Okay, so, she'd seen plenty of youma as a civilian in all kinds of shapes, but never as many in one night as she'd seen just now.

Actually, she wasn't even sure what she was doing out. She had fought that weird chimera monster off, gotten this magical apple, and had a prompt breakdown on a bench for long enough to attract a senshi over to tell her exactly what the hell was going on. Apparently she was powered but not a senshi, and hell, she'd never heard of knights or whatever she was supposed to be. Some kind of fakey-fake good Negaverse officer? All she knew was that she was Avalon, a Page of Earth, and her weapon--brace yourself, this was terrifying and fearsome and all those things no one really wanted to face--an apple. A Red Delicious apple.

Sure. It was impervious to all kinds of damage. But it was still an apple and she had to wield it against animals with teeth and enemies with knives.

Wolframite had knives, anyway. And she knew he would never take kindly to meeting someone like her. Theoretically, anyway. But hopefully, if things worked out, she'd never have to meet him ever, so, no big deal. Right? Right.

Which still left her with the problem of this current youma. It resembled nothing so much as a massive squirrel with sharp, pointy teeth that hooked up and out of its mouth. So... how was she going to defeat it with an apple? Avalon chucked the apple in its direction, crying out a very frustrated "<********>" as it sailed directly over the youma's head and into the trees. "******** seriously?"

Well, he'd gone out with the intention of heading to the meeting point to get back into space and help with random missing civilians from the city, but Valhalla found himself sidetracked by the sudden sensation of a youma and what he was... pretty certain was another knight. They just seemed to be popping up everywhere now. One of his best friends, even... It was definitely a small world, and he was especially happy to meet those on the same side.

Or at least those who knew what it was like to not have magic and be stuck with sucky weapons.

He'd approached the youma from behind, in the hopes of coming up with a surprise attack, when suddenly there was rustling in the trees and an apple came falling out of it. What the...? He was pretty certain this was not an apple tree, but as he reached his hand out to grab it, he discovered that it was in fact an apple. Huh...

Not that there was much time to think about it. The knight he'd felt must be just past the furry creature, and he wasn't about to let whoever it was be eaten. Heck, knowing his luck, it was probably Naica, cowering against the side of a building. But side stepping a little around the monster revealed that it was actually a girl! Ah... a tall girl.

The youma seemed to feel his presence and turned to look over its shoulder at the new arrival. He wasn't sure how much it would do, but Valhalla quickly wound up for a pitch and shot the apple at the youma's face, effectively breaking off one of its hooked teeth. "What the hell?!" the page sputtered, staring at where the apple had dropped to the ground and rolled off towards the girl. That was no ordinary apple!!

She was pretty sure her apple was not, in fact, a boomerang. Like, ninety-nine percent sure that her apple did not have any boomerang DNA in its indestructible genes. Which wasn't one hundred percent: It was just close enough to surprise Avalon when the apple came flying back into the face of the giant rabid squirrel monster with sharp, pointy, death-defying teeth. Then the apple's pitcher appeared; it was a boy with brown hair, wearing a furry tunic. Another knight? Sure didn't look like a senshi, anyway. She leapt forward to gather up the apple into her hands and use it like a rock on the squirrel's head.

It made a funny squelching noise: not the apple. The monster squirrel's skull made the sickening noise.

That did not apparently stop it from moving. Now it just looked ******** deformed. "You're telling me," she said, voice fluting up into the panic range. "Don't they ever stop?"

Valhalla made a horrified face at the youma and the noise it had made. What the hell was that?!

"You'll get used to it!" he called back over to her, hoping she wasn't going to start freaking out on him. "Have you seen what this guy can do yet? Be careful, it might be a good jumper," he warned, not wanting either of them to be caught off guard by this thing. He couldn't help but guess that she was pretty new to all this, what with her reaction and all.

It did get easier after a while. He didn't think he'd ever get used to fighting these guys, but soon enough it just became another part of life. Sadly.

At least this youma seemed pretty fragile. It might be easier to take out than they thought.

"You okay??" he asked, wanting to check as he darted around to the side of the youma, wanting to get in a good place to try and grab its tail if it tried to get away.

"It screams," she yelled over to him, haphazardly throwing the apple at the crazed squirrel. God, was it even supposed to be able to move that fast? "Really loud, it... paralyzes you for a second, or something!" Just as she finished explaining, the squirrel let out a garbled howl; she flinched, though apparently her blow had quite stifled the ability. God, how had she ever thought the senshi were monstrous? Look at these things. These monsters the Negaverse made. Oh, she'd known about them, but not so... completely. So surely.

She was learning a lot more, and learning it very quickly. Her apple had missed, sending the small red orb bouncing back over to Valhalla. Avalon Page had absolutely shitty aim, which Tate Konstantin could have told absolutely anyone. "I'm fine," she decided, and then repeated it louder to him: "Just fine! Can you do that thing you did again, with the breaking its teeth?"

Maybe one more good blow would do the trick.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 17, 2011 12:26 pm

"It screams??" he repeated as if to make sure that's what he'd heard. Great, just great.

His hands shot up to his ears when it had opened its mouth to growl, expecting to be paralyzed, but it didn't happen. Thank goodness, because he would much rather not be squirrel food.

Valhalla saw the apple rolling back over to him and he scooped it up before the youma had a chance to lunge at him. He skirted out of the way and turned to stare in surprise at the young woman's request. "Again?" Well, that was probably a good idea. Getting rid of its teeth would at least minimize the amount of damage they might take. "Yeah, stand back," he called over, watching as the youma turned back around to face them, ready to pounce.

Breathing in, he took a moment to center himself and aim, before then winding up and releasing the apple as fast as he could. It was a little awkward, not aiming towards the ground, or straight out in front, but rather up in the air... but the indestructible apple seemed to get the job done. He missed getting most of its teeth because the youma had moved at the last second, but it still hit the side of its face and it burst into dust, the apple bouncing off and back to its owner.

An apple was definitely better on his hand than a rock or brick.

Apparently the furry guy had done exactly what needed to be done to get the monster dusted, which worked just fine for Avalon. She crouched to pick up her apple, dusted it off in the skirt of her tunic. The brooch at her navel pinched a little, but she figured that was the price of having that belt; it at least let her pretend she had a womanly shape. "Good throw," she said, tentatively flicking her wrist to tuck the apple back into subspace where it belonged when she didn't need it. Perfect. A+, let's never ******** do that ever again.

She smiled a little at him, the expression with a bit of a sarcastic bent because ******** all, Avalon always felt a little sardonic. "Guess you shoved something where it didn't belong." She picked around in the dust with the toe of her boot, dark eyes thoughtful. There were some shiny orbs, and she crushed them beneath a foot as she generally did. Sure, she didn't know what those were, but she knew they were probably important and ought to be returned to whoever had provided it.

"You're pretty accurate with the throwing thing. Do you play some kind of sport, or something? I can't throw for s**t, it's basically ******** embarrassing."

He watched curiously as she picked up the apple and... made it disappear... and he stared at her in surprise. She made it disappear... that was... well, he hadn't seen that done before. At least he couldn't remember it being done... He didn't really pay attention to other people's weapons and where they got them from.

Valhalla wasn't really sure how to take her comment, but figured it wasn't meant as anything hostile. They'd both worked together to get the youma dusted, and that's all that mattered in the end, right?

"Huh? Oh, yeah," he nearly stuttered over his words, still trying to figure out how she made her apple disappear. Wait, so the apple was her weapon, right...? She couldn't make just anything disappear, could she?? "I'm a pitcher... An apple isn't the same as a baseball, so it wasn't as fast as it could have been, but it got the job done, obviously."

He paused, looking her over for a few moments, before taking a few steps closer to her. "I'm Valhalla... Jupiter," he added, realizing that he should probably include the planet he was apparently pledged to. "I could teach you, sometime. It's not too difficult... You just have to get the right kind of momentum going."

Was he stuttering? That was cute. It was also annoying, and probably not a great trait for a fighter for interstellar justice. Things had to be balanced, though. Maybe he lost a driving sense of morality in order to obtain mad pitching skills? Man, with the perversity of the stars, she would bet on it. He probably ran around throwing baseballs at people or things just for kicks! Downright shameful.

Still, he'd been pretty useful and he had to serve Justice overall in order to be a Page, if he was one. "That'd be great, Valhalla and-or Jupiter, I'm not sure which you meant? I'm Avalon, Page of Earth. Whatever the hell that means." She took it to mean that it was her right and privilege to bring balance to the city without extreme prejudice, so that was that. After a moment's thought, she decided to share her opinion with him. Surely he'd be curious. "I take it to mean that I'm supposed to be working towards the end of this bullshit," she said, gesturing off to the pile of dust that was blowing away in the summer breeze. "It makes the most sense." Fell right in line with her worldview, actually.

After a moment, she held out a hand for him to share. "Pleasure to meet you, Valhalla Jupiter. How long have you been playing on the dizzying merry-go-round of Destiny City's secret gang war?"
PostPosted: Thu Sep 29, 2011 10:22 pm

"Ah, no... it's just... Valhalla..." he tried to explain, taking hold of her hand when it was offered, but trailed off near the end, showing her an awkward, half-concerned smile. "Um... I meant that I'm a Page of Jupiter," he decided to explain after a few moments, anyway. "It's nice to meet you, too. And yeah, I guess we're around to take care of monsters and protect whoever we can."

It was difficult to figure out what they were exactly when there wasn't really a guide book to use on the topic. They were knights... but what was the reason for them to start showing up...? Senshi and Negaverse officers started appearing with some kind of purpose, right...? Or maybe not... he wasn't sure, he only knew what he'd been told.

"I've been like this since the beginning of summer," he confessed, even though he felt as if he had a long way to go in order to be able to protect civilians and the rest of the world. There was only so much he could do, but he was willing to give it his all. "Are you new at this...? Not that you seem to be an amateur... It's just... others like us seem to appear every day."

Ah, so, he was a Page of Jupiter just like she was a page of Earth. That made sense. She smiled a little bit, and took her hand back. Pretty shy, though, like she'd thought. What was it with her and the shy ones? Anyway, she thought honestly though she might keep calling him Valhalla Jupiter. It amused her, and sounded a lot more superhero-y than what his name actually was. She was going to bet on a Robin, or maybe a Christopher... Tate Konstantin, though, that was a perfectly superheroic name. You could trust a name like Tate Konstantin.

"How broad of a definition is 'monsters'," she asked, curiously; did everyone have some kind of qualm about punishing evildoers, or was she just being a wuss about fighting the good fight? "Just the non-human monsters, or the ones that pretend to be people, because I've heard it both ways and don't know where I stand just yet."

That was a lie. Avalon knew exactly where she stood and it was firmly over the line into Justice Territory. Which was a real place, by the way. Completely real. "Just been doing this a bit over a week," she informed him. "So you're way up there in experience points, compared to me."
PostPosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:09 pm

"Very broad," he replied with a grimace. "At least where youma are concerned," he corrected, knowing he was edging into grey area when it came to people being monsters. People did monstrous things, but that didn't mean there weren't reasons behind actions. Not that he was trying to pardon some of the things people have done, but he didn't like seeing in black and white. There was always another side to the story and things lost in translation.

"If you mean the Negaverse," he continued, pausing and not sure if he wanted to get into this or not. "I don't think they're monsters. Not deep down. I mean, I haven't met many, but those I did didn't seem completely horrible. And they've been through some things, too." But then again, he's also been told that he was a bleeding heart and couldn't be trusted to tell the difference between the good and the bad and just assumed everyone was innately good.

He blinked when she mentioned only doing this for a week, surprised that she was so new. She didn't seem that new. "Oh, wow. Um... Welcome to the family, then." Valhalla smiled, not really sure what he meant by that, but figured he could at least try to let her know she was wanted and not alone. "If you ever need anything, just let me know... but, uh, we probably shouldn't be lingering around out here... might attract more, uh... monsters."

Well this was confusing. Everything she knew about the Negaverse pointed to them being murderers. Murderers were bad. She excused killing another person under very specific circumstances, and 'needing energy to fight back the senshi plague' was not one of them. Reacting to abuse, maybe, but only during a situation where you were being abused. If the victims of torture Zinkenite had spoken to her about had snapped and killed the ones hurting them, she wouldn't have blamed them at all. Would have cheered them on, in fact. But... most of the people they murdered, from what she'd been told, what she'd seen, were just normal people.

"I think they are," she said. "They make the youma. They set them loose. They used to attack people and rip out their souls. Their... starseeds? I know. It almost happened to me three times." And it hurt like hell, and she hated it, and remembering made her feel jittery and weak, like her knees were made of jello.

What a coward Avalon Page was turning out to be.

She nodded after a moment, scrubbed her hands down the front of her tunic. "Alright," she said, "You go that way, and I'll go this way... See you, Valhalla Jupiter. Thanks for the assist, and the welcome."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2011 6:52 pm

Valhalla winced when Avalon spoke about youma ripping out starseeds. He hadn't witnessed something like that before, and something was telling him that he didn't want to see it happen. Or to be the one with the starseed getting ripped out... That would suck, too.

He didn't say anything, though, feeling uncomfortable now that she shared that she'd almost died a handful of times. Maybe he just... didn't know what he was talking about, then...? The nevagerse officers he'd met had... not been violent. Not too violent, anyway. Sure, one tried using him as a hostage and threatened to kill him, but there was another who just took his energy and left him.

"Okay," he said, looking up when she agreed to part ways, and he lifted a hand to wave goodbye as he stepped in the direction she suggested. "Any time. Hope to see you around, Avalon."

She wasn't the kind of girl he was used to running into, but he didn't mind. She seemed like she'd been through a lot, and he could respect that, even if she'd only been a Page for a week.
