SOLO He couldn't fight the desire for nearness and stepped closer yet, hovering somewhere between reverent and obsessive. He didn't expect the darkness, driven back by the figure before him to coil and shift, growing once again until it was all that he knew. He tried to cry out in fear and alarm but his voice betrayed him, twisted into a voice that was not him now but him as he had been. The world was bright and cold, bright and cold and terrible, a giant in a white coat that towered over him and held him, took him out of the warmth and comfort, took him away and spoke of meaningless words, words like withdrawal and addiction, all he knew was fear and hurt and a terror of being seperate and alone where once he had been part of something whole and more. There had been warmth and safety so absolute it was almost impossible, and all it had done was to render the separation even more terrible than he could have ever imagined. He didn't want to face it, couldn't handle even to watch and to feel. And then there were wings. Soft, comfortable warm wings which took from him the memory he didn't want to hold, letting it drift into her hands with relief. It had been like carrying a white hot poker by the wrong end, he felt no attachment to it, only jarred surprise at it's intensity. As he stepped away with a reverent nod of gratitude, he found at least some of that sense of security he'd felt at first lingered like tendrils of fog. "Thank you." Quote: The eternal rain was almost a good thing, it meant that Reap stuck to the corners and sheltered shadows of the ruins, dodging the overflowing rusted gutters and making his way through the desolation of the once grand city like an insect crawling on the face of a derelict building. He wondered as he made his way through, killing and collecting incessantly, if there had ever been life in this place or if it had always been like this. Why memories flitted here and there through the landscape was also a mystery to him, along with whoever they might once have belonged to. He wasn’t sure how he felt about the goddess. She seemed kind, coming to him in times of need to take the pain away, leaving gentle oblivion in its wake. But was that cheating? Was pain what living was about? He didn’t feel very alive as he wandered, but in those flashes of words and thoughts, echoes of feeling, he felt, felt emotions like a crescendo that outshone even the plaza rollercoaster. It felt terrible most of the time, but it felt good. He wondered time and time again if the goddess meant well. The other question that occurred to him was the empty pedestals, the places he’d had to choose to leave a blessing. What had happened to those goddesses? Where were they? Had the other goddesses stolen all their memories and left nothing but the plaques that were once their name? Questions chased questions in his mind without answers or resolution, it was the reward for being blessed with a yellow heart – a dubious blessing indeed – sometimes he wished he didn’t know what questions to ask. He didn’t know where he was going or where ultimately the trail of death would lead, maybe one day he would just amass so many shiny things that he would just implode, that there would be no more weapons. Maybe one day there would be no more challenges, he’d just drift through the world without purpose. Maybe he’d lose his heart and become just another looted wanderer on the wasteland. There had to be more than this. There had to be, he could feel it deep in his very soul, in the echoes of habits and movements he didn’t understand, in the desires he felt more and more the clearer he became, the urge to reach out and touch – familiar easy movements. He wandered on, he felt like his main purpose was simply to dream of one day feeling whole.
