So far, her strategy of 'kill youma, hide from Negas by switching to civilian form' was working. The problem was that youma weren't really the only danger, and Negas didn't only come when they felt the weaker Chaos signatures (Avalon supposed that they must be able to tell; like, she could sense them, a little) go out. That was just when she looked for them.
This, unfortunately, left her wide open to being surprised. She hadn't found any youma, hadn't found any lieutenants doing something they shouldn't be, so really she was just wandering around because she didn't want to go to bed just yet. There was no sign of anything particularly... terrible going on, she could have been walking as a civilian, but it was nice to be Avalon. Power, she was learning, was very much a real thing that one could feel--or else she was just crazy.
Probably both. She decided this as she rounded a corner and spotted what her spidey-senses told her was definitely a Negaverser about her power level walking right towards her.
Well, too late to henshin down, anyone with any kind of logic would assume a single civilian walking down a side-street where a knight had just gone was in fact the knight. She turned to walk in the same direction, shoulders hunched forward, and hoped that the Captain behind her wasn't very good at reading auras.

Bismuthite was finding teamworkto be an iffy thing - sometimes it payed off, other times it didn't. This time it was going right. The other captain - some no name, really - had come to patrol with him. Having spied the Knight, or whatever she was, they had quickly set up a plan. Or, well, Bismuthite had, rather.
Either way, He'd sent out his decoy which was the Nega currently walking towards Avalon from behind. Herding the little sheep. All the while Bismuthite watched from above, kneeling with a hand on his loyal fox-like youma.
"Fanhir, let's go," Bismuthite said after telling the other Captain to wait on standby.
Leaping from the rooftop above, Bismuthite landed in front of Avalon, and Fanhir behind her. The grey youma growled and began to glow a vibrant pink at the edges, and secreting a rancid acid that made the ground it touched hiss.
"A knight of Earth," Bismuthite scoffed, seeing the symbol she wore, "What a joke. The true knights of Earth belong to the Negaverse, who work to cleanse the earth from the alien scum who call themselves senshi...."

Avalon brought herself to a sudden stop, fully conscious now of the Negaverse officer behind her, but also the one standing in front of her. How had she missed that? She would have to be more careful from now on--she could have slapped herself right then for missing the pink-clad Negaverser's approach. She could have, but she wouldn't, because such a thing wouldn't help her no matter what else she did. She very dearly did want to go home at the end of her patrol, after all. "That's funny, because I seem to recall the Negaverse only being good at cleansing the earth of innocent people," she said, unable to resist a pithy comeback; she'd regret that later. Regretted it right then, mostly, but also knew that if she pissed anyone off, it would be on her own head. "But I'll admit I've been out of the loop for a while, and things might have changed! So why don't you call off your friends behind me, and we can just go our separate ways." Even as she spoke, she settled herself into a more balanced stance; someone who took pains to trap another was certainly not going to let her go if she was reasonable about her request to leave. But, seriously, she had no ties to the senshi--she'd known Taranis so long ago--why should she work harder to defend them?...

"The price of gaining the power to bring about a greater good," he shrugged, "It isn't as if the senshi are without innocent blood on their hands as well. Long ago Earth was a peaceful place until the moon queen set her sights on it. All those senturies ago our queen was given the power the stop the moon queen from taking over. Well, not stop. Halt it for a while, really. Otherwise we wouldn't be here now. Now that the senshi have returned, however, it is up to us to put an end to their takeover. Permanently, this time." At least, that was the story he'd been told. "If you truly beleive in fighting for the well being of the Earth, then you should join us. We will give you direction, training, protection, a family. A place to belong," he coaxed. After all, was now the mission to bring as many as they could to their side? No doubt the other side felt the same, but.. "We can give you the answers about this war that the rest of your so called 'order' lacks. And so much more."

It wasn't that she wanted to be lured to the Negaverse, not really. But the things he promised, most were things Tate had always felt she lacked. Direction, well, she'd never done without that. She always had a goal, always had a place to be, barely left herself time to think about the far-flung future where she'd be… where she'd be what? She balled her hands into fists, slowly uncurled her fingers. But training. Protection. Family. Those were things she wanted, things she didn't have and probably wouldn't ever if her experiences in the White Moon were any indication. There was exactly Camelot. Everyone else was strangers, or she only saw them once, or--or any number of things, but nothing she truly wanted. Squabbles, really, that was all she knew for sure from the meetings she'd gone to--and then there were the answers she wanted. He probably didn't even know how tempting that was. And that was the worst part! She should be above this, should be able to come up with some pithy comeback (something pithier than oh yeah well at least I'm not a killer, because actually, hadn't she killed someone on the Surrounding?…). She fisted her hands again, tried to think of something, anything to say or do and the only thing she came up with was exactly what she did: she lunged forward, swinging one fist wildly for the Negaverser's face as she said, "Shut up!"

Bismuthite leapt to dodge the attack, smirk on his face.
"Is that all you have to say?"
Their mission now was to bring anyone to their side they could, and kill those who could not be persuaded. He wasn't irrational - he knew that just one meeting, just one little speech, would be enough. And if it was, well then, the person was too weak willed to be a member of the forces of Chaos.
"Please, tell me how many of your Order have your back? How many would walk through the fires of hell to rescue you, to bring you home, from the clutches of insanity?"
The BMC had given plenty of leverage for the Negaverse to use in terms of recruitment and persuasion. At least, if you employed Bismuthite's tactic of appealing to the target's sense of family. There were plenty of lonely souls in this fight. Ripe targets. The promise of filling that loneliness was the greatest allure...

"You really need to stop talking," seethed Avalon. It didn't matter, she told herself as she whirled to grab onto the pink Negaverser's coat. When the leather was in her hands, she gave it a yank. It didn't matter how many of them did or didn't have her back, Avalon had to do the right thing. Protect the civilians. Protect Earth. And if it kept her safe too, who cared? It was alright to be alone and scared sometimes, especially when you had no other choice--
She yanked on his coat again, one-handed. The other hand was balled into a fist headed straight for his solar plexus.

He didn't do much to avoid the punch - playing more the psychological fight than physical. He hunched over and coughed a bit but looked at Avalon with an amused grin after wards. He took her avoidance as a 'no' to his question.
"You don't have to be alone, you have a choice," He said, echoing her thoughts, despite the fact that he couldn't possibly know what she was thinking exactly. "And you'll never have to be afraid pf what your loved ones might suffer through...if you were to fall on the field of battle."
Because if you were part of the Negaverse, you didn't have to worry about being hunted down by their mighty forces and killed. That was exactly it - join the Negaverse or die. That was ALL it boiled down to.

Loved ones, at least, were a weak point Avalon didn't have. She had Parker, and she had Finn, and there was Kess--but none of them she could say she honestly loved. Liked, was concerned for, didn't want to die, but ever since she'd grown apart from Ladon there'd been no single civilian who defined her like he had. She still hissed at the implication that no senshi could ever hurt her. There were plenty of senshi who did their best to kill Negaverse agents and succeeded--she'd been on the Surrounding, she'd seen one senshi whip up a firestorm that burned so many others to a smoking crisp…
But to work as a team, towards a defined goal, to never have to deal with those clashing egos ever again…
"At what cost," she asked, his coat still balled in her fist. Her free hand was balled up so tight her nails felt like they'd carve into her own flesh but she wasn't moving to hit him again, just standing and not letting him go. "At what cost, Captain? My morals? My soul, what do I give for this amazing deal?"

"What wouldn't you give," Bismuthite began, "to see the world returned to peace and prosperity? To put an end to this war and once again live a normal life?" Because that was what they all wanted - to get their normal lives back, wasn't it? "Believe you me, there isn't one thing I wouldn't give to see an end to all of this, and more importantly, to see the one I love most never have to kill another of our enemies, or steal the energy of another civilian for the sake of satisfying the youma, so that they themselves don't take that energy or the civiliains very life for themself. True, we haven't been able to satisfy the hunger of all the youma that dwell within the Negaverse. That is part of the reason why we need more skilled, strong, recruits like yourself." It was almost indiscernible what was lie and what was truth, but Bismuthite was gifted in speech. Always had been. "In the beginning we had virtually no control of the deep hunger of the youma. we had no choice but to take the lives of the innocent to appease them and protect those that we could in doing so. You see, it's not something any of us wanted to do. We want to protect this planet and its people but sometimes.... Sometimes one must commit evils in order to achieve a greater good. I hope that you can understand that..." Again, there was plenty of lies in there, but Avalon didn't have to know that...yet. And now, now he put on a show of groveling for forgiveness in his attempt to lure the...squire? Was it? He swept up her hand that was balled in his coat in both of his own and took a knee, resting his forehead against the hands that held hers. "I pray you understand that it has not been an easy undertaking for any of us. My dearest Wolframite...I fear he has suffered far too much since this all began... Please, forgive us our evils, however necessary at the time, and see that our intentions are pure. The Earth should not be in the hands of beings who hail from distant worlds beyond, but those born of this Earth, heart and soul. It is our duty to protect it however we must." He then looked up at her with a dire expression. "I will not force a decision out of you right now. Think on it. Consider my offer. Our offer," he said, speaking for all the Negaverse, "and when you decide call upon me and I shall escort you on your way to become part of our family."

What wouldn't Avalon give? Her life, for one thing. She'd come too close too many times and had no desires to come any closer than she had before she'd returned to her Wonder and gained her wand… Once, she would have done anything to protect a civilian, but now pragmatism seemed to be her best bedmate. Would she give up her powers for a normal life? Her innate knowledge that she was untouchable, that she could stop any boring-a** mundane who came after her with the powers she'd been gifted by dint of bloodlines? The idea of being a recruit still repulsed her. She grabbed on to that with both hands, as the pink-clad Negaverser had latched on to hers, the fact that the idea of serving Zinkenite or whoever ruled in the Dark Kingdom made her stomach roll with revulsion and sick nausea. No choice but to take the lives of the innocent--to take her life? Once she'd felt Zinkenite's hand in her own chest. And Wolframite… And Wolframite what. He'd washed his hands of her. She extricated her hands from the Negaverser's, fell back more steps than strictly necessary. "Stop talking," she said; if the unknown Captain weren't lurking, if she couldn't hear the harsh breathing of the youma, she would have already run. "Please just let me go."

The youma was so close to Avalon that she could probably feel it's warm breath upon her. Fafnir was waiting, patiently, for an order that Bismuthite didn't intend to give. The poor youma would be absolutely disappointed - Avalon would have been such a tasty meal. Bismuthite stood back up and called to the youma. "Fafnir." The youma permed up and danced about on it's paws excitedly, ripe with expectation. "Stand down." Fafnir seemed to let out a whine, and sulked over to stand beside it's master. Bismuthite then turned his attention back to Avalon "Then go," he gestured to the alley exit.

Avalon tensed when the Negaverser spoke what had to be the youma's name; it didn't sound like a Negaverser's name, it--well, she'd google it, maybe. If she lived.
The pink-clad enemy told the monster to leave, and Avalon was only too glad to go, backing away slowly before turning and bolting from the alley.
