Hobbies: Games - While Vanya has a soft spot in her heart for horror or first-person shooter games on many multimedia platforms, she lacks for systems to play them on. Instead, she is prone to playing chess against herself or anyone who's willing to play with her--she picks up most new games easily, and can generally play with some level of skill. The only sort of game she
doesn't get some enjoyment from is card games, because they usually involve some element of bluffing and Vanya is absolutely terrible at that.
Gardening - Vanya has a vested interest in gardening; she remembers the uncultivated mess of her Wonder, and wants to see if she can improve on it. Mostly, her knowledge is massively theoretical, as her gardening space is literally a single pot on her desk and maybe a window box. She can tell you just about anything you want to know about how to grow flowers and herbs, though her interest in actual edible plants seems to be nowhere near as strong as in growing roses or tulips.
Foreign languages - Vanya really enjoys learning foreign languages, but is often too impatient to actually study them and gain any kind of fluency (beyond pidgin greetings and introductions) without a direct connection between
learning the language and
praise. However, she's got a good memory and enjoys puzzling things out, so she tends to collect foreign language-to-English dictionaries and piece together translations of web pages she finds online, for no good reason. (Well, it makes her happy. Is that a good reason?)
Virtues: Observant - Vanya is one of those people who can take one sweeping look around a room and remember a lot of silly details without really working at it. Not, like, the number of buttons on your cardigan, but she's going to notice if you look tired, the general state of your clothes... stacks of papers on your desk... and from that, she'll draw a general conclusion about you that will color the rest of her interactions with you. She notices tics and themes in how a person dresses pretty quickly. It's usually correct, but not always; Vanya's certainly fallible. A dirty or rumpled appearance doesn't always make you stupid and/or a hobo, after all, no matter what she's observed. A particular downfall is that, after she looks once, she won't look again unless there's a HUGE change.
Responsible - Vanya doesn't remember her civilian life all that well, but she knows it can't have been very nice because what she does remember seems very uncertain. Because of that, she wants to make sure everything in her life is as stable as possible! She will go to great lengths to assure she gets things done on time. She budgets, she makes to-do lists, she cuts coupons, and she pinches pennies. Her work is done neatly, it is done promptly, and when she has a bit of extra time it is done with panache, because she takes pride in her work and wants others to be proud of her and admire her in return.
Tenacious - Vanya sees everything she starts through to the end. She is quite capable of smothering fear, common sense, and her better nature in order to continue on a path she's chosen in the proper order. She's prone to continuing arguments she's lost, and bringing up old arguments again and again and again, but she'll also give up sleep and social time to get something done by the deadline if she has to. Her dedication is endless, even to things she's particularly not interested in doing, and she applies herself to everything she is asked to.
Flaws: Needy - Vanya needs attention and positive reinforcement. She wants to be liked and to be admired, and will go out of her way to make sure these things happen. The negative effects of this are myriad; Vanya is prone to lying to secure someone's interest in her, prone to saying 'yes' to projects she really doesn't have time for, prone to doing things that she hates or that make her uncomfortable just to earn a smile from someone she admires. While she doesn't always believe her actions are defensible to others, she is quite firm in her belief that the ends justify the means. As long as she's loved, liked, and admired, she isn't particularly concerned with how she got there.
Prudeish - Vanya is extremely uncomfortable around anyone who doesn't conduct themselves as she feels is appropriate and proper in public. She really doesn't like it when people discuss her life or relationships in front of others, and she hates even more when she's the subject of some innuendo or joke, and she hates being subjected to anything possibly considered a public display of affection the most. While she will go along with things in order to please the people around her, she gets reticent, embarrassed, and
extremely unhappy. She won't bring it up right there, but later on she'll definitely make her displeasure known by giving the person who embarrassed her the cold shoulder until such a time as they apologize.
Impatient - Vanya likes to see results, and as long as she's seeing results, she is a dedicated, useful person to know. However, the second things start taking a little more time than she expects, she gets frustrated, peevish, and extremely short with people. She doesn't really have a concept of just
who it is appropriate to take her frustration out on, so it tends to just go everywhere. Vanya is a woman without that many useful coping mechanisms, so when things get rough for her, she tends to unload her negative emotions over whoever is nearest.
