Solo RP

It was a complete mystery that Rayna yearned to solve. However it had happened, no one knew, or if they did, they refused to give up precious information. It did not matter though to the teen standing outside the perimeter. To Rayna it was just another mystery that she needed to solve. The teen eyed the dilapidated building with a critical look. The barbed wire that sat on top of the chain link fence would have been a powerful deterrent if she had not learned of a section of fence that had been pulled apart. The teen hefted her shoulder bag from off the ground where it had been dropped unceremoniously earlier on. Rayna’s thoughts flitted from one option to another on how to get inside. She figured that the hole in the fence idea would be the easiest method of access into the yard. Rayna’s gaze shot to the left and as she turned to walk the perimeter of the fence. The sun had finally set a mere twenty minutes ago and if she did not make her move soon it would be too late to investigate. It was what Rayna had been lying low for. She had been loitering and watching for any signs of security. Having come to the realization that the site was unsecured bolstered Rayna’s spirits and her determination to go through with this. She would be able to enter the property unobserved. That suited her just fine.

It had been a few weeks ago while working on research for another school project that Rayna had stumbled across an article that had piqued her interest. There had been multiple reports of strange occurrences around the property she now stood in front of. The reports had varied but there was a common belief that the place was haunted. At reading that phrase Rayna’s excitement had jumped into overdrive. Nights had been spent looking up incident reports and compiling information. Her conclusion was that the property definitely showed signs of the paranormal. It was going to be an interesting night. Rayna had allotted herself several hours of investigation time before she would have to return home. It was not in her agenda to be grounded once more. The teen reached into her bag and pulled out a flashlight and a mini tape recorder. These seemed to be her tools of the trade. With nothing in her path to stop her Rayna ducked through the hole in the fence and quickly darted across the dying lawn to the back entrance. It was times like these that she was glad of her research. The back door had been ripped aside and besides a few pieces of hastily placed two-by-fours across the door frame there was nothing preventing Rayna from entering the building. Slowly, and with heightened caution, Rayna proceeded through the doorway under the crossed pieces of lumber. Rayna’s fingers flicked the switch on her flashlight as she swung the device around lighting up the darkened interior. The building truly was in shambles.

Her voice was quiet as she turned on the mini tape recorder and began talking into it. Her voice trembled before becoming stronger. She gave the date and time and the address of the house that she was currently in. The details noted Rayna moved through the house. Her voice became stronger as she asked her usual questions always allowing a bit of time for any responses. It was disappointing to always go through her tape once she returned home and realize that she had not captured any EVPs. Rayna had done all the research on investigating the possibility of the paranormal and learned all the terms but she was still only fifteen and quite new to investigating. She wanted to change that. She wanted to be recognized one day but there would be plenty of time later to improve on techniques. Sitting down carefully on the stairway leading to the second floor Rayna dug into her bag and quietly downed a granola bar. She washed down the bar with a bottle of water before realizing that her time was growing shorter. Brushing off her jeans Rayna stood and made her way to the doorway. Her head turned at the sound of a door slamming from somewhere inside. As strong as the allure was to return to her investigation Rayna knew that she would face another week or two of house arrest if she missed her curfew again. Rayna clicked on her voice recorder once more as she stood outside the residence once more. She noted her end time of the investigation and what she had heard as she was leaving. If anything Rayna felt that she would be returning to this site once more. There had to be something here. She was confident in her assumption.

There was a moment’s hesitation before Rayna dropped her flashlight and recorder back into her shoulder bag. Skirting the side of the house the teen found the hole in the fence easily and darted into the shadows. She slowed her pace after a few blocks of jogging. It would not do well to be spotted running away from an area that was considered off limits. Slowing her pace to a walk Rayna checked her watch for the time. A sigh of relief echoed down the empty street. It would appear that she had timed everything pretty well. Her fingers itched to bring out her recorder but she held off. There would be plenty of time later to review her tape. Rayna’s gaze tracked a shadowed figure on the other side of the street before turning the corner. Her mind flashed back to the disappearances that happened around Destiny City and the reports of terrorists. So far she had been lucky in the sense that all of the strange events that had occurred had seemingly bypassed her by completely. She only hoped that her luck would continue to hold in that pattern. There was nothing to be gained by becoming a target this late in the game. With a final push of energy Rayna strolled up her street and into the driveway of her home. It looked like she had avoided being grounded once again. Learning to respect the rules her parents placed on her was becoming easier but she still had to lie about her destinations. There was a tiny thrill in her small acts of rebellion and it was even tougher not to tell her parents about what she had done or seen even though she was keen to share her experiences.

For now though she had to keep quiet.

A Taste of Winter

There was just something so magical about being able to walk around town freely while enjoying the first snowfall of the winter season. Rayna would have loved to be down on the street below taking in all the Christmas displays and perhaps hunkering down in a cafe for a cup of hot chocolate later on but it was not meant to be. Instead she had taken to the rooftops after powering up into Sailor Myrrha. As a senshi on the side of order Myrrha had not really put forth the effort to branch out on her contacts. That would be one of the things that she would try to change in the new year. From listening to how Maia explained things the senshi of scents had learned that it was probably too risky to continue fighting alone. It was imperative that Myrrha find someone who could take her under their wing, so to speak.

For now though the glow of stores below cast enough shadow above that Myrrha was content to sit on a rooftop staring at the sky above. Tiny flakes of snow peppered her face and Myrrha realized that although being a senshi carried a lot of responsibility there was also time in which she could just be herself. Perhaps this was one of those times. There was a hint of resignation in her next sigh as she took a peek at her watch. Her curfew was still a couple of hours away but she still needed to continue with her patrol route. With school winding down for the winter break she had been finding it easier to have nights in which there was no schoolwork waiting to be done and she was allowed to get in extra patrol time under the guise of shopping for Christmas gifts.

Although there was still a week left in which to shop Rayna had just about found the perfect gift for everyone. There was still a question on what she would get for her parents. She had even picked out a little gift for Maia, as a way to express her thanks to the Eternal senshi. If it had not been for the senshi of song Myrrha would still be floundering away at learning the ropes. She had taken what little she knew and gone ahead to purchase a tiny blown glass musical note to represent Maia's power sphere. It seemed like it was a good idea at the time.

Pulling her jacket tighter around her body Myrrha got to her feet and eyeballed the street below once more. She had not really meant to spend so much time in one place but it had seemed peaceful enough to merely remain stationary. Walking the length of the roof Myrrha jumped to the adjacent building and began to move with a purposeful stride. She was not sure who or what she would meet on this patrol but she would be ready for almost anything. It had been uneventful so far and she momentarily prayed it would remain so for the rest of her patrol. She was looking forward to a nice long soak when she got home. It would take care of the cold she was feeling.

Preparations Underway

There was a lot to prepare for. Rayna eyed the bag that was sitting innocuously on her bed just begging to be filled with items. From various open drawers around her room did she pull out jeans and shirts and other pieces of clothing that would be of use. Research told her one thing about her homeworld and it's general location in the Sol system but the research that scientists wrote up on the general composition of Myrrha meant nothing to the actual hands on experience that she was willing to at least try once. She owed it to the world that bestowed her with her magic to at least visit once. If she didn't like what she saw then it was easy enough to ignore the urge to go up there anymore.

With the clothes situation taken care of Rayna next turned to some basic food supplies that would keep her from starving on her world while she did the exploration thing. Most of the food that went into her bag was of the non-perishable variety like granola bars and trail mix. Water was a necessity to take along as well. It was a shame that without the guarantee of anyplace to store perishable items that she couldn't take more food with her. Although she had sliced up a few apples and put them in an air-tight container for fresh fruit. A bit of cheese lay in another such container. Hey, if the items kept at least until she got there Rayna would make her first official business to have the grandest of feasts ... of cheese and apple slices. Rayna had also swiped the remainder of the slices of ham that she had found in the fridge to take with her. Ideally she wanted to take something that could last but this would have to do. Protein, fruit and grains ... along with a lot of water and a few bottles of soda and she figured she was set. After a hasty thought the young woman threw in a bag of regular potato chips. Beggars couldn't be choosers and well, Rayna liked the odd bag of chips to munch on.

Next came the most important items that she needed and Rayna deferentially placed her senshi phone and henshin pen into the bag at the very top. She would need these objects as soon as she put enough distance between her home and her chosen place to power up. Shrugging her coat on the young woman left her room before placing an unsealed envelope on the kitchen table for her parents to find when they returned home. In it lay a note explaining that she was going to go on a small hiking trip. She wouldn't be reachable by cellphone for at least thirty-six hours and would check in as soon as she was back in range of cell service. Rayna hoped that would be a reasonable amount of time to do a basic exploration of her world. Shoving her feet into her newly purchased hiking boots did the young woman grab the sleeping bag and umbrella that she had left at the door before exiting her home and locking the door behind her. Slipping her house key into her coat pocket Rayna tugged on a pair of light gloves before trundling off in the direction that indicated she was indeed going for an extended hike. Her planning had been precise down to what needed to be said, what needed to be packed, and what she hoped to find. Now all of that was going to be put to the ultimate preparedness test. Would she pass or fail?

Questions/Learning/A Path Forward

Myrrha. An asteroid floating in space. Dead. Uninhabitable. Void of life. Yet, when she had gone up to her asteroid for the first time there had been something that seemed alive. Even if she had not realized it at that exact moment. Her world had accepted her presence. It had not tried to drive her off, it did not bar her entry. It had literally laid out the welcome mat for her even as she had nearly been seriously injured upon arrival. Perhaps if she were to go back up there she could have a serious discussion about the dangers of trying to kill the protector of the world by bringing them inches away from a cliff's edge. Even as Rayna thought more and more about what she had seen she had to admit that she couldn't yet make heads or tails about what her dream, or was it a vision, meant. The location of her world was further out than that of Earth so where had that massive wave of energy come from? Was it from somewhere further out in the Sol system, from beyond the great gas giants that were Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. No matter what the history books were being rewritten to say, Pluto would always still be a planet in her eyes.

So if the energy hadn't come from the Sun, something must have hit Myrrha from beyond. It was the only explanation. That left Rayna with trying to figure out just what she had seen and trying to find anything that using Google search would be able to provide in the ways of answers.

The first idea of being straightforward with her questions was soon dashed. Even if she felt daring enough to be honest with her questions she was certainly doomed to fail. Instead it took a measured approach in trying to garner answers. First things first ... involved asking google about ELEs or extinction level events. Rayna knew from science that the asteroid that had struck the Earth had been considered an ELE asteroid as it had effectively sent the dinosaurs into extinction. The next query was a little more worthy of connecting the dots, as it were. Rayna typed in the question about whether or not extinction level events could affect other bodies in space that were not planets. Of course she wasn't really expecting a suitable answer to this query and thus when all the results seemed to talk about Earth the computer was turned off. Rayna hadn't really believed that the internet would be able to help her out in her search. No, what she needed to do was to keep visiting her home world to get the complete story about what had occurred many years into the past. Closing her eyes for a moment the young woman almost flinched as a condensed replay of what she had seen in her dreams continued to play over the closed lids. Why was it that she felt at times that she had seen something similar in the way that the energy wave crashed over her home?

What was she missing? Why could she not figure out the mystery just yet of what the cryptic images meant? Was she even meant to understand? That was the hard thing for Rayna to accept. The not knowing of it all. Could she be at all satisfied with letting any possible answers slip away from her because she was just not dedicated enough to put in all the effort that she could in order to figure out answers: the answer to that was no. It was plain and simple. She could not refuse to give up on searching out whatever means that she could find in order to get potential answers to what had happened to Myrrha. She owed her asteroid that much.

Knowing that the internet was a dead end meant there had to be another avenue of information out there just waiting to be explored. Rayna's gaze turned to the henshin pen that she had recently returned to the top of her nightstand before thinking about all the other senshi that were probably more versed in space travel than she was. Heck, even Scylla had been seemingly thriving when she had gone to visit. Did the amount of time spent on a world matter? Maybe it did. Maybe this would be a question that she could query of the next white moon senshi that she encountered. Would it be right to subject just one senshi to what was tantamount to an interrogation though? Or could she space out the information gathering to various senshi that had been able to go home? Scratching at her nose in thought did Rayna also think about the various knights that thrived alongside the senshi in Destiny City. Could they also provide any answers to the questions that she was now having to deal with?

Rayna's gaze went back to her henshin pen before she moved across the room to place it reverently inside the drawer to her night stand before sighing softly. Right now as much as it pained her to admit it to herself. The path forward that she wanted to take would have to wait just a little bit longer. There seemed to be too much on her plate all at once. The trip home had been an eye opener and something that had needed to be done but it brought with it a whole slew of problems that the young woman was not sure she could add to the struggles of daily life in Destiny City. Eventually there would come a time when she would be freer to do whatever it was that she wanted or needed to do, but that day wasn't here just yet. There were things that needed more immediate action. More things that demanded her attention. Things like colleges and jobs ... and rent. With the responsibilities that were quickly piling up on her shoulders it felt as if she were being blasted apart. Much like those in her dream had been.

Moving back to her desk Rayna grabbed from beside her desk a freshly bought lined notebook before she began to make lists of things that she needed to focus on. As much as she wanted to throw out all the real life issues, those were just as important to her as was her ability to be a senshi. Flipping to the first page the young woman began to list the various campuses of Destiny City that could provide her with a post-secondary education and in which courses she might be interested in registering for. In her mind, she would never be the smartest in the room but she could hold her own. The only field that she seemed truly interested in was archaeology and that was because she was always keen to learn about the past that she usually could find with her metal detecting and various treasures that she found in shops. It was a shame that the paranormal wasn't something that most typical colleges didn't seem to offer courses in as she would have been packed up and ready to jet away to places unknown if that had been the case. Looking at the sparseness of the words on the page did Rayna flip to a new page before writing and underlining the single word of JOBS at the top. There were a lot of possibilities here but Rayna was adamant that her first job wasn't going to be scraping the lowest of entry jobs into the workforce. She wanted something with a little more pizzazz than being the one person serving customers in a restaurant with the banal and oft repeated question of "do you want fries with that?" Fast food restaurants were definitely off the list. But where did that leave her then? What else could she do in the meantime in order to start saving away for the courses that would help her spread her wings and fly? An ideal job would be something that meant she could deal with relics of the past and be able to share her knowledge of the item in real time and perhaps that meant finding a job at a museum as perhaps first a janitor and work her way up. Or perhaps there were other avenues open to her that she hadn't thought of yet.

Feeling just a little bit more cheered up on the path that her brainstorming session had come up with Rayna flipped over to one last clean page and began to write down everything that she could remember of her visit to Myrrha. The more details that she could explain to another senshi that was well acquainted with planetary travel meant the better she would be able to explain what it was she had seen and encountered. This last page turned into a few which were then gently separated from her notebook in order to be safely tucked away into her subspace pocket the next time she powered up. For now they were placed under her transformation pen for safekeeping as she exited her room in search of a bite to eat. Maybe, just maybe, having a road map of some sort of direction meant that she was growing up ... growing wiser ... just growing in general, and that was a good thing to know.
