Ever since the events that had befallen him during the opening night of the carnival, Marlin had found himself on extended rest.

His father had taken over running the shop for a few days citing that he should use the opportunity to take a little break and Lisa had been in full mother hen mode despite the fact that Marlin really hated people fussing over him and had pointed out (several times) that (a) he was fine and (b) he was well able to look after himself.

It was probably just as well that his mother was out of town and tied up in things that she couldn't leave otherwise Marlin reckoned that she would probably turned up in Destiny City and tried to mother hen him too.

Mrlin drawn the line at Lisa's pointed suggestions that he go home with them and spend a few nights at their place, pointing out that the flat above the shop was pretty locally located and that he had friends he could call on if needs be. He had also pointed out that he had a full freezer and a working microwave and had promised not to try cooking anything while his hands were still bandaged up.

He had heaved a sigh of relief once his father had shut up shop and collected Lisa from his apartment, rung his mother to confirm once again that yes he was okay.

It was therefore later than planned when Marlin was able to leave his apartment. After finding somewhere that looked private enough he allowed himself to power up to Falias before leaving the alley and continuing on his way, heading towards the library. Falias' ultimate goal was to try and find Camelot - since that fall out of the carnival he'd been left with questions - questions he was hoping the Earth Knight would be able to answer.

Hope this works as a start

Any normal person would have called it quits after getting attacked by monsters in a very public place. Sophie was not a normal person. She had always known that. Her drive to make sure that everyone and everything was safe and happy was what fueled her. She was willing to work to make those things happen. If other people knew more than she did about it, she would track them down and find out what she needed to know. And she did need to know. This was not an idle search for her, despite how it had started. Now that she knew something was wrong in the city she called home, she needed to know more. It would, she thought, be easier for her to stop breathing than to stop wanting to change the world for the better. And that meant she had to know what was wrong, so that she could fix it.

Her searches didn't have much rhyme or reason to them. All she did was wait until dark and go for walks, changing up the area she wandered every couple of days. The carnival had made her wary enough to stay where she could get help, if it became necessary, but it hadn't stopped her from looking for possible killers. Her caution seemed to pay off rather more than she planned; she hadn't run into anyone promising since the large-scale monster attack. Still, considering the number of fighters she'd glimpsed at the carnival, she knew it was only a matter of time before she hit paydirt again. And sure enough...

"Hey, you! Wait up!" Realizing that she could be rushing up to meet with a murderer, Sophie's pace slowed for a moment. Then she shook her head and kept running. She had to find out more, and this was the only way to do it. And this guy didn't really look like a killer, though it was impossible to tell for sure. Shivering a bit, she pulled the hood on her sweatshirt up to keep her face in shadow, and studied this latest terrorist. There was a symbol on his clothing that she recognized from encountering another one of the terrorists, a circle with a cross inside. While checking the veracity of some of the things he'd told her, she'd researched that symbol, and discovered that it was the astronomical symbol for Earth. Which made sense, since that guy had told her he was a knight "sworn to Earth," whatever that meant.

Upon closer inspection, she could see a few of those same symbols, and decided to ask about them. "So are you 'sworn to Earth' too?" Maybe Earth was so popular because they were actually there. Sophie had a hard time imagining knights coming all the way from other planets just to fight terrorists. Even if they were magical terrorists.

Falias had heard the footsteps, but hadn't equated it as having anything to do with him and so had kept walking.

That was until the footsteps sped up and a voice had called out for someone to wait up.

Slowly dawning on him that perhaps whoever it was might be hailing him, Falias had slowed his pace and then finally stopped, turning to look behind him in the direction where the voice had come from.

The voice had sounded feminine, but whoever it was keeping the hood on their sweatshirt firmly on their head.

She - he was going to go with she - seemed to be staring at him, although Falias was unsure why - he was pretty sure that he'd never seen her before although with the hood and the darkness of the evening obscuring her features.

The staring had started to get a bit uncomfortable when she suddenly spoke, although the question wasn't one that he'd been expecting.

"Sworn to Earth too?" He looked puzzled. "What do you mean by that?" Falias was pretty sure he had sworn anything to anyone or anything - at least not since leaving school.

Sorry to be so slow with this

Was she wrong? Sophie looked at the symbols again. She’d seen one of the ones on his shoulder first, but now that he was facing her, she could see another one on his belt, and was positive. “That mark you’ve got there-” she pointed to the one at his waist- “I thought it was the Earth symbol, isn’t it? That other guy had them on his clothes too, so I looked it up. He said he was ‘sworn to Earth,’ so I guess I assumed... but maybe it could be a coincidence?” Now she was unsure, and she looked her latest subject over again.

“Well, if you’re not of Earth, which planet are you supposed to be sworn to?” Her tone was amused, and she almost hoped he would claim to be an alien from another planet. Even after everything she had seen, she wasn’t sure she believed anything that ridiculous. It would be interesting if he tried to change her mind, though.

Ditto. But no worries! <3

"Well I'm a Page of Earth" Falias admitted. "But I didn't know it meant swearing to anything. It just..." A brief moment of hesitation on his part "Happened" he finised somewhat lamely.

It had quite literally just happened - one minute he had been trying to run for his life from two hound-like things as Marlin and the next he was sporting an outfit change and finding out that he was apparently a Page of Earth, monsters existed and the two things that had been trying to kill him were examples of them.

He looked at the hooded woman curiously "How do you know so much about the symbols anyway?" Falias had had no idea that the crossed circle was actually supposed to represent Earth, although granted he hadn't tried to find out either.

'It just happened' was a sentiment that Sophie had heard before. That didn't making hearing it any less frustrating. "What, you got bitten by a radioactive spider? Recruited by the Lantern Corps? Something must be behind all of this. Humans don't spontaneously develop superpowers! What is this, X-Men?"

It felt like these people were trying to shut her out, and she hated that. What gave them the right to keep this secret? Why should they get to decide whether she was worthy or not? Especially since she seemed to be doing legwork than any of them!

In response to the question, Sophie pulled out her memo pad and flipped open to the page of notes she had on Alfheim. "You're not the first one I've met," she said simply. "After I met the last one, I did a little research. Most of the leads came up empty, but the symbol got results. Every little bit helps. I mean... aren't you curious? If this did happen as suddenly as you claim, wouldn't you want to find out more?"

What was with these people? Why didn't they care about this amazing thing that was going on?

"More like chased by hound monster things" Falias admitted. And he honestly had no idea what was behind it all - it wasn't like he'd been at this (whatever this was) particularly long. It had been April - not exactly that long ago.

He blinked as the other pulled out a memo pad, eying the writing implement warily. "You're not some kind of reporter are you?" Falias didn't particularly want to find himself ending up as part of a news report - besides he'd heard some of the news reports on Destiny City's 'terrorist' situation and it generally wasn't particularly flattering.

"You're not the only one who's been chased by a monster," Sophie said dismissively. "So that can't have been the catalyst. Try again."

It was funny how one question could put a whole new spin on the situation. "No, I'm not a reporter. I'm just a concerned citizen, trying to educate myself on a serious issue. But that does beg the question, doesn't it? Why is this being so misreported? It's clear that not everyone who runs around in a strange costume is out to commit crimes. Anyone who bothers to do a little bit of research can find that out. So why is the media so clueless? The lies are very convincingly done, so most people don't bother to dig deeper. But it's their job to dig deeper. I can't believe they wouldn't have better information.

"Then again," she added, "if you're all so reluctant to talk to people, then you only have yourselves to blame for being misrepresented in the media."

Falias gave the woman an annoyed look as she casually dismissed his answer, his annoyance temporarily overridding her worry that she might be some undercover reporter "Look given that you already seem to know the answers, why are you asking me?" After all he'd been pretty much honest with what happened - it wasn't his fault that he didn't have whatever answer she seemed to think he should have.

His annoyance lessoned somewhat at her response to his 'are you a reporter question', Falias starting to feel a little bad at his outburst and then felt himself getting annoyed all over again at her 'only yourselves to blame comment'.

"Look lady" he sighed. "Just insert whatever answer you think should be the catalyst as a response. After all you pretty much seem to have much more answers than me."

Yes he was being (as his mother would say) rude. No he didn't care.

Were all supposed terrorists this frustrating? Or only the ones she met?

"I don't know the answers," Sophie explained, trying to be patient. "Or at least, not enough of them. What I do know, I've learned by talking to others like you, and added my own experiences. Being chased by a monster cannot be what causes the sudden gain of..." She paused, still feeling kind of silly talking about what they were talking about so seriously. "Magic. I'll accept that it's magic, because I've seen it for myself. But if everyone whose lives are endangered has access to this power, nobody would be dying. Everyone would be able to protect themselves. Do you see where I'm going with this?"

Even if Sophie herself was, for some reason, immune to whatever was going on, that didn't explain things. Yvette couldn't protect herself from monsters. Most people who ended up in the hospital couldn't either. It was only natural to assume that the cause lay elsewhere.

"If most people cannot protect themselves, it falls to people like you to protect them. But if you don't even know the source of all of this, I really have to intervene." Not that she would stop asking questions even if this guy had all the answers, but the fact that he didn't made it even more imperative that she find out what was going on, and fast.

Gah, I will not fall behind on this again!

Falias sighed "Look all I can tell you is what happened to me and that is that one minute monsters were chasing me and the next minute I'm suddenly like this - I have no idea why it happened or why me instead of someone else."

He frowned slightly as he remembered what Camelot had told him "But the Knight who rescued me said that it happened because the magic judged me worthy and thought I needed it."

He sighed again as he added "It's as good a reason as any." Especially since he was convinced that when it came to magic someone out there was laughing at him given that magic in his case seemed to consist of an outfit change and a piece of mistletoe which was just that - a piece of mistletoe.
