New moons, new moons, Marcus was just hoping no one transferred. A few from the recently awakened had been pulled into the ranks of the defenders and healers one names Heidi Potter.

Marcus wasn’t sure just what exactly to make of that but then again he’d encountered weirder things then a name.

But regardless she was new and probably needed to be given a basic run down of just what it was moon hunters did and, she would also probably need practice as well. Popping his shoulder’s he’d sent her a simple text. An invite really.
Eight
Text to Heidi Ms. Potter please report to Princess Island at 1100 for an introduction to moon division and training. Be sure to have eaten and stretched before you arrive.

As he read it again after sending it, it was more an order, even if he did say please. A quick makeshift breakfast of a protein bar and juice from the moon lounge, Marcus went over to the station, waiting for the new trainee to arrive.

The clock chimes on a brand new day~. There is something it wants to say~. Matilda sang, though she seemed to have an issue with using her 'inside voice'. And, well, singing well. Heidi sat up in bed, having laid down to try and take a nap, and looked around in a panic. Huh?! What?! The sun shines brightly, and it comes by it rightly~. You should check your little device, it might have some advice~.

"Could you maybe lower your voice a little? I think I might get a headache if you keep--" The phone she'd been provided beeped. Heidi blinked, reaching for it and checking what it was. Oh! A text! Well that was a stupid ringtone. Could she change it? God she hoped so. Oh cool! Training! Heidi grinned and then frowned. Wait, what was protocol? Was she supposed to like...answer this? Or just show up? But then how would they know she actually received the text and something awful didn't happen.

...She should answer.

Okay!

Now where was Princess Island..? Funny name.

It was almost 11 when Heidi came jogging up to the meeting place, a slice of toast hanging from her lips that she very eagerly ate once she found where she was. "Hi!" Heidi greeted cheerfully, keeping a hand covering her mouth while she spoke with her mouth full of toast. "I'm Heidi! You Marcus?" She was at the right place, right? "I know you said eat before I arrive but," she paused to chew and swallow the toast. "I had no idea where this place was soooo I figured two birds one stone." Heidi even made little jazz hands beside her head. Hooray! She made it!

‘Okay’ was more of a reply than he’d been expecting honestly. He was used to the whole ‘don’t ask simply do’ mentality many trainees and hunters adopted. Unless you didn’t plan to show up you didn’t always text back. You didn’t always have time for it either. So, getting a simple okay was as far as Marcus was concerned, pretty good.

When a girl arrived, toast in mouth, Marcus smirked and shook his head. Well, it was good enough. “Nice to meet you Heidi. And Yeah, Marcus Hasan, technically your senior but-“ He gave an impassive shrug. Age, maturity... “Seniority doesn’t matter so much as rank and division. If it wasn’t already pretty obvious, just go with whoever has the highest rank in the room and is closest to your division unless told otherwise.” Motioning over to the training course he pointed at the center. “But welcome to the hunter ranks. Saw your name on the phone, did a little digging, and well, you’ve been placed into the ranks of defenders and healers. So, figured if no one has given you a rundown of just what we do, I guessed I could help start you off with the easiest of the moon courses.” Nearby there was the sound of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ being sung off key. “Shall we get started?”

So age didn't matter. Okay. Were there higher ranked people than her that were younger? Neat! Not that it would have mattered to her anyway. But uh... "How can I tell who outranks me? Is there, like, a badge system like in the military or is it just super obvious? I've only met one other dude aside from you and Otto and.." Suddenly she blushed. He was naked. There's no way to tell someone's rank when they're naked. "A-and I couldn't tell anything from who he was." That worked.

Heidi's gaze followed the direction Marcus was pointing in, giving the course a curious look while Marcus explained they were the 'defenders and healers' division. Cool! "Not yet, really. S'only been a couple days since I woke up and all. Sure, just show me what..to..." Uhhh...

"Is someone else joining us?" They needed some singing lessons.

Marcus nodded as she asked her question before he smirked about the Otto bit. Of all the hunters to meet after waking up. “It’s simple really. Our coats are the basic way we identify rank and division. Mine has the colored trim and faded end along with sleeves. For full hunters, this is mandatory style. The insignia on the back is obviously, what division I’m in. Plain white coat with division means you’re a trainee. Colored trim and symbol mean you’re an intermediate. There are badges we can have on our coats that indicate if we are a specialist in a particular field. Division leaders have more ornate coats, assistants just between leader and hunter. The coat is what identifies you’re a hunter.”

Dis was rolling his eyes at the explanation. Needless to the vampire, it was all needless. “Otto’s a full hunter by the way. He’s one of the youngest as well, though, not as young as Gale.” A small laugh under his breath, Marcus went over to a control panel, pushing a few buttons while typing in a code. “It’s pretty simple out here. You grab a princess golem, go down to the center and set him or her up. Follow that up with building a wall to defend her from the shadowlings.” A look given he expected her to know what those were at least. “Once done building the wall, you come back up here and let the little buggers have a run and your defense. If you pass, your princess is safe, if not, they die a slow and horrible death.”

This, coming from the one who had let the Clarice golem go through 20 some off rounds of attacks before she had died. Good times.

While Marcus was explaining it was the coats Heidi had reached around to pull her own coat in a way that she could see the back, and then she stepped closer to try and see Marcus' better. Interesting! "Specialist? What's your specialty?" She hoped it wasn't something she needed to know just by looking. This was going to take getting used to, and it'd be nice if she had that intermediate hunter coat to see what Marcus was talking about. But she was paying very close attention to what was being said!

Otto looked her age, how young was he? Heidi was curious who this Gale was. A little kid? She listened attentively to his explanation on..princess golems, furrowing her brow as her only sign of being confused by what he was saying. Must have been one of those things where it makes more sense in action than explanation. At the look she straightened up and blinked, putting on a perfect poker face. What? She totally understood all of this.

So they had to protect to the princess. That didn't seem too hard. She followed Marcus to pick up their princess, finding she didn't actually know who this girl was. "Hi! So she's our princess?"

He didn't quite expect to be asked just what he specialized in. He frankly didn't know if he even qualified for anything. "Uhhh... Well." He scratched at his neck, particularly over the scar Dis had left him. He really didn't specialize in anything did he? Dis just chuckled in the back of his mind, not making any sound beyond that.

"I don't have a specialist rank. I've mostly done work all over the moon division so..." He gave a shrug. "I just aim to be useful and help others as I can." He tried but it was debatable how well he did. As Heidi pulled out the princess Golem Marcus snorted back a laugh. "So it would seem. A fitting princess at that, the hunter this one's based off is Eva, death division. Sweetest girl on the island really. But if you're around she'll find you." Walking down to the course, he kicked at some of the old rubble left from who used the place last.

"Okay. You've got, hay bales, wood, and brick to build walls with. Pretty obvious which is strongest, but even with unlimited supplies, we've got limited time. You build, then head back to the observation deck and watch how you did. The princess just kinda... stand in the center. And does nothing useful really." He picked up a pebble, throwing it at the golem and getting not reaction.

"Just don't want to hear em scream in the middle of a Disney song. It's not exactly ideal to have in your memory before bed or work."

"Oh! Okay, cool." Heidi grinned. "Long as ya do your best, right?" Because that was all that mattered in the end. Didn't quite get things right? Well, there's always next time! So what if you don't specialize in just one thing? It meant you could do All The Things!

Thou doth haveth a strange view on life. Matilda chuckled. Heidi blinked and looked distracted from what Marcus was saying for a moment. This weapon thing was weird. Did everyone get a voice in their head like this? She almost missed the explanation about Eva and who she was because of her thoughts.

Oops.

Heidi shook her head, rubbing the back of her neck while following Marcus down to the course. Man, this thing had seen better days. Intense.

"So we're gonna do an ol' three little pigs thing and build houses out of straw, wood and brick?" Heidi thought she was being totally clever okay. She gave Marcus a thumbs up. "S'all good. I've built like..tree houses and forts and stuff with my friends! This'll be just like it, yeah?" Totally. Heidi tossed her scarf over her shoulder, tucked her necklace into her coat, and rolled up her sleeves. "Okay! Can we start now then or do we have to wait for some kind of signal?

Marcus wasn't sure to take her enthusiasm as patronizing or actually supposed to be encouraging. He just would assume it was supposed to be a good thing. Not every hunter had swallowed a cup of crap in the morning, (which reminded him that they needed to fix the coffee machine in the lounge).

"................It's nothing like a tree house or fort actually." He gave a shrug. It's more about creating a foundation, and then building up on it. After, reenforcing it. Tree houses you just make one of those cramped boxes that slightly have questionable structure." His experience however, had been one tree, and a few shitty planks of wood. The bad ideas of youth.

"Also the time already started so, let's get building shall we?" He smiled, getting to work.

Heidi couldn't help but raise a brow and give Marcus the 'you must be kidding' look. Cramped boxes? Questionable structures? Where did this guy grow up and why didn't they know how to make tree houses? "You've never seen one of my treehouses then. My brother and I? We made epic tree houses. They were like, totally awesome. We spent like two months making the tree house in our back yard." Heidi sounded proud of her achievement, following Marcus like a little blonde duckling.

She grinned back and gave a thumbs up when told it was time to get building.

This was a lot different from a treehouse, and with the tree house they could take their time. They hadn't constructed walls in a few minutes.

Needless to say Heidi wasn't exactly thrilled by her work.

Ye who brags, gets nothing but rags. Matilda spoke with a dramatically ominous tone. Heidi blinked.

"Does...should I be concerned about this voice in my head?"

"I live in New York City. Not a lot of trees to go and make a tree house in... Not a good one at any rate." He had made a few forts however. Box forts and been the construction of choice. "I'll take you word for what you built though. Show me what you've got going and we'll get rolling with the course."

As they finished their set up the question about voice had him snorting, and small smile playing on his lips. "Not unless they're trying to traumatize you. Your weapon more often then not tried to help you, but, sometimes they can be more or less difficult." He gave a shrug, tabbing the earcuff he wore. "My own weapon, Dis, is more or less the devil in disguise. Weapon or not, they're just like people in a lot of respects."
Sadly, the good and a lot of the bad for him.

Motioning her to follow him, Marcus led Heidi back to the station. "Here on it's pretty simple the timer hits zero and-" A wave of small shadow creatures poured out onto the island, looking to go devour the princess.

"Once they're all gone, we assess the damage and repair for the next wave." He watched as his walls were torn asunder. "It's a learning process."

"She's like...trying to be Shakespeare or something. She's really bad at it." Heidi looked up at Marcus' ear cuff, pushing her hair back away from her ear. "Oh cool! I have one too! Matilda's a um..."

Alas! That princess! We knew thee well! It is sad that there is not another..day...she will live to tell...

"I'm not quite...sure what she is. She's kind of hard to understand." She followed Marcus back to the safe place, watching the shadows suddenly appear and attack. Heidi gasped, a hand flying to her mouth and her eyes widening as she stepped back. Wh..what the?!

Princess Eva cried out as she was attacked, swatting at the shadows to get them away to little avail.

He laughed. Dis had his own manner of speech, but it certainly wasn't shakespear thank god. "Matilda then? Dis was pretty clear when I got him that he was a vampire. Could try to play 20 questions with her? I assume it's a her." Never knew with halloweeners really. Some were more or less ambiguous.

Going down to give the princess golems a once over he sighed. "Well that was pretty brutal. Oh-" He remembered her reaction, smiling just a bit. "They're not real. Think of them like dolls that can react to outside stimuli. They really are not human..." His own princess was grinning smiling like a dope.

"Not at all. Just build your wall back up and we'll go again." One wall got more than sturdy, while others sadly... Ehhhhh he'd done better.

"She just talks really weird. Like, rhymes and poems..but she's not very good at it."

I resent that, you brat! Matilda was pleased by how easily that rhymed. Heidi blinked. O..kaaaay..

She was reluctant to follow Marcus down there, frowning even as he gave his assurance. The golem girl she had kind of figured was a doll, because why would they put a real person through that? Her Princess Eva was fixing her crown and her hair with a small pout on her lips, also lamenting over the state of her pretty pink dress. Was the real Eva like this? Geeze. "What were those things that attacked them?" Heidi grabbed some bricks this time, taking more time to construct them than her wooden walls. She didn't want to mess this up.

When she was done she followed Marcus back up to the observation deck, looking warily down at the field where their walls and princesses stood. "This is all so weird..."

"Rhymes and poems... that would drive me up a wall. If she can find a word that rhymes with cumquat then I might be a bit impressed though. Shoving the last brick into place, he motioned for Heidi to follow him back to the observation deck, looking back only to shake his head at the princess golems currently breaking out into a rendition of 'Kiss the Girl'.

"One day they'll make it so the golems sing on key, but until then-" on the deck Marcus leaned forward by the glass, "-Those things that attack are called shadowlings. Weaker than minipets, but get enough of them and it becomes a pain, if not dangerous. You'll see them in the sun run too. If you ever go into towns or the jungle, they hang out there as well. All in all, just don't let yourself get swarmed and you'll be fine."

He watched as his walls were ripped apart, as well as the princess. ".... I think I'm off my game today."
