He was lost somewhere on the training grounds of Deus Ex Machina, but this wasn't the most important thing about Ian's day so far.
{ Are we going to go through this again? }
Nope, definitely the sudden voice in his head was the most important thing about Ian's day so far.
Patience, young grasshopper, he thought, holding the blade up to his eyes to inspect it closely, running a finger along the side of the metal. It felt cool against his skin, smooth and flat, and he twisted it around, admiring the golden gilt on the handle. It's been a while since I've held anything this valuable before.
Naomi sounded somewhat exasperated, but Ian thought he detected a note of pride in her voice as she said, { I'm glad you think so highly of me. Now get to work deciphering everything necessary about your division. }
Patience, Ian thought again, and Naomi snapped her thoughts shut abruptly, irritation flaring through Ian's mind.

Marcus tended to keep up with thye trainee files, mostly as he had very little to do as far as field work went. Playing meat shield, construction hand and nurse got slightly boring fairly quickly. At least with trainees, they were new faces, not to mention, they were the ones most at risk, both towards themselves... and others.
Post his own training, (more dagger throwing and hand to hand- he was improving), the sight of a face he knew he'd seen on file but couldn't pin a name to. "Hey." He waved at the man. "You're one of the new trainees right? You doing okay?" At the very least he could do, Marcus make sure he wasn't thinking about how to get a runic tattoo or something.

{ Are you going to train, or are you merely going to admire me some more? }
Relax. I just want to appreciate the moment. There's no rush, is there?
{ Perhaps not, but it is unwise to assume you have more time than you do. }
Ian smiled, in spite of himself, and spun the blade around, twisting it between his fingers. Minus the disgruntled sounding voice in his head, the weapon was a good one, a strong one, and he liked it very much.
A voice dragged him out of his thoughts. Ian turned around, still smiling brightly.
"No, I'm good, I just..."
There was a moment in which Ian trailed off, staring at man who had just come up to him with an expression of mingled confusion, surprise, and shock. It took him a second to gather his thoughts, Naomi quiet inside of his head.
"...Marcus?"

Dis was making a mental grin. His Marcus, rendering another man speechless. Howe proud was the vampire of his hunter. The hunter on the other hand, was just as confused and surprised, a tiny bit shocked as well. "Er, sorry?" He looked around, no one but him so- "Uh, I don't think we've met. Has someone told you about me or something. If it's about sending trainees to the infirmary for fun, that's a lie." Well, half a lie. It was usually an accident. Usually. "Can I help you though?"

It felt somewhat like a punch to the gut. Ian studied the man in front of him, trying to figure out if he was mistaken, if he had accidentally assumed something he shouldn't have, but -
- nope. There was no mistaking that tanned face and dark eyes, the same eyes which Ian had seen more than once in his lifetime. He shifted a little, giving a small cough, and then smiled slightly, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"No," he said. "Well, no one on the island, that is."
{ You're confusing him. }
He doesn't remember me - actually, I'm not even certain he knows me. Or of me, rather.
{ But you know of him? }
...yes.
"My name's Ian," he said, reaching a hand out towards the other. "I'm a new hunter on the island, in the Mist Division. And you're Marcus Hasan, aren't you?"

Dis was interested. Why was this one being so reactive? What had he heard- for the moon hunter, he just hoped Dis stopped being interested. Dis interested meant he'd pry and hound and be a brat. No one told him about him.. on the island? So from- "Sorry. It's been a while since I uh.. left." Fakeing one's death was an odd thing to say really. Taking the man's hand, Marcus tried to think back to if he'd seen Ian before. Neither name nor face were familiar but- "Yeah. Hasan. Um, have we met? Before Deus that is? It's been a few years so, memory might have gone a bit rusty. Oh, if you're mist tho Cass'll be happy to hear it! Er, she's my wife, mist hunter." The moon just kept trying to think how he might have know Ian, yet was drawing a blank. He seemed like someone he should know but... nothing. Not a single memory he could place.

He smiled a little, in spite of himself. "I'm still new, so no, we haven't met before. Not before Deus, either."
Not at all, but I still know you, Ian thought, though he was slightly distracted by the my wife comment, his brows raising upwards. "You're married? Wow, time certainly does fly, doesn't it?"
Marcus was looking confused now, without much of an attempt at hiding it, and Ian slid his hands into the pockets of his pants, his smile a little bit quieter, a little bit gentler.
"I haven't had the pleasure of meeting your wife," he said. And then, after a moment,
"But I have met your uncle...and your father."

Not before so how... Marcus didn't have a criminal record, he wasn't famous... some old rumor? He only had one ex and she was..special. So just how did this guy know him? Of him? "Yeah, just a few months back. I- what." The shock that ran across his face was obvious as day. His uncle- Marcus's father? The moon stood, face one of open confusion and disbelief. "Um.. are you sure? My dad- he left my mom when I was a baby I mean- I was told he died. Years ago." A fact his mother had stood bye his entire life. "You.. sure you've got the right guy? I mean, as far as I knew he didn't have family, none I was told about anyway."

The smile didn't fade from Ian's face, but there was a certain amount of gentle sadness to it, a little bit of reluctance evident as he shifted from one foot to the other as he debated on how to go about with this situation.
"I'm sure," he said. "You're Marcus Hasan, son of Marius Hasan. Your mother's name was Joanne. My father's name is Anmar Rahal-Nazari. He changed his name when he got married, taking her name instead of his own, which was Rahal-Nazari."
He took a slight breath, Naomi silent in his head as she listened.
"Before he married, his name was Anmar Hasan."

There was a drain of color as Marcus listened. It had been a long time since he'd heard his father's name. Longer still it felt like to just be reminded he did, technically, have a father. Opening and closing his mouth, Marcus shook his his head, blinking, trying to sort the sudden rush of feelings and emotions. "Are you sure I mean-s**t." Marcus wasn't sure what to say. Dis wasn't helping either. 'Ask if he's into kissing cousins'... the vampire never ceased to profoundly disgust him. "You're... positive? You my.. uh-" Cousin. "Cousin then? And my dad.. is..." Alive went unsaid.

"I'm sure," said Ian again, waiting for Marcus to catch up to the realization. It had been as much a surprise to him that he had a relative here, let alone one from that side of the family, but Marcus looked almost white.
"Positively positive." Ian rocked back on his heels a little. "Seen pictures of you and everything, not that that isn't creepy or anything. My mom showed them to me when I was growing up. I saw your dad once when I was a child, but it's been a while since we've heard from him."

The was a long stare and a deep held breath as Marcus looked to his apparent relative. Finally- "My mom told me he died after I was born. Went back to his family and then.. died. She never talked about him to me." He opened his mouth, trying to call up anything but- "She never even told me he had a brother." It stung. It stung more than it should have but it stung none the less. "Well... I guess... it's nice to uh, meet you. Maybe you can come over sometime, meet Cass. Talk. I didn't know anything about my dad. Much less his family. That I had any. It'd be, nice, to hear what it's been like for you." He rubbed the back of his head, feeling a bit awkward, a bit unsure, but mostly, confused. He'd never had a relative before. Not one that wasn't white. Not one that wasn't from the south where 'things were just different'. This was someone how might never have known his past, his history, anything about him yet here he was, not judging him, just sort of, talking to him. Granted it was oddly given the suddenness, but, he was family. And family wasn't something Marcus was ever sure he had to start with.
