ENTRY LOG: DAY ZERO Character Name: Austin Elswood
Minis account name: blue
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Employment: Student
Faction: 1 / University!
Character description: Charming, smart, worldly // condescending, unsympathetic, cocky
Austin's the rich son of rich parents who grew up constantly being told that he was the best at anything -- and, otherwise, pretty much completely ignored. His group of friends in prep school were smart and brutal, favorites of the teachers and often feared by other students. They were charming assholes, and none of them really grew out of it. Access to money, and an unlimited access in Austin's case, meant that he had opportunities to travel abroad and in the states both through high school and into college. It also meant that he slacked off his junior year and was held back due to truancy; everything out in the city was much more interesting. Now he's in college, a sophomore, on a prelaw track, living in an expensive apartment that his parents pay for with expensive toys his parents pay for, and at least putting in the effort required to get grades that will drive him toward a good law school.
Austin's slim and a bit taller than average at 5'10' with sandy hair shorn short on the sides, longer and curly on the top. His eyes, behind a pair of thin wire frames, are faded green and usually amused; his skin is fair, freckling in sun unless he's careful; his mouth is just a little too full, in a way that appeals to most people.

DAY ZERO ENTRY PROMPT:
She was a freshman but she was eighteen and starry eyed and that had been good enough for Austin. The plan had been a study session as she entered into her very first university exam, but it hadn't taken him long to talk her away from the books and into a quiet nook between two library shelves, turning on the slow smile and the carefully cultivated charm. This meant that the lights going out, casting them from dim and cozy and into safe darkness, was a boon for him. But she felt differently about it
Especially once the shouting started in the distance, a clamoring in the emergency stairwell.
It put the end to their study session, and he hadn't even gotten her out of her shirt. She wriggled out of his arms, breathlessly, as some other students scurried by, only the wild whites of their eyes showing in the gloom. There was a not-quite whispered exchange about the infected. Someone knocked into a shelf, books thudded to the ground, and then Austin's date was gone with the crowd. For a moment, he was alone and annoyed, reaching for his own bag to start after.
He was attacked in the stairwell, an unfamiliar face coming at him, and his reaction was swift. Austin stepped aside and the body [because, could that really be called a person?] went tumbling past him, headlong down the stairs. For a moment, he stared: not in horror but in wonder, because he'd never killed anyone before.
Then the body got up.
He started running, then, down the stairs at a pace that no one who knew him would believe. Gone the cool shamble, the pausing to talk to familiar faces. The campus outside the library was aflame and he caught only glimpses of reaching arms as he streaked through, searching for anywhere that might be safe. Dorms of friends were in disarray, more screaming and shouting; he though he saw someone jump out of a third story classroom; part of the cafeteria was burning.
Austin didn't remember a choice, but in the end, he found himself in the backseat of his Audi, pressed flat and strangely grateful that he hadn't gone for the convertible after all.

Ever's a beanstalk: six feet tall and extremely underweight, he looks like he'd break under a stiff wind. This is partially covered by the multi-layered style he's adopted, mostly worn-thin clothing rescued from thrift stores or the salvation army, heavy pants tucked into clunky boots. His hair is soft, fine, and extremely fair; his eyes are narrow, laughing, and very dark. His nose is a couple sizes too big with a bend in the bridge where it was broken, at some point, and never properly set. These days, he has a somewhat unnatural pallor, like he's barely seen sunlight in about six months -- because he hasn't.

DAILIES
Note to self, s**t you should do every day:
[ DAILY CHECKLIST OF THINGS TO DO ]
1) Check the announcements thread to see if there is any new event info! If there is, it is recommended you reply to this first/ post in the threads/ do the activity as stated.
2) Check Minis site and pick up your DAILY CHANCE roll! Make sure all your items look good and update your journals where applicable!
3) Select a location for your character to go to on the minis site. Confirm any item trades if you have any!
4) Once you are good with where your character is (it could be no location!) then it is time for you to decide what to do with your character in that zone. Go to the zone subforum. Feel free to create prps/orps/ and obtain loot as needed for your character to survive.
4) You can also RP in your faction hub! Go here to view your home base info! You can make faction prps, faction quests, and faction orps as well as join existing ones!
5) Make sure your water and health are up! You can communicate to other players to trade items with your character. RP it out first in any thread of your choice and THEN trade on the minis site. Remember that items can only be given IF RPED.
6) Continue threads or try exploring new quests or prompts given. Some newer prompts or threads may lead to different zones or areas that give a little more than just survival. There is a rumour going around that it is those who explore will get chosen later....

[ OBJECTIVE 4 ]
Day Zero Log
Quote:
Your character is asked to write a log of what has happened to them between day zero and the present. You can be as descriptive or as brief as you wish, up to a MINIMUM of 250 words. Create it as a as a log in your journal. When you are done, you may submit the form with a link to it.
This is a simple log of the extremely stressful day I've had, up until this point.
It began with a meeting, called by the girl who runs our division, to assign us all numbers -- something that seems, in my opinion, to be a very poor idea. The dehumanization of our area will make it easier to betray each other, or to forget that the people around us are people as opposed to commodities in a war. But maybe that was what Corey was going for.
Our meeting was interrupted by the attack of several infected in our washroom. I beat the s**t out of one of them, while the rest of the group worked on the rest.
From there, it was down to the daily grinds: scavenging and cleaning, duties around the university. Some familiar faces, getting more familiar with people I've only seen in passing before, for better or for worse. The discovery of a radio, which seems to be mostly gibberish from people I've never met -- and what information does come through is vague or entirely useless.
Then we decided to venture out to see what else we might find, and everything went to hell. Grenades went off, causing injuries to all -- some worse than others, though. I ended up with a broken jaw, and haven't been able to speak since that time.
Not that it's slowed me down, much. Still Liam and I managed to take down many undead, found a strange office supply store where, it seems, a murder suicide was document and followed through. Not many useful supplies, no really any useful information.
I interviewed a boring duo from other districts. I tried to get to the radio tower, and failed.
I registered my objections to calling a strange number.
