In the subway the darkness was not fearful, the shadows deepened and shifted at whim and he could not tell if there were others with him or if he was alone. Even the faint glimpse of passing yellow lights could almost be dismissed as tricks of his mind, flying in the face of the energy in his chest.
Energy which steadily began to thrum, a low soft pulse which made it flicker worryingly. He reached up a shadow trailing hand to press against his unsteady core and fixed his attention on the yellow eyes in the shadows, muscles coiling set to pounce again. But there was no chance to attack, no reason to as the goddess materialised before him.
His standoffishness seemed to melt away as he cautiously stepped forward, a deep seated craving urging him forward, closer and closer, basking in the warmth and safety of the goddess before him, the proximity leaving him almost rent asunder by some deep buried void in him that yearned for that feeling of security. He wanted to stay there forever, to just leech off of the closeness like a drug.

Out in the charred shell of what had once been a shop, a single shard floated, as if it had been waiting there for him. Rojand stretched his hand out and caught it.
"Are you okay?"
He blinked. It was almost as though the shard had been asking him. But he had five now. He could go to the shrine and return them to the goddess.

The fragment brushed through her mind and disappeared, leaving her looking confused for only a moment. What a weird thing, eyescream. Oh well. Her eyes focused again and turned to look at Ryjer, however apologetically. "The next one's yours, okay?" She promised, already looking around for one for him.
"How about that one?" A shadowy hand lifted to point to one not too far from them. "You go around this time, and I'll try to get it to you?"

He couldn't fight the desire for nearness and stepped closer yet, hovering somewhere between reverent and obsessive.
He didn't expect the darkness, driven back by the figure before him to coil and shift, growing once again until it was all that he knew. He tried to cry out in fear and alarm but his voice betrayed him, twisted into a voice that was not him now but him as he had been.
The world was bright and cold, bright and cold and terrible, a giant in a white coat that towered over him and held him, took him out of the warmth and comfort, took him away and spoke of meaningless words, words like withdrawal and addiction, all he knew was fear and hurt and a terror of being seperate and alone where once he had been part of something whole and more. There had been warmth and safety so absolute it was almost impossible, and all it had done was to render the separation even more terrible than he could have ever imagined. He didn't want to face it, couldn't handle even to watch and to feel.
And then there were wings. Soft, comfortable warm wings which took from him the memory he didn't want to hold, letting it drift into her hands with relief. It had been like carrying a white hot poker by the wrong end, he felt no attachment to it, only jarred surprise at it's intensity.
As he stepped away with a reverent nod of gratitude, he found at least some of that sense of security he'd felt at first lingered like tendrils of fog.

Perking up at the voice, Vae stared at the one who had spoken for a moment before shrugging, folding her arms across her chest. "Your guess is probably as good as any of ours. I don't think any of us really have a clear idea of what is going on here. I certainly don't, at least." She turned to her their surroundings for the billionth time before turning back to the two figures, cocking her head to the side.
"I'm Vae," She offered, lifting a hand and waving, "And that's about the extent of what I can tell you about myself."

Zauus waved a small hand as her friend left to hand in her shards. She should do the same before she were to lose them or get lost herself. Everywhere looked the same to her. Or maybe it was just because she didn't pay attention to her surroundings. She headed off, seeing that the door was open for the girl with the braid. She gave a small wave, unknowing if the other girl saw it.

The subway darkens with a sigh and the soft sound of wings, beating like a heart. When light returns once more, the Goddess is gone.
Ryjer didn't need to be told twice, looking somewhat rediculous as he did his best to 'creep up' on one of the little glowing fragments.
He crouched.
He sprang!
He tumbled across pavement with the thing clutched to his chest.
It won't hurt you, bubula...
He stiffened, but straightened once the words drifted away again. "I'm... I'm getting quite the collection! Ahahahah!"

Aima looked at the one who had fallen in with her with a look of despair. "Now we are both trapped. You have accomplished nothing."

The sensation of gathering dark, feathers stroking through air, stopped Rojand as he emerged from the shrine. Was the goddess here? Light returned, and left empty air. She wasn't here. Perhaps she was in the shrine. Perhaps she had been there all along, and it was only his imagination.
He sighed and picked his way up the stairs, out into the overcast light and the flickering red glow of neon.
