Mistral had found a hiding spot. Which was good, because it was hiding spot or a spot six feet under, because there was a Negaverse General stalking her and good on her for not having a ******** paper and pen on her to write a letter asking Babylon for help! seriously, she was going to invent something to fix that. Either way, she couldn't quite move from the space between two chimneys without getting caught by the General who was... rather politely waiting for her to come down.

"C'mon, Page," called Avalon from the ground floor. "Look, I just want you to talk to someone." Yeah, Mistral thought, that was definitely going to be how it went down, she could already tell that was not the entire plan. Did she look that stupid? "My signet doesn't work anymore. Just let me borrow yours, and I'll let you go!"

This was not going to go well if she didn't, like, find someone soon. She was just not going to move, if the General was going to stay there. Except then, at the very corner of her mental map of the area, she sensed something... weird. Something big, but something so inimitably Order that she really couldn't ignore the opportunity it represented. So she yelled, "Help!" as loud as she ******** could.

The Templar felt two auras nearby. Whenever he felt a Chaos and an Order aura in one spot, he always got a little nervous. Generally, that meant something bad was happening, and while he was sometimes surprised to just find them talking or passing without incident, most of the time he found a fight or something worse. He did not have it in him to ignore it, either way, and instinctively moved toward it.

It did not take him long to find the area, and he first spotted the Negaverse General before he could see the hiding Page. He did sense it, though, and that was enough to spike his protective instincts into high gear.

"Bullying people weaker than you, hm?" He said stiffly, not realizing who he was talking to. He had not yet called his shield to him, approaching without a weapon or the intention to fight. He just wanted to get the Page out of danger, but was not overtly aggressive these days. Which was fine, as, as a Templar, he found he did not really have to be. Most Negas got the hint just when he showed up.

He would stick to talking for as long as it worked for him, though his expression was serious and he would not leave room for anyone else to be hurt. He was a protector first, and only after that could he focus on trying to combat Chaos without actually fighting those who had fallen to it.

Oh thank God the Order aura had noticed, or heard, or something. She leaned just a little out of her hiding place for a better vantage point, carefully clinging to the side of the chimney so she wouldn't fall. Europa had promised her that Pages usually landed in their feet, but Mistral didn't think she really fell too neatly under the label of 'page'. 'Lightly powered civilian with a homeland on Mercury,' maybe.

Down on the ground, Avalon ground her teeth at the interference. Her heart dropped into her stomach at the voice, though. Maybe it dropped all the way down into the Rift. "Yeah, Camelot," she said. "More like trying to get her to deliver a message." She hefted her sword in her hand and turned to face him. His aura said something more analogous to General-King than her own rank of General. "You got more powerful," she said. "Don't suppose you'd like to test that, so I can get back to trying to get that little b***h of a Mercury page to talk to Babylon?"

Camelot frowned, watching Avalon. He'd heard, of course, but he was hoping he would not have to cross paths with her. Maybe that was a selfish hope, but he was not infallible. Whenever it came to his personal investments, it was harder for him to approach them with the same sagely, determined optimism that he tried to pass on to others.

He did not acknowledge her comment on his power, watching her evenly, his expression difficult to read. Mostly because he was not sure what sort of emotion he was supposed to be presenting, and opted to just hide them all away for now and focus on the problem at hand.

Protect the Page.

"You should leave," he suggested, evenly, his voice, at least, patient and coming out without the shake he had been expecting. "And forget you ever met that Page. Leave her, and Babylon, alone, if you aim to do them harm. If you want someone to talk to, I'm always open to conversation." And he would defend his allies and friends valiantly, if they needed to be defended. When it came to Chaos, no one was safe.

He didn't call his shield yet, but he needed to be ready. Though he did not want to fight Avalon for anything in the world, he knew that Chaos was not so generous.

She bared her teeth. "No," said Avalon. She was pretty sure the only way she was going to leave Babylon alone was if he becomes literally incorruptible. Or if she died, which was still preferable to being Babylon-less for like, the next hundred years. Or however long the Negaverse's glorious empire lasted.

Was it stupid to fight a fourth stage knight, whatever their equivalent of a General-King was? Uh… yes. Was Avalon going to be that stupid? Sure! She knew the rules of knighthood. He would be stronger and faster than her, but she had a sword. Last she'd seen of Camelot, he'd had… what, a shield? It'd hurt, but she could teleport, sooo…

Anyway. If she could take down a fourth, that might be a worth a promotion of her own… and if she had that…

With visions of a corrupted Babylon dancing in her head, Avalon lunged forward, swinging her sword in a killing arc.

Up above her, Mistral shrieked, "Oh my god look out she has a ******** sword," which would probably have been helpful if Avalon hadn't already been in motion. Either way, she figured--this was probably her salvation. She could scatter right now and neither of the titanic forces clashing on the street below would follow her, and that would be just aces.

But it was very unlikely, so she stayed put.

Camelot frowned and moved to call his shield to his arm. He did it only to stop Avalon's attack, not wanting to hurt her. The large dragon emblazoned on its front absorbed the impact with a metallic ring, its green eye glimmering in the sunlight. His Terra Viridis crystal remained inside the shield, where it had been when he was a knight. The shield around it had changed, grown more grand and powerful, sturdy but, for him, no heavier than it ever had been. It was almost as tall as he was, though he would still need to duck behind it if he were blocking something massive coming at him.

"Don't worry!" He called to the young page, hearing her panicking and his instincts telling him to calm her first. She was his primary concern here, after all, and he did not want her leaping into the battle thinking she needed to protect him, and getting herself hurt for it. "I'll be fine. Stay hidden, please!"

He kept his eyes on Avalon, though, pushing back against her sword sharply in an effort to shove her back a few steps. He did not lower his shield, peering over it at her.

"You can't beat me like this: you have no idea what you're doing. I don't want to hurt you, but I will not let you hurt anyone else. Please, let me help you: it doesn't have to be this way. I can bring you back, if you would just let me."

"******** you," said Avalon, disdain coating her voice like poison over the proverbial apple. Babylon had confided in her that her aura tasted like rotten fruit now, and, hey, whatever worked for him--but if that was so, Camelot's was toothachingly sweet and clean. Too warm, it burned in her mouth. The aftershocks of his block ran her arm, a sharp ache in her elbow. She'd have to be faster to get him, she concluded. "If I want to hurt that page, you can't stop me," she challenged, "if I want to destroy my Wonder, you can't stop me then, either. I know where it is."

And she smiled, a little. "I know where yours is, too. Want to bet I can ******** that right up?" She vanished, reappeared behind him, and swung--the black sword flew in a deadly arc for his unshielded side. "In case you forgot, I'm stronger now than a knight could ever be."

Mistral put her hands over her ears and tried not to feel exactly how pathetic all this was. She was twenty-three; she'd survived worse things than this; and down there there was somebody fighting for her life. Granted, she'd just ruin things if she got involved, but… she wanted to. So badly.

Wait, couldn't she just… Mistral scooted back in her hidey-hole, and kicked at one of the shingles on the roof beneath her. It wouldn't be elegant, but maybe… if she could just daze the General, it'd be enough to get her and whoever had rescued her away?
