Life Hunter
BATTLE ARENA

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

General Information
The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.

Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.

If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...

If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.

    Mechanics
    - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.

    - you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)

  • Round 1

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 1
    Trainee Roll: 1d10
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d12
    Hunter Roll: 1d12
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d20

  • Round 2

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 3
    Trainee Roll: 1d8
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d10
    Hunter Roll: 1d10
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d12

  • Round 3

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 4
    Trainee Roll: 1d6
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d8
    Hunter Roll: 1d8
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d10

  • Round 4

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 10
    Trainee Roll: 1d4
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d6
    Hunter Roll: 1d6

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

For once, Lex had absolutely nothing to do. No coffee runs, no studying, no minipet tank cleaning, and he wasn't even hungry enough to make a sandwich. So he was perched on a swivel chair, just sitting, staring at a blank computer screen. Regal was actually napping, somehow, so he didn't even have to deal with the griping Gryphon.

He just thought. Of home, of his father, of his old job. He thought of mixed drinks, and rum, and the occasional shot of pure vodka. He thought of his old dogs, his Ducati, the odd nights that he would actually go out gambling. He missed them slightly, but knew that he couldn't ever show his face in Vegas again. Too well known by too many people.

One day, when he got leave and the portals were actually open, he'd rescue that bike in the night. All black clothes and a facemask. He still remembered the code to the storage garage he kept it in. It would be his only trip to the city though; he'd have to choose other locales for his tastes. San Francisco had good bars, he'd been told.

His face was completely blank as he thought, a rare sight to most Hunters. It was disconcerting, actually. This man was always supposed to smile.

Wandering the halls used to be something Marcus had time to do. Now? Now he was up to his ears is work, and what free time he had was spent in training or giving training. The newer moons were showing up in smaller and smaller groups, and with their numbers on a fast decline, the senior hunters were being left to pick up the pieces. It was all very tiring.

Now he was on call for Jenga duty and to 'fix' a hole after that some sun hunter had made. Frankly speaking Marcus wondered why the suns didn't just have keepers. It would have solved a lot if issues.

On his way to the lower levels he didn't expect to see the trainee he'd had the pleasure waking up just... Doing jack s**t. It cheesed him slight, and Marcus barely held it from his tone. "Lex was it?" He waited at the entry. "Since you don't seem busy, why don't you come with me."

It was not a question.

Nearly lost in thought, Marcus was there to rescue him with a curt tone and a task. Lex smiled briefly, offering the Moon Hunter a little wave before getting out of his seat and shaking the man's hand, almost saying something along the lines of 'glad to see you alive', but remembering that Ami had told him not to do it under any circumstances. So, he just said what he could. "Morning, sir."

He could tell the Hunter was wiped, exhausted to the point of near death, it seemed. Whoops, bad analogy. An inward grin, and Lex was ready to go.

"Anything specific, sir?"

Marcus accepted the handshake all the same. At the very least Lex wasn't giving him lip or attempting to run just yet. Then again, he hadn't been told what he would be doing. "I'm not your senior. Not age wise. Call me sit when we're on mission or in a crisis. Marcus or Hasan will do just fine otherwise." Truthfully he preferred Marcus. Made things less tense.

Motioning for the man to follow, the hunter debated teasing but went against it. Too tired to deal with bullshit, and running after trainees was not on his list of activities. "What do you know of the runics Lex? About the clearance requirements?" Ease him into it, maybe he wouldn't jump at the lazier mounted fish.

Marcus - got it. Lex appreciated the familiarity that the name provided; all the "Sirs" and "Ma'am's" could get frustrating and dull thanks to the Life trainee being older than some of his senior officers, and put up a barrier between himself and the person he was addressing.

"I know that you have to go through a training course to check them out." He kept walking, chewing his bottom lip lightly. He was no idiot - he put two and two together very quickly. They were going to do one of said training courses.

"Marcus...we're going to do a training course, aren't we?" A slight sigh, a shake of the head. He would get suckered into this.

Smart guy. Faster than the others at least. "Well honestly I was sent to be on duty down there and repair a hole some sun hunter made. But hey, I am sure the other guy on duty could use a laugh or two." He smiled a bit. "So thank you for volunteering. Two birds one stone. You can get some training in and I don't have to try a repair a wall for a while."

Once at the end Marcus quickly checked it and gave the other hunter on duty the indication that it was time to play with trainees. His smile a bit subdued, he motioned to the doors that led to the life training course. "Be glad, next to moon this is the least harmful."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:54 pm

Lex's usual grin was a bit less happy, and his eyebrow was piqued to the level of suspicion. Only the second least harmful? Why was a course meant to train medical and lab staff even harmful at all? What were they going to be doing, mixing concoctions and hoping that something didn't just blow up in their face? Scalpel battles? Would he have to be injured and then stitch himself up?

Nope.

He had to play Jenga. Jenga? He supposed that it made sense - both medical and lab staff needed to be skilled in precision, delicacy, and caution. But what made Jenga painful?

"Alright, what's the catch to this? The Doctor wouldn't just have us play Jenga without some kind of consequence."

Marcus held back a small laugh. The other hunter on duty did not. Going to the stone table Marcus sat himself down, calm, waiting, blue eyes went to the hole in a nearby wall that occasionally the lasers would pass over. He'd have to fix that, and it would mean being in a boat over the water. Lovely. At the very least-

A deafining boom rang out from above scattering dust here and there. "Answer your question? If you win you find out why it's safer. If you lose well."

Marcus gave him a shrug. "Finding other newly woken trainees willing to make out with you might be a bit difficult for a while."

Lex only gave the Hunter on duty a skeptical look before sitting down, slightly surprised by the deafening boom. Of course, they were right under weapons testing. Why wouldn't they be? This would require more finesse than the Life trainee had originally thought.

"I'm pretty sure I could get your mother to make out with me if I tried hard enough." He'd played Jenga before - not Hunter Jenga, but regular Jenga. And one of the cardinal rules was to make the other person break their concentration.

It was on as he pulled an easy piece out, smirking. Your move, Marcus.

Marcus gave a light shrug. "Thinking back? Pass yourself off as doctor and she'd have gone down on you. However, your mother?" Marcus shook his head. "I want nothing to do with a woman who mothered H's spawn." He actually doubted that claim. The doctor hardly seemed the type to reproduce and not leave his young out in the world when they could have better use as test subjects.

Plus Lex didn't have that creepy stare that H had.

Lex only smirked as he took another piece out of the tower with relative ease. Marcus could talk crap on his mother all he wanted - Lex had no attachments. Bring up parentage didn't quite phase him either; he looked nothing like the Doctor; nor had he heard about the claims that H was his father in the first place. To Lex, it was all just smack talk.

"Pretty sure she'd want nothing to do with you either; she hates dead fish."

He snorted. "Dead fish is a new one." A boom went off and he scowled. Not helping his ever present headache. "Most make jabs about how I chase booty or, how well I know holes."

Tile half way out. "But as I've gotten from twitter, you're the one looking for holes and whores." Dis bristled at that one. Marcus didn't think badly of the women on the island, but it was a backhanded comment to be sure.

The taller man slid the last easy piece out, still grinning at the Moon. "Ah, not so much whores; I prefer ceviche, not fish tacos." He was slipping on the innuendo a little, possibly because he couldn't concentrate on Jenga and be clever.

Mama jokes weren't all that clever.

"Though from what I've heard, you're more of a sushi person."
