It wasn't that she'd been stalking the girl. Or that she'd been... okay, yes, she'd been stalking, but it was just to make sure Lianna Beauchamps really was a suitable fit for the Negaverse. She knew that she'd been speaking to some lower-ranking officers and that was great, but that didn't always guarantee that she'd be a good fit for the company... such as... the guerilla military order could be a company. Okay, that metaphor had actually fallen apart long before it got anywhere near done, so, like, Avalon was going to drop it. The point was, she'd decided Lianna was a spoiled little brat, but she had money and influence, which was more than Avalon could lay claim to as a civilian--well, the influence, anyway, Avalon had gotten downright criminally good at stealing from ATMs and, like, you mug enough people in the right part of town and ANYWAY. The point actually was that Lianna Beauchamps was a steal for the Negaverse, she already considered the Negaverse friendly (...sort of) and it was always useful to have horrendous wads of cash lying around for if you needed to put a bounty on the head of your ex-best friend. That was an extremely specific situation and no Avalon was not sorry for bringing it up. It was an important situation. Babylon had influence with knights. Right? Right. She had good reasoning. So she'd picked a night, and decided, hey, this was as good a time as any for a villainous ultimatum. Somehow she didn't think she'd have much trouble with convincing Lianna to join her side of the war. "What's up," she said, stepping neatly into the blue-haired girl's path. "Let's have a little chat, shall we?"

Lianna was blissfully ignorant of the battle that was being waged in the city, though she was very familiar with a lot of the consequences that the war brought with it. The random incidences of destruction, random missing people... But beyond that knowledge she was ... sheltered. Far away from the battles and bloodshed. That was all going to change tonight.
Little had she known that many of the people she had met recently had been a part of the war. That they were investigating her for potential usefulness as part of their side. That they were recruiting her...
It was a rare night in which she wasn't studying, and didn't feel like going to a club...She simply felt the need to get out of her apartment and walk. It was a balmy night, so she left her coat and cellphone home. She walked randomly for hours it seemed. Until she felt eyes on her...
She was nervous. Who was watching her? What did they want from her? Why the hell did she leave her phone home? She would never make that mistake again... if she got out of this alive. It felt like something out of a horror movie or something.
And then she stepped out of the alleyway and into the light. There was something familiar about her. She knew her from somewhere...
'Let's have a chat, shall we?'
As if that didn't sound ominous... But still, there was that nagging sense of familiarity. That she knew her, somehow. That she was able to be trusted, at least on some level.... Lianna took one step closer. 'Who are you? And what do we need to chat about?'

"My name is General Avalon," she said, taking Lianna by the arm and guiding her out of the safety of the streetlights. "And I'm going to make you a very special offer. One could almost say it's… life-changing." As in, if she said no, Avalon was going to rip out her starseed and make a very pretty youma out of her. To make sure it would happen, Avalon summoned Shay to her. The warped and twisted figure of the girl, a favorite youma of Avalon's, appeared in the mouth of the alleyway, effectively blocking all escape. "Tell me, Lianna Beauchamps. What do you know about sailor senshi?"

General implied military, and Lianna was pretty sure she didn't know anyone in any branch of the armed services... at least none who were that highly ranked and that young. There were the few aquaintances of her grandparents that she remembered slightly from formal functions that took place over a decade ago... And the name Avalon. First or last, it was unknown to her. Surely she would remember if she knew someone with such an uncommon name.
'How do you know my name?'
She was confused. This person was familiar, like someone she knew and should be able to name but there was something... Perhaps the threat that was implied in her words as well as her actions.Instead of setting her at ease in any way shape or form, this was very definitely starting to take on the menacing quality of a horror film. And she was the idiot female character who would die a grisly death...
The hand on her arm gripped like a vice, and Lianna just knew that if she survived she would have a really colorful hand imprint on her upper arm. This didn't bother her. Pain and bruises were nothing new... Then the creature materialised out of the shadows. Something twisted, out of a nightmare... If she had been the type to be prone to hysterics and such, it was at that moment she would have screamed.
But she wasn't, and though it was creepy as all hell, and the situation itself was threatening, there wasn't any need to scream or get hysterical. In fact, she started to relax her body (there was less chance of injury that way, if she seemed cooperative), and her senses sharpened. She started to feel... alive, if that made any sense whatsoever.
'You can release my arm. You have my attention, and I'm not going to be going anywhere.' At least not yet, not if what she had to say was worthwhile.
She then realised what the words spoken to her were. A life-changing offer? It was intriguing on some level. She was compleetely bored with the life she had been living. Day in and day out, her routine was always the same. School and managing the estate, studying, clubbing and the meaningless sex. Something needed to give, and if what this Avalon had to offer alerted her life in any way... offered adventure or purpose, or just something different, she wasn't likely to turn the opportunity down.
'Sailor...senshi? I have never heard of such ...things... people whatever. What are they? And what do they have to do with anything?'

"They're monsters," said Avalon, letting go of Lianna's arm. A smart girl. Sensible. If Lianna had tried to run, Avalon definitely would've killed her, because there was really no need for another Lieutenant who required coddling to meet the Negaverse's standards. Not that Avalon knew of many, but it wasn't like it was hard to do as one was told. She did it, after all, whenever a General-King seemed inclined to pay attention to her. She met her quotas and she sought to strike down the senshi where-ever she could, and that was really all anyone could ask for. "Gangsters. The full story is ridiculous, so let's move on. What if I told you… that you had it in you to become someone who could do… whatever they wanted? Even turn people into that?" She pointed to Shay, lurking in the mouth of the alley. The youma's mouth hung open, exposing sharp teeth, and when it breathed it sounded like a sob. "Have you ever wanted to be able to move faster than the human eye can follow? Be strong enough to lift a car?" Avalon smiled, and she traced a slow circle around Lianna. "I can do that for you, Lianna. I can make you strong, and proud, and beautiful. Or… you can die here, in this godforsaken alley. And then you will be just like Shay, a mindless monster fit only to follow my commands."

It was a good thing she did not know what was going on in the other woman's head. Such condescension would have pricked at her pride, and forced her to retaliate with some ill-advised remarks of her own. As it was, something about the way she spoke was enough to raise her hackles and make her want to prove herself, which could either be a good thing... or not.
'Monsters? Like that thing over there?' She gestured to Shay, that still looked like it might eat her at any given moment. 'Or do you mean human, without conscience or soul? Even if the story is ridiculous, I should like to know all the facts before accepting or declining your offer.'
It was simply common sense to her, to know as much about anything before committing. She had been born with it, or perhaps the skill came from her experience with the family lawyers and running the estate for the past three years.
The youma was still quite... disgusting in her opinion, and she wanted to get far away from the creature, but apparently it was there for a purpose, so she would do her best to ignore it. Though it was hard when Avalon specifically drew her eyes to it.
It had been a person once, but was turn into that by someone - was it Avalon? And she could have it in her to do the same? There were definitely a few people she knew of, of whom being turned into a thing like that would be a vast improvement - both appearance and personality-wise.
Power. She was being offered a power that was almost beyond comprehension. But if there was one thing about Lianna, it was that she craved power beyond almost anything. Her grey eyes became distant for a few seconds as she thought of what she could do with such power and abilities...
'Or... you can die here, in this godforsaken alley. And then you will be just like Shay, a mindless monster fit only to follow my commands.'
Lianna tossed her head proudly, as if she would die here. And more... as if she would become a monster like that ...thing, and be servile to anyone. And with five little words, she sealed her fate.
'I will accept your offer.'

"Senshi are less than human, without conscience or soul," said Avalon. "They look human. They live in human bodies and believe they've lived human lives. But they've stolen their bodies… like pod people." She tapped her chin, slanted a glance over at Shay. "It's because of the senshi that poor dear Shay is the way she is. Her brother just… snapped. And there she is." Corrupted. It would be almost poignant. She gifted the girl before her with a smile: cold, sharp-edged, one that didn't reach Avalon's eyes. "This will hurt you," she warned, but by then she'd already slipped her hand through the immaterial blockade of Lianna's sternum and curled her gloved fingers around Lianna's starseed. All it needed was a little push of the Chaotic power that Avalon could wield and then, the delicious rush of corruption. But not for Lianna. Avalon could remember very well what it felt like to corrupt, how the blood froze in her veins and she was cold, so cold. That was why doing this was so fun. She removed her hand from the new Lieutenant's chest, crossed her arms, and said, "So what's your new name, Lieutenant?"

That was interesting...pod people? Like the movie? That would be both interesting and horrifying, really. But there had to be more to that story than Avalon was saying, though for now it was enough. She could always find out more to the story later.
She barely had time to glimpse the cold smile, and she didn't even have time to register the words before there was a hand in her chest, wrapping around her heart. The pain was excruciating. Her knees nearly buckled, and hers eyes watered. But she didn't scream, or collapse, or black out.
Her blood froze in her veins, the air in her lungs became heavy, unbreathable. She danced along that fine line between life and death. Just the slightest wrong move, and she might not make it. It might have been hours or days worth of suffering, or it may have been seconds. There was just no way of telling. But she survived.
After the pain subsided, and the hand left her chest, her heart was back in it's place. She could feel the chaos running through her veins. She felt more alive than she had for a long time.
'My name is Empressite.'

"A pleasure to meet you, Empressite," said Avalon. God, corrupting someone did take it out of you, didn't it? She ran a hand down her face and then blinked back a yawn. "You've got all your memories? Good. My name's Avalon--I'm a General. With the Negaverse. And you are a Lieutenant. This means… I'm your boss." Well, that was what it meant. Basically. She was kind of simplifying it down, a bit. What the hell did you even do with a new Lieutenant? Avalon had to smother another yawn, but when it passed, she had thought of something. "I can show you how to drain energy now," she said, "or, you can take a night to run around the city and learn about all the things you can do now. I recommend trying to jump up a building, personally, it's a lot of fun." It was more fun when you included teleportation. Which reminded her. She dismissed her youma companion. "You've joined the front lines of the war against the senshi," she said. "There's a primer available through this." She pulled out a violet communications crystal, the twin of her own. "Any questions?"

Her head may be spinning, and her memories a little bit fuzzy --- she almost died there... or at least she flirted with death and came out the other side. Alive. And she felt more alive than ever. It wasn't even anything big or spectacular. It was little things. Like she had good vision, but that first time one put on glasses and were able to really see... it was almost like that. She did remember the key things clearly. She knew her name - well, the name of her first life and her new one, her address, who she was and what day it was.
It was almost like being born again, and the world seemed filled with potential and possibilities. Blue grey eyes took in the moment of weakness and tiredness of the other - Avalon- without really seeing it. It was a fact her brain filed away for later use, once she wasn't being bombarded by so many new things, and all the new stimuli...
'Ma'am,' she answered reflexively, not even really hearing much of what was being said. Other than a few facts that were key at the moment. Avalon was a superior. She herself was now a part of something called the Negaverse, she was now involved in a war against a faction(?) of people (?) called senshi.... There were just so many new things being introduced...
Then she was being handed a violet crystal. And she was being asked if she had any questions - which was in a way a rather stupid question to ask - but her mind was so full, and there was so much she wanted to know.
But the first thing that popped out of her mouth was 'What is this thing and what do I do with it?' Ok, so perhaps not the best question, but it was a good place to start.
