The Guild's Stickies

This is a list of all the stickies in the guild as of now, and a quick explanation for each one. It's meant to help people who aren't sure where to post their question, make a post, etc.

Please read the post below this one to find out where each sticky is located, because they've been redirected to the different subforums now. 3nodding

Note: Some stickies have been posted in two subforums, to make sure people will see them. If a sticky has been copied into another subforum, both are the same. If someone notices a change in the two stickies (in case I accidently forgot to update one), please PM me to let me know.

Abortion/Loss Discussion Sticky
Meant for people who have had an abortion, who know someone who's had an abortion, who have lost a child, or wish to sympathize with people on any of these subjects. Please read the warning in the first post of the sticky, as I am particularly strict about the discussion stickies, and be sure to follow its rules.
Location: The Miscarriage & Abortion Subforum.


Abortion Information & Resources Sticky (formerly the "Abortion & Post-Abortion Info and Resources Sticky") [JUST ADDED!]
Contains accurate, unbiased information about abortion. Several pamphlets from previous stickies have been copied over, including the one about post-abortion syndrome (PAS). There's a post with some internet resources, including links for women who had an abortion with no regrets.

Abstinence Sticky
A sticky with information about abstinence and abstinence methods such as purity rings, vows and pledges. Also has questions to help you decide if abstinence is right for you.
Location: The Sex Subforum.


Abuse Sticky
A sticky that covers different types of abuse, and gives information on how to spot the signs, and what to do if you're being abused. Includes resources and a place to report abuse if you or someone else you know is being abused.
Location: The Rape & Abuse Subforum.


Additional Mental Illness Information Sticky
A sticky with information about depression, psychosis, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and many pamphlets relating to mental illness and how people can cope and recover.
Location: The Depression and Other Mental Health Issues Subforum.


Alcohol Abuse and Binge-Drinking Information Sticky (replacing the former "Alcohol Abuse Sticky")
A sticky with information about alcohol abuse (what it is, how to get help, etc) and supportive links for people who have a problem with alcohol, or who know someone who does.Also added is information about binge-drinking, and how to help someone you know who may have a problem with binge-drinking.

Alternatives to Sex Sticky [Link goes to the Puberty Subforum one]
A sticky for couples who are looking to be intimate with each other, without having sex or oral sex. Includes suggestions such as backrubs, massages, touching, kissing, dry humping, etc.

All About Pregnancy Tests Sticky
A sticky with information about pregnancy tests, and a FAQ borrowed from PeeOnAStick.com.

Autism Sticky
Information, help and resources for people who have autism, or who know someone who has autism.
Location: The Depression and Other Mental Health Issues Subforum.

Baby Name Discussion Sticky
A sticky for members to discuss their favourite and least favourite baby names, names they've given their kids, names for their future kids, and so on.
Location: The Pregnancy Subforum.


Baby Q & A + Info Sticky
People who have questions about babies or child care can ask them here. A guild member runs the sticky, so you can post your questions in the sticky, or PM her a question as long as the guild captain (me) is contacted first. (I don't want her to be swamped with PM's, hence the asking me first) Information about babies and common questions are also posted (how do you change a diaper, how do you warm up a bottle, etc).

Banner Sticky
The guild's banner sticky, where you can find all the banners made for the guild. Some are meant for signatures, others are larger. If you'd like to help us out and advertise the guild, this is your place to look.

Being a Teenager Sticky
A sticky with excerpts from a teen advice book with answers to questions about home life, friends, dating, kissing, sex, and other issues many teenagers have to deal with.

Books for Teens Sticky
While some members might remember my original book sticky, this is a special one for teenagers. Members can contribute their favourite books, and I'll add them to the first post.

Breastfeeding Info Sticky [JUST UPDATED!]
A sticky with information for mothers (especially teen moms) about breastfeeding tips and information, advice, and helpful links. Also contains information on what medications to avoid during pregnancy.

Breast Cancer Sticky
Information about breast cancer, symptoms, treatment options, and recovery. Also describes how to give yourself a breast exam.

A sticky with information (symptoms, treatment, recovery, etc) about many different types of cancer.

Cancer Loss/Support Sticky
A sticky for people to talk and support each other if they've had cancer, if they have it now, or know someone who has/had it.

Common Pregnancy and Contraception Myths Sticky
Meant to dispell myths associated with how women get pregnant, methods to prevent pregnancy, etc. Feel free to post in the sticky something you might've heard/read somewhere, and I will add it to the list.

Complete Condom Information Sticky [formerly known as The Condom Sticky] [JUST ADDED!]
A sticky with information about what condoms are, how to use both a male and female condom correctly, and information about the different types and brands of condoms available. Also includes information about the cost and accessibility of condoms, and what types of "accessories" can be used with condoms.

Date Rape Sticky
A sticky with information and resources for people wanting to know more/who have experienced date rape or acquaintance rape.

Dating Sticky
A sticky for people who ask a lot of questions related to dating, problems with a boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. Included in its topics are: dating ideas; the pro's and con's of internet dating, and other things to be careful of when having an online relationship; additional tidbits about dating; articles about dating; and discussion of age and maturity differences in relationships that have a large age gap.

Depression Sticky
Contains several articles and lists of information to do with depression.

Drugs, Alcohol and You Sticky
A sticky with more pamphlets and information on drug use, alcohol abuse, and hangovers.

Drugs and Addiction: Facts You Need to KnowSticky
A modern sticky with information about drugs and addiction. Geared towards teenagers, and contains resources for the Southern/Central portions of BC (Canada).

A sticky with information on several of the "main" types of eating disorders, and a few resources.

A sticky where guild members can share their stories of dealing with and/or overcoming addiction in its many forms.

Father-To-Be Sticky
A sticky with book excerpts from a parenting book geared towards first-time fathers.

Feedback Sticky
A place for guild members to come and post about what they love/hate about the guild, and to post suggestions for things they'd like to see added/removed.

Fertility and Gynecology Sticky
Currently houses an article, and the old "Woman's First Pap Smear and Pelvic Exam" sticky (a sticky with information about a female's first pap smear, pelvic exam, and breast exam. Included are websites with information, and personal experiences from myself and other guild members).

A sticky for females with information on finding the right bra size, gynecological exams, and the averages for a woman's anatomy.

Guys' Sticky
A sticky for males with information on prostate exams and the averages for a man's anatomy.

Having Sex For the First Time Sticky [Link goes to the Puberty Subforum one]
A sticky with information on what to expect when having sex for the first time. Covers issues such as pain, bleeding, STD's, and knowing your stuff before actually having intercourse with one's partner.
Update: This now contains information on how to deal with pressure from a partner to have sex. See the third post.

Healthy Eating, Dieting and Exercising Sticky
A sticky with information on how to eat healthy, diet safely, and exercising adequately. Full of lots of nutritional information and some good recipies.

Healthy Relationships Sticky
A sticky with information on the ingredients of a healthy friendship/relationship. Goes over trust, respect, communication and honesty, and the roles each one plays in a relationship, including sexual ones.

Helpful Links Sticky
A sticky with information about common fertility and gynecology problems. Kind of under construction, since there isn't much in it right now.

Heterosexuality/LBGT Discussion Sticky
A sticky for the discussion of homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality, transgendered people,gay marriage, and anything related to those topics. As of 12/29/08, this sticky has been edited and now is a place for people to discuss bisexuality and trans-sexuality, as well as any other types of gender identity and sexual orientation.

How To Deal With an Abusive Partner or Spouse Sticky
Information on how to detect if you're in an abusive relationship or not, and how to get out of one if you are in one. Also lists warnings signs to look out for, how to get help, etc.

HPV & Gardasil Sticky
Information on HPV and its complications and on Gardasil, a new injection that's aimed at preventing 4 types of HPV that can cause things like cervical cancer and genital warts.

(aka the "Let's Talk About Sex Sticky")
A sticky for parents who have teenagers who are curious about their sexuality, who are sexually active/thinking about becoming sexually active, and so on. People who aren't parents themselves but are still curious about the sticky's contents are welcome to take a look.
Location: The Parenting Subforum.


Life Experiences Sticky
Meant for people to tell people their story (if they're pregnant, if they're planning to get pregnant, their sexual history, plans for the future, etc), or a little bit about their general history. No pressure to post if members are not comfortable with it, it's just for people who feel like sharing their story with someone.

Links and Recommended Readings Sticky
A long list of sites both on and off of Gaia which might be useful. Included are links to several guilds, information threads, and booklists for different topics. If you have a link that you think should be added, post it in the sticky, and it will be added.

Massive HIV & AIDS Information Sticky [formerly known as The HIV and AIDS Info Sticky] [JUST ADDED!]
A sticky with up-to-date information on HIV & AIDS, including what it is, how it is passed from person-to-person, what the symptoms are, health outcomes and expectations for persons with HIV & AIDS, and so on and so forth.
Location: The Birth Control and Condom Subforum.


Master STI Information Sticky [JUST ADDED!]
This sticky has tons of information on STIs (sexually transmitted infections). I added all the information from the previous STD stickies, and there's some new stuff in here too, including a downloadable pamphlet on STIs from Health Canada!

Masturbation Sticky
An informative sticky with masturbation info for both males and female. Included are different techniques, methods, and reasons for masturbation. If you have any questions relating to masturbation, post them here. All questions or threads relating to masturbation are to go here.

Men's and Women's Health Sticky
A sticky consisting of 3 pamphlets: one on women's general health, one on men's sexual health, and a new one on young women's sexual health.

Menstruation Sticky
A sticky with information on a female's period, signs of puberty that come with it, how to use a tampon, and information on TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). All questions or threads relating to a period, menstruation, pads or tampons are to go here.

Mental Illness Information Sticky (formerly known as the "Mental Disorders Sticky")
A sticky with information on Bi-Polar and Rapid Cycle Bi-Polar, schizophrenia, anxiety and panic disorders, and helpful resources for all the mental disorders covered in the sticky.

The ever-expanding sticky to do with puberty. Included are different stages of puberty that both boys and girls go through, different physical and hormonal changes in both, and other issues they have to go through (shaving, genital growth, menstruation and breast issues, etc).

Queer As Family: Legal Rights and Responsibilities Sticky
A sticky with Canadian legal information for LGBTQ couples and families. The information from the booklet is from 2002, but there is an update post at the end of the sticky with more recent news and information on the sticky's contents.

Recall List For Parents Sticky
A sticky for parents with recall information on different products for babies and children. Based off of the Gaian Parents Guild's recall list, with newer recalls added that I've found.

Recognizing Heterosexism and Homophobia Sticky
A sticky with information on what heterosexism and homophobia are, and how to prevent those types of behavior. Also includes a glossary of sexuality terms and definitions.

This sticky has information on STDs, prevention and transmission of STDs, and just overall knowledge about practicing safe sex if one chooses to be sexually active.

Sex/Puberty Embarrassing Stories Sticky
A place for people to post their embarrassing stories relating to sex and puberty. Please remember to not get too detailed or descriptive, and use the appropriate terminology (no slang)!

Sex Education 101 Sticky [Link goes to the one in the Puberty Subforum.]
One of the more important stickies in the guild. Includes information on basic questions asked, female and male anatomy (includes linked pictures), information on the reproductive systems, information on orgasms, etc.

Sex Therapy & Sexual Disorder Sticky
A sticky with some information on what sex therapy is, and where one can go look to get some if they think they need it.

Sex Toys, Fetishes, Positions and Lapdances Sticky
A sticky that covers a wide variety of topics. Included are different types of sex toys, different fetishes people can have, some different sex positions people can try, and how to perform a lapdance for your partner.

Sexual Violence Sticky
A sticky that has a pamphlet with information on what sexual violence (rape) is and what sexual harassment is, and how you can deal with and try to prevent both.

Sexuality Sticky
A sticky with information on being gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, and androgynous. Also contains heterosexuality information. It also has information on coming out and things to consider before doing so.

Smoking Sticky
A sticky with information and risks about smoking, and the effects on the human. Pictures are included and linked as a user precaution, but please use discretion in looking at them.

So You're Thinking of Being a Teen Mom? Sticky
A sticky meant to inform teens who are thinking of intentionally becoming parents at a young age, and encourage them to wait until they are older and more capable of providing for a baby before they have a baby. Info is backed up with research.

Solutions to Cramps Sticky
A small sticky with a list of methods provided by guild members on how to reduce cramps and make them less painful.
Location: The Menstruation Subforum.


Still More Mental Health Information Sticky [JUST ADDED!]
A sticky with more information and pamphlets about a variety of conditions, ranging from schizophrenia to dealing with the suicide of a friend or loved one. Has more information on depression, anxiety and mood disorders, and a couple posts worth of book and website resources.

Stress Sticky
A sticky with information on how to deal with stress and how to reduce it, and where stress can show up in your life.

Substance Abuse Sticky
Contains information about many different types of drugs, as well as resources for getting help if you need treatment for drug abuse, and information on how to seek help for someone else who might be abusing drugs.

Suicide Information, Prevention and Resources Sticky (formerly the "Suicide Information and Help Sticky")
A sticky with information, helpful information and resources on suicide. Included is information on how to deal with someone who is suicidal, and a list of BC Crisis Line resources.

Ultimate Birth Control Information Sticky
Contains the former stickies for the Evra Patch, Depo Provera, additional birth control information, and the guild's original birth control information sticky. The old versions have been locked and moved to the Archive Subforum. This new one has everything the old birth control sticky had and more, and best of all, it's not in eye-strain-o-vision anymore!
It has information on the Pill, Patch, Depo Provera, NuvaRing, Norplant, IUD, and non-hormonal methods of birth control. There's also information on birth control side effects, and what the effectiveness rating is for some of the more common methods of hormonal birth control.

A sticky with a guide for parents with a list of developmental milestones, from 3 months to 5 years. The goal is to detect any potential developmental delays as early as possible.

A sticky with wedding and marriage information and resources, and other wedding/marriage related facts and blurbs designed to encourage discussion about getting married.

Here's a list of the different subforums (to date), and what can be posted there. Please read the Guideline announcement in each subforum before posting, so you have an idea of what is and isn't allowed in each subforum.

Advertisement, Art and Event Subforum
A place for people to advertise thread and guilds, offer or post art, and advertise events going on around Gaia.


Archive Subforum
A subforum which has old, locked threads and stickies for people to look through. A sampling of threads from the different subforums are included here.


Article Subforum
A place for guild members (myself included) to post articles they find in newspapers or on the internet. The articles in this subforum have been posted in their original subforums, but have been copied to this subforum for quicker reference. If you're posting your own article (which is welcomed), a source at the beginning of the article is required.

Being a Teenager Subforum
A place that covers some of the other topics associated with being a teenager such as stress and stress-reduction, problems with family or friends, etc. This subforum also has a couple of the old stickies from the guild's front page.


Birth Control and Condom Subforum
A subforum with stickies, information and questions about the different types of birth control available in today's society, including effectiveness rates, availability and side effects. Also has information about condoms, how to put them on, effectiveness, etc.

Cancer Support Subforum
A place for users to find information on cancer and support those who have/had cancer, or who know someone who has/had cancer. Included is information on cancers specific to both males and females.

Have a thread that doesn't fit in any other subforum? Post your thread here.

Depression and Other Mental Health Issues Subforum [Name Updated July/2010]
A subforum with stickies ranging from information on autism, to stickies relating to depression, self-harm and eating disorders. Also included is information about suicide.


Drug & Alcohol Abuse and Smoking Subforum
A place to discuss the abuse of various types of drugs, as well as stickies with information on drugs and smoking. Information about alcohol abuse will also be added.

A mini-ED of sorts. A place for people to post topics or stories of interest so people can discuss and debate them.

Fertility and Gynecology Subforum

Poll Fun For Everyone Subforum
A fun subforum for people to post short questions with polls so guild members can relax and earn free gold. This subforum differentiates from the Spam/Chatter/Misc. Positive Body Image Subforum
A place to reinforce positive body image in both boys and girls. The emphasis is on girls, but there will be information for boys too. Also contains information on nutrition, safe dieting, and exercise.

A place for parents and parents-to-be to ask questions and find information relating to different pregnancy issues. Also frequented by several Gaian Parents Guild (GPG) members who are parents IRL.

A place for guild members to talk about difficult experiences in their past (ie - rape or abuse). Helpful information and links are provided in the stickies.


Recycle Bin
The place where old and resolved threads are moved to. If the thread hasn't been declared resolved by the OP, but the thread seems to have ended, then it may end up moved here. (If this happens to your thread, just PM me and I'll help you find it.)


Relationship Subforum
A place for users to come post and ask questions about relationships and dating. Kind of self-explanatory. Also included is information (in a sticky) on how to deal with an abusive relationship and/or abusive partner.

A place for users to find information and ask questions about anything relating to sex. Again, kind of self-explanatory. Covers such topics such as STD's, age of consent, masturbation, oral and a**l sex, and having sex for the first time (or finding an alternative to it).


Sexuality and Gender Identity Subforum
A place meant to be welcoming to those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, two-spirit, etc. Straight people are of course welcome in the subforum too, as long as they are polite and respectful of the issues being discussed. Information on heterosexuality has recently been added.
