Lieutenant Merlinite had not been making as much progress in his career as a Negaverse officer as he wanted to. Much like in his real life, as a legitimate officer. He hadn't joined the force yet, and he had no chance of reaching his goals without changing his tactics. That was what both needed, really.

A new start. A new change, to reinvigorate his efforts and give him a new vantage point to get along from.

He was out on his patrol and he was ready for that change. No more recklessly barreling into fights! No more antagonizing every senshi he ran into. Time to play the nice guy and see if they wanted to be his friend, use them for what information he could get out of them, then lure them into traps and take the rest of what he needed from them that way. It seemed like such a simple practice!

He was actually pretty excited to try it out. Hopefully he could run into someone that didn't already know he was an a*****e Negaverse soldier that couldn't be trusted as far as he could be thrown.

Turning around a corner, he moved out into the street from an alleyway, leaving a slumped over, sleeping body behind him. They were thoroughly drained of their energy.

Unlike Merlinite, Falias didn’t particularly see being a Page as some sort of career. He'd hadn't applied for the role and there'd been no job interview - just a piece of mistletoe which despite its floating in the air properties when it first appeared was just that - a piece of mistletoe.

It didn't stop him from hitting the patrol beat though, although Falias wasn't planning to be out too long - not with the early start that he had waiting for him as Marlin at the shop tomorrow on account of it being Halloween.

He picked up on a nearby aura, the familiar sense of wrongness beating at him denoting it to be from one from the Negaverse, the strength of it suggesting a Nega-Lieutenant.

Falias came across the source as they walked out into the street a little way ahead, recognising the black and green clad Lieutenant.

Merlinite was out of luck, Falias might not have known his name, it not something that had come up at their last encounter, he did however know that the other was an a** and he certainly didn't trust him.

Merlinite stopped when he felt the senshi getting closer, and he turned to look at the source of the aura when it was within range. He had his best, friendliest smile ready for the show, but it immediately dropped off his face when he recognized who it was. He frowned at the senshi, putting his hands on his hips.

"Oh, it's you again. I remember you. I owe you a good beat down."

He was pretty sure he had almost won the last fight, as far as he was concerned. Sure, he had to initiate a kind of tactical retreat, but if he had really wanted to he was sure he could have beaten the guy, with a little more time and focus. Right? Of course! Why wouldn't he? He was a bad a**.

Obviously.

Because he won fights so often.

"You seem to have some bad karma or something, running into me again. I'm going to make sure things go better this time, and you end up walking away with your tail between your legs." He grinned at that, calling his baton to his hand.

"Actually I remember it differently," Falias pointed out, a trace of annoyance on his face as he stared at the Nega-Lieutenant unimpressed.

After all just because the other started the whole thing by dropping out a tree and coming out swinging, he certainly hadn’t stood there and let the Nega beat on him - in fact Falias remembered giving back as good as he got and had got hits of his own in on the other.

He looked irritated as the other summoned his baton as he wondered if it was too much to ask for him to have an encounter with the other side without them up and out attacking, part of him also felt a little envious though.

Although he knew that Valhalla had suggested that he not think of the mistletoe he was saddled with as a weapon and that the other’s 'baton' was not exactly some super-awesome video game style weapon of doom, it was hard not to think of how unfair things were - after all the Nega-Lieutenant’s baton was still a heck of a lot more useful than a piece of mistletoe.

He waited for the other’s first move, prepared to dodge as necessarily in an attempt to avoid getting hit with the Nega’s baton before trying to get a hit in of his own. If the Lieutenant wanted to fight then so be it, but Falias didn’t intend to just stand there and be the other’s 'beating-on target' any more than he had last time.

How did you want this one to turn out?

Merlinite was not interested in listening to facts as Falias remembered them. Clearly events were remembered differently by different parties, and the other fighter was just trying to paint himself in a better light now, after the fact, hoping that Merlinite's memory would be fuzzy.

That was not going to work!

Sure, it was not true. Merlinite had gotten his butt handed to him and Falias had managed to put up a very good fight, but that was besides the point as far as the Negaverse soldier was concerned. This was a new day, a new fight! They had to end this little rivalry now.

Merlinite wanted to be the winner. He wanted it so badly, he could taste it. There was only one way to get there, though, and that was the direct route. He knew his straight forward approach hadn't worked last time, so this time he charged as if to swing for Falias' face, as he had done before, but feinted the attack and swung his whole body around to duck down and swing low at Falias' side.

The Nega-Lieutenant’s tactics worked, as Falias expecting a frontal assault had started to dodge only to have the other’s weapon rap him smartly in the side.

He hissed at the pain that danced up his side in its wake, but kept moving, trying to ignore it as he tried to put enough distance between them so he could go through with his earlier plan to get his own attack in if the other attacked - which he did in the form of trying to kick the Nega-Lieutenant - hard.

Falias wasn't particularly fond of fighting, but that hadn't stopped him from somehow ended in quite a few skirmishes since first powering up back in April. He tried his best in them as he would now, determined never again to get beaten to a pulp again as he had during his worst encounter - not if he could help it.

Hmm Falias has ended up in quite a few fights so maybe another draw if that's ok, otherwise a narrow win (don't mind who)

Merlinite neeever wins his fights, and it's starting to make him emo, ahahaha.

Whoo!

Merlinite had landed a hit, and a good one at that! He did not mind the feeling of sheer adrenaline and excitement that rushed through him at the success. He could get used to actually fighting and being able to do damage. He wanted to win! He wanted to get stronger! Yes, he needed to keep his focus, he needed to keep the momentum going.

He watched the other fighter, frowning seriously in focus as they circled a bit, Falias getting some distance between them and giving Merlinite a chance to recover himself too. He moved to try and block the attack but was a bit too slow, getting kicked and bouncing with the movement, at least, to try and lengthen the distance between them again.

"You've been practicing too, huh? Alright! I think we can make this work. You and me, battling it out! A fight for the ages, no doubt!" He grinned, hiding the pain from the kick under his pointless boasting.

Falias felt his foot connect with the Nega Lieutenant, the other moving with the impact, the movement putting a bit of space between them.

He watched the other warily to see what the other's next move would be, shooting the Nega an irritated look as he started going on about them battling it out. "Don't you have anything better to do?" he asked at last, his usually cheerful voice tinged with annoyance.

Falias was getting pretty tired with Nega people taking swings at him, or as had been the case with the blond Nega Captain chucking things at him (aka a table) during the DestinyCon convention craziness.

He didn't want to get into some kind of duking out match and he certainly wasn't looking for some sort of fighting rival - he'd disliked that sort of thing back in his school playground days and he certainly wasn't looking to relive them.

In fact even now Falias would be pretty happy to just walk away, walking away being his preferred option. He wasn't really expecting the Nega to oblige him and just back off though - not with the stupid grin on the other's face suggesting otherwise.

The other's grin was met with an annoyed frown, if the Lieutenant was looking for a soft target then Falias would show him to think again. He wasn't planning on playing victim - not for him or for anyone else for that matter.

I dun think that Falias wants to be Merlinite's grand rival xD

Merlinite looked thoughtful for a moment, really considering the question. Did he have anything better to do with his time? No, not really. He was here to fight good guys, and Falias seemed to constantly be getting in his field of view. It made him a good target, and thus it made him the thing to focus on. So, naturally, he had nothing better to be doing with his time because he was just doing what he was supposed to be doing.

It seemed fairly easy for him to suss out, but White Moon folks never seemed to figure it out.

"What's the matter, little guy? Not sure you can keep up with me, is that it? I know you're intimidated, but who knows, maybe you'll surprise yourself? I'm sure you've got a few hits in you, and you can probably take punches like a champ! Yours is a face that look likes it gets punched regularly."

He grinned cheekily at him, all teasing and confidence. If he didn't have to fight and could still call it a win, he'd take that, too.

To his surprise, the Nega seemed to actually consider his question - or at least Falias was pretty sure that that was a thoughtful look that he was seeing on the other’s face.

A moment passed, then another and Falias began to think that maybe the other really would back off.

And then the Nega-Lieutenant had to open his mouth and ruin it - in fact the more that the other spoke - the more that Falias felt like gritting his teeth in annoyance, seriously he could feel the enamel wearing down.

Maybe it was the 'little man,' or the 'intimidated' comment, or maybe even the grin on the other’s face, either way it was rubbing him up the wrong way and making Falias start to seriously reconsider the 'trying to be the better person' stance that he was trying to take.

Part of him felt he had try though "You know there's better things to do than act like a playground brat." Although actually it was looking almost tempting if just to wipe the stupid grin off the other's expression.

Merlinite tilted his head to the side as if he had just learned that the world was not flat or round, but square. He shook his head in exaggerated surprise and worry, covering his mouth to hide the gasp he had to force out of his mouth.

"There are better things?! I can't wait to find them! Because this is pretty fun already." He grinned and dropped his hands, rolling his eyes.

He was not very good at his job. He knew that. He was supposed to be staying focused, supposed to be asking questions and gathering information. He was supposed to be doing a lot of things, but he was instead just trying to fight and have some fun. He needed to either think about changing teams and working for a more brawl oriented tier, or actually getting his head into the game and doing things like he was supposed to.

Later. Right now, he had a bit of a rival on his hands. He charged, not wanting to waste more time on chatter if he could avoid it, lunging for the other and swinging his baton as he went.

Personally Falias could do without finding out what the Nega's idea of 'better' things were, but it seemed with the other's comment that conversation time was over, as the Nega-Lieutenant started acting true to Falias' experience of him again and charged in his direction with that damned baton of his swinging.

Falias wasn't sure that he'd dodge out of the way in time, so instead tried to lesson any potential damage from the thing by turning so that it would hit his side, while at the same time trying to swing out at the Lieutenant hard.

Merlinite was all fight and vigor, but his follow through was still lacking. He had very little stamina and really needed to focus on training more than just finding fights and hoping he got better with each one. But he had only so much brain to spare, and most of it he kept tied up in his fighting scheme.

One day he would learn, but chances were good that today was not that day.

He did manage to smack his baton rather hard into Falias' side, and he let out a whoop of surprise and pleasure at the feeling of landing a solid hit. Which, of course, was promptly cut off and followed by a grunt of pain and irritation as he was punched in the face and sent stumbling sideways. He caught his footing after three or four wobbly steps, but it put him at a short distance away from Falias again.

"Damn!" He said, and he moved to circle around the other, waiting for a good opening. Because that was what he needed. An opening to go barreling into the other again.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 11, 2014 1:16 pm

Falias yelped as the baton rapped smartly into his side, pain blooming in its wake - even though he had been anticipating the hit, the thing still stung and the Lieutenant had swung it hard enough for the thing to potentially bruise.

Taking the hit had put the Lieutenant in close proximity to him however and it meant that his attempt at a follow up swing had also connected and rather solidly - right in the Nega-Lieutenant's whooping and cheering face.

It knocked the other back a few steps and gave him a bit of space, although Falias had the feeling that it wasn't the end of it - something that was proved right when the Lieutenant moved to start circling him. Although he didn't plan to let the Nega-Lieutenant have things all his own way, at least not if he could help it, given that it would mean letting the other beat on him.

And so he waited for an opportunity of his own, suddenly darting in when he thought he had one whilst doing his best to keep an eye on the Lieutenant's baton since he didn't particularly want to open himself up for a face shot from the other. His aim to try and get the element of surprise on his side and use it to try and trip the other in the hopes that maybe he could try and bring this fight thing to an end.

Merlinite was smarting and in a foul mood now, glaring at the other combatant and trying to force himself to focus. He needed more of that in his life, focus, but he was easily distracted by his own thoughts of grandeur and he goals for himself. He saw the end before he got there which, usually, left him not getting there.

It was a bad cycle to get caught in, really.

Whoa, the other guy was on the attack! Merlinite had not been expecting that one, as so far it was the Nega that was making most of the brash and forward attacks. He was not anticipating it, using that damned focus he was trying to practice to look for a place to launch his own attack.

"Goddamn it!" Merlinite managed, before he was tripped up by the other and sent tumbling to the ground in a fairly embarrassing and haphazard display of utter gracelessness.
