It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it. - Eleanor Roosevelt
Civilian Life

Name: Lydia Ismene Sfakianos
Nickname: Lyd, Lyddie. Her father often calls her Lady, or plays on the word; his favorite nickname for her is Ladybird.
Age: 14 15 16 17 18 19
Birthday: May 1st
Sign: Taurus
Gemstone: Aventurine
Blood Type: O+
Fav. Food: Any dish that combines a number of ingredients and flavors, creating a unique presence. Lydia likes Chinese huo guo, Spanish paella, French bouillabaisse, and would go on listing if allowed. She has a particular fondness for seafood, and also loves tsatsiki, a traditional Greek yogurt and cucumber sauce.
Hated Food: Any kind of fast food, frozen dinners, and most kinds of takeout. Food that is mass-produced is not, in Lydia's opinion, food.
School: Destiny City University. Part of Crystal Academy's graduating class of 2014. Also works part-time as a waitress at Maize Maizier.
Hobbies:
When In Rome (Or Not): Faraway places and distant lands fascinate Lydia. She wants nothing more than to spend her adult life travelling all over the world. In the meantime, she is not content to let her life be unenriched just because she's stuck in Destiny City. She constantly cooks foreign foods, wears foreign clothes, and spends most of her free time reading up on the customs of different parts of the world. It's less the locations that interest her than the people that live there, and how they live their lives. Talking to non-DC natives is one of Lydia's favorite activities, and if allowed, she'll talk your ear off, asking if what she read on the internet is true and what you like most about your country. She tries her best to avoid being disrespectful or invasive with her questions, but her eagerness to learn more sometimes clouds her better judgement.
Country Of Origin: As part of her dream of travelling around the world, Lydia has taken to studying languages. She can ask for directions to the library or how much for dinner in most major languages, but whenever she tries to dig deeper, she gets distracted by the components of the words. Did you know that the word 'tragedy'is derived from Greek words meaning 'goat song'? Lydia does. Yes, she has every avaliable language of Rosetta Stone at home, but she spends a lot more time looking up the roots of words, and carries a pocket dictionary so she can look up unfamiliar ones before she forgets them.
You Are Cordially Invited: Lydia's parents don't like her to go out when they can avoid it. Half of the time, she fights this tooth and nail. The other half of the time she brings the public to her, hosting big themed dinners and parties. Most of these are heavily influenced by Lydia's cultural interests, and past parties have included an Oktoberfest party (with cider instead of beer and live polka music) and a Camões Day celebration (complete with readings of the national hero's poetry). These parties can be a little stressful for Lydia, since she's committed to making them as accurate and fun as possible, and the amount of effort she puts into them starts months in advance. But they allow her to share her interests with others and learn more about other cultures, so in her book, a little stress is worth it every time.
Shall We Dance?: Only one sport combines Lydia's love of different cultures, presentation, and flashy costumes: ballroom dancing. Yes, it is a sport, and Lydia won't let anyone tell her otherwise. What started as an attempt by her parents to improve her posture and balance turned into a passion as she delved into the world of dancesport. On the stage, the competition and intense physical workout make her feel really alive. When not competing, she loves the social nature of dance, and, of course, studies foreign dances whenever she gets the chance. Her favorite competition dance is rumba, but when not competing, she loves to salsa and merengue.
 Virtues:
I Believe I Can Fly: It doesn't matter that Lydia's never been outside of Destiny City, because she knows that she'll be great at travelling. It doesn't matter that she's far from mastering the Paso Doble, because she knows that she can do it. Lydia has the utmost confidence in herself and her abilities. Setbacks never set her back for long; she just takes them as a sign to work harder. Even when she fails, she knows that she has the potential for success, and that keeps her self-esteem soaring and her work ethic solid.
A Silver Lining In Every Cloud: Lydia believes in the best. She sees the glass as half full, and tomorrow's sunshine on a cloudy day. Do things always work out? In Lydia's opinion, they do, though maybe not in the expected way. She's quick to point out the good when others can only see bad, and does her best to encourage people when they're feeling down. Nothing, she insists, is as bad as it seems! And when all else fails, Lydia reminds people of the universal silver lining: no matter what happens, everything can be changed.
The Times, They Are A'Changing: Some people bemoan change. Lydia embraces it. While she has an appreciation for history and tradition, and believes that no amount of progress can erase the past, she loves uncharted terrain. A blank map is just an excuse to keep exploring, and new discoveries, even when they are confusing, are wonderous in Lydia's book. She is fearless where others are too busy adjusting to their surroundings, and quickly accepts new things without agonizing over them. This is a direct result of her cultural interests; when women halfway around the world used to burn themselves alive when their husbands died, other things seem downright normal by comparison.
Flaws:
I Can Do Anything (Better Than You): Lydia believes that she can do anything- even when that is not the case. If someone tells her that she can't do something, that's her cue to go out and try it, even if trying is a Really Bad Idea. No, she doesn't have a death wish, and no, she doesn't feel the need to be better than everyone. Rather, Lydia's self-confidence at such sky-high levels that she truly believes that she can do anything when she puts her mind to it, and if someone calls her on it, she's willing to put her belief to the test. This often involves risking life and limb, and is one reason her parents try to keep her caged, but in Lydia's mind, the day she stops trying to prove herself is the day she admits defeat. Because of this, it's incredibly easy to get Lydia to do things she would normally never even try, just by telling her that she can't.
Whatever Lola Wants: Ever since she can remember, Lydia has had her every material desire catered to. By now, she's become quite used to getting what she wants, when she wants it. Lydia doesn't realize how dependent she is on others until she assumes that they're there to catch her when she falls and get her water when she's thirsty. In the best cases, whoever she's relying on will tell her before it goes too far. In the worst cases, Lydia's whims turn into a fierce battle, where she refuses to be less stubborn than the person arguing with her. And that's assuming the fight is over something trivial; Lydia has difficulty taking care of herself, and when left alone, quickly falls apart.
Rose-Colored Glasses: Lydia believes that people are inherently good. She has also led a very sheltered life, spending it most of it living vicariously halfway around the world. These two factors combine to make Lydia utterly clueless in the street smarts department. If she met a strangely-garbed person at night, she'd be more likely to ask if they needed directions to a costume party than run away in panic. If you tell her that the gangs in town are only after candy, she'll believe you. It's not that she doesn't know that there are bad people, she just never really thinks that she'll meet them- even in a town filled with terrorists. Lydia wants to believe that all of the people she knows are good, and she's too busy with other things to notice when she's wrong.
Physical Features:
Hair: Royal Purple, fairly straight, and quite long; Lydia's hair hangs almost to her knees when it's loose. She usually wears it in a style she calls "infinity braids," which consists of a pair of braids that are looped twice on her head and tied with ribbon, with the rest hanging down almost to her waist. However, she's been known to experiment with other unusual styles.
Eyes: Bright Purple
Body: A bit on the short side, with a total lack of musculature. Lydia's lived the easy life, and it shows in her appearance. Her lack of height and other... assets, means that she is occasionally mistaken for someone younger, though her mature attitude tends to offset that. She has a number of tiny round scars along her left arm and leg, souvenirs from a particularly nasty youma, but they're difficult to notice unless you're staring at her limbs up close.
Style: Definitely unique, and best described as "Indiana Jones meets Every Country Ever," with a touch of Prep. Lydia tends to mix a fairly simple wardrobe- clean-cut blouses, flared skirts, cardigans or jackets, and the like- with a slew of clothing components from other countries. It's not uncommon for her to sling a poncho over a kimono, or to wear lederhosen with an Aran jumper. She has a few pieces of what she calls "explorer gear," khaki vests and the like, that she adds whenever she's feeling particularly adventurous. And of course she has a proper Indy fedora, to add just the right accent to any outfit needing some flair.

The only way to abolish war is to make peace heroic. - James Hinton
Sailor Senshi

Sailor Irene, Super Sailor Senshi of Peace
Henshin Call: Irene Asteroid Power, Make-Up!
Challenge: In the name of Irene, I'm here to keep the peace!
Symbol:
Sailor Scout Attack: Irene's Peaceful Offering! Sailor Irene conjures a spectral olive sapling, which is made of energy and not usable as cover. Everyone within a ten foot radius of the sapling receives a slight boost in speed and defense, but only as long as they do not attack. Passive actions and support abilities won't break the affects, but the moment the target attacks someone, physically or magically, the boosts disappear. Irene can only create one offering per battle, and can sustain it until everyone has broken the peace, or until five turns have passed, whichever comes first.
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Irene's Serene Sanction! Sailor Irene conjures a spectral olive tree, which is made of energy and not usable as a weapon or for cover. Everyone within a ten foot radius of the tree receives a slight boost in speed and defense, but only as long as they do not attack. Passive actions and support abilities won't break the affects, but the moment the target attacks someone, physically or magically, the boosts disappear. In addition, any damage inflicted by someone within range of the tree is also suffered by the attacker, at about a third of the original power. Irene can only create one tree per battle, and can sustain it for two turns after everyone has broken the peace, or five turns total, whichever comes first.
Eternal Sailor Scout Attack: Locked!
Irene the Asteroid: 14 Irene was discovered by J. R. Hind on May 19, 1851, and named after Eirene, a personification of peace in Greek mythology. She was one of the Horae, daughter of Zeus and Themis. The name was suggested by Sir John Herschel. Hind wrote, "You will readily discover that this name [...] has some relation to this event (the Great Industrial Exhibition) which is now filling our metropolis [London] with the talent of all civilised nations, with those of Peace, the productions of Art and Science, in which all mankind must feel an interest."
Hind suggested that the symbol for the asteroid should be "A dove carrying an olive-branch, with a star on its head", but an actual drawing of the symbol was never made before the use of graphical symbols to represent asteroids was dropped entirely. The fairly flat Irenian lightcurves indicate somewhat spherical proportions. There have been four reported stellar occultation events by Irene.
Irene in Mythology: Eirene (or Irene) was the goddess of peace (eirênê) and of the season of spring (eiar, eiarinos). Late spring was the usual campaign season in Greece when peace was most at risk. Eirene was one of three Horai, goddesses of the seasons and the keepers of the gates of heaven. Her sisters were Eunomia (Order or Good-Pasture) and Dike (Justice).
In classical art she usually appears in the company of her two sister Horai bearing the fruits of the seasons. Statues of the goddess represent her as a maiden holding the infant Ploutos (Wealth) in her arms. In this guise she was identified with Demeter and Tykhe.

True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice. - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sailor Asteroids
Guardian Cat *********>: The one who started this whole thing. ********* is full of surprises, but she's also really sweet and supportive- and extremely forgiving. I don't think I'd be able to handle this senshi thing without her or the team.
Eternal Sailor Iris/Ellie Spectre: The first senshi I ever met close up. Also my Captain, and now my Princess! Iris is kind of rough around the edges, and I don't always agree with her, but as a senshi I really admire her.
Super Sailor Metis/Lilith Calchas: Metis is so nice! I'm sad she graduated Crystal so soon after I met her; it's harder to keep in touch now.
Sailor Parthenope/Waylon Cartier: The exception to the "Asteroids are girls" rule? I don't really know what to think about him, and we don't really do things together much.
Super Sailor Chibi Hygiea/Ridley Pendergast: Ridley is so cute! I wish a little kid like her didn't have to fight, but she's actually better at it than I am.
Super Sailor Chibi Egeria/Felicity Harrow: Another kid! Thankfully there are only two on our team, and they can both look out for themselves.
Super Sailor Eunomia/Evelyn Caffrey: Eunomia's just so awesome. I mean, she's a great fighter like Iris is, but she's also really nice and caring. I love spending time with her!
Super Sailor Victoria/Feliks Vavrik: Another not-quite-girl? I don't know him very well yet, since he joined the team so late.
Super Sailor Psyche/Anemone Gray: !?!! I still don't know what to make of this development.

If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another. - Tenzin Gyatso
Family Tree
Coming when it is not 3AM why do I always set my journals up in the middle of the night?
Babbás: Iosif Aeneas Sfakianos, 41. A fairly well-known architect (starchitect?), and Executive Partner of Sfakianos Industries, started by his father. Has to travel a lot due to his work, which takes him all over the world- his travels initially inspired Lydia's interest in other cultures. The stricter of Lydia's parents, he always checks up on her, even when travelling. Doesn't like her to be on her own or in potentially harmful situations. Tends to spoil Lydia in an attempt to get her to calm down. Has a fairly large family, some of whom are stateside, some of whom still live in Greece. On bad terms with his in-laws, mainly due to their reluctance to accept financial aid from him.
Mana: Anya Isyanov-Sfakianos, 35. A former flight attendant who went back to school after getting married, getting her degree in (journalism? art therapy? something vaguely artistic, I think). Currently works as a (something that involves travel, but less than Iosif?). The less strict and more present of Lydia's parents, who's a constant voice of reason and encouragement in her life. A bit of a doormat when it comes to her often overbearing husband. Relationship with her family is a bit strained after her marriage, but existent- as opposed to her in-laws, who tend to ignore her.
Doula: Solimar Perez Quesada, 31. Lydia's nanny, who's helped take care of her since her mother went back to school full-time when Lydia was three. Lydia adores her, since she's not quite as strict as her parents, and also because of her attentive and caring nature. Solimar is very fond of Lydia as well, her affection a mixture of doting aunt and cool big sister. Now that Lydia's boarding at Crystal Academy, Solimar is working on getting her nursing diploma. The two exchange emails and phone calls frequently.
Skylos: Mariposa, 4. A Papillon and Lydia's confidante. Very even tempered and used to Lydia dressing her up and parading her around the house. Since Lydia moved into Crystal's dorms, Mariposa stays at home with Anya. Has dozens of nicknames depending on Lydia's mood and current country obsession, usually some variant on 'butterfly.'
Theia: Natasha Isyanov Weaver, 38. Anya's older sister. Even more calm and passive than Mana, but very responsible and full of a quiet strength that Lydia admires. Lives in Destiny City with her husband and daughter. Lydia is quite fond of her theia, but doesn't get to see her very often due to their husbands' bickering.
Theios: Alan Weaver, 42. Theia Natasha's husband. Every bit as strict as Babas, and even though they generally agree, the two butt heads fairly often, usually over money. It's mostly because of Theios Alan that the relationship between the Weavers and the Sfakianoses is strained- at least, that's what Lydia hears. She isn't sure she believes it, but is all the same a bit intimidated by her theios.
Ksádelfi: Yvette Weaver, 18. Theia Natasha's daughter, who was presumed dead and then presumed alive. The two played a lot when they were kids, but less so as they got older. After her "death" and subsequent revival, Lydia is at a loss with how to treat her ksádelfi, and their relationship is a bit awkward.

Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances. - Mahatma Gandhi
Interpersonal Relations
Sailor Senshi: Eternal Sailor Maia: I have to admit, she's really impressive. I hope I can be as strong as her one day! Cute Chibi (Sailor Chibi Columba): Forceful, for a novice. Eunomia's sister. How did I wind up in this mess? Sailor Thraen: He's got some great ideas! And he got me thinking about being more proactive, for which I am quite grateful. Eternal Sailor Kallichore: Yes, she's strong, but... why does everybody think that I'm helpless? Eternal Sailor Themis: I don't care if it was just in training, I beat an Eternal! That is just so cool! And he was really nice about it. Super Sailor Arsinoe: He beat me in the tournament, but since he won the whole thing, that means I'm pretty good to have held my own against him, right?
Knights: Shangri-La Page: He's pretty good! Didn't bat an eye at fighting me, and even though he won, I think we both learned a lot. Sessrumnir Squire: The things he said hurt a lot, but there was truth to them. I need to be more careful. Flashy Guy (Nysa Squire): It's not that I don't appreciate his help, but he didn't have to assume I needed it. And then he was just plain rude! Teal Knight (Nysa Page): He helped me with my inhaler during the ambush! I really want to thank him for what he did for me. Yellow Knight (Kailash Page): Iris wanted to introduce me to him, but we never really made it over there. I'd like to meet him properly one day. Kairatos Knight: I'm so glad that there are people like him, who can see the error of their ways and seek help!
Guardians: Sheena: [in progress]
Negaverse: Nickeline: I'm not sure what to think about her. It's complicated. ... Psyche? This is more complicated than I thought! Acanthite: We managed to talk without anyone getting hurt! She actually seemed really nice and caring, but the things she said kind of scared me. Mean Negaverser (Lieutenant Zippeite): He was so mean to me, but I kind of get where he was coming from. It's complicated. Titanlåvenite: Surprisingly honorable for a bad guy. Some of his views were truly scary, but I would like to speak with him again. Labyrinthite: A frightening individual. Why wasn't Iris able to help him?
Civilians: Cassidy Bresner: Cass is one of my friends from Knightside! We're almost exactly the same age too, which is really neat. What happened? Why did you shut me out like that? What did I do wrong? Dana Caffrey: Evelyn's sister. Not the most well-mannered girl ever, but I try not to judge. I'm keeping the fact that she's a senshi a secret. Howl Wickham: One of my coworkers at Maize Maizier. And a meanie. ... maybe not? [in progress] Penelope Seneca: Another girl at Crystal, who's trying to start a debate club. Not exactly my thing, but I hope she finds people who want to argue! Mythos' Owner (Ian Davis): A fellow dog-owner. [in progress] Waitress (Zia Connolly: A waitress at a pie place, and apparently someone who knows about senshi without being one. I really want to talk to her one of these days. Helpless Guy (Steven Bittre): [in progress]

Peace will come wherever it is sincerely invited. - Alice Walker
To-Do List
- finish journal setup - do family writeup - seek RP - repeat step 3 a lot
About Lydia/Irene:
A DC native (of the outskirts, at least), Lydia wants nothing more than to catch the first mode of transportation out. It's not the terrorists, but rather the fact that Destiny City is boring when compared to faraway lands like Istanbul and Madagascar. She spends most of her time researching for what she believes is her inevitable world tour, practicing ballroom dancing, and planning detailed theme parties. Despite her indirect interest in current events, she's rather clueless when it comes to how things in the world really work, preferring to think that everything will work out, and that she can do whatever she sets her mind to.
When she is awakened, Sailor Irene will be one of the Asteroids- insta team! She will also be horribly confused by the situation, and likely reluctant to do any fighting for a good while. Senshi who are willing to help her and Negas willing to take advantage of her uncertainty are more than welcome, post-awakening!
Current Events:
Lydia is in her freshman year at Crystal Academy, and still getting used to being in high school. She's dorming, which frankly isn't that different from living at home, except she's in closer proximity to kids her own age. The fact that many of Crystal's students are foreign is exciting, though, and she loves bumping into someone in the library only to discover that they're from someplace interesting.
Plot Ideas:
- Pre-existing relationships, again! Lydia's never left the DC area, so she probably knows a few people. She's always gone to private schools, and has taken dance lessons since she was seven, both of which could serve as jump-off points. But really, any pre-existing relationships would be loved. - School friends! Lydia is about average for a Crystal girl- she's used to the luxury that money allows, but doesn't lord it over other people. Friendships with like-minded people and brushes with those of different opinions? I'm also open to possible roommates. - The further away your place of birth is from Destiny City, the more Lydia will want to talk to you. Do want conversations with foreigners, ranging from polite to uncomfortably inquisitive. - Any ballroom dancers in DC? I'd love for Lydia to find a new partner at some point. Or maybe she takes classes at a studio that offers ballet and other types as well? Lots of possibilities here. - If Lydia comes to like you, expect to be invited to a fancy party. On hold until she meets people, since a party by herself would be boring. XD; - Anything else! It's easy to put Lydia in a situation she would otherwise avoid, just by challenging her. Don't like the above, or want your character to dare her to do something? Go for it!
And then, she thought of Psyche. Someone who had lost everything- sacrificed it for a cause she couldn't quite understand- but was still fighting. She thought of Kairatos, and of Vespa, and of Mister Alois. There were people finding their own paths all the time, who needed help seeing their way. And maybe she couldn't be the light at the end of their tunnel, the way that Iris was for so many. Maybe it was okay to just be a lamppost on the side of the road, seeing people past one spot on their journey.
