Personality: Stormwild is friendly, loyal, and protective. She's proud of her Wind heritage, and perhaps a bit arrogant because of it. She believes that Wind Soquili were gifted with wings to help protect and watch over their herd. She's friendly, but can be very stubborn, especially if you try to insult her or anyone she cares about.
History: When she was young, she had a whirlwind romance with a handsome Soquili named Couscous. However, Stormwild learned the hard way that crossing wind and ground is a dangerous and daunting task. She was only able to keep one basket safe, giving the other two to their father to raise. Sequoyah, her first son, was a ground Soquili, something that was very difficult for Stormwild to handle. But despite it all, Sequoyah grew up safe and strong. He is ept as mountain climbing to keep up with his mothe. Storm herself grew an unsteady friendship with an arrogant wind named Balrog. Eventually their pairing led to three more children, wild and wind as could be. While Balrog and Stormwild consider their relationship more of a "friends with benefits" tthan a romantic one, she holds a special place in her heart for the wild wind stallion. Update: Recently, Stormwild helped a strange fishman save some shells from a pair of confused Osprey. As a gift for her help, he gave her one of the shells. Stormwild was a little unsure of the new edition at first, but she couldn't just leave it behind, so she took it upon herself to raise the little kelpi named Mahi. Update 2/15/2007: Mahi had since left the herd to live in the Ocean. Sequoyah, Xandir, Dahlia, and the other non-winged members of her herd have moved on after their presence almost destroyed the relationship between Stormwild and Balrog. Balrog sired three foals with another mare, Anemone, but she had since left, leaving Balrog with only one of the colts. Update 4-05-09: Stormwild has been accepted into Elderhood!

Personality: Flirty, friendly, hyper. Azure loves life and everything about it, he can barely stay still for more than a few minutes at a time most of the time, but when he is feeling lazy he loves to sit in sturdy trees and nap amongst the leaves, letitng the scent of the flowers on the wind lull him to sleep.
History: Azure was raised by his father, Lothario, with no clear idea who his mother was. Lothario was left with three baskets at his proverbial doorstep. Azure grew up believing that you should follow your heart, no matter what. Love is fleeting and exhilarating, but is nothing to take too serious. He's always been jealous of his twin brother, Ulysses , though he would never admit it. He left his homelands a few years ago to go to the Kawani tribelands and try to make a mark on the land without his brother constantly overshadowing him. Azure flits about the Soquili land, meeting new people and chatting it up with the mares. He has never quite fallen in love, though another flutter mare named Shaylee has come awfully close. They have had children together once and remain good friends, though Azure refuses to let himself get tied down. He has a good friends named Narci, another gregarious flutter stallion. They became nearly instant friends, and often are seen fluttering about together on the hunt for fun. Update 11/5/2007 Recently, Azure has been seen consorting with the beautiful Alicorn Kamiki. They are close friends, and casual mates. While both Kamiki and Azure understand that they do not to be lifemates, Kamiki has expressed her desire to have foals, be a mother, and raise them. She asked Azure to be the sire, and they both agreed thier combined pedigrees would make for beautiful children. Kamiki is now pregnant, and they expecting baskets soon. Update 11/17/2007: The babies are here! Nimbus and Spellbound are perfect in any way, but a surprise came with. For reasons beyond Azure & Kamiki's knowledge, their third basket got switched out with another. The odd child, Sumi-e is a puzzle indeed, but has not stopped Azure and Kamiki as raising him as their own. Update 3/03/08: Another update, Azure got himself in a bit of trouble by getting tangled up with the half-kalona Megaera. Being egged on by Narci, he seduced the young mare, inadvertently getting her pregnant. Meg was too young to handle the pregnancy alone, and after attacking Azure, Kamiki convinced her to let Kamiki & Azure raise two of the baskets, leaving Meg with one. However, Azure does fear thanks to Meg's aim, that he will not be able to have more children.

Personality: Cata is very much her father's daughter. She is egotistical and between her and her sister, Maelstrom, they truly are twin terrors. They are used to getting their way and hell be had if they don't. She is proud to be a wind soquili, and believes herself to be blessed and privileged to be so.
History: Cataclysm is the offspring of Balrog and Stormwild, and was one of Balrog's "proofs" that offsprings of wind soquili are superior to their land-bound counterparts.

She has stayed with her parents as a part of their small wind-soquili herd, and her sister Maelstrom. She is the Alpha-in-Waiting of the herd, ready to step into Stormwild's shoes if the need ever calls for it. Update 2/15/08: Lately, Cata has been spending a lot of 'alone' time with the stallion Wild Wind, leaving Cata with more free time on her hooves than usual. She's a bit at a loss of what to do with herself as so much of her identity is interwoven with her sister, and the jealousy she feels towards the attention she's giving to Wild Wind manifests in moodiness and a shorter-than-normal temper.

Personality: Jericho is adventurous with a wild imagination. He’s prone to get lost in his own daydreams, happily pretending he’s on some great adventure. He’s friendly, and considers himself to be extremely brave and self-sacrificing (however he’s rarely in a situation where he can prove such claims). Despite his fantasies of adventuring, he tends to stay close to his friends and family in the mountains and shows a great loyalty towards those close to him.
History: Jericho was born from his lifemated parents, Belle and Zhuri, in the winter months. Because of this, he loves the snow and the cold more than any other weather. He was raised in the company of a protective herd and loving parents, so he’s extremely loyal and family-oriented. He gets along great with his brother Xandir, though he doesn’t live in the herd anymore so he doesn’t get to see him as much as he would like. Personality: Kamiki is friendly, exuberant, mysterious, and flirtatious. She’s more shy than she would like you to think she is, but once she strikes up conversation she’s willing to make a new friend. She’s equally comfortable in a crowd as she is by herself, but she can’t be alone for too long before she craves companionship. She gets a long better with stallions than mares, and she’s always friendly and flirtatious even if her intentions aren’t romantic ones. She actually had no current interest in a long-time mate, though she’s comfortable with casual relationships.
History: Kamiki does not often speak about her past, but when she does its generally proud and positive. Her father was a true alicorn, born of two alicorn parents. Her mother was a strikingly beautiful white and lavender unicorn mare. She inherited the alicorn genes, something she is very proud of. No one knows exactly why she left her original herd, though it doesn’t seem to have been for any negative reason. She has enjoyed the Kawani lands, and even decided to join a herd here when she learned she was finally pregnant. As Kamiki got older she learned that why she was still not ready for a lifemate, she did yearn to bare children of her own, and eventually was successful with her casual mate and good friend Azure. She gave birth to three baskets, but unbeknownst to her, one of those baskets was switched by Anju for one of his own. So she raised two of her own biological children along side her unknowingly adopted son, Sumi-e. Kamiki does not fully understand why he looks so drastically different from her lineage, but she never has not considered him a son. Spellbound is much like Kamiki in personality, though his looks take after his father, Azure. Kamiki’s secret fave is her son, Nimbus, who’s shy and gentlemanly, but eerily beautiful.

Personality: Thunderbird is the golden child of Balrog's herd. His arrival is seen as a validation of Balrog's beliefs and Balrog and Stormwild believe him to be a gift and a blessing from their totem, Thunderbird, and he was named in his honor. Thunderbird is exceedingly proud of his heritage - and he believes he has every right to be. He is fully aware of his figurehead status in the herd, and has never questioned it or the gravity that Stormwild and Balrog treat his arrival.
He takes more after Stormwild's level-headedness than Balrog's aggressive and hotheadedness. He is proud and fearless, but views his superiority as just a fact of life, not something to necessarily lord over someone else.
Unlike Balrog, he will abide by lesser soquili - he will even assist them if the need arises. However, his help is not derived from some binding duty, but by his own generosity. He doesn't see himself as being cut from the same cloth as lessers - and anything he would do for them is viewed by him as charity.
History: Not knowing she was pregnant, Stormwild, upon hearing stories of skinwalkers ad the outskirts of the herd's territory, went to go check up on the missing Firestorm and her wingless son's herd. She was stranded when a nasty blizzard rolled in, leaving her to fend for herself and her new baskets alone. But what better target for the aformentioned skinwalkers than a new mother, weak from the exhaustion - the smell of blood still on the air. Kumiho and Cerberus were on the prowl, Kumiho herself heavy with foals. Upon seeing the baskets, a wicked desire boiled in her chest - to take the baskets for her own use, the infant foals already inside would nourish her young.
When the snows cleared and Balrog found Stormwild, she was battered and beaten, the clearing full of destruction. But miraculously, one basket appeared in tact, despite the fact that Stormwild swore that all of them had been destroyed or stolen in the fight.
Thanking the spirits for this one precious basket, the two of them carefully made their way back to the herdlands on the ground route. The child was named Thunderbird in honor of the totem of the herd, who must have blessed this basket...

History: Vortex is the daughter of Maelstrom and WildWind, and she models her personality and beliefs after them. Their relationship is the cornerstone of her worldview.

Personality: Zhuri is a free spirit. He's extremely friendly and easy going. He's very slow to anger, and has a very "Hakuna Matata" attitude towards life. But he has his priorties in order, and his friends and family are some of the only things he truely cares abuot. Unlike many Children of the Wind, he doesn't veiw his wings as anything very important. He doesn't view himself as a gaurdian or protector - just lucky to have them because flying is fun!
History: Zhuri and Belle were from a small struggling herd of the east. They were young and desperately in love. And, as many stallions do, the only thing Zhuri wanted more than Belle was to father her foals. Belle shared the sentiment, wanting to be the mother of his children. But Belle and Zhuri were little more than foals themselves, and the herd was very wearly of indroducing more foals. Their herd had suffered a hard winter, and food was scarce. Most of the Soquili were thin, especially since a majority of the herd were ground Soquili and could not fly far distances to eat leaves off the treetops. Young and impetious, the couple did not want to be told what to do, so they eventually said their goodbyes to their family and flew away. They settled in a richer land and had their children. Zhuri is older and a bit wiser now, and realizes it was probably a rash decision. But he likes his new home and new friends, and raised three beautiful children with Belle. He has no regrets. Update 2/15/2008: Zhuri and Belle have bred again, making three new beautiful children: Lena, Chuchip, and Jericho! Update 11/10/10: Belle & Zhuri have had their last batch of beautiful children!

The Valley Herd
The Valley Herd is a family-oriented, unofficial herd located in the valley, at the base of the mountains occupied by The Thunderbird Herd. They are a "spin off" of the Thunderbird Herd, when the tensions between the non-winged and winged members of the herd was causing too much conflict between Balrog and Stormwild. Sequoyah took his lovemate, Xandir, and all the non-winged members of the herd to form his own herd. The herd is protected by Sumi-e, and Sequoyah acts as the Alpha. The Valley Herd doesn't actively look for new members, but anyone who comes across them and is looking for a home is welcome to join.

Personality: Sequoyah is soft-spoken, shy, and gentle most of the time. He's quiet and keeps mostly to himself. He's a complete mama's boy, as his paranoid (wind) mother was very overprotective. He grew up on the mountainside, so he is very strong, physically. Though as meek as a lamb normally, put his family or friends in danger and suddenly you're dealing with a lion.
History: Sequoyah has two sisters he has never met, as his mother gave the baskets to his father, Couscous (who he has also never met) to raise. Stormwild was young as a first mother, but did her best to raise her son. She learned the hard way that raising a ground Soquili when yourself is a wind Soquili is hard and wearing work. However, she managed to raise him safe and secure. Because he was raised on the mountainside, Sequpyah is very strong and nimble. However, he has always secretly felt a bit inferior to his wind mother counterpart. His mother's new mate, an arrogant Wind named Balrog, dispises him due to his mixed heritage. Though he wishes Balrog would accept him, it did finally give the meek Sequoyah a bit of a desire to strike out a bit on his own. He is shy of mares, but has one very close friend, an effeminate stallion named Xandir. Update: Though they haven't exactly put their feelings into words, Xandir and Sequoyah have gotten very close. They came across a horrible murder scene where a Skinwalker took the life of a lovely wind Soquili and one of her two baskets. The pair of stallions adopted the basket, raiding the little filly, Dahlia, as their daughter. Update 2/15/2008: Sequoyah led the Exodus of all non-winged members of Stormwild/Balrog's herd after he saw that thie presence was slowly destroying the relationship between Balrog and Stormwild. It was a hard and painful decision for Sequoyah to leave, but he knew it had to be done for Stormwild's ultimate happiness. Currently he lives in the valley with Xandir, Dahlia, and the aloof Sumi-e.

Personality: As a foal, Sumi-e was a devious, impish Soquili. Though he was raised by Kamiki and Azure, two friendly and benign parents, his real father is Anju, and it leaks through. Sumi loved to have fun, tease other Soquili, and set up elaborate plots and schemes. He loved to spread gossip, tease, or mislead. He wasn't all out malicious by any means, but he does have a mean streak in him. However, despite his teasing, he genuinely loves his family and his close friends... especially those that can stand his odd way of showing affection. As he got older, however, his herd protector, Balrog's, constant disgust of him and his "crippled, deformed" wings began to get to him. He withdrew and became stand-offish. When Sequoyah and Xandir left the herd, Sumi-e chose to go with them. He knew serves as Sequoyah's protector.
History: His biological parents are the unicorn, Amaterasu and the strange creature called Anju. But due to a mix-up by the Anju, Sumi-e's basket and that of a Soquili that would come to be known as Arcana got switched. Therefore, Sumi-e wound up getting raised by Kamiki & Azure, who loved and cared for Sumi-e as their own. There was never any proof of foul-play with the baskets, and while it is unknown how Sumi-e came about, both Kamiki and Azure are fairly certain that Sumi-e is not a 'normal' child. They have never told or implied Sumi-e's questionable parentage to him, however.

Personality: Despite the dark stain in her lineage, the fact that her father was raised in a mostly well-adjusted herd, her grandmother was a pure, sweet unicorn, and her mother is a sweet, artistic mare has tempered the potential darkness out of Calligraphy. Her father, Sumi-e is an awkward stallion, quiet and generally uncomfortable around strangers because he has a difficult time expressing himself. Her mother is an artistic, friendly mare. Calligraphy got all of that artistic nature from her mother with the unusual brushpaint influences of her father and grandmother.
Her hooves are perpetually dripping with black paint, and she seems to have the innate ability to create temporary images out of the paint - such as small butterflies that flit around her. History: Very little is known about her mother, except she was a wind Soquili that arrived to these lands pregnant. One can only guess her mate was a ground Soquili because Dahlia was born without wings. Dahlia’s mother gave birth to two baskets before an unknown Skinwalker slaughtered her (and presumably ate her as her body was never found) and destroyed one of the baskets in the bloody struggle. Xandir and Sequoyah came across the aftermath, and, seeing the discovery as an omen, took the remaining living basket with them to raise as their own. Updated 2/18/08: Dahlia is now a fully grown mare, though she stills has much of her charm and innocence as a filly. She has not connected the dots as to why she has two daddies while most other foals have a mommy and a daddy. She has made several friends, most notably the stallion Aureate, who she cannot quite place what he makes her feel...Update 7/15/08: Dahlia found herself pregnant by Aureate, and mothered two beautiful foals of her own! However, Avalon was never cut out for motherhood - wanting no ties or responsibility limiting her personal freedom, even by family. Confused by the elusive fairer sex, Xandir had an awkward encounter with a friendly mare named Honovi. The experience left him feeling very confused and a bit scared... and unbeknownst to him, left Honovi with two foals. Now, Xandir tends to steer clear of mares alltogether, and has fallen hopelessly in love with his best friend, Sequoyah. Update: Though they haven't exactly put their feelings into words, Xandir and Sequoyah have gotten very close. Personality: Gavin is a total softie. Unlike some usdias with little-horse syndrome, Gavin is totally aware of just how small he is, and because of it, he's rather timid. He's interested in animals of all sorts - and likes to watch nature around him - from moths to bunnies, although he's a bit intimidated by the bigger soquili. However, Gavin is quite bright and charming. He loooves attention and affection from the two-legs, and anyone he meets he assumes is a potential friend. He loves rolling around in the grass and frolicking around.
History: Gavin and Piggy were part of a small herd of Usdias. One day when they were out wandering a bit further than they should have, a coyote saw an easy meal with the tiny ponies and made a grab for the little Gavin. Piggy, always the braver of the two, charged after it and was able to chase off the skinny predator. However, by the time she rescued her brother, they were pretty far from home. Eventually, the little pair was found by Kamiki Ahawi and taken in. In a gesture of friendship and to tighten their connection, she and Sabin each took a foal - to make sure that Sabin would make plenty of visits and keep the little Usdias in close contact. Personality: Seance is half kalona and half tainted shadow-unicorn, and raised in a herd of rather vicious soquili - not exactly a mix that would bring out the best in most soquili. And Seance, for the most part, generally isn't the nicest of soquili, however her grandmother was a pure, gentle unicorn, and some of that blood does show through on Seance from time to time - much like unikalona who express features of both heritages.
This leaves Seance rather bipolar - sometimes even kind - but just as likely to be very much a chip off the block of her father: dangerous and scheming.
History: Seance is the daughter of Taraxippus and Izusa. Taraxippus and Izusa have a tenuous and yet sometimes passionate relationship - at least the closest you could call a relationship between a darkly manipulative tainted unicorn and a pureblood Kalona. They each have a cautious respect of the other - mindful of their words and gestures, and each manipulating the other. However, because of that, they do find a solace in the actions of the other - both delighting in the thrill of the kill, and dark natures. When they bred one night in a thistle-covered copse of trees, Seance was one of the three resulting offspring - and the only one that Taraxippus took with him while she was still in the basket back to his herd.

History: Megaera is the foal of Brigitte and Ramoth. When Brigitte became unexpectedly pregnant after her encounter with Ramoth, she, in her addled mind, didn't exactly comprehend what had happened. Sabin had been keeping an eye on the strange mare, even if she didn't exactly permit him to get very close. However, when he noticed her pregnant belly, he did the job of procuring baskets from Kamiki and collected the newborn foals (with the help of Taraxippus distracting Brigitte) when they were born. In a small, grisly patch of swamp, Obeah has established his kingdom. He does not view his land as a slimy, smelly, wet, and dangerous land: in his mind, these lands are a great, wide-span kingdom like the stories his sister, Cihuacoatl, told him about when she raised him. Utterly delusional and raving mad, Obeah considers himself the King of this shining, golden kingdom, with Cihuacoatl acting as the Queen. Obeah seeks to increase his 'kingdom' by breeding with other Soquili and bringing the basket he managed to steal away from the mother back to the swamp to serve in his 'royal court.' All members of the Swampland Kingdom are open for plots - new members are generally bred in, but other (crazy) Soquili willing to submit to Obeah's 'rule' are welcome.

Personality: As a colt, Obeah is active and curious, observing the world around him and basking in its infinite opportunities. Like his sister, he has a delusional sense of grandeur; feeling entitled to be treated like royalty. Despite her relative indifference to him, he sees his sister as someone like-in-mind to his own vision and adores her. He dreams of becoming the king of the land, ruling those lesser than him with Cihuacoatl by his side like a Queen.
History: When Tara found the two baskets in the graveyard and “rescued” them from their birth mother, he presented the green serpentine one to Cihuacoatl. She was the basket’s sister, at least by half though he surmised probably whole sister giving the similarities of the markings (Brigette certainly had no scale like patterns on her), so he left with her, telling the distant mare the thing was her responsibility. Confused, she did as she was told, carting the basket around her like one would a handbag or suitcase. She showed the basket no signs of affection or resentment, but her indifferent care did an adequate enough job: hatching a fangy and wiley snake-like colt. Cihaucoatl’s approach to motherhood was not much different than nurturing a basket: when the colt was hungry she would lead it to food, when he was cold she let the thing snuggle up under her wing, and when he was restless and wouldn’t sleep, Cihua would grace the little thing with a story of the grand world she saw in her head. The mare’s nonchalant care and lack of attention meant Obeah (as Sabin had named it, informing Cihua that she had to call him something) grew up quickly due to forced independence.

Personality: Mokole is a primal, savage, almost prehistoric kelpi that lives deep in the swamps. While not stupid per se, he relies much more heavily on instinct than any kind of sophisticated interactions or planning. He is adept at living off the land, survival and camouflage, and subsists on an omnivorous diet. He is a soquili of few words - not seeing much point to them most of the time. He takes his time and is very patient, and generally slow-moving. But when hunting, can last out very swiftly from a stand-still to ambush prey.
History: Mokole has been living in the swamps for as long as he can remember. It was Obeah and Cihuacoatl that moved into his territory when they found their swampy kingdom, not the other way around. Initially, he tolerated their presence, and generally kept out of their way, preferring to stay out of sight. However, as time passed and encounters occurred, they reached a sort of understanding of each others' presence, and Mokole has transitioned from an honorary herd member into a full, though reclusive, one. Obeah sees him as a strange mix of a rival and a potential mate for those soquili he is related to to continue their line.

The kalona kept her tethered and guarded, using her for her power over the undead. Mal'Ganis, one of these kalona, had been relegated to being the jailer, guarding the prison. However, over the years, Frostmourne began to influence her jailor. Slowly, eventually, he was under her command.

She used him to lure Arthas - a suitable tool and agent - to her and free her. Ultimately, she hoped that the brave stallion would become a host for her mate. Mal'Ganis followed her orders, but when he had accomplished her wishes, much to the demon's surprise, she betrayed him.

Being with Frostmourne gave Arthas power - she was strong, fierce. And ultimately, she wanted him to become a body for her slain mate. She claimed his soul, changing him, making him undead like she had command over. Together, they turned on Mal'Ganis, defeated him out of a mutual revenge.

Then, she influenced Arthas to take the kingdom from his father - driving him into further corruption and securing her hold over her - the more he used the power/used her, the more control she had over him.

He killed his own father, and much of the soquili herds of his father's kingdom, turning them (including Sylvanas) into his scourge army. Meanwhile, however, the kalona were moving on where the lich king's soul was still imprisoned, planning to destroy it while it was weak - separated from Frostmourne. Frostmourne knew that with that destroyed, she would be too. Frostmourne demanded that they go back to defend it - that all of this power was at risk.

He made it back, in time to confront and defeat the kalona by putting on the ancient barding - merging with the Ner'Zul and truly becoming Frostmourne's mate. However, when he did don the helm, he was not overridden with her old mate's persona, but the opposite - Arthas's identity is the dominant one. But still, it is Frostmourne that holds the true power, and Arthas's soul.

Now, together, they are virtually inseparable, and almost of a single mind. They crave more power and control over the world, and to spread the scourge.

Name: Kumiho - A kumiho (구미호 / 구 "gu" - nine) (literally "nine tailed fox") is a creature that appears in the oral tales and legends of Korea. According to those tales, a fox that lives a thousand years turns into a kumiho, like its Japanese and Chinese counterparts. It can freely transform, among other things, into a beautiful girl often set out to seduce men, and eat their liver or heart (depending on the legend). More cunning than many of the Western cognates of skinwalkers, Kumiho enjoys planning, plotting, and maximizing the misery that she causes in others through elaborate tricks and deceptions. "A have a story I want to tell you," the mysterious man said to her. Dubh Sidhe had never spoken to a two-legger before, but something about him intrigued her. "You see, this woman had a tame Soquili mare, she had raised since the horse was just a small filly," he started, looking directly into Dubh Sidhe's eyes. "She made blankets, you see... and her Soquili helped her carry them to the village to sell. This mare loved her human so much, she never would complain. She did her duty like any devoted little horse would." Dubh Sidhe shifted her weight on her hooves as she continued to listen. "But the woman, she kept putting more and more blankets on the overworked mare's back. And one day, she said 'please, no more.' The human woman was so angry, she said back to the mare, 'Are you not strong? These blankets weigh hardly more than air.' So the mare succumbed, and let her load more blankets on her." The man paused again, smiling a strange smile at Dubh Sidhe, who was absolutely entranced by the story. "But one day the woman, as she lay yet another blanket on her mare..." SNAP, the man clapped his hands together suddenly and unexpectedly, causing Dubh Sidhe jump. With a satified smile the man continued, "her back snapped, and she died instantly, right there in front of her human."

The metaphor of the story was not lost on Dubh Sidhe. Just a few hours earlier, the lonely mare had approached a handsome young stallion that had wandered near the thicket that she called home. Painfully shy, and socially awkward, the encounter had not gone well. The stallion seemed irritated by her presence, and made a quick retreat. This was rather par for the course for this eccentric and disturbing mare. While beautiful, she had a quality to her - a dark, unnerving aura that caused most Soquili to avoid her. Dubh Sidhe had grown a thick skin over the years, but tonight the stallions rebuff had gotten to her, and she shed her first tears in many years. This is when the dark two-legger had approached her.

She felt an instant connection with this man. He seemed to understand her...she could just feel it. He had answers, and Dubh Sidhe was ever-so-willing to learn them from him. After the story, he offered her a dark gift, and she accepted, without fully understanding exactly what the consequences would be. When the powder had first touched her skin and singed her fur-it hurt. The smell filled her nose and a wave of nausea had overcome her. But as her body reeled it seemed to grow stronger. Lights became brighter, colors more prismatic; smells and sounds painting a chorus of sensations across her brain. And a single thought running through her head - revenge. She was able to track him down - the stallion that who was so quick to brush her off earlier that day - quite easily. Nose to the ground like a beast on the hunt, she found him quickly: lazily grazing in a field amongst his small herd.

Seeing his eyes widen in fear as she charged him was satisfying. Sinking her teeth into his throat was like being reborn. It was if she had never tasted anything before; she had never felt so alive or right about anything before this. The feel of his hot blood spilling over her coat made her shudder in pleasure. She sound of the screams of his family watching was music to her ears. She watched him fall to the ground, his life draining out of him, staining the grass as it pooled around where his throat used to be. By now she didn't even remember why he looked so familiar. And she didn't care, either. Nothing else mattered anymore. She was doing what she was born to be doing. She would fill her belly with his corpse later, for now - her eyes turned to the fleeing herd-members - there were more games to play.

History: Laikaylah and Glacier both hair from large, prominent families in the far north: a land of much snow, ice and dark, evergreen forests. Most of the Soquili from that area have thick, luxurious coats that are generally spotted like that of the great hunting cats that also call the Forever Winter home. Glacier and Laikaylah were friends since they were foals - along with many of each others' families: Laikaylah was also good friends with one of Glacier's sisters: Rime. Unbeknownst to her, Rime had fallen just in love with Laikaylah as Glacier had. When Glacier finally confessed his feelings for Laikaylah (and she admitted her reciprocation), Rime was heartbroken. She tried to plead with Laikaylah - coming clean about her feels and begging her not to go through her plans to leave with Glacier and travel the world. Though she tried to be diplomatic about as he could, Laikaylah explained she loved Glacier and she didn't ever expect that to change.

Having never been anywhere outside their homelands, the new couple stuck out on their own to travel the world, leaving Rime heartbroken and devastated in the Forever Winter. Unbeknownst to then, Rime eventually succumbed to her devastation and was manipulated into taking corpse powder. Now a cursed skinwalker, she is hunting her brother and his lover - determined to take revenge for what's happened to her.

Personality: Saulot's mother was a harpy, a race generally described as hateful, emotional, cutthroat creatures. Though Sirana never expressed her outright evil tendencies (and being a rare harpy that does not ascribe to a flock), Saulot finds the harpy nature strong in his blood. History: He left his family as a young stallion, traveling the land and hoping to one day find his soulmate; praying she would heal his fractured soul. However, instead of finding a loving, sweet natured mare like he wanted, he found himself enraptured by the avatar of what he feared most in his heart: a vicious Hatetalon harpy named Thessaly. Though he loves her so, he cannot fully allow himself to succumb to her ruthless, predatory nature. Instead, he has decided to try to be the role he always thought he was looking for: the gentle, healing yin to Thessaly's wild and violent yang. History: Dyson hails from the homelands of the Kalona - a truly hellish place to any but the kalonas themselves. However, Dyson was uninterested in the complicated politics and power-struggles of his homelands, and instead prefers to be more in control of his life and be the proverbial big fish among minnows in the Kawani lands where he can command authority and power. Dyson has a son, Ethan, by Rosemary a pretty young mare who was new to the lands. Dyson does not know about Ethan's existence.

Dyson later seduced a pretty young fluttercorn named Arcana - but has no idea that their coupling led to foals - Dyson believes that his blood is too pure to produce children with any but other Kalona. History: Consciousness slowly drifted back to him. How long had he been out? What happened? He blinked a few times, squinting in the harsh light. vonCoren tried to take a deep breath, but inhaled a bit of dust instead. It burned his nostrils and caused him to cough. Of everything, funnily enough, it was the sound of his cough that made vonCoren realize something was wrong. The sound was a deep, shaking rumbling; not a cute little scratchy cough like it should have been. What was happening? Why was he so sore. Why did he feel so heavy and broken?

He tried opening his eyes again, blinking into the light and wincing as his vision adjusted to the hard light of day.

Now what happened?

He tried to clear his head and remember. There was a festival going on… some kind of grand event. Silly little Wolpertingers like himself were hopeless drawn to large drunken crowds. There was always so much to eat drink. Festivals were the best. Tons of discarded faire food everywhere. And more… yes… he had stumbled across a stash of pet biscuits. Beautiful, wonderful, starchy heaven… left unguarded and just there for the taking.

The things was… despite how small and fluffy they were, Wolpertingers were notoriously bad at controlling themselves. There was no need for vonCoren to eat virtually the whole barrel of biscuits. He wasn’t starving. He didn’t have a little Wolpertinger family to take care of. He wasn’t even that hungry. But there he sat, for who knew how long, just eating. Of course once he had finished nearly the whole barrel – quite a feat for something his size – he had meant to scurry away before being caught…

…but something had happened. He felt sick and dizzy. Perhaps not too surprising considering he just ate over ten times his body weight in biscuits, but he couldn’t hardly sit up straight, much less hop away. He saw stars in his vision and then… blackness.

That left him here… the empty barrel was discarded off to the side – but why did it look so small?

He rolled over, trying to get to his feet. Looking down, vonCoren was shocked to see hooves instead of his adorable little bunny paws. He jerked back, instinctively moving onto all fours, wobbly steadying himself at the sudden change in height. He was a dizzy – he had never been this high up before – what was happening? He looked back down at the heavy hooves that now replaced his feet. He took a tentative step. His whole body felt so alien and strange – heavy and uncoordinated. Like he was on stilts. Why was he like this? Like a horse?! He shook his head in disbelief and felt the light slap of his long Wolpertinger ears against his face. His ears! Oh thanks the heavens he still had his ears! He looked back. Wings, too. So he wasn’t just changed into a horse… he was some kind of a horse like Wolpertinger… creature.

Perhaps festival food wasn’t all it was cracked up to be after all. He certainly didn’t want to get caught like this – they might try to put a saddle on him or something! No… no for now he would just find a quiet a cool place to rest, and wait until this silly spell wore off.

Personality: Hyde is the personification of pure, unleashed ego without remorse. He acts on desire, taking what he wants, and damn the consequences or anyone who might get in his way. He has no reservations about resorting to violence. In fact, he derives a sick pleasure from it. He is a wicked, twisted beast of desire born from years of repression and set free to live out every sick, repressed fantasy.
History: Hyde was not always Hyde. Once, he was the meekest, most repressed stallion that went by Jekyll, a soquili from across the ocean. He was an altruistic soquili who helped others in need. The way he was raised and his own neurotic personality dictated that he could never act on selfish desires. He couldn't pursue mares, he couldn't stand up for himself or others in a physical conflict. He viewed such things as "impure" or "base". And, it shouldn't have come as a surprise to him that he would have violent dreams or other thoughts about the things that he wanted to do but never had the nerve to act upon.
The breaking point came when Jekyll decided to try to find a way to banish these horrible thoughts and desires. He wanted to be good and wholesome, and he felt that the thoughts he had was a veritable stain on his soul. Jekyll was well versed in the use of various kinds of herbs. Some to calm the nerves, some to help one sleep. Jekyll took what he knew and started to self-diagnose. Whenever he would have a disturbing throught or dream he would begin to use these herbs to help him repress these thoughts. It worked, for a time. He went about his work, but relied more and more heavily on them. When a lovely young mare began work alongside him, however, his secret thoughts became more difficult to repress. Jekyll, in desperation, ate a great deal of the herbs... and blacked out.
What he eventually learned was that all that repression and herbdrug use had fractured him. The repressed feelings bubbled forth into a new personality that adopted the name Hyde. It was a new way of seeing the world free of all of that burdensome guilt and self-hatred.
Jekyll's "fits" came more and more often, and eventually, in order to protect those that he cared about, he boarded a ship that would take him far, far away.

Personality: Ichabod is the embodiment of Ichthyophobia, the fear of fish. His skin is scaly and slimy. His fins are spiny and sharp, and he has a wicked bite with sharp teeth. He emboides a lot of the disturbing aspect of fish - the deep-sea spiny anglers, sharp-toothed sharks, or wriggly, slimy fish that cause a start. However, Ichabod could not have truly mastered his capabilities c without him personally experiencing the horrors that fish can cause. While many land-dwelling soquili might scoff at something like a fish, Ichabod knows the dangers of the deep sea. Sharks, eels, spiny dragon and lionfish, wriggling eels.
Ichabod has taken on characteristics of the viscous fish as a defense mechanism - the sea even more so than on land the rule is that the strong and big survive and can prey upon the smaller, weaker. And it brings him a great thrill to bring the same fear onto others than he experienced as a foal. The jaws that snap out of the blackness. And since discovering the above-world, Ichabod is eager to share the horrors of the deep.
History: Ichabod comes from one of the darker branches of the kelpi lines. While many are playful, noble creatures, it is the likes of him that gives Kelpi their sour name. It is his species that were known to drown travelers in the brackish lochs in Scotland and Ireland. It was the hungry maws of his kind that drug sailors to their doom.
While his line is relatively small, their reputation has colored many landlubbers (or mer soquili's) Perspectives on what the Kelpi are, and his family is proud of that reputation. While they spawn rarely, his family wanted to ensure that this soquili would live up to the reputation of his lineage. They wanted him to know his capabilities, know the fear of the deep and the fish that lived there. If he was worthy, he would overcome it and be all the stronger for it. His protective shell was left in waters thick with eels and sharks and other viscous fishy predators, and he was left to fend for himself, watched from a distance. The foal quickly learned the terrors of the sea - of gnashing jaws and slimy wriggling coils that wrapped around him in the dark. Ichabod learned fear. And the only way to cope with that ever-present danger for the foal was to become like the creatures that he was left with - learning how to use his sharp spines and his own fangly teeth. While Ichabod might have been left more than a little unhinged and neurotic, fearful, and angry and unpredictable... it did serve his parents' purpose of making him every bit the horror that they wanted him to become.
When they did reintroduce him to others of his kind, Ichabod was off - having grown up fending for himself. His speech is therefore awkward, and he has a hard time feeling at-ease with conversation. He resents his family for leaving him as a foal, but has a healthy respect for their strength and can recognize their likeness to him. They have since introduced him to the above-world, and prodded him to make them respect and fear what the oceans and other bodies of water contain.

Personality: Mabon sees himself as a veritable avatar of the autumn season. The herd he was raised in saw his arrival as a powerful portent and have honored him as such. Thus, he has never doubted his sense of self-importance. He leads his herd during the autumn months.

Mabon claims that his prolonged presence in an area can cause the leaves to change.
History: Mabon was born to a flutter herd on the autumn solstice, and was named in its honor. His herd took his arrival as a portent of recognition and validation from the spirits themselves. The herd that Mabon was born to were a mercurial and very fey-like group of Soquili who move with the changing weather, passing leadership amongst them as the seasons change. It only stood to reason that during the autumn months, Mabon took charge of the herd.

It was actually his father that was the member of the herd, and the Autumn king before him, bearing the same turning-leaf wings that he possesses. He mated with a doe-eyed mare that they encountered during their roaming (a cerynei, though he did not know of their breed beyond the doe herself). Thus, it was a surprise to his whole heard when, upon reaching adolescence, Mabon grew proud antlers, strengthening the already obvious connection with autumn.

Like the other seasonal leaders of his herd, he has taken on a companion and familiar. His, a crow named Equinox.

Personality: Ryujin is a proud beast. While he is part kalona, the demon-blood comes through in the form of a commanding, scrutinizing personality with an easily-roused temper more so than being truly evil. He does not like being talked back to or anyone deigning to tell him what to do. If Ryujin is treated with the respect that he feels he deserves, then he can even be gracious. He is conceited, blunt, and courageous, but very critical of others. He is a soquili of action moreso than words, and because of that he can jump to rash decisions before necessarily thinking them through.
History: Ryujin hails from a land nearly on the other side of the world from the Kawani people. This land of Japan has been closed off to the world for generations, and Ryujin as well as a few other representatives from this distant land set off to explore the wider world. He and the others had rather disparate motivations for setting out, and most have split ways since their arrival in this new world to see what the barbaric soquili of this new land are like.

History: Tilyr and Illyana's mother was a young wind mare who was not ready to suddenly find herself with twins. Without a dedicated mate, and not prepared to be grounded, she made the decision to stash the baskets somewhere she knew that they would likely be found. And found they were - by Storm Wild - the alpha of a successful wind herd in the mountains. However, since Storm Wild had already gotten herself into trouble more than once with her mate, the protector of the herd, Balrog for taking in non-winds, Storm was not ready to take the risk with two foals of unknown parentage. Knowing that her first son, a ground soquili, Sequoyah had recently left the herd with several others who were no longer welcome, was leading his own successful herd - she brought the baskets to him. History: Artemis loved her brother, but hated how much he smothered her with love and protection. Personality: Carnivale is a whimsical filly that lives for the flash and glimmer of a festival. From lively music to colorful costumes, she lives for this time of chaos and wonder. There is just something about a festival; from a local harvest festival to a courtly masquerade or massive carnivale. There is excitement in the air, exotic scents and foods, a feeling of comraderie even among strangers. Carnivale has taken it upon herself to live her life as if it were a continuous carnival, strangers she meets just transitory conversation or dance partners. One moment she could pretend to be a fancy lady of a vast herd, the next, an awe-stricken filly of little means. It's all a masquerade play.
She is good natured, but capricious and lives for the moment. She would much rather interact with a world of pretend and glamour than deal with boring daily matters. She doesn't make long term plans or tight bonds that would require some kind of responsibility on her end.
History: Carnivale is the foal of the two unicorns, Arlequin and Xavier. Arlequin views life as one large game for her to play with -- which even includes her own foals. She decided to keep just one for herself and Xavier to raise (after she lied and told him they only had one foal together), and the others she sent off with her familiars to give away as surprise gifts, just to see how the receivers of the baskets would react.
This basket in particular was left near the home range of Xavier's mother - a mountain valley near the water. Mahi, Xavier's father lived in these waters, and in the valley was the herd that she still associates with, led by Sequoyah.
Sequoyah's herd was surprised and a little worried to find this abandoned green basket. But their policy has always been to be the home for those that had none. To accept when others won't, originally made up of cast-offs from Balrog and Stormwild's flight-only herd and those who disagreed with their bigoted views. So Sequoyah and his same-sex partner Xander were happy to adopt a new son or daughter.

Personality: Even though she might not display it on the inside, Descent has some very deep-rooted ISSUES. Think of the type of serial killer whom, when described by his neighbors, was always a polite, quiet person. She doesn't go through personality changes so much as she is holding a lot of pathological problems inside. Her family has never gone with what was expected of them. Between her grandparents - An Angeni and a Kalona who both mated with ground soquili - and her parents, who found misfit comfort in each others arms, despite the fact that one came from an angelic line, the other something much more sinister. However, Descent was not even allowed the possible saving grace of being raised by loving parents. Her father's more strict Kalona family did not take kindly to her father turning his back on his Kalona heritage and took it out through the murder of her mother to prove a point to her father.
History: Descent is the daughter of an alicorn and a half Kalona. More specifically, her Grandmother was a uni-Angeni that bred with a normal soquili, and her mother, turned out to appear, for all purposes and an alicorn. Her father's parentage was a Kalona that bred with a normal soquili, and he was a half-kalona that just bore the wings as a sign of his demonic heritage. Therefore, Descent is truly caught midway between two extremes, removed by a generation.

Personality: Glados is a fractured Soquili. It seems as though this Soquili suffers from a form of multiple personality disorder. Events get muddled and confused in her mind, sometimes losing time or order events happened in her lives. She can be inquisitive, friendly, withdrawn, analytical, or extremely vicious…and she generally is ONE of these in an extreme for a given time.
History: No known history. However, it is known that at some point she befriended a homeless baby bear. This bear (referred to as Fabrication), became bonded to her and looked upon her like a mother. For several months they grew close and bonded. Sadly, during a bad regression into her aggressive personality, one day Glados brutally murdered the cub. Afterwards, it is known is Glados failed to remember the attack, or has blocked it from her mind, because though Fabrication is long deceased, she continues to talk to him and refer to him as if he was still alive.

Personality: Nothing in Zee's life is mundane. She lives in the same world as everyone else, but she sees it in a way few others do. No, she's not crazy. Or cursed. No, Zee certainly feels like she's the most blessed and 'in tune' of them all. She knows her and her family is special, and feels she sees deeper than most young Soquili of her age. You see, where most fillys would see a wandering lizard, Zee sees a mighty dragon. A rainbow is not just the illusion of light through the raindrops - its a bridge to another world. Butterflies are elusive fairies. Always questing, always experiencing - she lives her life with a constant stream of adventure, elation, and drive.

From the moment she could stand on her four legs she was ready to join her mother and father on their grand adventures. She longs to vanquish the Evil Doer who destroyed her father's clan, and wreck havoc on the Star Makers. Never once has she ever doubted her parent's stories - listening to them from her young age with a wide-eyed wonder and passionate enthusiasm. Though not as capable as her sister Dash - she matches both her siblings in her wild. gung-ho, in-it-win-it outtake on life. She inherited her father's warrior nobility, but not his talent in stealth (or the patience required to be a ninja...) - she prefers to be brash and straightforward: to tackle her tasks head-on. She's athletic, of course, but brazen and wild.

Another fold in Zee's delusional wrinkle is her inability to feel anything besides unbridled, raw, raging emotion. She's never alittle happy or content - she's estatic. Never slightly disappointed: her heart is shattered. She falls in love easily - every foalhood crush quickly blossoming into a Romeo-and-Juliet level epic romance; though no colt or filly has managed to keep her affections to long. Not only does she fall hard, she falls easily. Though, in all fairness, her brash, hyper, loud, and frankly delusional outlook on life means most of her 'lovers' don't exactly feel the same way about her (don't tell her that, however. She thinks everyone should feel as strongly about everything as she does).

Zee doesn't do anything halfway. Capricious to a fault, she's passionate, creative, emotional, delusional, inspirational and histrionic, all at the same time.

History: (taken from the contest thread) Cockery came from a long line of ninja macaws, but is now the last of his kind. He must raise his children in the ways of the ninja macaw clan and pass on their glorious history. Twitchy will train them how to be swift and agile. They must always keep their eyes open in case the cold outside comes to sweep them back into the purple plains. They are both actually crazy and delusional. Cockery is a Mary Sue hero looking for vengeance on the evil man who destroyed his clan of ninja macaws. Twitchy is running, running, always running from the star makers who force her to forever travel the purple plains. This is a couple very much in love. They both admire each others strength and will to press on. Cockery and Twitchy are ecstatic to be parents, because the baskets are a shining beacon of hope in the dark, dank, scary night.

Personality: Kipenzi is truly a wild heart. Born in the harsh dry grasslands, she never let her hard life bring her down. She loves wide open spaces, running, and swimming. She’s extremely social, loving to meet new people and will strike up conversation with anyone who is willing to listen. She’s friendly, but a bit flighty. She’s prone to forget things easily, sometimes has a hard time keeping long-term friends because of her short attention span. She can have a fiery temper and can be snippy, but everything to her is easy to forget and forgive after she’s blown off steam (and sometimes can’t realize that other Soquili might not forgive so easily).
History: Kipenzi was born in the middle of the dry seasons in the hot grasslands of the Middle Country. Times were harsh, and the only food readily available were dry grasses which provided little nutrition. Despite all this, Kipenzi grew up healthy and happy. Her heard was small, but loving, and she loved how open and free it seems to be. The grasslands seemed to spread out forever like the sky itself. When she was a young filly, Kipenzi saved a young wolf pup runt that she found abandoned under some rocks. They subsequently became best friends and now Akida follows Kipenzi everywhere. When Kipenzi was a young mare, she decided to go on a trek to find the end of the grasslands, as the Elder in her heard told her they were never-ending. But lo and behold, she did, and eventually came to settle at the coast in the land of the Kiwani tribe.

Personality: Malach HaMavet, despite her foreboding appearence, is a surprisingly impassive soquili. She views herself as outside of life, watching, and fulfilling her duties. She says that her heart dried up and turned to dust long, long ago.
She is the angeni of death - but does not choose when it is time for others to pass on - merely presides over the passing, an usher between life and the great unknown.
She bears the mask of death itself - a terrifying visage that reminds others of their own mortality - weathered by time. Her eyeless face is a symbol of her neutrality - she doesn't care how great or how small one was in life - to her, they are the same.
Malach is not social. She dwells in forgotten places, not caring about aesthetics or keeping things around her in good repair. From her home, she can preside over prophecies and uses other divining methods - aware of when a soquili comes to a crossroad in their life - where a decision may lead to their death, or their survival. In these situations, her shadow figuratively looms over them, waiting to see if she will reap their soul, or withdraw to meet them again at a future venture. It makes no difference to her if a soul is taken sooner or later - though sometimes she is aware of possible repercussions if one lives or dies.

History: Nessa’s mother, Melena, was accused of infidelity when her first child, Elphaba, was born a strikingly different color than her parents. Determined to create a beautiful, pale child like herself, Melena obsessively rubbed an oil made from milkflowers over the basket. Unbeknownst to her, however, the milk flowers had a toxic effect in such quantity. As a result, Nessarose was born horribly crippled. Her front legs were underdeveloped, and her back legs were weak and could not support her weight. Distraught, Melena sought the help of a medicine woman to save her daughter. The spells seemed to work, and with minimal side effects. Her front legs grew dark black, but grew to their proper length in a matter of a few months. Her back hooves were enchanted, turning her hooves ruby red. But regardless of these few eccentricsies, she eventually was able to move around as a normal pony.

Her father, Frex, did not question her parentage like he did with Elphaba, so he doted on her her entire foalhood life. When she finally left home, she was not used to not having everything given to her on a silver platter, and this spoiled attitude soon soured into malicious jealousy. She is jealous of her older sister, Elphaba, who she believes knows Magic and did not offer to help her with her disabilities when she was younger. There is a well circulated rumor, that once she fell in love with a stallion who loved someone else. In a fit of jealousy, she tried to turn him into an otter. She denies this rumor, of course, but if interrogated, she insists it was Elphaba who cast the spell.

Sin'dorei is a pedigree steed that was born into a pampered life. However, when sold to a two-legger that did not treat her properly, she learned quickly of a hard life. Finally coming to the realization that she could live for herself like the wild horses she had seen, she escaped one night and is exploring a life of new independence. Was she truly treated as bad as she thought when she was in the care of her master, or was she just accustomed to a padded life in the stables?

She is respectful to others, soquili and two-legs alike, considering herself a representative of her breed in these new lands. She is not quite sure what to make of freedom or these strange lands, or exactly how she is supposed to act.
History: Sin'Dorei is one of the elite breed of "hawkstrider" steeds bred by two-leggers for their speed and elegant plumage. While they do bear the wings from their ancestors (winds or hippogriffs is unknown, though the two-legs that bred them claim ancestry to hawks themselves, hence the name), most (Sin'Dorei included) are no longer capable of flight. This makes them more managable by their handlers, but still bears the coveted trait of being winged and feathered horses.

When she reached maturity, she was sold for a high price to an owner who took her from the stables she knew and her family, and instead of keeping her in the manner she was accustomed to. However, she was not treated with the respect that a steed of her breeding deserved:, she was ridden hard and treated very poorly. She was taken into dangerous territories,her plumage not properly cared for, and fed terribly. One night, when her owner neglected to secure her bridle to a tree as he usually did, she slipped away, and began her own adventure that led her into the Kawani lands...

Personality: Yurei is an intense, creepy mare in every sense of the word. Once a beautiful, kind unicorn, she has been robbed of her horn and it has left her a vindictive shell of what she once was. The purity is gone - her coat, once a shining, pure white is now sickly colored, stained with dirt and grime. Her long, luxurious black mane and tail hang limply, tangled and wet. Beautiful white ribbons have been drug through the mire and dirt, and her gaze is a seething, wicked stare. The unicorn that she once was is dead - the only remnants of the proud creature she was is her cloven hooves and a gaping hole in the center of her forehead. Yurei walks the world caught somewhere between life and death.
A part of her is truly missing - the horn representing the goodness, kindness that once embodied this mare. And now she walks the Kawani lands in search of her missing horn so that she can once more be whole. And in the meantime, all others seem as tainted to her as she is and most are possible outlets for her vengeful anger. Particularly, unicorns are targets of her anger - seeking to take from them what was taken from her, and humans - took it from her. She makes no distinctions between the Kawani people or other settlers to the land - blinded by her rage. She is tireless in her madness, misery, and pain, and truly a blight on the land.
Some Kawani storytellers speak late at night of a sickly-looking mare that shimmers as a spirit and brings death to those foolish enough to approach her.
History: Yurei was a beautiful young unicorn mare that hailed from the far East. She arrived with Ryujin, Tanuki, and a few other soquili in this new world, but shortly after her arrival, something terrible happened to her. Another visitor to the lands - a white settler who had never seen a unicorn before - hunted her and took her horn, leaving her for dead. Perhaps she did die and now roams the land a spirit, or perhaps she lived and wanders broken and mad. But many who encounter her (and live to tell the tale) say that she walks between, a vengeful ghost.

History: Angelina was born from a small, rough-around-the-edges herd to the north of the main Soquili lands. It was a rag-tag herd that included a hodge-podge of mixed-blood Soquili and a few usdia. Angelina never knew who her father was, nor was she never close to her mother. She knew she was an accident, the herd barely had enough food for the Soquili that were there already, but she did her best to provide for her daughter. However, Angelina never quite felt like her mom ever really accepted her like she wished she would. She became a rebellious young mare, looking for any excuse to leave her small little herd and go on some adventure.

One day, that moment came. Strange, pale-faced two-leggers crossed their path once, riding Soquili dressed in strange clothing with strange accents. Most of Angelina's herd was fearful of the newcomers, but Angelina was simply excited. This is when she met Ambrose. Ambrose was a dream come true for her... gentle, handsome, polite, pure-blooded, noble, and witty. Though proud, he was shy at first, but after a few conversations they grew into fast friends. Ambrose spoke extensively about his journey across the giant waters of the oceans, about his city and stables back home in France, and about the journey he made to these new 'savage' lands. He was quite surprised to find that Angelina was not a savage of all, but instead a very kind and spirited soul.

They made plans to leave her herd together and seek a new life in the great Soquili lands to the south. There, they could live freely, doing as they pleased, loving each other, and raising a family. In the dead of night, under the full moon, they left and never planned to look back.

However, this blissful future came to an abrupt end. Two nights later, Angelina awoke in the morning and Ambrose was nowhere to be found. She searched for hours, and found a little ways off evidence of a bloody batter. Wolf prints, hoof prints, and an ample amount of blood was all that remained of Angelina's lover.

Devastated and heartbroken, she eventually made it to the Soquili lands alone. She's been quiet and reserved ever since, but paradise has lost all of its color to her now. Something in her makes it impossible for her to let go of Ambrose, a drive that says there must be a reason he left. But in her many months of searching she has yet to find any answers.

Personality: Rumors abound that she is a wicked witch. Some believe she consorts with skinwalkers, others claim she simply is a vengeful sorceress. In reality, Elphaba might be a bit jaded, she seems hardly ‘wicked.’ She’s rather shy and untrusting, and though she might come across as abrasive or bitter, those who are close to her know she is fiercely loyal.
History: Melena, Elphaba’s mother, was mated to a stallion named Frex. Frex was the leader of his herd and a very pious and steadfast Soquili. Melena, though she loved her mate, was a wild heart and did not like that Frex’s attentions often had to be split between herself and the herd. Because of this, her affection was known to wander. Some time after a particularly mysterious and exciting wandering stallion passed through their lands, Melena produced a basket. Their first child, Frex was simply ecstatic about bearing an heir, however, when his daughter was born, there was obviously a problem. Frex was a nearly sold white stallion, with just a few brown specs in his mane. Melena was a light cream-furred mare, with a mane and tail the color of rich honey. The filly, however, was born a startling bright shade of green, with a jet black mane and haunting eyes. This was obviously no child of Frex’s. Melena swore her innocence to her mate, and though Frex forgave her, he never believed Elphaba was his child. He openly resented her, and when her little sister was born some time later, he virtually disowned her to spend all his affections and grooming to Nessarose.

Elphaba was understandably withdrawn as a young mare, and had an uncanny interest in witchcraft and other dark arts. Though she claimed she never cast any spells, most do not believe her. Her reputation of being a ‘witch’ was further spread by Nessarose, who accused her of turning her mate in an otter in a fit of jealousy.

Despite all her eccentricities, Elphaba did manage to make a few friends. Galinda was a spoiled bratty unicorn that used to torture Elphaba a filly. But Galinda was a lot smarter and more caring than most people gave her credit for, and Elphaba was the first to notice this. They eventually became odd but loyal friends. Through Galinda, Elphie met Fiyero, a handsome princely stallion who she would fall in love with.

Little Red was crushed, scared, and lost on what to do.

Eventually, however, her curiosity and restlessness got the better of her and she decided it was time to grow up and head off on her own. Gathering all her possessions in a little wicker basket her mother gave her - and wearing her precious red cloak she had since she was a filly - she set off into the woods on her own, looking to make her own life somewhere out there.

Personality: Mahi is ambitious, friendly, and excitable. She’s incredibly naïve, and doesn’t quite understand the dangers of the world. No matter how many people tell her differently, she thinks she’s just as capable on land as she in water. In reality, while she can walk and breath on land, she’s incredibly clumsy and awkward. She must stay near water to keep from being dried out, and when she’s excited or happy she tends to squeal or blow bubbles.
History: Mahi was being delievered by Ajadi to the Kawani tribe, when two hawks swooped upon him and stole the two shells he was carrying. He cried for help, unable to follow after the birds (being a merman and all), and Stormwild happened to be about. She herded the hawks until they dropped the heavy shells closer to ground where they would not be damaged, Ajadi was very grateful, giving Stormwild care of one of the shells in gratitude. Storm accepted, against her better judgment, and took the shell back to the mountains. Her and Kamiki Ahawi build a special leather-lined basket that could hold water so Storm could protect the shell in her homelands.

Upon Mahi’s “hatching” – Stormwild knew that she would have to release Mahi into the ocean so she could be with her own kind. She is currently on the hunt for a suitable caretaker for her finned adoptive daughter. Update 07/13/08: Stormwild eventually found someone to care for Mahi and now she's all grown up, just as comfortable in water as she is on land. She's made some new friends, most notably NobleHeart, a handsome stallion. She doesn't quite know what he makes her feel, but so far its been pleasant!

History: Narci was born to a ground Soq mother in a sothern herd. She was young her mate, Narci's father, was a free-spirited flutter who had left her lands long before she knew she was pregnant. She was not part of her a herd, and being completely on her own (her parents had long ago been killed by wolves), she struggled to raise her son. Much to her distress, Narci looked almost exactly like his father, a bitter and painful reminder to his mother of the mate that left her. These combined factors eventually led to Narci's mother's bitter resentment of her son. Of course she loved him and did her best to take care of him, but she grew cold and detatched from her maternal instincts before Narci was ever old enough to have an idea of why. The moment Narci could flap his wings and fly long distances on his own, he left his homeland and never looked back, seeking new adventures in a new home. He tries not to let anyone get too close, but he does have one good friend, Azure. He also has a familiar named Echo, a little lost bunny who fell instantly in love with Narci and has yet to ever leave his side. She is extrememly jealous of any attentions he gives towards mares.

Personality: Oracle is a nice young buck, friendly and personable. He doesn't think he's any more special than any other buck of his age, and finds it very uncomfortable for him when Cerynei come to him for advice or guidance. He's loyal to the Prince and followed him out of the ancestral lands to the Kiwani lands. He tries to live his life as a normal Cerynei; making friends and flirting with pretty does. He avoids trying to fit the mantle that his parents has thrust upon him.
History: When he was born, his birth was heralded throughout the Cerynei lands. The birth of a white stag is considered a great omen; a symbol of great importance. His parents named him Oracle to represent the significance of his birth. They expected him to grow up to be a noble, wise leader - one that all the Cerynei could look to for advice and council. However, despite the great expectations mantled upon him, Oracle grew up to be... just a normal young buck. He's well mannered and polite, but Oracle never quite felt like he was any different than any of this fellow Cerynei. He didn't feel enlightened, gifted, or any way "special' that his parents insisted that he was. Occasionally other Cerynei would come to him for leadership or advice, always making Oracle feel awkward.

When the time came, and the Prince of the Cerynei made the decision to leave his homeland, many of the Cerynei turned to the guidance of Oracle, vowing to follow him in his decision to leave or stay. He hated the weight of the decision, pleading for everyone to make their own decision. In the end he decided to follow the Prince out of the lands, and prays it was the right decision to make, as he feels responsible for those that looked to him for signs.

History: Quetzalcoatl hails from the Central America jungles, where the Mayan and Aztec tribes built huge pyramids. However, while Quetzalcoatl thrived there, and was even worshipped by some of the people there, a scourge came to the land in the form of foreigners on ships from across the ocean. They slaughtered the people and pillaged the land of its wealth. He tried to stay, help the soquili there, and defend the people, but in the end, it was a losing battle and Quetzalcoal moved North to where he heard that the soquili were still plentiful, and the people still had freedom.

History: Gavin and Piggy were part of a small herd of Usdias. One day when they were out wandering a bit further than they should have, a coyote saw an easy meal with the tiny ponies and made a grab for the little Gavin. Piggy, always the braver of the two, charged after it and was able to chase off the skinny predator. However, by the time she rescued her brother, they were pretty far from home. Eventually, the little pair was found by Kamiki Ahawi and taken in. In a gesture of friendship and to tighten their connection, she and Sabin each took a foal - to make sure that Sabin would make plenty of visits and keep the little Usdias in close contact. Also, the little usdias make perfect little messengers between the two-legs - allowing them to correspond by sending an usdia to go visit the other teepee.

Personality: Algedi sets high standards for himself and others. In his methodical, tough, stubborn, unyielding way, he persists against personal hardship. He puts the ones he calls family before his own needs and to help them reach their objectives long after they may have have given up and fallen by the wayside. Algedi, however, also can be wary and cautious around soquili he do not know very well, preferring not to meddle with others and in turn does not allow interference with his own thoughts and feelings. Algedi has an enormous admiration for those who have paved the way to similar goals of his own. While he will help the others behind him with quiet advice (that can be bluntly honest and critical) but will not accept their defeats as his own.

Personality: Opal is quiet and mysterious often bearing a beguilling smile. She speaks softly and demurely, however there is a glisten in her eyes that seems to indicate that she is not the innocent that she may pretend to be. Opal, as a matter of fact, takes more after the legends of the sea sirens than the playful, benevolent mermaids. While beautiful and exotic, there is a dangerous edge to the mer-soquili. She knows that she is beautiful and will use her charms and beauty to lure an unsuspecting stallion - or man who perhaps wishes to tame such a lovely mare - close.

Opal is particuarly entertained by the newly-discovered realm of land where there exists soquili and men who are unable to breathe under the water. She has no love for the air-breathers who are unknowledgable in the rich beauties of the undersea. She lures them like an embodiment of the beautiful, mysterious ocean itelf - but is every bit as capricious and fickle, and dangerous as the waters that bore her. She may very well try to drown one who reaches out for the exotic beauty- or if she finds herself in danger, strike out with sharp fins and hooves.

Among her own kind, Opal is less outright devious. But, she knows herself to be the proverbial jewel of the sea. She acts shy and innocent, especially to the stallions, but truthfully just seeks to wrap them around her fins. She knows that charm can get her quite far - especially in the form of trusting, naieve and strong stallions and beautiful gifts. Opal is quite vain. She is not fond at all of other sea-mares, viewing them as competition at best, or intolerably naieve at worst - or the mer-people. And even to the stallions, Opal is not likely one to stick around for very long. Once she gets all she thinks she can from a stallion, or if she begins to grow bored, she will move on.

Opal keeps any personal information private. She does not like to talk about her self beyond surface matters. She wants to remain mysterious and does not want to give any the opportunity to get in her head. If pressed, she will like create some sort of fabricated story.
History: Opal never knew her father, but then, her mother was very much like herself - manipulative, beautiful and vain. She grew up with a view on males that they were physically strong, but easily blinded by beauty and could be manipulated with a practiced look and turn of the head. Without a father figure, and with the guidence of her strong-willed mother, Opal has very little respect for men other than what she can get out of them - be it gifts or a bit of entertainment. Her mother also influenced her strong will and vow to remain unbroken by the hands of men. She learned from a young age by the example of her mother just what such charms could get her - and even assisted in her mother's games to lead on an idealistic stallion by feigning weakness and the need for support. She parted ways with her mother when she came of age; while she has no ill will towards her mother, that section of sea was too small for two such mares.
