After dark was the best time to patrol, no doubt about it. It lowered the risk of being seen, lowered the risk of getting civilians hurt. Both good things, Avalon knew. But it was a Saturday night just after Halloween on Destiny City University's campus, and a lot of people are out and about--some in costume, which makes Avalon's Arthurian shiftiest a little less ostentatious than it might be otherwise.

It also made it very hard to henshin down when she sensed a Chaos energy signature, and it took Avalon quite some time to worm away from the crowds and find a quiet room in the campus library. She couldn't be sure that the Negaverser or Dark Mooner or whatever hadn't seen and followed her--but the library was closed, and she could probably count on getting them away from the civilians at least. She did have her access card to get through any automatically locking doors, after all.

Still too soon to go around assuming she was safe, though, she thought.

Wolframite couldn't stop thinking of Tate. Ever since seeing her at the beach, or finding out about that senshi as Ladon while walking home, he thought of her and what she was up to - which clearly wasn't anything good. He told her, warned her, to stay away, and yet she was mixed up in this again? Worse yet, to some scum senshi who was protecting her. She thought she didn't need protection and yet she getting senshi to mess with her? How did she meet them? Was she stupid again and chased after one? What else was she up to?

It frustrated him, and he decided to find her campus. It wasn't hard, some searching online, and he made his way when he was sure Billy was working. He loved him, but he didn't want him to ask why he was patrolling here if he decided to follow. No. He was just...looking. Scouting.

And he found a signature that made him want to snarl. Teeth clenched, he moved over to a roof, finding it hard as the buildings were older and not flat on top. It involved scrambling and balancing, and the cool fall winds were making it hard to be steady. Still, he held to the walls of a tower and looked around, seeing sluggish, drunk girls in minskirts and cat ears move down the way, laughing loudly.

He didn't care for now. He'd return home and enjoy a somewhat scary movie (maybe but not TOO scary cause he was still skittish) with Billy and go to bed.

Duty called now, and he moved down, darting past the large fields of paved lawn before moving to a tree and up the library roof. He felt it near, and he moved to the edge, looking around as he breathed deep, his breath floating out.

And then there it was again. Avalon froze, as if that would hide her signature, as if she could feasibly transform back into Tate there in the shadow of the library. She'd thought going through the library would lose the Negaverser, but clearly it hadn't; the signature was even closer now, maybe. Avalon turned on her heels to face the signature and said, "Hey! Come out already and we'll… we'll do something, I don't know." Fight? Talk? The signature was big. Not quite as big as she imagined it could be, but… But a lot of Negaversers did seem like they just wanted to talk to her. To convince her--or any Order member--that they were wrong. And sometimes she thought they might be right, but everything pointed to her waking up on the right side, but--

"Come on," she said, frustrated.

He dropped down at the request, landing with a soft crunch of gravel under his heels before rising. The shadows worked great against the all black uniform, but the green gem star he wore and small highlights to his uniform shown in the dark just slightly, the gem most of all catching a campus lamplight further off.

It was her. The girl that said she was protecting Tate. This vile senshi who tricked her and was believing to be good for her. Why? She couldn't convert a civilian. Of course there was no way she would know what he knew.

"I didn't think I'd run into you? Why would a senshi be here?"

Wolframite! Avalon stepped back, catching herself. He seemed reasonable--he wasn't outright hostile towards her civilian form, but that didn't mean anything, did it? It wasn't as if he knew Avalon was Tate at all. She ought to proceed with caution. "I live near here," she said, bringing her hands up before her just in case. "People I'm close to live near here, too."

Damnit, she didn't have to explain herself to him. She gritted her teeth. "Not that I owe you any kind of explanation. What are you doing here, then?"

"Oh, what I'm always around at night for." He held his hands up and a chain materialize in it. The chain was strong, elegant in shine, but it was the large, serrated blades like vicious arrowheads at each end, detailed with a intricate design on the blades. "Thought you might be hanging around, protecting someone, turning the heads of innocent girls." His hands gripped the chain tight before he started to spin one end.

"A girl that I know." His good eye narrowed, gleaming forest green, glaring at her. "But I don't think your meddling will last very long."

Turning the heads of innocent girls?… "Who the ******** are you talking about," she asked, backing away from the spinning blade. A girl he knew? Well, it wasn't like Avalon had ever mentioned her other self to Wolframite. Only to Ladon, and… could Wolframite have been there, listening? She didn't think so. She would have sensed him! Wouldn't she? "I think you must have made a mistake," she said. "I don't know who you are or who you're talking about." How the hell were you even supposed to fight bladechucks? Or whatever those were. God, once she'd played Soul Calibur religiously, but she couldn't remember anything she'd seen anyone in that game do against any nunchuck wielding character for the life of her--

"Let me leave," she said. "I'll go, I swear I'll go."

Wolframite smiled, something feral and almost gleeful to hear her ask to be let go. He liked when they kicked after all, and he had a lot of experience ripping out starseeds. Sure, they were trying to convert senshi these days, but he did like just ending them.

"Oh no. If I let you go, you'll go and talk to Tate. You'll mess her mind up to make her think you are the good guys when all you do is twist this planet to your whims. I can't let that happen." The spinning grew faster, the sound whistling through the air as it spun like a helicopter blade.

That look on his face was not one Avalon wanted to see ever again. If she was shaking, she was going to pretend she wasn't. Wolframite had to have overheard her talking to Ladon, she'd never even mentioned her other self even in a monologue. How the hell had he found out? Unless it was someone else--but--who? How? Oh, ******** hell, ******** ******** ******** best chance would be to make a break for it, but he could teleport. She'd seen Zinkenite do it at this rank, hadn't she? Hadn't she? "I don't twist anything," she said, unable to keep the panic from her voice. God, when Wolframite had said he'd changed, she hadn't believed him… "I'm not messing with her mind, I'm telling her the truth!" But even Avalon wasn't sure what the truth was anymore. In her civilian life, she tried to ignore all this so the questions would stop haunting her, but it rarely worked, and now…

She backed up another step, and then broke for the left, trying to get around Wolframite. If she could get into a crowded area, he'd have to stop, right?

As she turned to race, Wolframite smiled and materialized in front of her only a few feet in front. There was no escaping him. He would tie her down and break her legs for even thinking she could. "You made her think that you could keep her safe, that you are her protector. Now I know that's a lie, and I'll show Tate that when I rip out your starseed." He stepped closer. "You are no friend of her's, and to even dare go near her, to bring your senshi lies to her, to make her doubt and pull her into this mess, for that I'm going to make sure to make you an example to all the other little bitches who think the same."

He started to wind up his weapon again.

The ******** irony. Telling him who she was would save her--but it'd also damn her, wouldn't it? He'd want her dead for betrayal, for lies. "I haven't done anything to you!"

He obviously wasn't going to let her go; she brought her wand to hand, for what good its unknown powers would bring her. She doubted Wolframite would be so easy to defeat as a youma--the same tricks probably wouldn't work. (Could she even handle jamming her wand into Wolframite's eye? It seemed like a lifetime ago that she'd thought she'd be okay with that.)

That doubt in her mind, she tried again to get around him. This time, he didn't teleport to catch her; something wrapped around her ankle and yanked, and she went down on the pavement, hard. She reacted fast enough to get her arms under her head--at least she'd avoid a concussion--but that sent enough pain through her arms to make her certain something had to be dislocated, or broken. It knocked the breath right out of her, nausea filling anywhere that wasn't suddenly obsessed with the pain of being dragged along the ground.

She rolled over as best she could, clutching her arms in close to her body when she felt pavement to her back. "If you do this she's never going to speak to you again," she said, breathless, haltingly. "You'll never see her again, she'll die--"

The running made him smile, and he waited a moment before he aimed and swept his chain out in a wide arch, letting it catch about her legs. The moment they hit, they were quick to wrap around and he gave a firm yank to send her falling. The sound of her body impacting the ground was aaalll too satisfying. Then, just when he gave her a second to breath, he started to drag her closer and closer and closer still.

At her calling, he clenched his teeth. "DIE?! You being around her will kill her, or is that a threat? She would have been dead AGES ago if it wasn't for me, and I'll make sure she doesn't get touched by anyone like you again. I'M the only one that will protect her. I'M the only one who knows what's right! YOU are the evil of this world that will tear her limb from limb, rip out her tongue, and set her on fire!!" He called out, yanking her harder to get her closer. He wanted her skin to rub, to ppeeelll off.

Okay, okay, that was a bad tactic. The fabric of her tunic tore as she was dragged along the ground, and she began to think that yes, this was going to end badly. This was going to end so ******** badly--"That's not what I meant," she said, trying in vain to kick her legs free. If she could just move

No such luck. And she didn't think there was a thing she could say that would dissuade him, and with that thought came a kind of cold acceptance, like everything inside her had turned to ice, black ice. If she was going to die, she wanted to know why. "What happened to you, Wolframite," she asked, knowing her voice was cracking, knowing that this would never end well, that she was going to die. "You weren't ever like this before."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 8:44 pm

He yanked one last time till she was at his feet, to which he dug his heel under her stomach and kicked her over. "What do you know about who I was before? From what SHE told you? Did she talk about who I once was?" It hurt to think that Tate talked to this senshi about him, and that she would have a need to talk to a senshi. It was true he left her, but she sought out this alternative had just hurt him. Did she tell this woman that he left her? That he was bad to her?

He leaned down, pressing his knee into her stomach as he put his weight on her and then pulled the chain to bring the end to his hand. A large serrated arrow in his hand, richly decorated on it's face. "She never knew what I had to go through. I kept her safe because I didn't want her to know. If she did, she would have NEVER spoken to you."

He gripped a arm, looking at the soft, unmarked flesh. "She didn't know how the BMC trapped me and the other captains." He took the blade and cut, drawing blood. He went to another patch of unmarked skin, his own hand holding the blade and cutting his own hand as he cut. "She didn't know how I was strapped to a chair, starved of food, sleep, and mercy." He cut again, deep enough for the blade to chew the flesh, but not deep enough to rip the muscle. He wanted to draw it out, bleed it out till he saw nothing but bits of red.

"She didn't know how I was stomached and kicked, punched and set on fire. Forced to hear the screams of those who fought beside me each and every moment down those dark, cold hallways." He cut again, again, again.

He stopped, then looked at her, his one eye wavering with pure emotion. "She didn't see them butchered and bleed out like pigs." He took her other arm, and cut this new limb. "How she sang just before she died. How the others were chopped and ..and...PIECES JUST TOSSED ABOUT AT OUR FEET!" He cut again and again. Blood. He wanted all there blood. His own hand was bleeding, and he took the other hand, coated in her blood, and wiped at his own tearing eyes.

"She didn't know, and she doesn't need to know." He breathed, looking back at her. "Because I will tear apart each and every one of you that goes near her so she never knows." He brought the blade in both his hands, poised above her. "And I will protect her."

God, she just kept digging herself deeper and deeper into a hole, didn't she? She couldn't think too deeply about that, though; she couldn't think about anything but breathing when he planted his knees in her stomach. "Letmegoletmegoletmego," she gasped, but of course he didn't, and any thoughts about being stoic in the face of certain doom fled with the first cut of the knife. God, she'd thought she'd experienced the worst of it on the Surrounding, when the blade had scored across her back--that was nothing. This was miles worse.

Each time he cut her, she couldn't help but tense and spasm--even knowing that that would make the cuts worse, make them harder to be repaired, and she felt sick at the realization that if she lived, even if she lived, she was never going to be able to forget this. She'd carry the scars for the rest of her life.

"This isn't how," she said, her voice going shrill with terror at the raised blade. Was this it? She wasn't going to die, was she? Oh, God--
