Sometimes regular old home-based video gaming didn't do it for you, and game cafes just pissed you off with their high concentrations of skill-less morons seeking to leech off the talents you've worked hard to build.

These were the times when you hit the arcade like a bag of bricks.

Nobody knew tkonstantin from the President of France at the local arcade. She made no records, showed off no skills (except, of course, on the arcade fighters, where TKON was always, always, always in the top five once she was done) and just played in tense silence. For the entire duration of however many quarters she had dropped in. Standing there. Playing whatever game. Right now, it was Guitar Hero. Most people would be at least humming, but no. In dead silence, a look of irritated concentration to her, she proceeded to rock her face off on Normal mode.

Sure, not all that impressive, really. Just, she must've put in a lot of quarters, because she'd been playing for a long time, and it didn't look like she was going to move any time soon... People were getting restless. Maybe she'd let someone else play against her?

The arcade was almost a second home to one Demy Wright. The multicolored lights and loud game noises a siren's call to him anytime he stepped foot in the mall. Today was the usual trip. Go to the mall, hit up the arcade, eventually head back to the dorm.

STAR wasn't all that well known on the arcade machines, unless one just so happened to be playing Guitar Hero or one of it's variants. Any time he got his name on one of the other games it was usually taken down pretty fast by someone else. Usually his RIVAL Alex. No Alex here today though, and for that Demy had breathed a sigh of relief. He could get his scores back in peace.

Or he -could- have, if someone wasn't on the machine. In silence even. This was rather odd by Demy's standards. So with his own pocketful of quarters the blonde traversed the arcade and hung over the bar of the DDR machine next to the Guitar Hero one to watch the girl play.

"Man, you're pretty quiet ya know? You gotta get into the game, that's half the fun!"
He was grinning, head tilted slightly as he continued to watch. Man, if he could slip into a game with her he'd show how it was really done.

She didn't seem to notice anyone approaching, fixated on the screen in front of her. When Demy spoke, though, she practically jumped and slammed the fret bar; her points multiplier dropped back to one, and she grimaced. God damnit, she had been literally three more notes from getting a perfect on that song.

"Three. Notes," she ground out, turning her head to glare at the dumbass blond who'd interrupted her streak. "You couldn't have waited three notes?"

It didn't help that she was having a bad week, either. "I have four more credits," she snapped. "Put in coins and join in or go the hell away so I can finish." Gripe. Grouch. Not a good day to talk to Tatiana, no it was not.

"Nope, couldn't have waited three notes. Shame though, you were doing good!"
Sabotage? Him? NEVER.

But aha, inviting him to a game! Perfect. Sure it wasn't the nicest invitation he'd ever received, but it wasn't like he was going to reject a Guitar Hero challenge.
"Why, a game against you? I'd be honored."
He sauntered over, sliding in his quarters and picking up the controller all in one fluid movement. Ready? You bet your behind he was.

"Ready when you are, go on and pick."
Though his side of the screen? It was going on expert mode. Normal was -way- too boring for him, thank you very much.

b*****d. What a rotten b*****d! Ugh...

Well, Tate wouldn't sink to his level. She didn't bother trying to match him on expert level; hell, if he wanted to dig his own ******** grave, that was fine with her. Ugh! Ugh! ugh!

If she was choosing, she'd choose one of her better ones. One that tended to make most people gag because it was so overplayed worked for her, and she selected Eye of the Tiger without comment. Actually, she didn't seem inclined to commenting at all, her lips pressed together in a thin line. She would not speak. She would not. That would give away the raw irritation, if her expression wasn't enough.

The boy, however, seemed unable to make himself stop talking.
"Eye of the Tiger huh? Not a bad one, lots of people play it but hey, it's a classic!"
Mister bubbly annoy you while we try to play, that was him alright.

Dig his grave? As if. As the notes started to float down the screen, Demy hit each and every one without so much of a hint of trouble.

And he was still talking.

"So, come here often? Never seen you around before...maybe it's your first time! If it is you are luuuucky to have run across me man, I'm here all the time!"

She was going to hit him over the head with the guitar. Tate stood heartily convinced that the second she'd gotten her dollar's worth of game time she was going to hit him over the head with the guitar. Not only was his set of notes on the other side of the screen incredibly distracting, so was his incessant chatter.

And if she didn't hit him with hte guitar, she would. With her fist.

"I don't normally play Guitar Hero," she snapped irritably as she got her side of the screen confused with his again. "But I've been here before." a*****e.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 13, 2009 9:27 pm

The boy, meanwhile, was blissfully unaware of any planned meeting between plastic guitar and his head. Though it was -quite- possible this meeting had occurred in the past, who knew!

"Thaaaaat could explain it. I'm usually. right. here."
Words punctuated by perfect note hitting, as well as a timely execution of a full starpower bar. Excellent.
"Don't pay a lot of attention to the other games unless I'm really bored. What do you usually play man?"

The irritation in the other's voice? It wasn't registering. Not one bit.

"Soul Calibur," she gritted out. At least now she had her screens figured out and was back on her system of hitting notes just right.

She was still going to kick his a** later for being a douchebag. "My name's Tate. Use it," advised the brunette as the song ended and her dismally low score popped up. Ugh. That's why she liked to play arcade fighters. Only one screen. Kick a** on the one screen and you were in good.

"You pick," she said, gritting her teeth again.

"Ahhh, a fighting game person huh? Not really my forte, so no wonder we haven't run into each other. Oh well, can't be good at everything huh?"

His own rather -fantastic- score required a brief moment to input his name. He had done this often, so it took barely any time at all to input the name STAR and take them back to the song selection screen.
"Hey Tate, name's Demy, and sure thing."

Going right for the bottom section of songs, the blonde chose Cliffs of Dover. It was a personal favorite of his, mostly for the way fingers had to literally dance across the frets to hit damn near anything. Which was evident the moment the song started and his side of the screen started streaming notes.

Her eyes narrowed. He just had to be insulting. Had to be a douchebag. She was going to kick his ******** a** so hard people would think it was his face. "Congratulations," she said of the high score, her face pulled into a frown that clearly said Please die.

Deep, calming breaths. For this song, a new song, she would need calm and concentration. And quiet. The latter she might not get, but the former two, she could. Well, there was also the fact that her fingers didn't quite reach the fourth fret, and she didn't play this game often--

Ugh. She hated getting beat by anything that had a p***s.

He would argue that he wasn't trying to be insulting, he was in fact trying to be friendly! But Demy just didn't have time to think about what he said, and thus often said the wrong thing at exactly the wrong moment.

Much like the way this entire conversation had gone.

Thankfully for Tate this was one of Demy's favorite songs, which meant most of his attention was on his side of the screen and not her's. If she was missing that fourth key, he wasn't really going to notice. Not yet at least. Instead he was happily humming along with the music.

All things considered this was his version of quiet.

Tate breathed a sigh of irritated relief when the song ended. She did not like that song, let's never, ever play it again. At least her score was not so extremely abysmal and full of fail as it had been last time. God, if she couldn't beat a fruitloop like this she really had no reason to play this game at all.

Fruit loop. Hurr.

"Pick again," she said, not even waiting for the scores to pop up. God, only two more songs to go!

"Nu uh, ladies turn to pick! I wouldn't -think- of stealing the chance from you. Besides...didn't seem like you enjoyed the last one, it's only fair to let you pick one more suited to your tastes right?"

Again, he really -was- trying to be polite. But with the mood Tate was in it was likely to be taken the wrong way. Poor Demy really was doomed from the start of this little encounter. Not that he had noticed...

As far as fruitloops went, it was likely a good thing that wasn't said out loud. It probably would have sent him into a long and deep discussion about breakfast cereal.
