try asking Marlin – if it's something he can do then consider it done.
Obstinate – Once Marlin makes up his mind about something or someone then good luck trying to get him to change it – a brick wall has nothing on him. He will stick to his decisions with all the tenacity of a rock and rarely admits to being in the wrong. That's not to say he can never be swayed – if proved to be wrong he will eventually give a somewhat grudging apology – however it's something that would take a great deal of patience, evidence and plenty of arguments on the side of the other party.
Holds Grudges – If Marlin feels that you've wronged him then you can expect the silent treatment. He's been known not to speak to people for months over a slight. Sure if you turn up at the shop then he'll serve you and if you buy something then he might even (depending on the nature of the transgression) manage to paste on a smile – buying something makes you a paying customer and business is business after all. But try not to expect any favours from him as you'd only be wasting your breath.
Independent – Although good at being there for others Marlin's reluctant to let people return the favour. He's used to to being there for himself and getting things done on his own and he really doesn't need you to butt in unwanted. Sure it's nice of you to offer, but seriously guys it's
fine – he's got it.
Mr 'I told you so' – If you ask Marlin's advice on something and choose not to take it, then he totally reserves the right to tell you how he told you so if it all goes wrong. Actually he
will tell you 'I told you so'
multiple times – even if he's giving you a hand fixing up the mess – which can come across as annoying or even irritating.
– Despite being able to drive, Marlin prefers to walk when he can. He finds that he tends to notice more about his surroundings when on foot, it also alternates as a pretty inexpensive method of staying trim.
– Slugs and snails ick him out – slugs a little more so than snails. But seriously they're both oozy and yucky and he doesn't want either of them remotely
near him.
