Sailor Irene had mixed feelings about this competition. She didn't particularly enjoy fighting, and much preferred to play a supporting role in the war. But recent events had shown her that she had to be able to protect herself, at least, and her skills in that area were laughable. So this was really an excellent opportunity, to fight without having to worry about getting hurt. To learn from more experienced fighters, and watch their bouts. It was ideal.
Still, she probably wouldn't have participated if Iris hadn't made her.
And now she was matched up against someone much stronger than her, right off the bat. Irene looked at her opponent with a mixture of admiration and anxiety. "It's nice to meet you," she said before beginning. Even if this was a competition, that was no reason not to be cordial. "I hope to learn a great deal from this fight!"
Then she started in. Her ornaments swung as she moved, one dangling off the bow on her chest, the other tied to the back of her collar. When she got within striking distance, she dropped low and kicked out in an attempt to put her opponent off his balance.

Themis had to admit he'd been a little shocked to see he'd been matched up with a basic senshi, and on some level he had to admit he was a little worried - what if he accidentally hurt Irene ? He certainly didn't want to !
But eventually, he came to see it as training. He could give her tips, and she'd come out of it stronger. He had to see it this way, really.
"It's indeed nice to meet you, Irene." He said with a smile, clearly not one of the most 'competitive' challenger in the competition, more into it for fun and to keep himself from going too rusty rather than to win.
"I'll try to give you pointers, okay ?" One of his ornaments dangled from his tie, the other - perhaps teasingly - dangling from the 'feather' of one huge wingbow.
He was able to more or less avoid being knocked off his feet. "That's a nice one... Usually you want to aim a little lower, through - if you hit there, your opponent might not be tossed off-balance." As he'd just demonstrated, really, but he waited until she was up again before doing a jab at her shoulder, more looking to test her reaction time than anything else.

It was reflex, really - Themis went to help her up, and instead got caught in her grasp - certainly enough to surprise him. "Nice !" He complimented her. Really, sometime throwing someone off their game was just what you needed to do to gain an edge - the way one used that edge, well, was up to the senshi themselves.
The grasp threw him off-balance, but experience made it so he didn't tumble down, caught himself before he could, and managed to step out of grapping range, aiming to kick at her side but miscalculating.
If she was quick minded, Themis was now wide open for a nice hit.

Irene felt, rather than saw, the ornament come off of her collar. She heard it smash against the ground. But her eyes stayed on her opponent. Her slip-up stung, but she was determined not to let it distract her from her goal. Her opponent was older, stronger, and much more experienced, but she had a chance now. They were tied, one ornament apiece.
For a moment, Irene pictured herself winning. She could see the older senshi respect her. She could see ********* praising her. She could even see Iris respecting her. Then the images were gone, and the ornament on Themis' tie appeared in her mind's eye. She spun around, ducking down low again. Hopefully he would think she was trying for another attack at his legs. Instead, she sprung up at the last moment, catching his tie in her fingers. Before she knew it, she could hear another tinkling sound as his last ornament hit the ground.
She won?
She won!
Irene backed up instinctively, a bit afraid. Would things go the way she pictured? Maybe the other senshi would be mad. Maybe she would be accused of cheating. But even though those fears nagged at her, she couldn't help but jump around a bit. She really did it, all on her own! She won, she won!
