Alek is vastly more comfortable when he is alone or interacting with one or two other people than he is in a group. In fact, if there are too many others around, he will lock up completely, retreating somewhere safe inside his head even if he is not being directly addressed. This has only gotten worse in recent years, but if he were to actually take the time to work on it, he might return to his former levels of tolerance.

- clingy
When he has been around a person long enough to trust him, Alek's shy nature tends to turn desperate and he latches on to them with a ferocious tenacity. In his opinion, those he isn't afraid of will surely protect him, and there's a lot he needs protecting from, at least as far as he's concerned.

+ creative
Nothing soothes Alek more quickly and thoroughly than creative pursuits, though, to be fair, he only really has a knack for musical instruments. He even briefly entertained the idea of becoming a bard, but when he realized he couldn't exactly defend himself with a lute, that dream fell by the wayside. Despite his questionable skills in painting, singing, and dancing, he will engage in them eagerly enough if he trusts the ones he's with.

+ polite
If there is one thing Alek is above all else, it is polite. This trait serves him well with those he cares for as well as those who might seek to do him harm, and it is his first line of defense against the world.

old but relevant

For most of his young life, Alek was the calm, cautious sort, deferring to his elders and relying on them to watch over him. He was content to let them guide him in any way they saw fit, and he was right on the verge of choosing to become a mage at their behest when his life changed in a way he could have never anticipated.

Following his brief, violent abduction a year and a half ago (ooc: 2/2013), Alek has become mistrustful of almost everyone who enters his life anew, while conversely latching onto those he trusts all the more fiercely. Oddly enough, the one family member he should have clung to after his ordeal he has not. Alek holds Kayin at arm's length, convinced that sharing his discomfort and fear with her will burden her unnecessarily and keep her from achieving great things.
