Kerberos would never admit to having something as silly as "abandonment issues" - it sounded so thoroughly, horribly cliche, like something a TV therapist diagnosed you with.
Which also meant that he refused to admit to the deep, settling anxiety in his chest surrounding Avalon leaving the country. Ever since Cait's disappearance, and given his nightmares lately that heavily featured everyone he cared about dead, he did not do well with the idea of people he cared about leaving him.
"Do you know how long you'll be gone for?" He asked. Hopefully not long.

Avalon shrugged. "As long as they want me gone," she said. Honestly, she'd be resisting more if part of her assignment wasn't literally see if you can find your wonder. How better to show Babylon she was as committed to her side as he was to his? The fact no one ever recalled about unstoppable forces and immovable objects was that there was no such thing. She'd find some way to corrupt him, even if she couldn't get his starseed out of him to keep him still. Maybe if she was very good, and asked Metallia very nicely… "You'll look after Astrophyllite, won't you?" She paused at a crosswalk, watched a few cars pass by. "I'm not sure she's as confident in her abilities as she should be, and I'm concerned Natron will just leave her out to hang in the wind if she's even a little difficult."

Avalon's answer wasn't a particularly reassuring one. That could mean anything from a few weeks to years, to permanently, and Kerberos sincerely doubted he would be on the list of people informed if Avalon was permanently reassigned.
Oh well. He'd have to hope for anything but that.
"I'll look after her, but speaking with the authority of having known the dude since we were both, like, five - he's not gonna do that. He's a little weird," to say the least, dear god it was still amazing to him that Gabriel Blake, conspiracy nut extraordinaire, was a General in the Negaverse, "but abandoning people isn't his style." Also he would personally punch Natron's face in if he even so much as tried.

"If I get permanently reassigned, I'll give you a call," she said. "And I'll be sure to let Astrophyllite know personally." Because no one should be afflicted with the reaction Astrophyllite would have if they didn't have to be, obviously. Avalon felt a little unhappy ache in her chest, and she sighed through her nose. She smiled and nodded at Kerberos's analysis. "That's why I've got you watching out for her," she said. "I have confidence in you, to keep her and yourself safe."

"I'd appreciate that." Kerberos said, and meant it. At least he'd know where she was. Ideally, he would prefer it not come to that, but it was very much out of his hands. She had stabbed two Generals, after all.
"I'll do my best," he said, exhaling. "And you made a good choice of General to pass her onto; if nothing else, you managed to pick the one on whom I have literal photo albums full of blackmail, so if he does anything stupid I can always threaten to release the photographic evidence that he once dressed up as Belle."

Avalon quirked a slightly sardonic smile, and patted Kerberos companionably on the back. "Thank god for you, Kerberos," she said, "I will definitely drink one in your name once I get to Oxford." She paused, and stopped just outside the park; if he does anything stupid, she thought. She sighed. "Don't you do anything stupid, either," she told him, hands on his shoulders. "I have put far too much into teaching you what's what to have to train a new senshi when I get back."

Kerberos laughed. "You'd better. Let me know if the drinks in England are any good?" It was easy to pretend that he wasn't absolutely freaking out when he concentrated, mostly, on little things, like what she'd be drinking overseas. Not on the fact that she was going overseas, or that the damn nightmares he'd been having still felt like premonitions and not just ordinary dreams. (Besides, they were about Destiny City; if anything, she might be safer in another country.)
"I promise I won't do anything excessively stupid," he said, "but my general decision-making track record really isn't all that good." Just keep joking around, and it'll be fine. "And don't enjoy England too much, I don't want to find out I'm getting reassigned again. It's a pain in the a**. And you know inflicting me on any other General would just be cruel."

She plucked one of the flowers from his hair and, after a moment's thought, tucked it into her own. It would vanish from the moment he henshined down, or perhaps even when she did, but it made her feel a little better. She wasn't going to forget Kerberos or Astrophyllite; quite the opposite, probably. She smiled at him and said, "I've already done the research. I know exactly where all the doctorate students hang out for their cheap, delicious alcohol, and I will be joining them." Avalon sighed, and looked deeper into the park. She ought to go out there and get some energy, hit her quota for the evening, something. Only... she didn't really feel like it. What would she lose by coming up short tonight? "It would be, wouldn't it," she sighed. "Run your ideas by Astrophyllite first, then. If she thinks it's stupid, it almost certainly is, and then you may imagine me slowly shaking my head at you."

Kerberos's smile became less playful and more affectionate when Avalon took one of his flowers. "I'll keep all that in mind," he said. Then, he let out a breath and stepped forward, pulling the General into a hug.
"Just promise me you'll be safe, okay? I really want you to actually come back and shake your head at me some more when I do stupid s**t."

"I'll be as safe as I ever am," she said, patting Kerberos gently on the back. "Don't even bother worrying. I'll be back before you know it."
