- Winning hands (winning PLAYER) of each game get 25 casino coins! - Losing players (ALL OTHER PLAYERS IN THE GAME) get -5 casino coins! If you have LESS than 5 casino coins you CANNOT play a game of poker!
DIFFICULTY:
gaia_stargaia_stargaia_star
RULES OF THIS GAME:
[ Step 1]: - You must find a minimum of TWO other players to enter the poker table with you. If you cannot find someone else put a [ OPEN ] at the top of your post. This means you are open for inviting other players. You can have up to 5 people in a poker game thread, if you wish. All players may now come in, and roll in whatever order they wish, you really don't have to wait for players to get your rolls in!
Label your thread [ POKER RP] (PLAYERS HERE). You can play cross faction, obviously! Remember MINIMUM 3 players MAX 5 players!
The player who made the thread is responsible for closing it when finished.
[ Step 2]: All players must now roll 5d12 and make their FIRST POST in that thread. This equals the CARDS they have on their hands where 1= Ace, 11 = Jack, 12 = Queen. There are no kings. Edit your OOC accordingly with your hand. Make a post regarding your hand/entering the thread/ etc.
[ Step 3]: Look at your hand combination. You may now choose to DISCARD one card from your hand you do not like. Select which number you want to discard (from your rolls), and then in a second post, roll 1d12 again. This is your new card. Edit your OOC HAND accordingly, and write a small post of your character. This phase is optional.
[ Step 4]: Look at your hand combination. You may now choose to DISCARD ANOTHER card from your hand you do not like. Select which number you want to discard (from your rolls), and then in your third post, roll 1d12 again. This is your new card. Edit your OOC accordingly, and write a small post of your character. This phase is optional, and your LAST chance to swap cards.
[ Step 4b]: If you somehow have "cash" in your minis inventory, now is the chance to use it! Make a post, and RP that you are using your cash to BRIBE the dealer. Immediately send the cash item to Junkyard. This item WILL be removed from your inventory. When you have done so (don't worry about waiting for confirmation, just do NOT use this item anywhere else or you will be removed from the event), replace any card in your hand with a card of your choice. For example, if your current hand is 1, 2 , 2, 4, 5, with your bribe, you may now change it to 1, 2 3, 4, 5. Proceed to the next step when done. This step is only for CASH people only (if you own this item on the site).
[ Step 5]: You are done swapping cards! This is now your FINAL HAND. We're going to simplify the rules here for Poker so it isn't a big nightmare to complete. Look at the list below:
Select a combination that is APPROPRIATE to your hand. For example, if you have 2, 2, 5, 6, 7, your highest is a pair. If you got 2 3 4 5 6, your highest is a straight. etc etc. Use the form below to submit your final hand and rp out your post.
I AM SUBMITTING MY HAND My card combination: Inventory link: (proof of cash) Character name:
[ Step 6]: When ALL PLAYERS have submitted their hand, simply look at this chart again to see who has the highest combo. If there are two "tied" values, simply look at who has the higher card numbers. That person is the WINNER. If you are the WINNER of the thread, you get 25 casino points. Everyone else has to subtract 5 as penalty. Go ahead and edit your ooc for casino points accordingly.
If players are caught not subtracting points, they will be disqualified from any future poker games! If players do NOT respond in a timely manner despite posting one hand, they will be considered no longer part of the game (-5 penalty for "losing"). The wait period for a timely tag should be 12 hours before moving onwards. You may play multiple poker games at once.

This time, Harvard picked the table. He picked it mainly because the dealer was a women whose assets touched the table every time she bent over. He wanted to see if they would fall out at some point. They were like pale waterbeds; a wide expanse of creamy flesh that made a thirteen year old boy wanna bounce quarters off of 'em. But Harvard was no longer thirteen (in fact, most people might be hard pressed to even envision him as thirteen, even though it had obviously happened at one point), he was thirty-four (ish), and he was playing poker with a couple of college kids.
Life was odd, sometimes.
"Come on. Perhaps it's Austin's chance to shine. Or maybe he will be bought." Harvard peeked at his cards. Not awful, but awfully similar to another hand in the previous game.

"Maybe -- " Austin paused, before sitting down, to catch the arm of a girl and offer her a brief, sharp smile. He wanted another drink, if they were going to keep doing this, something to take the edge off of the annoyance that was building toward anger and would almost certainly get him into trouble. Only once it was ordered did he sit down and pick up his cards, stretching his legs out under the table and wriggling his nose to resettle the ill-fitting glasses.
"You can suck my d**k, Doctor." It was flippant, but touched with just a dose of something pissy about it, as Austin took his cards and started to re-arrange them in his hand, assessing. He couldn't possibly have realized what an opening he'd give to Harvard with that simple mocking statement.

Austin's slim and a bit taller than average at 5'10' with sandy hair shorn short on the sides, longer and curly on the top. His eyes, behind a pair of thin wire thick plastic frames with the wrong prescription, are faded green and usually amused; his skin is fair, freckling in sun unless he's careful; his mouth is just a little too full, in a way that appeals to most people.
Liam, recognizing this side of Austin easily, wisely chose not to bait him. Instead he ordered himself a drink of his own, then took a seat, again, to the other boy's left. Always keeping Austin conveniently placed between him and the good doctor.
His own cards were given a rather sad look. Liam didn't play cards often, and didn't have any clue that he held a potentially amazing hand. All he was was a lack of pairs and a very hard win.
Almost absently, he pipped up. "He might." In reference to Austin's snapped retort to Harvard's needling. having shared a room with the man for a month now, Liam knew full well the sorts of tastes he held in, uh..partners. At least visually.

He tapped the table. "Is that an invitation?" Harvard said almost absently, flicking his eyes up to look at the other man. He smiled slowly, waiting for Austin to realized exactly how he'd walked into that. He picked up his new card and considered it carefully. Then Harvard reached down and patted Austin's thigh under the table. This was done because Harvard could not think of a reason not to. It was a motto (or lack thereof) that he lived by. Because why not.
"Oh, and now I've got a wing-man from an unexpected source." Harvard straightened his cards. It was times like these that he though having glasses might be good - if only to shoot people certain types of 'looks' over the rims. "Now what exactly do you know about my proclivities, my skill-set, when you leave the room every time?"

Judging from the look on Austin's face, he wasn't exactly cleaning up this round, either: his eyebrows knotted and his expression just a bit sour, enough that he didn't even push the matter when Harvard returned salvo. Instead he scowled at his cards, moved them around carefully in his hand, and then flicked the pair of them an uncertain look, like he was trying to decide if they actually had something worthwhile.
Liam would never know, sweet dim child that he was, so Austin's focus settled on Harvard's instead -- cool as a cucumber, and --
"Wait, what?" The words cut through, at last, trying to imagine Liam leaving the room, some long-term fling gone sour, the potential of a threesome. Slowly, the truth of the matter would dawn on things instead, driving away wild fantasies -- which was, honestly, probably for the best.
It killed his sour expression, too, made both of Austin's eyebrows go up.
"Don't tell me you two are rooming together? Why?"
A count of five before Liam, too realized just what he had said and what it implied, and the very idea that came barreling into his mind at the tail of it was enough to set his teeth on edge, features darkening minutely. It shouldn't bother him, he'd spent a year trying to extract Austin from his life back in high school to little avail until he'd graduated. Now, just the off shot of his roommate and his ex hooking up was enough to prickly and irritate. To Harvard he shot a suspicious look, grumpy and annoyed, before returning his gaze to his cards. "Didn't say anything about your prowess, just your preference." A shockingly impressive word for the youngest among them. And it wasn't as if the older man had ever waited for Liam to leave the room before setting to business.
Liam looked up at Austin. "Not by choice. We were assigned." And if Liam had been any less of a good natured idiot he'd have had the sense long ago to request a change in living arrangements. But he didn't like to bother the leads, not with trivial matters like that.
With a huff he took another drink, inspected his cards again, then tapped the table.

Oh, Harvard though delightedly. There was history of some sort there. He, of course, wasn't sure what kind of history (possibly exes or jealousy), but it was something interesting. He waved the dealer away, keeping his card close to him. He had an alright hand and now he was far more interested in the other two men at his table than cards.
"My preference is varied far and wide." Harvard's eyebrow arched. Had Liam really been so studiously ignoring him that he missed the times Caroline visited? Harvard took what he got and, if it was good, he kept it and made it his. Until he got bored. After a while, some things, some people, just failed to continue his interest.
He shrugged. "By chance we are roommates, Austin. But he's unobtrusive, obedient, out of the way. Like living with a ghost."

"I can definitely believe that." Austin couldn't decide if he was amused by the idea or horrified, or -- or what. So he frowned at his cards, and then at Harvard, slowly revealing what he had: a single pair of eights, high card jack. Really, it wasn't a terrible hand, and so he fiercely waited on the other man to reveal his own deck, once again completely dismissing Liam from the game at hand.
Sure. He'd won last time. But he didn't think it was about to happen again.
"Still, what are the chances, really." The chances of what, exactly, he didn't say. Just sat back to wait.

"Never said it wasn't varied." He'd seen Caroline, and others. The entire conversation at hand was making him cranky again. More so when Harvard went on to list characteristics that weren't untrue, but also weren't in any way very flattering. And certainly not a surprise to Austin, who knew him better than anyone else here, despite having not had any contact for over a year.
A brow lifted at Austin's question. "What are the chances of what?"
Still cranky, he tapped the table again. Now he had a pair, but a pair wasn't going to beat Harvard's set of three.

"Time to show your cards." Harvard was confident, almost smug in the assumed knowledge that he'd won. Somehow it was just... absolutely amusing that Austin had not won once. "You implied that I only suck d**k, Liam. I like a little bit of everything and a lot of other things." And some of the things he liked weren't as readily indulged. It wasn't easy finding those who suited his taste for more than a night. And finding people who made him expend only the amount of effort he felt was appropriate. Which was why Liam wasn't as fun as he could be - there was a lot of effort for very little reaction. A scowl, a tense answer. Was it worth it?
It was amazing even to him how he thought of these things even during a time like this. Harvard wondered if it said something about his character and then decided he did not care. "What are the chances - very good, probably. Nothing is a coincidence. Providence and all that, maybe. "

Fingertips curling against the table top, Liam turned in his seat to lean around Austin so he could see the older man better. "I didn't say 'only'. Not about what you like, who you like, or how you like it." Whatever calm the drinking had bought was wearing off now. "You're the one assuming what I mean and putting words in my mouth." Even Liam broke, eventually, and it seemed like he was starting to crack around the edges. "I said two words. Two little words that in no way implied anything other than the truth. Which is, You might suck his d**k."
"Son of a b***h." Austin looked disgusted as he took in Harvard's cards -- too disgusted even to be entertained by Liam saying the words 'suck his d**k', which otherwise, would have been endless entertainment. Instead, this time, he played the proper sore loser: shoving his hand away from himself and rising roughly to stand. It was on the edge of starting a fight, even, before he caught himself.
"Maybe it'd make me feel better about this bullshit." And wasn't this what Harvard had wanted, anyway? To push the buttons properly? Austin flicked a look to Liam and rolled his eyes, grabbing his empty drink off the table.
"I'm going to go get a refill." He started away before anyone could protest.

Well, hot damn. So this was what it was like when they were both grumpy and sulky. It was kind of hot, even if all that ire was directed at him. Liam had finally unbent enough to snap a bit. He wondered how much further he could push it.
