Columba adored being a senshi, she always would. The freedom the gangly preteen had when swing and bouncing and jumping across rooftops with all the easy of any superhero.

Even if she wasn't using it for anything particularly heroic.

She had a backpack over her shoulders and when she finally got to her target, she jumped down to a ledge she never would've been able to reach as a normal kid. And she instantly pulled a can of spraypaint out of her back and started defacing the wall.

She'd never really settled on what she was going to paint when she did these things, but being a senshi offered an elegant solution. The symbol on her hat, the dove in the circle, was a pretty decent logo. She liked it, it was hers. So she started using it.

"You are granted magical powers, capable of fighting the forces of evil, and you use them for graffiti? Seriously?"

Irene wasn't a big rooftop leaper. She tended to stick to the streets, especially when she was sneaking around on solo patrols that broke rules. Though for a change, she was actually behaving, and was on her way to meet Iris. She was also running a few minutes late. But when she'd felt another aura as she passed a building, something made her check it out. Her hunch was right on the money: chibi senshi at twelve o'clock. Columba's presence was not a surprise. Her accessories, on the other hand...

"Is the fact that you're a vandal also a secret from Evelyn, or does she know that this is what you sneak out to do?" Irene had planned on being nice, gentle, and understanding, but that was before she saw that her supposed protege was a juvenile delinquent.

Columba yelped and almost dropped her paint can, grabbing it and clutching it with both hands to her chest as she stared at Irene. And then frowned.

"I am an artist, not a vandal," She snorted. And then scrunched her lips from one side to the other. "And... no, Evie doesn't know."

She shrugged and resumed business. "She caught me once, but I powered down before she saw. Lemme guess, you're goodie two shoes blabbermouth like her."

Not quite convinced, Irene crossed her arms and took a few steps forward. "If you're an artist, stick to canvas. Or, if you must use walls, why not paint your own? These people have not requested your artistic services, and it is not your place to inflict your style on them."

Which didn't stop Columba from going back to what she'd been doing. Not that she was really expecting it to, but it was still frustrating to be summarily ignored. "I can't very well tell Evelyn about this without divulging other information I've promised not to. Which means that it falls to me to instruct you in her place." It was not something Irene was really looking forward to, considering Columba's less than cooperative attitude. But she'd made a promise to change things, and that change had to start with her.

"Oh my god," Columba let her arms go limp at her sides as she cast her eyes up to the stars in anguish at the lecturing.

"You sound somuch like Evie," She complained. "Are you going to ask me if I considered the owner's feelings now, too?"

She shifted her weight to pop out one hip and cross her arms. "Instruct my butt, this doesn't have anything to with bein' a senshi, it's just a plus because it makes certain places easier to get to is all."

"I'll take that as a compliment," Irene said, eyebrows raised. "Your sister has been a great help to me and a wonderful teammate. If I am at all like her, it is because she has set an excellent example. And yet, I have only known her for a year or so." It was probably more than that, but she wasn't in the mood to do mental math at that moment. "You have been with her for a significantly longer period of time. What's your excuse for failing to learn from her?"

And if she had to instruct Columba's butt, she would. "It has everything to do with being a senshi. We are portrayed in the media as terrorists. This means that the police see us as enemies, rather than allies. When a senshi performs a criminal act, that reflects on all of us, and makes us even more enemies." Why was she even bothering? It was so obvious that Columba wasn't listening, and she had a captain to meet.

"Look, I know you think this is easy, but..." Irene trailed off, looking around distractedly. Something felt wrong. "Lesson One: do you feel anything unusual right now?" The feeling was faint, and she hoped that she was wrong, but she probably wasn't.

Columba listened to Irene go on about her sister and ended up scrunching up her face until she resembled a wrinkled little troll. But she made no audible comment about it.

"Well I'm not a terrorist," She concluded, failing to see how the media could accuse her of anything. She hadn't done anything yet!

She ws shaking up her paint can, ready to go back to business when Irene mentioned feelings something weird and she stopped. She did, actually, a weird feeling at the pit of her stomach that went up her spine and made her hair stand on end.

"...Yeeeeah?" She questioned cautiously. It didn't feel good.

It was at times like these that Irene regretted her upbringing. She was too well-bred to roll her eyes at the things Columba was saying. But she really wanted to.

"No," she conceded. "You're just a vandal. And while I know you're not a terrorist, the public- oh, that doesn't matter right now!"

Not the smoothest change in topics, but the feeling was getting stronger, confirming Irene's hunch if Columba hadn't already.

"That bad feeling is an energy signature. Sort of like a personal aura. People with magic have them: senshi, knights, and so on. That's how I found you, by the way. Good people feel nice, bad people feel icky. The stronger the person, the stronger the feeling. Youma also have auras, a little different from the others. Judging from this particular aura, I'd say there's one very nearby."

Her instinct was to handle it herself, but she knew Columba would resent that. And who could blame her? Coddling wouldn't get either of them anywhere. If Columba didn't know how to fight, Irene wanted to know, so that they could do something constructive about it.

"So, why not show me what you can do?" Irene was nervous as she made the suggestion, but still felt it was the right thing to do. She would be there to help if anything went wrong, and would learn about what she was getting herself into.

"Oh. Ooooooh! That's what that was," Columba said with a nod so dramatic she had to grab on to her hat. She had a weird reaction to Chaonis' aura, even waving her hands through the air to try to make sense of the new sensory sensations.

'Let me see what you can do' was met with a less agreeable reaction, though.

Suddenly she had a winged letter in her hand, struggling to escape and fly away, and she just silently handed it to Irene while her smirk was pointed in the direction she distinctly sensed youma.

"Here, this is what I can do," She said with a sarcastic snort.

Because she was told to, Irene took the envelope. "Huh." And then, when she realized that she didn't know what it did, she panicked. "Is it going to explode? Is it some kind of anthrax thing? Or is it a nice effect, like my trees?" A bit of a non sequitur, but she was too confused herself to notice.

Maybe she needed to explain what she'd been asking, in case she hadn't been clear. "I don't want to fight you. I don't spar- ever. But if you're wandering around like this, without your sister knowing about it, I need to know that you can handle yourself against youma. Magic won't win the fight for you. Unless this thing really will explode," she added hastily, looking at the envelope that was trying to fly out of her hand. "So, what do you do when you come face to face with a monster?"

As if on cue, a crashing sound below them signaled the arrival of their opponent. Irene held the envelope at arm's length and looked at Columba, hoping this all wasn't a terrible mistake on her part.

"No, it doesn't explode, it is full of sparkles and it makes you feel fabulous," Columba snorted. As much as she tried to play it cool, her sneakers did move on the ledge, making her stance and body language obviously more defensive and ready to run.

"Point is my magic doesn't do nothing for fighting things," She elaborated, fists formed as she strained to look at whatever caused the crash down there.

"If yours does, ya might want to use it!" And that was before she charged head on at a fire escape to meet the crash and maybe let her fists make some youma acquaintance.

"Doesn't do anything," Irene corrected automatically. "Mine doesn't either, not really. I tend to keep it in reserve for emergencies." That wasn't entirely true; it was, theoretically, possible to gain a combat advantage with her magic, albeit a temporary one. In a situation like this, however, she felt it was best to save it. Just in case she needed to get them both out of a bad situation, and fast.

For the moment, she watched from their perch. Her limited experience with Columba had shown her that the younger senshi was... what? Other than mouthy and annoying, with a total lack of manners, she was quick on her feet. And... that was all she knew. Irene was suddenly scared that she'd gotten them both involved in something dangerous without knowing more. It seemed really reckless.

But then, Columba was being reckless anyway. At least this way, they could be reckless together.

Columba's shoes hit the ground and she stumbled a bit to recover before she looked around, trying to visually locate the youma in the crashing clutter of the alleyway.

"Well," She took a moment to dramatically inhale before shouting up to Irene, "Is you're gammartically Correct butt gonna come down here and punch it with me, then? Or ar'ya just gonna watch?"

Suddenly she caught a glimpse of what had to be youma body and she charge, hoping she wasn't going to end up fist first in some teeth.

Yes, this was definitely a bad idea.

"What is it with you and rear ends?" Irene asked, always managing to cut to the important issue. "I'll be here if you need me, but I lack the skill needed to watch you and fight simultaneously, so for the moment, I will remain here."

She wouldn't fight unless she had to. That was what she had promised herself. What she'd said was true, but she was also worried about losing control over herself, and accidentally hurting Columba. Though if Columba continued doing what she was doing, she'd get hurt regardless.

"Don't spread yourself out and hope to block it," she advised. "If you're lacking in height or weight, it often works better to focus all of your power at one point. Trip it, or knock it into a wall. Then you'll have the advantage."

It felt good to be on the teaching end of this for once, rather than the learning end. Of course, everything she knew about fighting she'd learned from Iris, or another one of her teammates, but it was still satisfying to be able to share her knowledge. It would be better still if Columba actually listened to it.
