Ladon left the party and was quickly walking away, trying to get as much distance from him and the Fondue Haus as quickly as possible. He didn’t NEED to be at the Singles party and there was no point in him staying. He didn’t even want to be there in the first place, and everyone else seemed to be having a gay old time without him. Frankly, he would rather stay at home and do nothing than having to dress up and be someone’s unneeded add-on. This someone in question was Tate. His supposed friend.

Really, he should have expected it. He barely knew her. For all he knew, she was just showing her true colors. Well, he really didn’t like that hue of pink that was ALWAYS on her little face, and he didn’t like how it looked like she had friends waiting for her. It was one thing to go to a place you didn’t want to go, but what use was he there for other than just meeting her at the door? She should have at least warned him, or maybe she should have asked one of the MANY friends she had to take her instead of him.

Well he could care less about all of it. Let her have the time of her life tonight. He was going home!

She'd emerged from the restroom just in time to see Ladon leave, the proverbial storm cloud boiling over his head. And--without even thinking 'let it go'--she followed, leaving her coat behind, not really pausing to think things through as she used her height and her--anger--to catch up to him and lock her fingers around his arm.

"Where are you going," asked Tate, and it probably came out so much harsher than she'd meant it to. "Ladon, what happened?"

Had it been something with that little redheaded whore had said? She gritted her teeth, tried not too look too confused and furious.

He could hear her heels clacking swiftly behind him, and he picked up his pace even more, eyes to the sidewalk as he stormed ahead, brow furrowed. The sound only got louder. Her stupid heels. He hated that noise, and he decided he’d put that on the long list of things he hated about tonight that was quickly formulating in his head. Green-haired boys. The waltz. High heeled shoes. The noise made him grit his teeth, and his polished dress shoes tapped in time with hers, the pair moving faster and faster down the sidewalk before he felt her slender, long fingers wrap around his arm. Immediately, he stopped but didn’t turn around.

“I’m going home!” The tone of ‘I’m not fine’ was clear in voice and he tugged at his arm for him to free him. “I told you I didn’t want to be here. Go back to the party and have fun without me.” He made to move again, but she gripped him in place, but he refused to touch her hand to pull his arm free.

...Who had been having fun?

Tate wasn't holding onto him tightly enough to hurt him. He wasn't familiar enough for her to want to do things like that; she almost never touched Giselle at all, in fact, but for occasions where their hands just barely brushed. A pat on the shoulder was like tackling someone and hugging them for the two girls; the slap when she'd returned had been a freak happening.

That said, her grip tightened when he told her to go back to the party. "What made you think I wanted to be there," she said. Despite the phrasing, it wasn't a question; the temperature of her voice was quickly dropping from "cool" to "subzero".

What had she done wrong? She didn't know, but it had started when she'd gone to head off any uncomfortable questions from Howl, when he'd gone off to get a drink and never come back and he was talking to that tart.

"What are you talking about," she asked, and this time it was a question, one she desperately wanted the answer to.

Ladon was of the same habit of not touching, and when she squeezed his arm, he felt like he was being attacked. Why was she hurting him?! “Stop it. That hurts Tate.” He shoved his hand free and broke off, stepping away form her before turning around, His wide, olive eyes narrowed down as he stuck out his tiny chin to look up at her.

“Well you certainly didn’t look like you were having a bad time! If you wanted to flirt, then you should have told me instead of making me the third wheel. At least bring one of your other friends. You seem to have a lot. I told you I didn’t want to go, but since you said you needed me, I thought I’d help out. If I’m not needed, then I see no point in just hanging around and watching you twirl around with kelp-head!”

Really, it was disgusting having to watch Tate flirt and giggle and blush over every little thing. If she wanted to hook up at a Singles party, then leave him out of it. They were suppose to be SINGLE here. What was so bad about being single?!
PostPosted: Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:12 pm

She stared at her hand like it had betrayed her as he talked, then directed her gaze back to his face. "I hate flirting," snapped Tate, "for one, and for two, I wasn't flirting, and I only went over there because I'd said something stupid and I was hoping--"

There was no question as to who 'kelp-head' was; she had never thought of his hair as that particular color, but it was true enough. Later on, she would find this amusing. Right now she was wearing down her teeth, bringing her hands up to press them to her temples. "--and I was going to see if he'd forgotten it. You're the one who stomped off and left me!"

Things Tate's pride would not allow her to admit: one, that she had needed Ladon, or she wouldn't have asked him to come, and two, that she had only danced with Howl to get her friend's attention back. What had he wanted her to do? Just let him leave when she didn't really want to know anyone else at the party and Howl had embarrassed her, which was one thing she could never bear, and holy god she wouldn't even compare the green-haired boy to Ladon in terms of who she was fonder of...

"I don't leave people," she asserted.

Her explanation sounded weak at best, and he crossed his arms about his chest to show her he wasn’t buying it. It was becoming harder and harder to not just roll his eyes at every word she said, and he instead continued to watch her with unbelieving eyes and made little noises as if he was about to say something to each thing she said, but was going to let her go anyways with her excuse.

“Like I believe that! You were laughing and blushing the moment you saw him – oh, I mean RAN to him and dragged me with you! I could even hear you two laughing from across the room. Now don’t tell me that you didn’t enjoy that!” She had been nothing but girly laughs and flustered expressions that it made him want to vomit on the pavement just remembering it. It was a good thing that he didn’t eat anything since lunch, which really didn’t help his mood. He didn’t even stay for fondue.

“I left to get a drink because you two seemed to be off on your own little world! Then by the time I turned around, he was carting you away on the dance floor. " His voice was raising louder and louder, tired and exasperated with her already. "For an misunderstanding, it didn’t look like you were just clearing things up.” That and kelp-head was acting like a knight, kissing her hand and being OH SO suave. Way to make the rest of the guys at the party look bad.

“What point was there in staying when you seemed to have found your own posse?!” He felt like an outsider.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:42 pm

"You're my posse," Tate all but shouted, throwing her hands in the air and bringing them down against her sides with a snap. The silver bracelet on her wrist glinted from the lights of the streetlights, her hair was falling out of its careful bun. "Look, he's not interested in me, I'm not interested in him--" anymore, anyway "--I'm not even his type! God, a guy like him probably wants a blonde girl with more curls than a poodle."

She couldn't even remember what she'd been laughing about--couldn't remember much except always looking at Ladon and ugh, it was so unfair! He was her friend, both of them were, but it was Ladon who had actually deigned to keep talking to her after she'd played the Fatal Frame prank on him, who had agreed to come here just because she didn't want to be alone, and now he was mad at her and.

Anger, as usual, got the best of her. "If it was bothering you why the ******** didn't you SAY anything!" She would have stopped!

“Cause I don’t c**k BLOCK!” The shout rang in his ears at what he said, and he sucked in quick after saying it. It came out before he even thought of a better alternative for such a expression. Well, damnit, it got his point across anyways. Yeah, he was pissed. Who gave a flying ******** anyways?!

“I’m not about to go over and tell you what to do and who you can’t mess around with! I’m just not going to watch. You can do whatever you want! Just leave me at home when you do!” He turned sideways to look at the road, giving her a faint pink that was flushed around his ears. Dirty words got the better of him.

She fell back a step, further recriminations dying on her lips. Sure, she wasn't exactly untouched but did he think--it sounded like he thought--"You think I'm a slut?" Her voice cracked, and the hated high heels clicked as she fell back one more step.

Don't cry, she ordered herself, not entirely sure why she would want to. Who cared anyway? If he could think that about her, then maybe he wasn't the sort of guy she'd thought he was, maybe they shouldn't be friends.

"NO! That's not what I meant at all! I just, you know, whenever, for the future you might be. I didn't want to get in the way! I didn'td mean you were going to do - that right that night! I mean for wanting to get together with him! Oh you know what I mean!" He in no way wanted to imply she was a whore. That just wasn't him, and he didn't see her that way. This was the first time he even saw her flirt, and even then, she was all little giggles that didn't seem like she was faking it. She had modesty, and that wasn't as common as he would have hoped it would be. He might even call her a lady.

He went quite, and stood there with his hands across his chest, but all the fire he had was blown out. Looking over, he noticed the few steps she stumbled back, as if he shot her right in her chest after insinuating that she was easy.

He would have said something if he didn't already worry he'd just screw up and insert his foot into his big mouth again.

A grumble from his stomach broke the silence, and he was reminded that he didn't eat. Touching his vest, he looked down, then down the street, before looking back up to her. "You want to talk about this someplace else? It's freezing out here. You're not really dressed to be walking out here - here." She didn't even bring her coat with her, and he took his off and handed it to her. "I at least have long sleeves. You're mother is going to kill you if you get sick, and I know you don't want to stay home with her."

Holding it out for her to take, to which he would insist she took, he finally met her more in the eyes. "It's a really pretty dress. You look nice in it." He forgot to tell her before.

For one long moment, she considered refusing and going back to the party and acting like the whore he seemed to think she was. But that wouldn't help anything, she didn't want to be petty, she just wanted to not risk losing a friend she already dearly treasured.

"All right," she said, brushing her fingertips along the chain of her necklace. And, subdued, she continued: "I can go get my coat." They weren't that far from the Fondue Haus; she'd need to retrieve it eventually, might as well do it while they were close by. Her wallet, too, was with her coat. Then again, she really didn't want to go back there, and the reluctance was clear. "Need my wallet, anyway--come with me? I promise you don't have to come in."

Unspoken, but clearly heard, was Don't turn your back on me. It was something she would probably never actually say, but it was there for anyone who wanted to hear it.

Then, quieter, still aching from the accusation, she said, "Thanks, but--" she cut herself off, shaking her head.

It wasn’t simple forgiveness she was giving him, but the offer to let him go with her was at least an acceptance to his almost apology and an overall tolerance to just let him be around her. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. It might take a lot of convincing and model friend behavior before he was in the clear again, but at least this wasn’t the night were he lost one of the few people who he could actually talk to that he felt was worth talking to. He really should have considered his attitude before he stormed off. Having been all set to just not bother with Tate anymore, he knew that he’d be spending the entire year regretting that decision. When you had no friends, you had ample time to think of why you had no friends and why that was. He didn’t want ‘because you’re an idiot’ as a reason.

Quite, he curled his hand back to his chest, holding the coat close. He should have expected that, and he slowly put his coat back on as he moved a few steps closer to her, eyes down. “I’ll walk with you.”

He waited a moment.

“I sorry - bout what I said - and for leaving.”

So much for being angry and making her crawl to him begging to be his friend. Really, you had to be a important person worth having around to have anyone want to beg to be their friend, and he just wasn’t that great in the first place.

"And... I'm sorry for leaving you behind," said Tate, "for... acting like that."

She said something wrong again, she knew it, looking at his downcast face. If this was what being right was, she didn't want it; she wanted him to cheer up and smile like he was supposed to. It was a little petty that that sort of thing made her frown. "We're still friends, right," she asked, reaching out to tentatively touch the sleeve of his jacket. She wanted to b***h and be petty, act like she would with Giselle, but something seized up in her chest at that thought. Ladon wasn't Giselle. He was...

Tate did not want to think about that. They would do all right if they just didn't think about the whole argument, she thought as she darted back into the Fondue Haus to grab her coat and wallet.

She stood next to Ladon for a moment, watching the steam of their breath in the cold. "Where do you want to go," asked Tate, shouldering her purse and tucking her hands into her sleeves.

A little smile tugged at his face for a few seconds as he looked up at her. “Yeah, we’re still friends.” The smile went away, but not into a frown but more of being thoughtful and unsure. It was a good thing and a great relief that they were still friends, but it only showed him how close they were to breaking apart. He had to be more careful. He couldn’t screw this up.

They stood on the sidewalk for a few more moments before heading back to the Fondue Haus. The place was still active, the party going strong, but instead of going inside, he stood by the door. He didn’t want to run into anyone to talk to him or get angry all over again. He only hoped she wouldn’t get preoccupied inside, but she soon stepped out, putting her coat on before they started walking away in no direction in particular.

Reaching back into his own wallet, he checked the amount and looked back up at her. “Well, somewhere cheap would be best, and not too many places are open this late.” He looked about, thinking of exactly where they were and what was close. “I think there is a McDonalds a few blocks from here – if that’s okay with you? Whatever you want.” He didn’t want to upset her again.
