- Scavenge the office building for supplies OOC: You will need to scavenge the local office building (STAPLES) for supplies. Any information you discover within the building can be used for later.
[ Step 1 ] Each player must roll 4d10 in their post. Match your dice to the rolls below. RP it out in ANY order.
1. Your character finds a stapler. It doesn't seem very useful. It is still attached to an arm, that has long begun it's final stages of decay. Attached to the bracelet of the arm is a name. "R O R...." the rest is missing.
2. Your character finds boxes and boxes of receipts. It doesn't look very informative.
3. Your character turns the corner and finds one of the undying! They must remain quiet for a bit to avoid being caught. If your character wishes to fight it instead for some reason, the undying has 50 HP and does -5 auto damage.
4. Your character finds a stray cat. It doesn't seem very friendly.
5. Your character notices a strange room. It seems to be locked.
6. Your character notices a foul smell coming from the copier room. You notice that the copier has stopped running, but there are pages and pages of images that surround it. Each one depicts someone being brutally stabbed. It is difficult to look at.
7. Your character notices some booze! Unfortunately it is empty
8. Your character manages to find some loose change. Not very handy.
9. Your character comes across a disgusting sight - a half-eaten body. The smell is repulsive and causes you to involuntarily gag. The half-eaten face's eyeballs are still looking at you, darting back and forth, moving.
10. You come across several rats all clustered together. You don't want to know why.

Austin had managed to disappear into the crowd, find a quiet place away from the bustle and noise, and had settled there: bag carefully under his head, flat on his back on a bench, with his radio close at hand to listen for any information that might, potentially improve his situation. His face was swollen, his lower lip gone even puffier, fuller than usual, and his head throbbed to the beat of his heart --
And yet, somehow, even with things as crazy as they were, he managed to claim a little sleep, dozing with his radio like a teddy bear and his eyebrows knit and the hat mostly but not quite blocking the light from his eyes. Maybe he just really needed it.
He really should have left well enough alone, but Liam hadn't know better at the time that removing the metal from his leg was actually a bad idea. His logic had been simple(it always was). The metal didn't belong there, his body didn't like it being there, taking out would help. It didn't. It had hurt like a mother ******** and bleed like crazy, and about two seconds of staring down at it he'd actually passed out.
Some unknown angel of the battlefield had apparently seen him and taken pity. When he woke up sometime later he was laying flat on his back, leg extended out, and even without looking he could feel the compressing pressure of something binding the injury.
He could also hear a radio...
Turning his head, he was another person laying next to him. Blinking numbly, it took a moment to register that it was Austin. Possibly because the side of his face he could see was all swollen and bruised, and he had his hat pulled down low over his brow. With a pained grunt and a hiss Liam pushed himself into a sitting position.
He had intended to just sit, for as long as he was able, but he kept hearing people around them talking. Important work to be done, missions to be carried out. Every little bit helped. Everybody needed to be working on this. It ate at him, nagging, until finally he reached over to give Austin's arm a careful pat. "Austin." He felt bad even as he continued to try to wake him up.

It got a grumpy sound in reply, but that meant that Austin was almost immediately completely awake -- because the act of mumbling, even, send shooting pain up his jaw and into his head, made stars swirl between his eyes. It seemed, sadly, that he needed to keep his mouth shut, at least for a little while.
Good thing he'd pocketed all those pens, when he and Harvard had gone scavenging.
He turned a bleary eye on Liam, and then immediately moved to turn off the radio, to tuck it mostly out of sight. He drew in a breath and blew it out his nose, and didn't say anything at all. Just frowned, faintly, and raised his eyebrows in question.
He'd already seen the radio, Austin. He'd been sitting there for a while. Not that he made any comment on it, now. The fun happily quizzical look was met with a helpless sort of shrug before he lifted his head again to watch everyone moving back and forth purposefully across his field of vision.
"We should be helping." Liam didn't necessarily want to help, but he felt they should be. Especially as he noticed more and more dark patches of blood and cotton bandages on people. They weren't the only people injured, obviously, but they seemed to be the only two not actively doing something.
It took a lot of effort, a lot of wincing, and the draining of color from Liam's face, but he managed to get to his feet. Albeit he was now leaning heavily on the bent remains of a parking meter. Walking was going to be an interesting and painful challenge. If he could even walk at all. "We can search that building, it'll be easy." Probably not, but he could be hope.
The building in question was an old Staples with most of it's windows still in tact.

The good news was that, while Austin couldn't talk, Liam got to be a bit in charge: there'd be no objection here, simply because he couldn't physically object. Even if he desperately wanted to. The other man could grab him and draw him along, using Austin as a very sour-faced support to make his way into the store.
Then, though, he'd be deposited somewhere central and Austin would move away quietly, trying to get the lay of the place without making too much noise. And, maybe, to find a weapon.
He bent down behind the cash register to poke through the boxes there, in hopes of a hidden -- he didn't even know what. Baseball bat? But if there'd ever been one, it was long gone now, only receipts left. And he didn't much care who'd bought printer ink recently.

It was a little surprising when no form of protest came from the taller boy. Heis mouth was hurt, of course, but Liam was expecting something. A roll of eyes, the shrugging off of his hand on his shoulder, a baleful look. But there was nothing. It was met with a raise of brows as Austin pulled him up to his feet and acted as a mobile leaning post. Then a pleased smile.
Inside, he kept a look out as Austin helped him into the center of the sales floor and sat him down in an old office chair to go look. There honestly wasn't a whole lot he could do to help with this process. Well, he supposed he could wheel his chair around, look as best he could, but he sort of wanted to test this new found compliance in the other boy.
Just a bit.
So he waited while Austin searched, watching as he ducked behind an register, then looking out into the store itself for other places hat seemed likely to hold something of value.
"Austin, there's something shiney on the floor over there, kind of tucked behind the other register." He extended a hand, pointing, in case it was needed.

Liam got a look -- sharp and unimpressed, Austin dropping the box of receipts and flinching just a touch at the sound -- and then he stepped away to investigate what it was.
A loonie. One single loolie. Stuck to the ground by something that felt old and sugary and gross. Austin regretted picking it up, so he threw it at Liam instead of holding onto it.

Liam just smiled back at him, ducking as the lonnie came flying in his direction. "What's wrong, Austin?" He was poking a hornet's nest, he knew that, but it was so very hard to resist the temptation. How often did a situation arise that left Austin unable to speak? Never, that's when. For once in their relationship Liam felt as though they were on much more equal footing.
It wouldn't last, but at least for now, he could enjoy it.
Still smiling, He swiveled in the chair a bit, scanning the room. "What about over in that pile of boxes?"

This wasn't exactly Austin's favorite game. He looked Liam over slowly, disgusted -- and then pointed to the wheels on Liam's chair, followed by a room in the back. Maybe he was injured, but he could still damned well move around. And Liam, if he got in trouble, could shout enough for Austin to come running.
Assuming he would, even.
In the meanwhile, he'd poke around in the boxes Liam pointed to, briefly excited by a flash of alcohol bottles in there -- but no. The moment he lifted one out, he'd see it was empty, and his expression would fall again. No "Never have I ever" tonight.

Liam raised as brows at the other boy innocently, but he couldn't maintain the look, and the smile returned seconds later as she started wheeling his way towards the room Austin had indicated.
About half way there, as his chair bumped into a table, he heard an angry yowl, a hiss, and just barely caught sight of what must have been a cat go darting past him, deeper in the store. Liam stared after it for a moment, before raising his voice to be heard. "We've got cats in here, careful."

He didn't say it [for obvious reasons] but he did think it: the fact that there was a cat in here was probably a good sign. Cats had better senses than humans, and more sense period. They'd have the wits to run from the monsters, to leave them alone with the dangers that might come.
Good. All for the best, then. Austin nodded, frowning as a smell caught his attention. Slowly, he nudged open the door to the copier room, and blinked at the pile of papers that had tumbled from the machine to the floor in front of it.
He made a harsh, disgusted noise at the brutal images on the paper, and closed his eyes.

The noise had Liam glancing at Austin, curious, and the fact that he wasn't moving from where he'd stopped really didn't bode all that well. "What'd you find?" Not that the taller boy could answer, but the question had just been automatic.
Kicking against the floor brought him up behind Austin, and he pushed himself up to stand behind him so she could look over his shoulder into the room. The smell caught him first, making him cringe, then the pictures... "What the hell?" Color drained from his face, and he reached out to lay a steadying hand on the small of Austin's back. Both for himself and for the other boy.

The pictures were bad, but was worse was the glimpse of something Austin had gotten behind the copier: one bloated eye that flicked up to meet Austin's, like something was moving them behind the corpse's face. Judging from the smell, too, there wasn't just the one -- and so he shuddered a little, looking to Liam instead.
A nod to the door. The other man didn't need to see that. They probably had enough to report back.
He was getting that overly hot, sick feeling again as he stared down at the pictures at their feet, and the smell was just making it worse. Fingers curled into the back of Austin's jacket, and Liam took a step back even before the taller boy was trying to direct him away from him.
He could be sure, but he thought maybe he'd caught a glimpse of something that wasn't a picture further into the room. Something half decayed and faintly twitching. He'd looked away as soon as he'd seen it, but it was in his mind now, and he doubted it was leaving anytime soon.
A little green, he swallowed, nodding to Austin. If there was more of that lying in wait in this building Liam really didn't want to find it. "We can go." The sooner the better. They'd done their part, even if they hadn't found anything of real use, the building had been checked!
