It was almost cruel.

There she was, preparing for her high school graduation. Much as Lydia had enjoyed her time at Crystal Academy, she was looking forward to moving on to bigger and better things. College, even if it was her hometown school, was waiting for her. Finally, she could have some say over what she studied. She could devote herself to her passion in a way that Crystal had never allowed her to.

And then she got the notice informing her that her petition for a Cultural Studies Club had been approved for the following year. The same petition she had presented since she was a freshman. True, by this point she'd managed to get more names and more interest, but that wasn't the point. Why couldn't they have allowed her to make the club while she was still a junior, or even a senior? Now that she had what she wanted, she wouldn't be around to see it take root.

Not that she would let that stop her from ensuring that it happened. After everything she'd gone through, all the effort she'd put in, Lydia was determined to see the club established, even if she wouldn't be there to guide it come the fall. Consulting her list of interested parties, she chose one name that stood out in her memory. When they'd last spoken on the matter, she had seemed interested. And according to her contact information, she too lived at the dorms.

It was simple enough to check the dorm directory and track down the room. Of course, there was no guarantee that anyone would be there. But Lydia had chosen her time carefully. She had come prepared. And, just in case it helped, she had her fingers crossed as she knocked on the door.

"Hello? Miss Failyn? Are you in?"

Finals were coming, and for the young junior named Failyn, it was high time to put her powered life on the side for the test. Not that junior finals were well...important, but should she fail the classes, her father would have her pulled from the prestigious school and she would lose her opportunity. Probably be forced to go to a public high school. Terrible.

Glasses were a bit skewed, hand hovering her study guide she had started to write when the knock on the door sounded, followed by a muffled voice. She set the pen down, going over to the door and opening it for whoever came to visit.

"Good evening, Yes, I am Failyn - How may I help you?"

Step One, find the right person: accomplished!

"Good evening, Miss Failyn. I hope I haven't come at a bad time. My name is Lydia- we spoke once or twice about the culture club, right? Do you have a few minutes?"

Her fingers were still crossed, though now they were behind her back as she stood up straighter and tried not to appear too excited. Even if this failed, there were other names on her list. Not many, but a few. Somehow, in some way, the club would survive.

But wouldn't it be wonderful if she had struck gold already?

Failyn blinked...."Culture club?" Oh...OH! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

"Forgive me Miss Lydia! Yes, sorry, I was caught up in finals studying. Please come in!" She opened the door wider, stepping to the side to let the girl in, closing the door only once Lydia was in.

"Would you like tea? I can set up some and some cookies if you like." She look at her messy desk...studying could resume later.

She went to her small kitchen area (which was really a small table with a tea kettle burner set up, underneath a small fridge and cabinent), and pulled out a jug of water to pour in the pot.

"Yes, we discussed setting up a club for those interested in studies of cultures, and since the school had none..." She looked over, "I'm taking it that your proposal was accepted? If so, I would love to be a member of club!"

Her momentary concern- could she have been forgotten already?- was quickly replaced with relief, accompanied by light laughter. "Please, don't apologize! It's good that you're studying. I'll try not to keep you from your work too long."

The room was lovely, if a bit cluttered in some areas, and Lydia looked around as she took a seat on the edge of the bed. "If it's not too much trouble, some tea would be lovely! Er, as long as it has no ginseng in it, or apple." It would probably be best to avoid the cookies entirely, just in case. Hopefully she could do so without appearing rude, and without going into detail; she hated discussing her health issues.

And there were much more interesting matters to talk about, anyway. "It has, in fact! The Student Affairs Office was going over proposals in anticipation of the coming year, and we finally had enough interest that they decided to accept it! So for the fall of 2014, the Cultural Studies Club will be officially on the roster!"

Saying it out loud just made it so much more real, and Lydia sat back for a moment, enjoying how that felt. Then she remembered the task at hand and shook her head. "There is a bit of a snag, however. You see, as of the fall, I'll no longer be a student here, and so I won't be able to manage things for the club." At least, not directly. It would take more than graduation to sever her ties entirely, after all of the work she had put in!

She set the teapot on the small flame, letting it heat. "No ginseng or apple! I have just the thing then..." She pulled out out two mellow vanilla tea bags and set it in the teacups. A small tray was filled with tea cookies, and whether Lydia took some or not, it was there. Half was presentation after all, the other half was common politeness from Failyn.

She wouldn't think it rude anyways if the girl didn't take any. She'd enjoy them for fuel before more studying.

She listened carefully to Lydia, pulling the kettle off the flame just as it started to whistle and pouring the water in the cups. Quietly she offered one to Lydia and then gestured to sit down together.

"Congratulations! I look very much forward to the next year then!" She nodded, sipping her tea. "Oh a snag? What....." then her eyes widened, "Well...another congratulations to you for graduating, but hmmmm....What does this mean for your new club? Odd of them to accept your proposal without someone to take over the club..." She reached over to snag a cookie and hum about it more. She might've been getting around to possibly volunteering for it, and wouldn't that be fun! But her gaze was entirely focused on Lydia.

"Thank you," Lydia replied, "and thank you again. Though I'm sure you can see this makes things somewhat difficult. It's hard to be excited about what's to come when I still have unfinished business to attend to." Once the tea was poured, she lifted the cup and sniffed it curiously. She couldn't quite place the scent, but it clearly wasn't fruity, and it smelled really good, so she took a sip. "Oh, that's nice!" Vanilla tea wasn't something she had ever tried before, but it was now on her list of things to have again.

Still, she couldn't let the tasty tea distract her. "To be honest, I don't think the Student Affairs Office even realizes that I'm graduating this year. I've submitted my proposal repeatedly, so I'm guessing they assumed I would do so again. And it would be a waste to let this opportunity slip by, don't you think? There's so much that the Cultural Studies Club could offer Crystal Academy! Like... like..."

Hm, that was an idea. Lydia folded her hands in her lap and looked over at Failyn. "Well, what would you do, if you had the chance to run a club event?"
