Quote:
The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains:

Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park.

The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.”

If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

In the stillness of the midnight hour did a certain purple-haired senshi approach the center of town and the Wishing Tree before staring at up at the branches that swayed above her and the various bits of paper that littered the lower branches that were in reach of eager hands that would pluck the wishes off. Myrrha wasn't here for the wishes that were already hanging among the various sections of the tree. No she was here to add to the multiple wishes that already adorned the leaves. Reaching for a slip of paper and a pen did the super senshi of scents jot down what wish she would leave for the public ... and then on another piece of paper would she write down what it was that she wished for in her life of a senshi.

The public one came first though, placing the tip of the pen in her mouth Myrrha thought long and hard before writing down a simple wish:

Quote:
I wish that everyone could work together to fix the damage done to our beautiful city.

With that wish written down did Myrrha tie the piece of paper into a low lying branch before grabbing the one that was it's neighbor. She wasn't sure what she was going to get herself into if she couldn't manage to grant the wish that was written down but she was going to try.

Placing the pen that she had used to write down her first wish Myrrha sighed before writing down her secret wish as a senshi before tucking it into her sleeve. That one would go unseen. It was as she was getting ready to depart that another aura sprang up nearby and Myrrha ducked behind the trunk of the tree before peeking around the edge. The aura was similar to a senshi of order, but also different from her own and she watched with bated breath to see just who would show up.

Urania had looked over the tiny slip of paper over and over and over again.

Quote:
I wish people would stop and look up at the stars.

And every time she read it, she wondered the same thing: Was this a good wish?

She had found the tree when she first found the Star Festival earlier on its first day and she had pondered her wish ever since. It was now night and she had finally come to return the sheet of paper she had taken. But was this the sort of wish the people of Destiny City would make?

Usually, she wouldn’t have cared so much what other people thought but she was so, so new here. So new it almost hurt. She remembered using her glamour for the very first time just to approach the tree earlier in the day. Each step she took was over run with intrusive thoughts. Was his guise convincing? Did she look like a human? Were her eyes still too bright?

Could she ever hope to pass as an earthling?

At least, here, in the dark of night, she didn’t have to think of that. She did, however, have to still be careful. Not for civilians, but for people like her.

“Are you here to put a wish on the tree, too?” Urania asked as she found the other senshi. “We tie our wishes to the tree, right?”

Considering that the other senshi was making no moves to attack her Myrrha slid back around the trunk to stare up at the wishes that were still there. Her gaze slid to inspect the newcomer before she gave a simple shrug of her shoulders, "I think that's how it works. You tie your wish up onto a branch and then pick a wish to take with you and see if you can grant it."

Myrrha's thoughts quickly turned to her blank piece of paper that was going to be meant for her private wish as her senshi self before taking a closer look at the senshi that was holding onto a piece of paper before she allowed a soft smile to grace her features, "you see, I'm sort of new at this too. It's the first time that I've felt like I needed to put a wish of my own onto the tree. I don't think that there are any specific places to tie your wish up, just choose a place that speaks to you," Myrrha's gaze was drawn to the lavender hair of the senshi beside her before quickly writing down her more private wish. The visit to her home world had been an eye-opening surprise and she wasn't sure how one could even go about asking a more travelled senshi for advice. Instead of dwelling on things though Myrrha turned to check that her public wish was tied tightly onto the branch before facing the newcomer, "I don't think I've seen you around before. I'm Myrrha, the super senshi of scents. Who do I have the honor of meeting?"

“Oh! So you take one, too? There was a custom like that on my father’s world. But they just left the wishes on the tree. My mother used to tell me about it all the time.”

Come to think of it, that was one of the only things she knew about her father back then and now. Her mother used to tell her the story.

But where would she tie this wish? She could put it anywhere.

“Nice to meet you, too, Myrrha. My name is Urania. Senshi of Astronomy.”

It was kind of interesting how Urania talked about the past as if she were still a part of it. Myrrha, still being new to the whole "visit your homeworld" shtick thought maybe it was something that everyone was eventually able to learn all about there planet's past. Maybe Urania was one of those senshi, though a lesser level of power, who had visited their world enough times to get more than just bits and pieces of a larger story. So far with the one visit that she had made to her own world Myrrha hadn't made any headway with figuring out what her world was like.

Nodding in response though to Urania's query the scents senshi looked back up at the tree before giving it a appraising look. Her voice, when she spoke, was warm, "I think that Destiny City encourages its residents to take a wish down, do their best to grant it, and then bury it when they've done the best they can. It has something to do with causing flowers to grow or something like that. I'm sure there's an explanation around here somewhere."

Moving to the tree Myrrha glanced around for an informative sign but sighed when nothing was found. Instead her attention went back to Urania as the other senshi introduced what she was the senshi of. If she hadn't been so much into her other hobbies Myrrha probably would have loved to spend time star-gazing but she did have other hobbies. "Well, Sailor Urania of Astronomy, I'm glad to have met you."

Moving back around the trunk of the rather large tree did Myrrha feel something brush against her foot and she glanced down to see the most interesting thing. It seemed as if there was a charm with stars on it of the most vibrant colors. Picking it up Myrrha studied the charm for a moment, noting the stars that dangled from the charm's hook before gently closing her fingers around the Opalescent colors of the stars.

"I don't think you have to take a wish if you don't want to ... it is just encouraged."

Urania grabbed a wish from the tree. What a neat custom! She would have to find some time to try and grant the wish.

“And you bury it after you grant it? I wonder if the paper is made of something good for the plants.”

She didn’t know much about flowers other than the potted ones that were on the window sill of the cafe. She liked to water those. On her own world, she didn’t really have the wide variety of flowers Earth had.

“Do you know when this custom of wish granting started?”

Myrrha made a thoughtful noise before allowing herself a moment of contemplation. This was the first ever year that she had come down to the event but the Star Festival itself had been going on for at least a few years before this one. Turning to glance at the tree above and then spinning in a slow circle to take in everything that was going on around the area marked off for the festival Myrrha nodded, more to herself than anything, before smiling at Urania, "I think, but I'm not quite certain, that it's been at least four years since the festival has been running. New things are added every year or so I'm told. Honestly, this is my first ever time down here. I'm not sure why but I kind of distrust events that are held at times."

Myrrha didn't want to dampen this new senshi's wonderment of everything that was good, but perhaps she should warn Urania about some of the stranger things that went on as well, "I should warn you though, don't let your guard down around the city. Things can and do happen around these sort of holidays that can't be explained. That being said ... I hope to try and partake more in things like this. I've missed too much it seems when I stepped away from my senshi duties."

Should she have admitted that last part ... she wasn't sure. But it was the truth. She had grown disillusioned with a lot of things over the period of time since she'd last been doing regular things.

“It’s my first time, too.”

Urania looked up at the tree. So the festival wasn’t that old. She had assumed customs like this had to be old. But that didn’t necessarily have to be the case. Not everything had to be old. Perhaps it was because she seemed to live both in the past and now that she assumed it must be something that’s been happening for many years. New things were invented all the time.

Urania perked up when Myrrha said she had distrust for events held at certain times. Was there a bit of superstition in here, too? Or had she noticed a pattern? Urania certainly didn’t know what to expect of the Star Festival other than what Yuri had told her.

“What kinds of things?” Her curiosity was piqued. “It’s my first time, too.”

Well, maybe I shouldn't have said anything, but everyone needs to be on their guard, right?

Urania was now looking at her with interest and Myrrha gave the other senshi a wan smile before nodding. She'd only ever experienced the strangeness around Halloween but there had been whispers of other things happening around winter and the Star Festival too, hadn't there?

Honesty counted for something and so Myrrha continued, "I only have experience with odd things happening around Halloween myself but I've heard rumours that things have happened around our Winter Festival and even this Star Festival too. With the latter two I can't verify the accuracy of reports but I've lived the horrors of Halloween. Trust me when I say you'll never look at spiders the same way again if you had come up against what a bunch of civilians faced one year."

She sighed, shoulders deflating for a moment before she continued, "it's more of a warning than anything else but just be on your guard, okay?"

brief correction needed. sorry for requote

“I will be on my guard.” Right. She was a senshi. She was supposed to be on the look out for things that could be dangerous to the people. Not be interested in the odd occurrences.

But she couldn’t help being just a little bit curious. She’d have to experience this Halloween and Winter Festival, too. If strange things happened at the Star Festival… maybe all festivals were just like that. Hot spots of the weird activity.

“You were saying you stepped away from your senshi duties for awhile. Was it because of the weird things that happen around the festivals?”

Myrrha gave a thoughtful pause in response to Urania's question about whether or not the seasonal events that caused her to step away. THinking back on what it had been that scared her Myrrha grimaced before she shook her head, "No, it's not the occurrences that happen around the events here in Destiny City, but I have a feeling that I needed a break after what occurred nearly two years ago now. There was a pretty large battle that happened on the outskirts ... and somehow during the fracas I almost lost sight of what it meant to be a white moon senshi. I know a lot of lives were changed that night. Order turned to chaos and chaos turned to order ... and lives were also lost."

Myrrha sighed, "I've also had issues with life at home which hasn't been easy to cope with." The second excuse was a pretty weak one overall but Myrrha wanted to prove to her folks that she was taking their suggestions seriously and it hadn't left a lot of time for patrolling, "But that being said, things have settled down a bit so I'm able to get out more."

“A large battle?”

Urania paused to take in what Myrrha had said. She had been told that Order and Chaos both existed here in Destiny City and that both factions were at war. But, to be honest, it had all been rather abstract. A concept more than anything. Yes, she had seen what Chaos could do to a world. She’d seen what it had down to her own. But they had barely had time then to even understand the it, much less actually fight it.

Yet, fighting was something that very much happen here in Destiny City, even if she had not yet been a part of it.

“I’m glad you are able to get out more. If not, I wouldn’t have met you!”

"Pretty large, yeah. There was a whole plan to try to send energy siphoned from a comet and direct it directly into the heart of the Negaverse in order to drive the chaos out once and for all, but apparently there were hidden agendas amongst the group that had built the technology to do what was intended."

Myrrha flashed back to that evening for a moment before she shook her head. It wouldn't do her any good remembering how she seemed to have been easily bested. But at Urania's comment of her being glad that Myrrha had lived allowed the woman a chance to truly smile. "I think eventually we might have crossed paths, eventually, but it's nice to hear that from someone who was very much a stranger to me before we met. I'm glad to have met you too Urania."

For a moment Myrrha was silent before thinking quickly, "Is there a chance that you would want to hang out more?" It was an out of the blue offer, but an honest one.

A comet? She wondered if that had been the same comet that had eventually awakened her.

“I’d love to meet again!” Urania was caught off guard at the offer, but her eyes sparkled like she was overjoyed. She fumbled with something in subspace. A brand-new lavender phone with light blue buttons and a star-charm. “Let me add you to this… device… I got from a Mauvian.”

Quickly drawing out her own senshi phone did Myrrha hide a quick grin. She was glad that Urania was open to the idea of meeting up again it and warmed her inside too. It might have been the fact that she'd just tied a wish up into the tree to help maybe get the city on the right track to fixing damage done to it, but it was her secret wish right now, not even written down yet, that looked to have possibly borne some goodwill towards her dream of becoming a better senshi.

For a good start was making new acquaintances for sure.
