Commodore Lyndin

Art by Guine and Blue

Commodore Lyndin is the official leader of The Vanguard. He is a Velencian: an alien species that comes from the synthetic world of Velencya, though he also has the honor of being one of the last remaining Velenians, born on their true homeworld of Velenia. He stands an impressive seven foot, two inches tall, and is in peak physical condition. His size is impressive but his strength even more so. He is muscular and has an imposing presence tempered only by his kind smile and respectful nature.

He is well trusted on Velencya; he is friendly, wise, dependable, and a team-player. He is always looking at what’s best for Velencya, and the Vanguard is his life’s work. He wants it to succeed and he strongly wants to reclaim their original homeworld. He is seen as a hero to his people, and is revered almost as a deity figure. He works excessively and is incredibly intelligent and brave; he has made many trips to secure resources to see his people succeed, and he isn’t known for failure. He has been involved in the training of every member of the Vanguard and gives patient, supportive advice and leadership. He is diplomatic, but can be assertive when needed, and is an expert at making fast, necessary decisions.

Lyndin is a role model to everyone on Velencya, and has been for nearly nine hundred years. Lyndin was part of the original Vanguard that traveled with Caedus to Earth to meet with Queen Beryl a thousand years ago. The Negaverse attacked the group and Caedus believed this to be her betrayal. However, the Vanguard had planned the attack on Caedus in the hope that he would be killed so his broken starseed could be extracted and returned to the Cauldron so a true Senshi could awaken. Lyndin believes that the only way to bring their battered homeworld back to life is by awakening the Senshi.

Sacrificing Caedus was the hardest thing he’d ever done, but when he learned that Caedus had survived--and returned to Velencya--he was committed to finishing the job. The Council of Elders on Velencia concoted the original plan, and pushed again to finish the job. Lyndin knows that their synthetic world will not last forever, and he knows that they need to create a stable world where they can grow and flourish. However, he is concerned that there are dark forces in the Chaos and he believes that the only reason Earth has survived for this long may be because of Metallia’s protection over it.

He has what appears to be a loose alliance with the Negaverse: in exchange for some Velencian technology, they will give the Vanguard the freedom to search for Caedus. Lyndin's involvement with the Negaverse has generally secured safety from them for the Vanguard, allowing them to do as they please. Lyndin does not make an effort to get in the Negaverse’s way but he does not seem to agree with all of their choices and believes that all life should be respected and honored. He understands necessary sacrifice for the good of the many, and he is willing to use his position and his resources to secure the safety of his people through this alliance. He does not expect all members of the Vanguard to follow him in this path, but he does expect them to continue their goal: find a way to restore life on Velenia and to fortify their defenses. He expects the Vanguard to help him find Caedus so they can return his starseed to the Cauldron, but he encourages everyone to continue researching if they think they can come up with something else.

He does not want to kill Caedus, but he knows that Caedus can never awaken as the Senshi and everything seems to indicate that Velenia cannot be restored without one. He hopes that they will find another way to restore their world without killing Caedus, but he knows they don’t have time and he is desperate to make progress.

Lyndin guides the Vanguard; he is capable of issuing missions, guiding them, and promoting them. He will always do his best to protect them and he respects and appreciates all of them. While he currently spends most of his time in the Dark Kingdom, keeping his eye on things and making sure the Negaverse is upholding their end of the bargain, he can meet anyone in Destiny City, either as he is or in a civilian glamour. He is presently healing from injuries sustained during a great battle so is forced to take it easy.

Hobbies:

The Vanguard -- Lyndin lives and breathes for Velencya, and he prioritizes the Vanguard and ensuring that they will grow and develop into a group that will continue to look after their people. He has spent all of his adult life devoted to trying to serve his people and improve their quality of life. He doesn’t remember a time when there was ever anything but the Vanguard. He knows he won’t be around forever so his goal is to personally train as many people as he can and instill upon them the lessons and skills he’s learned and developed. He has given up everything for the success of the Vanguard and will spend the rest of his life doing what he feels is best for them and for Velencya.

Research -- Lyndin doesn’t really do downtime; everything he does and enjoys is in some way done to benefit his people. He wants to learn anything and everything, and is a treasure trove of information himself. He is a wealth of knowledge and is always amassing more. He is prepared to learn about any topic and will always go the extra mile. He is hands-on in his research and, while he can read what others have discovered, he is always up to conduct his own investigations. He is always trying to stay on top of things, educate himself, and plan ahead.

Inventing -- Life on Velencya demands constant adaptation so Lyndin is used to taking a problem and finding a solution. He uses his experience and research to develop new and improved technologies. He likes to deconstruct things and find better ways to rebuild and improve them. He thinks Earth has very primitive technology and wants to do what he can to improve their lives.

Training -- Lyndin does not like combat but he understands that he must be prepared from any threat. There is an active war on Earth and he knows the safety of the Vanguard is at stake. Because he is aware of this threat, even if he doesn’t know what he might have to face, he does his best to stay in top shape. He wants to be physically able to defend against whatever threat they may encounter, and stays active so he can continue to protect his people. He has a routine that works for him but he trains his body and mind, and practices with an array of weapons.

Virtues:

Brave -- Lyndin is unshakable; he has never backed down from a threat, no matter how intimidating. He seems fearless and will face any issue head on. He is not afraid to put himself on the line if he thinks it will serve a greater purpose. He is willing to do all that is necessary and he does not fear what others may think of him. He takes charge and stays collected in even the most dire of circumstances.

Dependable -- Committed to his goals, Lyndin can be counted on to carry things out to the end. He is loyal to Velencya and the Vanguard above all and will always do what he can to see them succeed. He is loyal to them, and known for his good work ethic. Once he starts a project, he will make sure he gets the job done.

Diplomatic -- With over a thousand years under his belt, Lyndin understands how important it is to understand the needs of others and be willing to work with them to achieve a goal. He is willing to accommodate his allies' needs while working towards his own. He is patient, supportive, and polite in nearly all situations. He believes in courtesy and manners, and is always respectful.

Wise -- With age comes experience and wisdom, and Lyndin has that and more. He is intelligent and clever, and capable of making fast, necessary decisions. He typically has good judgment and can be sensible in stressful situations. He gives good advice and typically takes a very rational approach to most things.

Flaws:

Workaholic -- Lyndin’s entire life is focused on working. He is incredibly focused on his goals and always working to achieve them. He never stops working and does not know when to stop. He puts extreme pressure on himself and thinks that if he slows down he is betraying his people and letting them down. He will try to push past his limits and can neglect his health.

Prideful -- Being the leader of the Vanguard and beloved by Velencya is not without its strings; Lyndin has earned their respect and he knows this, so he genuinely believes that he the best option to lead his people. He does not like his authority questioned and can be very obstinate and confrontational when challenged. Once Lyndin has made up his mind, he is incredibly stubborn. He is set in his ways and is resistant to change.

Secretive -- Lyndin will tell you what he wants you to know and you have to trust that it’s in your best interest that you don’t know the rest. He does not necessarily lie but he omits the truth if he feels like it is in everyone’s best interest. He will always tell a version of the truth, but it can be frustrating to get the full information, especially if it is knowledge that might hurt someone. Lyndin believes he is a good judge of what someone needs to know and otherwise, but it can be difficult working with him and not knowing if he’s withholding information.

Critical -- Nothing in the universe is perfect, but Lyndin can be incredibly critical of small mistakes and issues. He sees flaws and imperfections everywhere and injects himself into situations to try and fix them. He feels as though he is the best candidate to resolve issues and improve, but he is never completely happy with an outcome because there are always things to improve. He believes in the Vanguard and Velencya and is kinder to them than most; he goes out of his way to encourage them when he finds flaws or shortcomings, but he is adamant that they improve. He is never happy with what he has done and always feels like he needs to do more.

Weapon: A high tech greatsword; the blade is sharp enough to do slashing damage, and he is capable of sending energy pulses when he slashes through the air. The energy bursts can cause blunt force damage or stun a target depending on his intention. Typically the stun lasts for no more than 15 seconds but for plot purposes this can be longer. The weapon has a finite amount of energy it can generate per day but he can recharge it with his Source Stone.

Abilities: As a Velencian Commodore, he has the following abilities:

  • Immense durability and enhanced strength due to his natural Velencian genetics. As a Velencian, he is somewhat physically stronger than a human due to a difference in gravitational force on Earth and his homeworld; as a Commodore he is roughly three times as strong and three times as fast as an average human. Most notably, he is incredibly durable; he is notably hardier and it is difficult to bruise him, pierce or puncture his skin, or break bones.
  • He can drain the energy from everyone within a ten foot radius using his Source Stone.
  • He can promote anyone within the Vanguard.
  • He can create powerful mechanisms to serve his purpose; he has the ability to harvest resources from other worlds, create major traps to use against his enemies, or create unique mechanisms designed to greatly heal or restore damaged areas. He is limited only by his access to resources and purpose but can assist in plots that require technology.
  • His starseed is supercharged and he can physically lash out with the extra energy he has accumulated. He can summon crystal shards to throw at opponents; they explode upon contact and can bruise, slice, or burn based on player preference.
  • He can contact Velencya once per month to give updates or ask for more resources. Velencya is currently unavailable for travel and it is difficult to reach them due to some unidentifiable force disrupting communications, but due to his close bond to the world he can request more Vanguardians be sent to Earth.
  • He has a special gauntlet crafted for him by the Negaverse that allows him to pull starseeds. He is only looking for Caedus’ starseed but may be inclined to pull civilian starseeds if he thinks it might be Caedus in a civilian disguise. He does not keep these starseeds and always returns them.
  • He has a small pin that allows him to teleport and from a single point in the Dark Kingdom.
  • He can utilize a civilian glamour to allow him to pass as human while he is in Destiny City; his glamour prevents others from being able to identify him but he appears similar to his natural self except his ears and eyes shift to appear human. His hair remains the same color and style.

Roleplaying with Lyndin:

Lyndin is available predominantly for powered roleplay with characters from any faction, but can also appear in a civilian glamour for members of the Vanguard.

Lyndin does his best to keep an eye on and support the Vanguard. He always makes himself available if they need anything, including answering questions, giving guidance, or training. He is a wealth of knowledge and skill and wants to give them the resources they need to survive.

Though he is staying with the Negaverse, this does not necessarily mean that he is strongly allied with them. He sees them as a necessity and has no proof that indicates anything other than Metallia has kept Earth safe while all other worlds fell. He understands that they are a dangerous force, and he and his people are guests on Earth. He wants to ensure that they are taken care of, so he works with the Negaverse in some capacity to do so.

He does not want to spend more time on Earth than absolutely necessary; he trusts that the Vanguard will make the best decisions that they can. He understands that some will gravitate towards the forces of Order and he does feel like they may have some answers for how to revive their world. He believes they must retrieve Caedus’ starseed and return it to the Cauldron, so he expects that everyone is looking for him--and if they aren’t, he expects that they are searching for comparable alternatives.

He does not have much faith in the White Moon; many seem discordant, chaotic, and confrontational, but a few have caught his eye for better reasons. He understands that they may have answers or the potential to solve some mysteries that could lead to the restoration of life. Similarly, he does not have strong faith in the Negaverse; they have a more organized structure and seem to want to save their world and purge it from the ‘otherwordly invaders’. He thinks the White Moon should focus on restoring their worlds so they can bring life back into the universe, but he thinks the Negaverse is the key to Earth’s safety and longevity.

He does not understand why everyone has awakened on Earth, but he wants to solve this mystery, too.

Lyndin is an incredibly skilled fighter, though he refrains from battle unless necessary. He believes in peace and uses force only when there is no other option. He does not like to kill or hurt others. He believes that pulling starseeds and destroying them is among the greatest crime possible and he hopes to create technology that will help the Negaverse so they no longer need to destroy starseeds.

Lyndin is a skilled tactician and diplomat, and he has intense research abilities. He is wise and patient and supportive. His loyalty is to all of Velencya, and his Vanguard specifically. He would die for them, and he has spent his life dedicated to serving and bettering his people. He will support any member of the Vanguard, however they are all expected to treat him with respect; his position is more than earned.

Order characters can interact with him; for the time being he is healing and needs to take it easy, but in select plots he could reasonably be found in Destiny City or be requested. He does not view himself as an enemy of the White Moon, but he is frustrated that they have no proper structure or leadership. He understands that they are young and without guidance but they are in a war they don’t seem prepared for. He will answer questions and may provide information or assistance to them, but this is under the condition of secrecy. He plays his cards very carefully and cannot afford to be seen working with the enemies of the Negaverse. He will be hostile to those who give any Vanguardians a hard time.

Chaos characters, especially the Negaverse, can interact with Lyndin. He is available to answer questions and may share some technology. He is very diplomatic and understands that aliens are not wanted on Earth so he is doing his best to leave. He is attempting to work with the Negaverse to help them use energy more effectively so they don’t need to gather as much. He will not create weapons for the Negaverse, but can share resources and technology that improves life on Earth and uses less resources. He does not agree with pulling starseeds and will defend the Vangaurdians if he knows anyone is giving them trouble. He can meet Dark Mirror Senshi but he doesn’t know what to make of them and doesn’t understand them.

Lyndin will only don a civilian guise in rare circumstances, almost always at the request of someone else or while he is discretely gathering information. He will respond to requests for meetings from the Vanguard; he can be reached by any of them through ComTech.

If you need someone to guide, train, or check in on your Vanguardian, Lyndin is always available for these regardless of his health. He is always available for promotions within the Vanguard once requirements are met. He will react if attacked but will not start fights unless the Vanguard or a Vanguardian is under attack. He is diplomatic and always looking to make alliances, even secret ones.
