The whispered memories grew stronger in their suggestion, more insistent, as though they were nagging and helping (even when she didn't want their help), and even as they tried to rebuild everything she'd once been, Simmy still craved the approval that brought that specific feeling of fulfillment.

So when the Shrine called to her as it had before, she'd hurried to get there as soon as she possibly could, because the Goddess couldn't possibly approve of someone who was late when she needed them. Her steps grew slower and slower the closer she found herself, sluggish with the heavy burdens of worry and concern. Attributing anything but simplicity to the purpose she'd been instructed to uncover had been so important, and all along the way it felt as if she was doing something right...but she felt like she was arriving empty-handed, like there was a piece missing, like she couldn't present herself without it.

It was at the statue of her Goddess that she paused, lingering on the words she provided. She was only buying time. She'd depended on it far more than she probably should have, the acquisition of a longer existence in the comfort of knowing what it felt like; there was hardly any time left now, but she knew that she had what she needed to carry on.

Somewhere.

She stepped through the fog and into the silence, past memories of a broken her that she didn't need now. She found the place the door waited for her -- and tugged on the arm of someone else she'd found waiting there too.

"Hey," she mumbled in greeting. It looked like it hurt for her to smile now. "You promised."

She heard the call, and she came with fluttering wings. Daaiji looked up at the three statues in the middle of the room, then at the empty podiums. Soft laughter as she didn’t bother to read the plaques and opted to walk forward. She felt the mist shift, but she headed for the door with surprisingly certainty. Offer us your Heart the door read. Lips tugged into a girl. We’ll see. She passed through the door.

Silence. Daaiji narrowed her eyes at the statues. Sacrifice yourself for us. She hummed, turning toward her fellow shadows. Suddenly, she stopped. She stared. Their emanating Hearts are comforting, warm. She realized that these were the same people whom she had shared her memories with and they had shared theirs with hers. Now her heart was..She looked down at the swirling golds and blues swimming in her core. “Ah.” Something in her mind clicked, gears sliding back together as memories tumbled back. Some were happy, and others still were sad, bitter.

A word at the tip of her tongue. Her name. Her eyes grew wide. Her name—

The floor shook, cracked open and when she looked up she saw burning red. She closed her eyes, but all she saw was more red while the voice echoed in her ears. A couple more voices rang, and when the flaming red subsided, she looked up to see twining green and gold embellishments. What would she choose? She hummed before staring at the bright red.

What sense of calm that Ralifa had achieved was perhaps soon washed away with this next task. Anxiety, fear, pride? She was on her way to becoming a Goddess, it was so close she could feel it.

When entering the room she noted how quiet it was. Even her foot steps barely made a noise to be echoed off the wall. There in front of her a door. Ornate with a simple message. Hadn't she already given her heart many times over?

But she was beckoned further, moving to the next room it looked the same as the one before. But the colors had shifted. The same Goddesses and the same empty pedestals. With a bit more observation she began to see simple figures appear, like her, the were familiar. They had shared many things together. For some reason she looked down at her heart, it was pulsing a big deeper now. But now she could see that it wasn't just the red it had ultimately started off being. There were many colors that swirled within it.

Ralifa was changing. More away of herself.

She gripped her head as memories that were once taken began to return. The were spinning around in her head, making little sense. And all she could do was hold on for the ride. It was almost too much for her to bare as she took to one knee, still clutching her head.

"S...stop!" A name, oh god a name! It was there in her dreams, chewed on her ears, teased and danced away from her. She could not remember this name!

The floor shook, the red moon rose. Strange. It looked as about as changed as she did. An odd expression on it's face. It's red color soon consumed everything, but not long there was gold and green. Twisting and fighting the red and each other. The world became splashed with greenery and golden castles as far as the eye could see.

The voice that spoke next, it burned the words into her mind. Seared it to memory. A Queen once? She did not understand. What had any of this to do with her? Her heart once again they wanted her heart. They wanted to take it. But she knew deep down inside that giving her heart would be the only way she could escape here.

Ralifa just wanted to go to where they were.

Slowly she began to walk. But which path to choose. So much to give up for so little she had learned. The name she felt she would never find. Looking to the sky, she waited for the answer to come. But she could not see it in this churning sea of madness. No great light would illuminate the darkness and point the way out for her.

She had to make this decision on her own.

And so she did. Ralifa made her choice. She chose Creation. It called to her the strongest. While she could not understand entirely why this called to her, she had a feeling she would find out soon enough.

Placing a hand to her heart, it's light warmed her hand and filtered through thin fingers, she took a step forward. Fingers slipped around her heart as she began to break it away. The pain was jolting. Ralifa had hoped it would be painless but it seemed not. Another tug, another memory. Harder, another. Until finally she ripped it out. She gasped in shock as it felt as if her entire being had just been snatched away, held tightly in her hand as it pulsed and glowed.

The right choice. The end. Brief memories flickered in front of her eyes as she finally offered up her heart. The weight of it too heavy for her to bare anymore as she struggled to keep herself together. But it was a difficult thing as every memory began to flood away. Old and new, they left her one by one.

Ralifa closed her eyes.....

Manthas sat on a rock, her core was multi-tinted, only slightly so from only following two of the Goddess' tasks. When she wasn't doing that she had lurked silently in the realm of Ruin's domain. She felt out of place, alien compared to the others.

Mostly she felt scared.

Others seemed so much more sure of themselves while she was still trying to sort out what was real and what wasn't. The memories came back, the guilt of having hurt a shadow, a figure of someone she had clearly cared about. The memory of that person comforting them after the death of another.

Again Manthas looked up, her body language anything but secure in her feelings. "What if we don't have anything to offer? What if our hearts too small..." She looked down at her chest again a sense of guilt re-newed.

Take take take take taketaketaketaketake. When were they going to get something? She walked with an irritated drag in her step, limbs held close to her to contain the spasms of anger she was holding in. The sudden flood of memories didn't still her enraged walk either - it should have. It should have made her realize her folly in being upset to have something.

But they had taken those from her only to give them back. They were hers and they'd stolen them. She seethed up at that red moon as it looked down her, her gaze unyielding back up at it, baring her teeth up at it as the voices seemed to fill her.

Yet somehow there was a small amount of peace that came as the sky cracked with colors, that rage that made attempt to consume her pulling back for just a moment. Only a moment, before the anger - fresh and now her own - came back. Give when you have gained so little? HA! It was a joke. An awful, cosmic joke.

It pulled at the back of her mind, though. Something. Something that was a part of her - what was it, what are you, tell me, tell me, tell me..... no, you won't tell me, TELL ME
Tell me, tell me TELL ME Nothing. It didn't speak, it just lingered and watched her quietly. Just far enough a way she couldn't grab it.

Yet she was still left at a decision - to sacrifice. She didn't want to. She didn't want to give it to anything. Any of them. It was hers. It was hers.

"I hope your boat sinks" she hissed under her breath as she pulled her heart out - hesitation giving way to bitter anger as she threw it down to that awful Red Crown. She hated you the most - why was she giving it to you? She hated you more than the most she didn't know why. Maybe she just hated the color red. No. Yes. No. Yes.

She wasn't sure if it shattered. Her chest hurt, the pain becoming more and more real as memories began to break away from her. They played out in what was perhaps a moment, but they felt longer than that. But only that long. Only just long enough.

Honestly, she just wanted to be gone.

Trebor's fist banged against the door, just once, before he heard her voice.

"Simmy." He breathed it like a sigh of relief, saying it before he'd even turned around to see her. Because of course it was her. He'd only made one promise.

"I'm glad you found me again. I feel like. Like I tend to get lost too easy." His arm wrapped easily around her waist, pulling her in. "I'm lost right now, actually." He chuckled, leaning against the doorway. "Y'see, I've been rememberin' some things. But nothin's making a lot of sense. And I can tell this thing here - " His thumb jerked back beyond the doorway. "Well, that's the end of the road, ain't it? But I know I was supposed to do something. Or find something. And." He tugged on her pigtails softly, and wished he could say he had. "I just don't know if I'm ready to give myself up yet."

His eyes flickered, distracted by something unheard and unseen. But they turned back to her quickly enough, that easy smile quirking for her. "What about you, sugar? Am I about to lose you, too?"

Sacrifice memories, sacrifice himself; the leap didn't feel so big anymore. Maybe that was the point of all those tasks. Maybe the rite for divinity was a sham and they were still having to swallow it.

Or the color explosion that occurred as beings beyond his comprehension crashed.

So now everything was going to hell, a concept Ortam was beginning to get familiar with now that he was very, very painfully aware of his own existence. Memories and colors and an awful, screeching voice that made him sick to his insides to listen to barraged him. Malevolence was not in his nature; poison still affected him, regardless of the fact that he was, technically insubstantial.

Regardless, he had a very, very strong tug in his heart at the battle of colors. He already knew where he would end up by instinct, but . . . The fellow glanced about just in case--aha.

"There you are!" he greeted rather amicably (perhaps too bright for the occasion) as he approached Annabell, unable to hide how shaken he was about this turn of events nor how relieved he was to see her in one piece. "I was wondering if you were okay."

It seemed more tantamount to check on her than to understand the jumble of memories filling in his mind.

And somehow that was what he'd needed to hear, the choking fear held at bay by that simple reply. And he thought of the wall, thought of the plaques the goddesses had stood upon when he arrived.

A wall does not protect, a wall can only buy you time. A wall can only give you what you need to carry on.

Being able to carry on was more important than being safe, than knowing exactly what you faced. Iron was his wall - a memory had called it his moon - and he needed him. Reap needed him in a helpless and embarrassingly dependent sort of way, aware that without him he spiralled pathetically, sunk into a mire of his own fury and hatred. Iron kept him aloft.

"I feel like - like red is the way - what we deserve." he repeated. He took his hand in his own. "But I won't leave you either. If there's somewhere you'd rather be. I'll be there too, I just.. Without you I just. Died. And died. And died. I broke apart." he shook his head. "I need to be thegither."

Maybe just going now was a good idea. There were others lingering and others going and it was really just a matter of getting it done and over with, right? Annabell took a breath and heard someone chirp next to her. The scene felt far too dark for such a cheery greeting, but she turned to the person with a neutral expression and was surprised to find it change to a soft smile.
"Look at you. You have learned to smile." She replied softly, unfolding her arms as she took a step toward him. "I am glad to see you one last time." And how odd that was. There was something familiar about him, there was, but she couldn't be certain of it. Part of it felt like something more, but she had seen him so many times here in this place that she doubted herself. Maybe he felt the same? Maybe she should ask?

Instead her eyes found their options, looking them over one last time before she turned back to face him.
"Do you know what you'll choose yet?" And wasn't that the big question on everyone's mind? Wasn't that the reason so many others had lingered, why she had not gone yet?

For an unknown reason he thought to occupy her space, to take her uncrossed arms a sign that he should just go over there and . . . hug her or something. "Mmhmm~" he hummed with a nod and the aforementioned smile, but stayed in place because of doubts. "But don't say one last time. Maybe there's something after all of this."

He wasn't comfortable with the idea of what goddesses did to people who were not interested in becoming powerful statues. This was his way of stalling, honestly.

"Yes, I think I know what to choose." He turned his eyes skyward for a moment, amazed by the tri-colored war going on, before falling back to Annabell. "It feels simple enough. Do you know?"

Denise, resplendent in her wedding gown.

Denise, then a stranger, at her neatly organized desk.

Denise, hollow-eyed and gaunt, clutching a pair of sharp scissors -

The memories came faster now, and Shaw's vision was swallowed by the multi-hued heart emanating from his chest, overwhelmed; drowning -

He coughed up black water -

-his father's voice sounded tired, disappointed. "Son-"

-he tore the letter in short, sure strokes, sometimes it was time to let go -

- she lay there, her raven hair spread across the pillow, form still besides the rise and fall of her breath, and she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen-

-the shadows waited for him there, at the top of that long ladder. He ran.

He came to eventually, face buried in his hands. He felt dizzy, overwhelmed. It had been so easy, to forget, and so hard to remember. So much simpler to exist as a vessel designed with a single goal, a singular purpose. He was Shaw, and he was not, he was someone else trapped in Shaw's body -

But still he could not remember who.

Then searing hot images filled his mind, images of a moon and a violent swirl of gold and red and green, and words that made his teeth ache and his heart stop -

And slowly that too faded, until he was left small and alone, with the knowledge that he was not who he thought he was. He felt himself move forward, almost against his will - and for a time, he stared resolutely at his own feet.

Finally, Shaw looked up and watched the realization dawn on the faces of other shadows, and felt lost. Without hope. If that tired man in the mirror was him - why had he left? What was there in this place, but broken things? He'd killed her, he realized with slow horror; he'd killed Denise, here in this world of shadows. Stolen her heart and then he'd forgotten, allowed himself to forget -

her flashing, bright blue eyes-

But there was someone else in his memories too. More recent, fresh; real. He grunted, climbing slowly to his feet. He remembered that face. He looked around slowly, scanning the crowd gathered. He had to find her.

"Shasa?"

The name sounded almost right.

Tiletk had gone with Fayre through those doors.

The Goddesses stood there urging them for sacrifices and he could do one thing and that was smile. Even when the skies filled with red and the voice began with threatening tones, tones that he drowned out because the violence in them did not interest him even as it consumed him. He'd have gone along with it if it had come to it but he didn't have to.

Visions of red sky, green sky, and golden sky didn't really fascinate him as much either. Not as much as they could have, what mattered to him now was that he had a choice. When he and Fayre made it to their destination he stared at her. It has to be quick.

All he could think to do was nod a short curt nod of agreement. Memories swirled around in his head. An alienated sibling glaring at him. A small joy in his tiny arms. Puppy love lost...

He ignored the aching loneliness of her hand not being in his.

If he wanted to protest - it was too late. His eyes blankly stared at her - still smiling as if in a maniac reaction to the grief that he may have felt inside but didn't cry out. This would make them better. This would make them all better. His hand reached up to his core and he began to tear it out without hesitation. It wasn't that she fell there. It was because it felt right. He was Pride. Pride would make him stronger. Pride would give him the power he needed even in his end. With what strength he had he put his heart on the gold pedestal. Eventually slumped against the object that held sacrifices as he gently as possible pulled Fayre's body onto his lap to cradle what was left of her in his arms even as he faded, soft strains of a melody weakly left his throat as he hummed a lullaby for them both until eventually the sound was silenced.

Not aware of his thoughts, the girl took another step closer to him, finding an odd comfort under his shadow despite what waited for them. The colors beckoned for an answer, were surely getting restless with all this waiting. But for a few moments, it didn't matter. Not going alone seemed far more important.
A small laugh left her at his words, her smile getting a bit larger.
"I do believe that is my line." Where had all her optimism gone? "But I would like to believe you are right. I will be terribly upset if I do not get to see you or that smile again." He had worked so hard for it, after all.

Curiosity made her follow his gaze, study it for hopes of a hint. It wasn't that his choice would change her mind, but it would certainly offer a deal of comfort.
"Yes." But she did not want to say it, just in case even honestly recognizing it would make it happen before she was ready. "It is a rather simple thing, isn't it?" It should be, at least. But none of it had been simple, and what came next certainly wouldn't be either. But... That was the fun part. Learning something and finding what lay past the next door. It could be enjoyable at the end. "You've done very well, you know."

It was the Shrine. It was always the Shrine. It felt like everything important happened here. Acerola recognized the three statues of the Goddesses of Ruin, Paranoia, and Longing. She walked up to them, and looked at them. Nothing seemed different about them. They were always the same as always when they were statues. She also took a glance at the plaques because those seemed to be the only thing that changed.

The Final Trial. Not forgotten. The Wall. Carrying on. Memories. Sacrifice. For "us". For the Goddesses.

That was what they said.

She saw the typical empty pedestals with their empty plaques. Nothing new. But there was a magnificent door standing there. The multicolored door seemed to call to her, and she couldn't stop herself from approaching it. Fog cascaded from around it, swirling, and then disappearing. She slowly walked up to the door and pushed it open.

The room was like the one she had just been in. Everything was in the same place. Everything was the same....except the Goddess' statues were...different. Acerola had to stare intently at each one before she realized that they were an unusual color. Ruin had stayed red, but there was a scythe and tail added. Paranoia had become blue and there were wires everywhere. Longing had become purple....and were those flowers and an apron?

And then she saw it. Figures just like her, with hearts, just like hers. Except hers was now swirling with the many colors that came with the many memories she had obtained. And then she remembered.

The Tasks. Everything she had done. Scissors. Ripping out hearts. Ironically, she was about to do the same with hers. While she was deep in thought, something seemed to want to burst out of her memories. A word or two, maybe? It was on the tip of her tongue....but she couldn't. She tried desperately, feeling incomplete without whatever she was trying to remember.

The sky shifted...the moon spoke. And the the red sky becomes green and gold as well.

And then, a choice. Acerola knew from the beginning what she was going to pick. Destruction, with all of it's chaotic splendor. To make those who went against her suffer. She took deep breath, before plunging her hand deep into her chest cavity and ripping out her Heart. She placed it with Destruction.

The pain was unimaginable. Of course...there was no center. And the middle was what kept everything in place. Things seemed to flow out....people shouting a name....a name she had been itching to recall.

But it was too late, she was fading away, and then she was gone.

Character name: Acerola
