A lot of it. Growing up with the attitude he had to fight for his s**t made him often focus in on things and think tactically, and practically. Sacrificing things for the greater needs of others? Okay, done, so long as it means that the end goal will be accomplished. Putting himself at risk so another teammate might be able to see another day? Not that bad. He lived a semi-difficult life, but not too difficult. He lived, he made it work. While he is uptight about getting s**t done he’s not just that. Once stuff is done he does relax and calm down. Unwound, Marcus is fairly mellow, fine with lazing about and just keeping to himself or enjoying some quite company. You might not see him being a party animal, but he’d still go to a party, if just to socialize and take his mind off of work. He likes being serious and having things set up for success, but if no goal or task is presented, he'll relax and calm down. Sadly, in being so task oriented, he can lose sight of what is on the side, effectively giving himself tunnel vision and forgetting his job in the first place. Desiderio is pretty good in keeping Marcus from deviating from his work when it needs to be done, and they do feed on one another rather well. Marcus would be reluctant to admit it but, he does share some Dis’s..tastes. Just not so overtly. Really. Try to at least have some tact! Oh, on the test thing, please don't remind him of it. If Marcus had to describe his partner, he would say 'really ******** gay, to the stereotyped TV troped cut out'. But does Desiderio care? Not really. Why? Because oh, Marcus, what soft yet manly hands you have~! The former vampire loves the fact that he can get under Marcus’s skin with just the simple fact that he likes men to a level Marcus absolutely does not. Constantly teasing and taunting his partner, the blade enjoys testing the limits of control Marcus has, and when he can set his hunter off, Desiderio has even more fun reprimanding Marcus for getting distracted. It’s up for debate if the former vampire was a raging queen, since he also will attempt to distract Marcus by pointing out women as well. As a flat rule, the curved sword loves to try and distract Marcus just because he can. But when they get down to the knitty gritty, he keeps quite or will offer reminders to just what they are supposed to be doing, (note the irony here). Until it’s over in which he might lament over killing what it would call a very handsome young man…troll..thing.
Not all of Desidero is focused on sexuality. While it certainly plays a large role to the weapon's thoughts, he's proved that he's something Marcus needs. The weapon will tease and taunt, but has a deep level of caring for the hunter, and will genuinely try to help Marcus through troubling emotional states. Desidero acts as a constant, something that Marcus simply never had and doesn't quite grasp. While the hunter thinks he is not wanted or needed or even truly loved, Desidero acts as a reminder that even if the word burns, the weapon would remain by his side.
Often, they share emotional states, though Desidero is usually the more calm or humored of the pair. While Marcus gets infuriated by something simple, the weapon would laugh and mock him. While Marcus would get mad at a halloweener, the weapon would sooth him. The way Desidero acts depends on the situation. He might treat it flippantly, but the second he feels Marcus is threatened, the weapon's own desire to live kicks in, spurring him to aid Marcus in whatever way he can.
The reason the pair work as well as they do is the fact both of them have a single common thread and goal. Survival. Desidero believes that surviving doesn't have to be lonely or joyless, while that is all Marcus knew before Deus ex. It's their drive to survive, the willingness to ignore their immediate happiness that allows them to work in a unified mannerAbusive doesn't begin to cover the relationship they share. Parasitic is a much better starting point. The loss of their shared memories post Merlin's distortion- Desidero has once again, become trusted by his Hunter on the surface. While Marcus is well aware Dis manipulates, the vampire has not hidden his true self as deeply as before, and no longer has put up a complete farce for his loathing of Marcus's emotional ties to others. His vision of Marcus is one of power- one of command, a thing Marcus has no desire for... at least not beyond getting stronger. While Marcus wishes for the strength to better protect and fight, Dis wishes for the strength to rule and command. The goals are in the end, different, yet often overlap and so, Dis uses it to his advantage when possible. The vampire also fuels Marcus's growing self doubts about his ability to have or share empathy, and his ability to love and care for others without also doing them harm. The vampire knows that Marcus needs this human validation, but at the same time the he refuses to let Marcus be 'manipulated' by 'weaker' emotions. Overall, Dis is coveting of Marcus, and is still driven by the need to survive, the need of power. Yet for each grab at Marcus's heart and mind, he feeds him scraps and occasionally, the love he feels for Marcus-twisted or no. His love for Marcus is genuine, and Dis greatest fear is that he shall destroy the parts of Marcus that he loves. Yet he's very much aware that he's also trying to break the very same thing he loves. A contradiction, Dis wants ultimately, that which he cannot have. Weapon Ability Vampire Venom -Tainted Fang-Y2 Thirst- The Bite Y2 Desidero's Kiss- The Chill Y3 Having survived a near death experience of being the captive of several Horsemen, Marcus's body was subjected to a forced accelerated healing, doing lasting physical and psychological harm. While he lives a relatively impact free life from many of what would have been disabling if not crippling side effects or damages, as a result of the healing that was forced, the weapon bond with Desidero was altered. For better or worse, Marcus's newfound limitations and abilities are a source of pain for the hunter- a constant reminder that he is forever human, and forever weak. Bond Pros/ConsPros:-Healing-Faster Healing: Marcus can heal from wounds at a slightly faster rate than normal hunters. Primarily seen with burns, his rate of healing is accelerated, though it can cause him to feel tired or 'stiff' afterwards, (applying mostly to when he requires bed rest). This can be just by a few hours for minor things to a day or two cut down of healing time. -Healing-Muscle tension: Stiff muscles, if not caused by healing, will relax much quicker. What might leave someone else sore from training the other day, Marcus would feel only mild discomfort if none at all. He can still get stiff with new exercises, but the rate of recovery from them is quicker, and ties into- -Healing-Stamina recovery: While he heals faster and his muscles recover quicker from exhaustion, so does his physical stamina. This does not affect his 'power' or ability to attack so much as how fast he can get a second wind, and how long he'll need a break from something intense like training or fighting. -FEAR Drain-FEAR Flavor: Dis is more easily able to drain FEAR from non 'living' sources. The dead have never particularly appealed to Dis in terms of taking FEAR, but with the ability to take that FEAR and channel it into Marcus FEAR draining comes more naturally with the undead and Dis is less adverse to it. -FEAR Drain-Ambient FEAR sense: A heightened desire for FEAR leaves Dis more keen to ambient FEAR in the air or in objects.
-FEAR Drain-Charge retention: Mostly flavor and I highly doubt having any merit in actual battle, Dis is better able to store the FEAR charges acquired, and will try to use the charge, if fading, as a slight buffer to Marcus's FEAR shield. Cons:- Weapon Bond-Distance: With Dis's underlying fear that he's not wanted, Dis will begin to force himself back to Marcus's side if the distance is greater than 30 feet. 10 feet the weapon will begin to get needy, at 20 Dis gets all the NOPE. At 30 Dis says ******** THIS. And shoves himself back onto Marcus. This like all other force reappearances by a weapon, drains Dis of his FEAR, rendering Marcus unable to summon him for a short amount of time, or, a greater expense to his own FEAR sheild. -Weapon Bond-Time Separated: Going in hand with Dis not wanting to be off of Marcus, even if he's near, the weapon will begin to get antsy and want to get back onto Marcus. Unlike distance, Dis won't force himself back onto Marcus but will retaliate when Marcus picks him up. With either absolute silence, high pitched screeching ‘similar’ to that of a bat, or a 'crackle' of FEAR hitting Marcus, much like a static charge. Nothing damaging but annoying. Time separated needing to be around 30 minutes.
-Weapon Bond-Mental Loudness: With the exception of Dis's anger, Dis will no longer be able to 'drown out' what Marcus physically hears, and while feelings and emotions are still easy to send to Marcus, words can be drowned out by outer factors. If Dis wishes to overcome this he must 'exert' himself mentally, leaving the former vampire mentally drained after his yelling, and for a short while will not be able to communicate with Marcus in words, only in feelings and emotions. This can make Marcus more susceptible to illusions and things like trance. -Elemental Resistance-Light: Marcus can no longer easily see in anything that is brighter than overcast. White rooms with florescent lights, sunny days, snow, cloudless days- he'll either be forced to shield his eyes, wear sunglasses, or go nearly blinded. He'll also burn very easily with prolonged exposure to the sun. If he remains in a bright place without eye/skin protection too long he'll begin to get headaches and feel ill, (somewhat like lupus), and in the case of sunlight, sunburns. -Elemental Resistance-Fire/Heat: Aside from sunlight, Marcus burns from fire much easier. While he can now heal from these burns at a slightly faster rate he's more prone to being burned. What might cause a first degree could end up as a second degree burn for him. Hot objects such a metals, hot water, might not cause a physical burn, but they'll cause a far more painful sensation than normal. 'Scalding' hot showers would cause a real burn that would warrant mild treatment. If Marcus is wearing thick clothes he's prone to overheating much more easily. Dehydration can also become a fast issue if he begins to sweat.
-Elemental Resistance-Cold: With the inability to stand heat comes the inability to stand cold. Marcus might not feel pain, but he'll feel stiff if not properly insulated and will have trouble keeping tabs on his own 'threshold'. Cold won't hurt him, and it might slow him down, but he'll be rather obvious to something like frostnip, and if he's being overly stubborn, frostbite. To prevent this, he'll have to majorly layer up, and if he does so improperly, he becomes a walking marshmallow. A for effort Marcus.

Life Before  He grew up in the slums of New York, just outside Manhattan island. His mom worked two jobs, and his older brother was a high school drop out also working full time to help support the family. Both his elder brother and younger were only half siblings, all three the result of three failed marriages. Needless to say he didn’t live some glamorous life style, but he also was lucky enough to not really get involved with gangs or any sort of ‘disreputable people’ as his mother would tell him. No, Marcus more or less was determined not to become another statistic cliché case study or some poster child for immigrant rights or some funky a** s**t like that. (He was a third generation kid okay, jesus). He was taught how to live on the basics, the bare minimum. He was taught how to survive and how to work to survive. He had been able to sparsely see shadows since he was very young, but his ability did not fully manifest until he was 12 by which point he'd silenced himself about the things he saw, both due to being told it wasn't right, and due to notion he was unwanted enough already. He did not want to risk him being abandoned due to what he claimed to have seen. Anyways, growing up outside of a metropolis had it perks, and one of those was being able to go in and just live. Free running became his favorite hobby, and him and several of his friends would go into town and just practice doing tricks and attempting moves, often resulting in a few falls and multicolored bruises. It was the one activity Marcus was not so stiff or serious about. It was the one thing he could just cut loose and be free. This didn’t last long as one of his closer friends however attempted a move on a railing and fell, resulting in double fracture in his leg. While everyone cited it as an accident, his friend claims he felt someone, or something nipped at his foot, causing him to lose his balance and fall. While Marcus never agreed, since the event he got a sense of uneasiness around his friend, who had become more and more paranoid until he was just a reflection of who he’d once been, and now was a very easily frightened young man, hardly the same as the guy who had once free run with him. At that time, Marcus had been 15. While Marcus found himself uneasy around his buddy, it was like being watched or that yeah, just like his friend was saying, something was nearby. Sure Marcus would openly shrug and laugh it off, but internally, he couldn’t. It never really went away. Slowly, Marcus began to get the same feeling when people around him would become afraid or accidents might occur. Most often, he got this feeling late at night, when he’d see people walking along, always looking over their shoulder. Still, Marcus kept up with his studies, and eventually graduated high school. But the strange feeling he had persisted. They finally accumulated on the day of his graduation, so many people were afraid of messing up, tripping falling, the sense he’d never been able to place overwhelming him. He didn’t like it, not one bit. Post graduation, he was approached by a man who told him that what he felt in the auditorium wasn’t false, that the feeling he got over the years were not just random accidents. He had an ability. The offer of a job, strange sounding or not, was tempting. He was at the cusp of life, not yet decided on his career choice. To learn about this unknown, to do something greater? Yeah. That seemed like a better offer then working full time to save up for college. Family:Mother: Joanne Arnolds (French) Older brother: Michael Strauss (Irish) Younger brother: Matthew Baker (German) Marcus is the only one in his family with obvious racial difference. His father was Arabic, and he doesn't know where/what nationality. His mother never knew or cared, and his father left shortly after he was born.

A threat is a threat and he is perhaps the largest one amongst us. The rage Marcus feels for this one is like a white fire-intense and hard to suppress. Pressed and pressed and now a seed of hate has begun to bloom- he dreams of single death and so- he cracks. I feel naught but joy at this hatred of his, of this fire. One day Marcus will need to kill for his sake, for our sake. This hate is but a step towards molding my Marcus to what he must become.

Favorite Things  Marcus loves frozen blueberries to snack on. When he can get them, he quickly sneaks back to his room, to horde them. They're a bit of a guilty pleasure.  Aside from frozen blueberries, he likes to also go for chili hot chocolate. It a love of his that apparently... not many share. he's hopeful however that he will find someone who is will to try it at the very least, (and like it so he doesn't seem weird). Seafood, (particularly shellfish [lobster])- Growing up Marcus rarely was treated to things that were deemed 'expensive' by his mother and neither of his brothers had a taste for seafood. As such he grew up rarely having it and to date, still views it as a rare, near impossible treat. His first encounter with lobster was at his 16th birthday, the second when he was at Vegas for his bachelor party. Cass however, spoils him sometimes and lets him order it when they go out.

His brother, (Marcus's Uncle) had several children, of oh whom is Ian another being Alistaire. Marcus found that his father never quite told anyone about his son to anyone in his family, tho his marriage to Marcus's mother was a short affair. As such, he grew up unaware that he had any relatives from his father's side. Just as much as they had no idea that Marcus's father had a child to begin with.
