Freshmen Quest: Cleaning Day

Well it seems like you were the lucky person who was elected to do cleaning duty! Fear not though, because there are other people likely doing the same job as you elsewhere in different rooms. Living in the university is great being as the dorms are home base, so more room... but also means more to clean. Keeping things tidy and clean is not only safer but healthier in the long run!

Roll 1d4 and RP matching your number with that activity below.

Rolled a 1

Seems you were suckered into bathroom cleaning duty.

How messy was it? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Oh man did a nuclear bomb go off in here?
2- Someone seems to be cleaning up after themselves, shouldn't require much effort.
3- Was that a spider i just saw???? Gross!
4- Seems lived in, but still moderately nasty.

How well did you do cleaning wise? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Too gross, i did a quick job and got out of there.
2- I did the best i could, but i refuse to clean the floors.... or walls.
3- I took out the trash, good enough right?
4- You could eat off my floors and need sunglasses to even see inside how perfectly clean it now is.

Rolled a 2
You were placed into the dusting team!

What do you use to dust with? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Oh gosh i actually found a real feather duster! Neat!
2- A washcloth.
3- Uh my sleeve, duh.
4- I just blow air on it, that removes dust right?

How well did you do cleaning wise? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Too gross, i did a quick job and got out of there.
2- I did the best i could, but not really a great job.
3- I cleaned the counters!
4- Dust allergy people need not be aware! I am the bane of all dust mites, theres not a single spek left!

Rolled a 3
You were put in charge of the floors.

Which floor type do you clean? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Carpets, We found a working vacuum!
2- Carpets, We have one of those powerless roller vacuums... it doesnt work really well.
3- Hardwood floors, we found a mop!
4- Hardwood floors, if i sit down and scoot around a little does that count as cleaning?

How well did you do cleaning wise? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Too gross, i did a quick job and got out of there.
2- I did the best i could, but not really a great job.
3- I cleaned all i could see! But i didn't go under objects like tables...
4- You could eat off my floors, i did an AMAZING job.

Rolled a 4
You will be spending your day today washing clothing!

How did you wash the clothing? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- The washer and Dryer are working today, of course i'd just use those.
2- A bucket of water, a brush, and things air dry. Why waste electricity?
3- I just dropped them into the sink and filled it up. Someone else will take care of the drying right?
4- Used the washer but allowed things to air dry.

How well did you do cleaning wise? Roll 1d4 and RP your response!

1- Nasty blood and other stains everywhere, i did a quick job and got out of there.
2- I did the best i could, but not really a great job. There are still some curious stains...
3- Cleaned as good as to be expected, but some clothing was eaten or lost...
4- I bleached the hell out of everything, no stains on MY clothing.

It seemed like the job of keeping the dorms clean never really ended. This really shouldn't have been surprising, but given how little they had now, and how everyone was responsible for keeping this place clean, Liam had to wonder how it got so dirty in the first place. Seemed to him that this job would be a lot less involved everyone else put in the effort to just pick up after themselves.

This was, perhaps, Liam's least favorite task.

He was crouched beside his bucket of cleaning supplies, going through the contents to make sure he had everything he was going to be need, while he waited for whoever his partner in crime was going to be for the this.

His hair was still pulled back, but at some point over the course of the last few hours he'd lost the hoody that was clearly two sizes too big for him.

Austin wasn't even assigned here, really -- but on his way to another task he caught sight of a familiar face and paused in the doorway, expression considering, while he debated his options. Play nice and help out an old friend [and probably not do a particularly good job, since he wasn't much on cleaning] -- or play nice and leave an old friend alone, maybe to get help from someone less likely needle?

He strummed fingers against his leg and, after a moment, cleared his throat. His hair still looked obnoxiously put together, his layering of second hand clothing almost artful. Austin had a way of putting himself together.

"I imagine you're looking forward to getting out of this place." And away from Austin, was probably the implication.

There was a certain quality to that throat clear that was altogether too familiar not to recognize. Liam froze for a second, apparently startled by Austin's unexpected presence, but then went back to checking his supplies without looking up. There was a pair of gloves(important), a scrub brush, a sponge that looked like it had seen better days, and a half empty bottle of what looked like watered down dish soap.

"Isn't that something we're all looking forward to?" Now he looked up, balance shifting onto the balls of his feet as he rested an arm across one thigh. "Pretty sure these aren't idle living conditions for anyone."

It was hard to tell if Liam had simply missed the implied meaning of Austin's comment, or was simply deciding not to answer to it.

"Are you my partner for this?" Twice in one day, after a month of being stuck here together. What were the odds? Of course, now that he'd fallen onto Austin's radar again, Liam suspected he would probably being seeing more of the older boy.

"It looks like it." Which was actually a no, not really, but maybe no one had been assigned to help Liam out and, in that case, he should be all too grateful for the help. Cleaning wasn't necessarily a two person job the way the others were, was it? Austin eased slowly into the room, peering around at his options, eyes lingering on the floor. It seemed less nasty than toilets or doing the laundry, or trying to get dust out of all those hard to reach cracks. And so he'd lay claim to the task.

"...I meant in a more immediate sense, though, you know." He poked around to see what supplies might come to hand.

Liam stood as Austin came over to poke in the bucket of supplies, taking a small step back, then taking it back after realizing what he'd just done, cheeks darkening just a touch. He didn't want to give Austin any sort of power over him, not again, but the taller boy was notoriously good at reading him and pushing all the right buttons to elicit the responses he wanted. Trying to simply leave never seemed to do him much good, nor did sticking around. Silence was just as damning as responding to his baiting. There was just no winning.

Resigned to failure, then. "Sure. I'm practically running for the doors as we speak." It was thick with sarcasm, and only now did Liam actually move away enough to give the room a proper once over.

It was incredibly dusty in here. "Can you hand me one of those rags?"

At least it wasn't carpeting, because there was little Austin hated more than a vacuum cleaner. Not that a mop was a whole lot better, only inches above -- but he thought he could get away with doing less with a mop, perhaps. So he fished it out, pausing as Liam called for him, and then threw a rag

at him

it was damp, just slightly, so when it hit Liam it would curl and stick around his body, and Austin would grin at him.

Liam did a fullbody cringe when the damp rag hit him in the back of the neck and curled around his scalp and shoulders. Hurriedly yanking it off, then turned and threw it right back at Austin, only to have it miss entirely and land in another bucket of question fluid. Welp... He was a soccer player, not a baseball player.

"Damnit." Did they even have anymore rags?

With a huff he went back to the bucket to check.

Austin looked entirely too pleased with himself, grinning after Liam as he went to find a fresh rag...but the expression melted away as he was greeted with the task at hand. Or at his feet, perhaps. Austin stared at the mop, and then at the floor and then, instead, reached for the bleach.

No need to actually mop, he thought. Instead, he just poured a very thin layer across the the floor and pushed it around a little. The result would stink, but at least it worked.

You'd think Liam would be used to deal with Austin by now, but he was woefully out of practice. To be fair, though, he'd never been all that good at dealing with the other boy. Maybe he'd just gotten used to him?

Or maybe he'd just given in to the inevitable.

Yeah, that sounded more accurate.

Grabbing another rag, Liam headed over to start to work on the dusting. He wasn't good at it, never had been, but he did put forth a certain amount of earnest effort, even if he did leave rather notable streaks across the surfaces of the shelves.

Although this time it might not have been his poor cleaning skills that were to blame for the less than stellar dust job. The room was more or less enclosed, and mid way through the process the small space began to fill up with the overpoweringly strong smell of bleach. At first he'd ignored it. Then, when it'd gotten too strong, he'd tried pulling the collar of his shirt up over his nose and mouth, but that didn't really seem to do as good a job as the media portrayed.

By the time he was finished his head was spinning, and when he turned to discard the rag back with the rest of the supplies the room started to tilt to one side, making Liam snap an arm out to grab hastily for something to hold onto, only to drag one of the shelves he'd been dusting right off the wall.

Thankfully it had been an empty one. Unfortunately the edge of it smacked him across the bridge of the nose.

Austin was done long before Liam was, which was really a good thing. It meant that he was standing just a bit away, ratty scarf pulled up over his own face, idly watching the other man work. It also meant that when Liam started to keel over, gallant as he could possibly be, Austin stepped in to catch.

An arm around his waist. A raised eyebrow. Liam was probably still seeing stars and Austin was perfectly find with that: they'd circle around his face, like a heroic glow. Or so he imagined. "Do we need a fainting couch in here?"

It was a little jarring when Liam didn't hit the floor, but it came with relief as well, because that would have hurt, and his nose was already aching. Not that he could really focus on that with his head swimming like it was.

It took him a moment to register what had happened. Austin's arm around his waist, face hovering over him. When he did he didn't seem especially happy about it, but nor did he try to pull free either. "No." Sullen. "Just need to get out of this room." It started to spin again, and he closed his eyes to let it pass. "Why'd you use so much?"

"We're in the heart of an infection, and bleach kills everything." He made it sound very reasonable, still supporting Liam with the scarf over his mouth and both eyebrows raised. Austin wasn't about to let go, at least. He'd keep supporting Liam until he shoved his way out to move on.

"It seems to me that bleaching the hell out of the place can only be a good thing." It certainly wasn't just to cover up his own inadequacy as a cleaner.

Hard to argue with that logic, even if Liam was petty sure Austin hadn't done it for that reason. Still, the fumes weren't getting any thinner. "Maybe if you'd opened a window." He still sounded sullen, and he still hadn't moved. The combination of bleach and the shelf to the nose was giving him a headache.

With a wince he tried to stand on is own, but he couldn't get the balance of it. Sagging again, he turned dark blues up to Austin's face. "If you're done bleaching the floor, can we just get the hell out of here?" He wasn't directly asking for help, but that was the gist of it.

"I don't know why you're asking my permission." It came with a smile though, comfortably mocking, his eyes bright and amused. He was still halfway supporting Liam, and he tapped a hand against the man's hip, probably just a bit more intimate than was wanted or hoped for --

"Unless you're hoping I'll carry you out of here?"
