A new rank meant something Ami had wanted since day one. A place of her own, with nobody around her. A personal abode that nobody else could bother her, pester her- none of that. No trainees wheeling down the hallways on wheely chairs. No Dakota screaming about his "ladies" at any give time. No Otto banging on his drums at god awful hours.
Most importantly, space. For her library, all her clothes, all her belongings. It was going to be heaven, she knew it.
To achieve this slice of paradise, she needed an assistant. One that knew the village well, and was above the age of 18 (sorry Gale). Not to mention, a good friend. One that probably needed something to do since his loving fiancee was off somewhere else. Ami braced herself for a moping Marcus, and then knocked on the door.

Ami didn't get a moping Marcus, but a rather okay Marcus. "Ami?" Was the first question out of his mouth followed with, "Everything okay?" He motioned her to come inside, but then he didn't expect her to. He'd just gotten off Infirmary duty and still somewhat smelled like antiseptic.
He was pretty sure Lex was on Ami bedtime duty, and she might have come to yell about that, or she'd come to fret over him in her own way for whatever reason... Or maybe someone had broken the library.
Actually no she might have killed everyone then. "Don't usually expect you...." He paused. "I didn't upset you did I?"

Ami's expression flattened, eyes squinted up at him. "No," she said smoothly. "Is there something I should be upset at?"
She sighed and brushed her hand in front of her, as though brushing the matter out of the air. "Nevermind. We can talk about that later." Her tone very clearly implied that there would be a later. "I need your help."
Ami gestured down to her jacket, which was now a full hunter's coat. "As I've been promoted," she quickly brushed past the topic, "I need to move my things into a house because there is no way you can keep me in the god awful dormitories. Therefore, it would be helpful if you could point me in the direction of a good house." She hesitated, but then added, "With as few people around as possible. Apologies, but I don't want to be next door to the happy couple."

Maybe. He might have broken a book a while back. On accident. And gotten a stain on it. "No." Good lie. She'd bug him later if it bothered her. The request for help had Marcus leaning on his door frame, not sued to Ami of all people asking for help. Given the lack of nervousness, it wasn't emotional. Good and bad really. Looking to the jacket he grinned. "Congrats. I hope you celebrated." He gave her a look, saying if she hadn't he would help her celebrate. Probably by having a book club reading or something. She still needed to work on her social skills. "You need a house." He rubbed his chin. "Well that's a small problem. Once you get cleared, you're probably going to be spending time, a long time, on repairs. The problem with your request to be far from people is also a problem. Safety wise, you'll want to be close enough you can get help in case and can flee in the worst event. All in all, I can help you find a place, but it'll need some repairs and, going to the outskirts will bite you in the a**. Further away from the main you are, less easy it is." His arms crossed. "Sacrificing safety so you can be little miss lonesome isn't entirely viable."

Ami's eyebrows knitted in concentration as Marcus explained to her the problems with staying far away. Her mind logically worked around the situation though, as usual. Anything she could argue to get her "lonesome" house.
"I fixed my entire waterlogged room after the insanity attack by myself Marcus. I think I can handle a few house repairs." Was Ami a little proud of that? Ami was a little proud of that. "And I won't be alone. Kat is moving in with me."
She frowned further. "I don't care about the risks Marcus. If I worked this ******** hard I should be able to choose where I live."

Marcus's look was pretty much the 'Ami please' look he'd perfected just for her. It was pretty easily translated to 'Ami please listen to me and take just a tiny bit of my advice because really I'm not trying to upset you but you really do need to listen.' "One room isn't a house, and a pipe isn't an entire house's plumping system. You can handle a few- so can anyone. In theory you can build your own house but take it from someone who spent several months working daily to gut and fix his own house. This coming from a moon who wasn't ready to dish out over a month's pay for something he had to learn. Repairs take time. Good ones that will last and be easy to repair when they break down later for whatever reason. You can jerry-rig it, but here in the towns we're exposed to shadowlings and a myriad of other things. The further you are, the harder getting a solid repair job, if just for carting materials alone." Letting out a heavy sigh he stepped out and motioned for her to follow him. "I'll take you to the ones that in the best shape by the outskirts. Just... keep in mind that they are houses on the outskirts. They were never 'good' to start with." He wasn't stupid. If Ami had made up her mind, she'd made it up. Best he could do was tiny nudges.

A groan escaped her as Marcus went on and on and on and ON about the repairs she'd need to make. She knew that! Of course she knew that! Ami had thought this through a thousand times, she was just too stubborn to admit that there were flaws in her plan.
"That's what I asked you for in the first place," she muttered, shaking her head a little. "I don't care if they're not good. Nothing is worse than being a door away from that perverted hair-obsessed freak." A tiny shudder went down her spine as she thought of Feng with his hands in her hair. Ugh.
She moved out of the doorway and said, "Do you need time or can we leave now." Ami liked being more than prompt. She liked being punctual.

Tempted to flick her in the forehead, Marcus chose not to. She'd just hit him back or something. "Alright, but don't whine when your house gets attacked and I end up being called to do repairs." Grabbing his coat, Marcus motioned towards further down the rows of houses.
"And could have it worse. Try being in a room next to three men wanting to have sex." marcus shook his head. "A house is really, a blessing. But, let's go."

Ami cringed. She had no doubt some freaky stuff went down behind doors at Deus, but having it right next to you just sounded dreadful. Not just two but three people. Igh.
She moved out of the way and let Marcus lead. "Do you know who's available today? I was going to ask a few of the boys to help me lift things ..." Ami, even with hunter strength, was a well-established weakling. She could sort the boxes to have optimally distributed weight, but actually lifting the boxes was another problem entirely.

Marcus bit back his laugh. "Well, you can call up some moons, they'll probably charge a few fees. Could call u;p Dakota and write it off a moon request. Leon's life and so is Lex. Both are your subordinates so you can make them." He frowned. "If you call up Robert I'm gone though. Besides, he's more liable to break things."
Arriving at the furthest house not long after, it was easy to tell that no one really prioritized town for repairs. The furthest house was more two walls, a few poles, and a caved in roof.
"......Technically this is the furthest 'house'." He shrugged. ".....Would be a fun hobby to fix I guess but yeah."
"Yeahhhhhhhhh."

Ami's face fell flat at the "house." A roll of her eyes and she commented, "Marcus I didn't say the farthest house, I said as far as possible. As in what's feasible. Stop teasing me."
She wasn't takin' ur s**t Marcus.

He looked down at Ami, a small teasing smile barely on his lips. "You sure? With a little elbow grease it would be sort of like camping, only in a place full of things that will kill you the second lights go out." He gave a light ribbing and then held up his hands. He'd how her, just dont punch him or anything thing. It was a small walk back, about seven houses down before the first 'solid' building was intact, granted, the windows and part of a wall were in dire need of repair. "This is sort of the furthest possibly livable." Stepping to the door, it didn't budge. "I can kick it in to look inside or, we can move on. But from other houses further in, this one will likely need to be gutted and replaced, plumbing especially."

Ami's face was deadpan. No time for your jokes, Marcus.
"Just kick it in. I want to see it before I strike it out in pen," she urged him. A smirk crossed her face and she added, "Show me what you've learned as a big, strong moon-y."

There were always time for jokes Ami. Well, unless they were about to die, then it was just inappropriate. Kicking in the door with a loud slam, it gave way to a building that was more or less a wreck. Walls literally crumbling. Broken tiles, drooping ceiling.. it was in bad shape. "A lot of the houses are like this, if worse. ...probably need to reenforced the walls and roof too..." He mumbled. "Uh, well. Yeah." He shrugged. "You're the boss here."

Ami crinkled her nose in judgment of the house. She wanted to be far, but Ami wasn't crazy. Even she could be reasonable, and reason was telling her this house was a lost cause.
"Let's move on. It's not worth it." Maybe she was stubborn, but even she could admit she didn't have the abilities to fix this. "Impressive kick though. How have you been, by the way? Last time I saw you, you were sagging on a couch. I commend the improvement."
