Well what else was there supposed to be? What kind of question was that? You went on moving forward. Stopping was about the same as going backwards.
But he, too, felt the unfulfilled pit- something...knowing, knowing more, being safe, filled the gnaw, but-
Alone (at first), Ironshare plunged his weapon into the chaotic, blinking screen. There was another shadow, and he tensed. ...More than one? No. An Other, somebody with a heart.
Maybe they'd know.
"Is this all there is?" He asked them. "Getting stronger?"

Remye had been drawn to the battle first by chance and then by the sound of... a weapon? She ventured forward in time to see the beeping, clicking machine, her lip curling back slightly at the sight of an enemy. But the fighter with the weapon had addressed her, his core clearly marking him as Friend, or at least Not Foe.
"I feel like," She said as she struck at the creature, aiming a sharp kick at it. "Maybe we're being prepared for something." She admitted, looking to him again. "Something... bigger than all this."
She shrugged, though, looking down at it and grimacing. "There has to be more than just this."

"I think it means that we're screwed." Remye said without remorse, and the frustration of that, of somehow not being good enough for the Goddess's task, whatever it was, only made her nearly miss her hitting the creature's screen.
At least she'd done some miniscule damage.
She looked over to him, frowning. "Friend?" The concept seemed... unclear to her.
There were those you fought with briefly, before moving on, but so far she had travelled alone, exploring things on her own and focusing all of her attention on the Tasks, rather than those completing it alongside her.

"Screwed," he repeated grimly, chewing that over.
At the other, he said, "Yeah, it's like- somebody you have a lot of good feelings with. Like, when you're alone, you're less safe. You don't get to see or know as much. But with a friend, you're safer. They help you figure out things you wouldn't have. You're stronger. And, if something happens to you, like if you break apart, it matters to them. And it's the same the other way around. A person like that."

Like he had done with the screwed comment, Remye was silent for a minute, considering the idea of friend in a place like this. She nodded a little finally, smiling.
"Don't lose that." She said, looking up. "I feel like... This place makes us lose things." It was a hunch and a haphazard, barely-there thought, but something felt... wrong, somehow. Empty. She couldn't shake the feeling that something had been forgotten, something she needed to remember.
It wasn't how to fight, at least. She aimed a well-placed whack at the boss, doing a fair bit of damage in that go.

"Yeah, I noticed that." He paused, then lowered his voice.
"You oughta be careful. The goddesses, they're the strongest ones here. And they keep wanting things from us- voices, and pictures, and parts. I mean, we haven't figured out why it's useful. But they've got to want those things for a reason, right?"

Remye leaned forward, slightly, her shadowy ears swivelling some to focus on him. She nodded a little, swallowing, as his warning settled around her.
"I hope," She said after a long minute, leaning back. "That whatever that reason is... It's a good one." She swallowed, and glared at the creature as it loomed too close, aiming a kick to move it away but missing entirely. "They're supposed to protect us. Right?" She looked back to Ironshare, swallowing. "They have to."
She didn't want to consider the alternative, that what she'd done was for something far darker.

Wherever Iron went, Reap was rarely very far behind. He was armed with a whole new weapon and was more than happy to actually use it. He'd been doing a lot of stabbing lately, he'd been getting pretty good at fixing these computer guys on a very permanent basis.
He eyed the strangers with a very manic and predatory glare and didn't say anything as he jammed the sword through the already weakened creature.

"Not to say they're bad. Just that they know more than we do. So it doesn't hurt to pay attention to what they think's valuable."
Ironshare grinned as Reap showed up, cleaving the creature in two in an easy and effortless stroke. He then bent to pick out two objects, shuffling them around in his palm.
"Hey," he said. Maybe there was something else. Closer to what he'd said about friends. He could almost get his mind around it...
Maybe he ought to visit the shrine, in case it was something the goddess could tell him.

The addition to their party was stoic and... Scary, for reasons Remye wasn't quite certain of. She shrunk back, but didn't flee, watching the computer crumble before returning her attention to Ironshare.
She nodded slightly at that, watching as two things fell and reaching down to collect them.
She looked back at the two of them. "Your friend, right?" She asked, mostly going on the way Ironshare had reacted to the sudden arrival. She smiled a bit. "Don't lose him." She reminded, taking her loot and stepping back. Perhaps it was worth a visit to the shrine. She might find something of value, there.

Reap gave Reymye a slightly more curious and soft look for her words before looking back to Iron with a raised brow. He didn't know what he'd told the other, but didn't hazard to ask.
Instead he simply gathered more of the shinies from the fallen.
