((This rp backdated to Saturday the 14th)) It was Valentine's Day.
It was Valentine's Day and he was out patrolling.
Okay granted it was late and more like Valentine's evening than Valentine's day, but it didn't take away from the fact that he was out patrolling and that probably counted somewhere as being just plain sad - then again it was probably marginally better than the pottering around at home that had been his other option.
He had decided on the patrolling, although with the evening being as quiet as it was Falias was contemplating packing it in for the night to the point where he had turned with the intention to start heading in the direction of home.
Then he'd caught the flare of a Nega-Officer's aura and had turned back.
It felt like a Captain's aura and relatively close - was in fact close enough for him to reckon that he should go check it out.Lithiasaur again let me know if anything needs changing

Merlinite was grumpy, confused, and terrified. He was coming more and more to the decision that he was ready to make a huge change in his life, but every time he walked away from a conversation with a senshi and returned to Painite, he was reminded why it was a terrible idea.
There was no way he could purify. They said she would not find him once he became a knight, or maybe he would forget her, but he found it was hard to believe.
None of them knew her like he did. None of them saw the way she focused, the way she bent every ounce of her attention to a task. And usually the task was torturous and evil.
He felt an aura that felt vaguely familiar, and fairly close, but was not sure if he had it in him to talk to anyone else tonight. He was in a bad mood because all this thinking was giving him a head ache. Let whoever it was come to him, and he would see if they wanted a fight.

Maybe it was the closeness of the aura, or perhaps the way it seemed to be focused in the same area but Falias found that it didn't take particularly long for him to catch up with the source and for all that he was sporting a Captain aura rather then the Lieutenant aura, he found that he recognised this particular Captain.
"It's you" his voice was neither friendly nor enthusiastic - after all his previous encounters with the other man had never been friendly, most likely down to the fact that the other was just a plain old a**.

Merlinite looked up in surprise and focused on the familiar knight, shaking his head and letting out a rueful laugh.
It figured, when things were at their worst for him, he would manage to run into one person that could just make it even worse. There was no worse, not really, because things could always just keep getting shittier. That was something he was learning far too well, these days.
He rubbed his temples with his thumb and pinky, hand stretching across his forehead.
"Didn't think I'd see you again. Or I guess I was hoping I wouldn't."
For different reasons now, maybe, than it used to be. He hated Falias and considered him a rival, but all that had been before this Painite debacle. Before his feelings about the White Moon changed, and his doubts about the Negaverse settled. Now, he was playing with the idea of becoming a knight himself.
How could he still hate this guy?

To say that the Nega-Captain's reaction was somewhat surprising was something of an understatement and for a moment Falias couldn't help but stare at the other in startled surprise - after all based on their past path crossings the shake of the head and the laugh was unusually mild given that he was more used to the other coming at him swinging.
In fact Falias couldn't recall a previous encounter - and they'd had a few - where the other man hadn't tried to attack him.
But today he seemed different, almost... Tired perhaps.
Which was perhaps why he found himself asking "What's wrong with you?" even as he continued to watch the other warily in case he suddenly reverted to something he was more used to and decided to come charging in with baton to hand... Or whatever it was his weapon had changed to now that he was now a Captain.Lithiasaur apologies for taking so long to tag this, I should have the other tag I owe you up soon-ish <3

Merlinite was a very different person. He had changed rapidly, in a very short period of time, which was probably as surprising to him as it would be for anyone else. He felt jarred and damaged, but he was learning.
Slowly.
In a very confusing way.
"Nothing. I mean. Everything. I don't know, man, don't press me about it. What's the difference to you, anyway? I thought you would be glad to not be smacked in the face right away."
He did have a spiked club that was built for such purposes. He just did not have the heart to use it any more. He did call it to his hand, making a show of it and swinging it a bit, listlessly, but it meant nothing.

The almost-rambling response that he received in answer wasn't doing anything to dissuade Falias from the thought that there was something wrong with the other man - in fact even the 'smacked in the face' comment had seemed almost half hearted as was the way that he swung his weapon after materialising.
Ironically there was nothing half hearted about the club that appeared to have taken the place of the annoying baton that the other had had back when he was a Lieutenant and Falias was once again struck by the fact that there was something so very unfair about Negeverse weapons - either that or something out there had a grudge against him given that his own counterpart 'weapon' was a wand and whilst marginally better than the mistletoe sprig, it didn't hide the fact that it was still pretty useless.
It was a familiar mental gripe and not one that the universe or whatever seemed to be willing to fix.
"You're right - I'd rather you not try to smack me with that thing" although club or not the other would find that Falias would still give if he got if he reverted to type. "But I was curious since you generally tend to come at me swinging." He paused for a moment then added "You know it's ironic all these encounters and I don't even know your name."

Merlinite had been very proud of his weapon, though now it seemed like a terrible force that he just did not want to use now. He was well aware of the damage it could do, and while it had been great when he wanted to hurt the white moon, now he was scared to hit anyone with it lest he do too much damage.
Funny, the way things turned around so quickly.
"It is pretty wicked looking, isn't it?"
He sighed, watching it and remembering all the senshi and knights he had hit with it so far, and how proud of himself he had been because he hurt them. It was a growing point of shame.
"My name is Merlinite. For now, anyway. I'm hoping... well. I mean. I guess if I become a knight I'll have a different name, right?"

Wicked-looking was a good way to describe the spiked club and not in the 'cool' or 'awesome' sense - however Falias found himself relaxing when it looked like the other wasn't about to imminently try and hit him with the thing because he did not want to try and match the wand that the cosmic thing having a cosmic joke at his expense seemed to think was equal counterpart against it and hope that his magic kicked in or something.
He hadn't really been expecting a name back in response to not knowing the other's name and so when Merlinite had given his name, Falias couldn't help but stare at him startled for a moment or two before answering "And I'm Falias - Falias Squire of Earth."
A thoughtful look slipped into his eyes as he considered Merlinite's question about names, before he admitted "To be honest I don't know much how it works" okay make that he didn't really know anything about how it worked. "You'd probably have to speak to someone who's been around for much longer than I have." Like Camelot perhaps.
Then he gave a wry quirk of his lips and a half shrug of his shoulders as he continued "Look given that we're not fighting can we keep it that way?"
Because more and more he was finding that he didn't want to have this - whatever this was - denigrate into one of their more usual encounters.Lithiasaur Would you mind if we switched this to a reg instead of a battle? Because at this moment I think it will take Merlinite quite literally trying to hit him to get Falias to want to fight him xD

litian Yeah definitely works as a Reg. "Falias, eh? What's that mean? Like. I know you're supposed to be named after stuff. I know Camelot is... you know. Round Table and s**t, but... I don't think I've heard Falias."
He nodded his head in agreement to not fighting. It seemed like the better option for both of them, oddly enough. Who would have thought he would just be talking to someone who had started out as, essentially, his rival?
Now he wanted to be on the same side as the guy. Go figure.
"Do you guys get to pick your planets or what? I mean, I guess not. Well. I wonder what I would end up being if I ever switched sides. Earth doesn't look too bad."
He wrinkled his nose.
"Right, right, you don't know. Well. I'll figure it out, I guess." He sighed. That was only the tip of the ice berg as far as his questions were concerned.

"It's linked to Irish mythology" Falias admitted. "It's one of the four cities of Tir Na nOg" he'd looked it up once out of curiosity. "My Wonder is actually a forest though."
He shook his head at Merlinite's question at whether Knights got to choose their planets "No we don't" he admitted, then thought about it for a few moments before adding. "Or at least if we can then I never got the chance to." One minute he had been chased by youma dog things and then the next there had been the sprig of mistletoe - it would be two years ago come April.
He shook his head at the thought finding it hard to believe that it had been almost two years already as he said "If you want to know more about purification then you should try talking to Camelot" Merlinite had mentioned his name so perhaps he knew him. "He's knows a lot about Knight stuff so maybe he could help you figure stuff out and he's nice - but not like an act nice - it's the real do."
He was speaking from his experience of the older man - Camelot was perhaps one of the nicest people he knew.

Merlinite couldn't help but wonder what planet or name he would get, if he did switch sides. Probably something stupid and embarrassing for him, he was sure.
Probably a dress or something.
At the mention of Camelot, Merlinite stiffly nodded his head. It was a very common suggestion, he noted, but it was also something he was very nervous about. Camelot had a lot of reasons to hate him, after all, and it was hard to think that someone could just forget all that.
Even if they were Royal, and one of the few that could actually purify negas... if they didn't like that nega, why would they want to?
"Yeah, maybe I'll talk to him sometime..." he said, noncommittally. Some time. Just maybe not right now.

And then suddenly the sort of half peace - or whatever it was that this encounter had ended up turning into - was broken.
Falias wasn't sure what had caused it, but he knew something had changed. It was in the stiff nod of Merlinite's head - in the sudden non-committal tone to his voice
"It was just a suggestion" he said a little stiffly and then he sighed, the stiffness fading as he continued "Just think about it, all right?"
But with the whatever it was gone, perhaps it was time for him to go - after all he'd meant it when he said that he'd rather they didn't fight tonight.Lithiasaur Do we want to move to a wrap on this?

Merlinite looked at Falias, not sure what to say now, frowning for a long moment before he shook his head and shoved his hands into his pockets.
He did not want to explain all the terrible things that had happened between the time when Merlinite decided he wanted to try to leave the side of Chaos and meeting Camelot. He did not think he could justify his choices out loud, and trying to would just make him even more hesitant.
He had to just get over it and talk to the royal knight, but it was just difficult for him to face his mistakes and all the guilt that came with it.
"Well... I guess I should head out before some one notices us talking. I guess I just... wanted to say... I'm sorry. For before. Or whatever, you know."

Falias nodded "Apology accepted" he said simply - well at least it was as long as Merlinite didn't try to come charging at him to swing things at him in future.
He hesitated for a moment "And I hope you manage to figure things out" and to his surprise he actually meant it - because when the other wasn't acting like a d**k he was actually okay - well at least he seemed that way at any rate.
Piece said he turned and started walking.
Merlinite wasn't the only one who needed to get going.Lithiasaur fin, although now Falias needs to totally find out what happened to Merlinite wink
