Slate Blackwell

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Name: Slate Blackwell

Nickname: None

Age: 18

Birthday: January 13th

Sign: Capricorn

Gemstone: Garnet

Blood Type: Never been typed

Fav. Food: Rabbit stew

Hated Food: N/A

School: None - Unemployed

Hobbies:

Cats — Were he able, Slate would run an animal shelter due to his depthless love for the feline species. While owning none of his own, he does enjoy the occasional brush with a cat on the street, which he would pet emphatically. Sometimes he even carries a bag of cat treats in his coat pocket solely for instances like these. He does hope to get his own one day, and while he has yet to find a job, he volunteers at a cat shelter to build rapport in anticipation of the day when he acquires a furry friend. He is also more than open to sharing his love for the fur bags with anyone - friend or stranger. Cats simply need to be worshipped.

Research — When a topic interests Slate, he goes after it voraciously. Primarily he resorts to books and word of mouth sources. He could spend hours in a library with a healthy array of books on one particular topic, notebook in hand while he bullets out important facts. The only qualifying factor for a topic to merit research is his interest - or his interest in the person suggesting the subject matter. Thus, he will research for friends or romantic interests and he doesn't care if this constitutes cheating on their part for an assignment and it's none of his business regardless. Most of his research occurs in the evenings after job searching - if he didn't just blow an entire day on cobbling together facts and stories.

Incense — Slate mixes incense oils as part of a tradition that was passed through his family. Most of them are harmless, aromatic scents like sandalwood, patchouli, or lavender. Sometimes he tries to dabble in concocting more potent substances - anything ranging from an attempted foxglove oil for paralytic functions (which he can't seem to get right) to an invented aphrodisiac scent that he might be able to sell to a wider market (which he also can't seem to get right). He will usually craft incense on a night not spent researching (unless he's researching how to create a new oil).

He never makes scents for friends without payment, however. It remains his sole income-worthy hobby.

Violin - Slate learned violin from a young age and played constantly through many years of his life. Frequent trips into Destiny City were made to play on the streets for entertainment value while others shopped the market wares. He soon learned that busking paid off quite nicely, even if not quite as marketable as oils and scents. When on the streets, he will take requests to play songs he knows, or will learn popular music and convert it for play by violin. And when not performing, Slate has a frequent (and sometimes obnoxious) habit of plucking his violin with quick melodies during everyday conversation. Eventually he would not mind acquiring an electric violin with its amp and pedals for more elaborate songs, but he favors the sound of his Ravatin-made traditional violin.

Virtues & Flaws

Virtues:

Stable — Slate is of stable emotional disposition, meaning that he is not quick to anger, or sadden, or displease. While not impervious to these feelings, he maintains a certain resilience against them that allows him to maintain more positive moods most of the time. He has a broader affect and presentation than his brother, as he is apt to smile or quirk an eyebrow or smirk, but typically he retains an easygoing emotional range throughout the day. He generally enjoys company even if he doesn't often seek it out, and his emotional cadence reflects his openness to greet others when confronted.

Empathetic — Slate tries to take care of those he likes. He genuinely tries to make connections, to understand where someone came from, to comprehend and respect their choices. Most people come from experiences entirely different from his, which molds them into fascinating figures that he can look up to and learn from to an extraordinary capacity. People are great, and usually, Slate likes them. He enjoys making them smile. He enjoys connecting with them in a manner that's deeper than simple talk of the weather or menial facets of life. Friendships are the greatest assets to life, and Slate wants to explore these friendships as deeply as he can.

Intuitive — Slate utilizes his intelligence to draw conclusions quite commonly in daily life. Possessing knowledge offers a great many predictions to choose from when faced with different stimuli - moss on the roof of a house indicates a lapse in maintenance or the owner's unwillingness to go to efforts to prolong the life of his roof. A student with roaming eyes likely lacks confidence in their own test answers and instead believes that her classmates have the right idea - though with her obviousness, this must be the first time she's attempted to cheat. Ultimately he believes that everything tells a story if one looks and listens hard enough, and sometimes his predictions can be quite accurate (while conversely, sometimes he can be quite wrong). It can be rather impressive when he's right, too.

Intelligent — Quick to learn and smart to boot, Slate doesn’t have a problem picking up on information efficiently. He possesses an avid hunger for learning and demonstrates it frequently through his voracious research tendencies as well as interest in lectures and academia (though much to his chagrin, he lacks the funds and understanding of the scholarship process to attend). His intelligence is of a helpful sort - he has no qualms over sharing what he knows when asked, and will readily supply previously ascertained facts on a subject without prompt if it means helping another individual that he likes.

Flaws:

Timid — Slate's word choice intimates great timidity. With constant filler words like "uh", "just", and "kinda", Slate neuters any sense of confidence that comes from his body posture. Apart from his affect, he struggles at times with approaching people for requests or simple questions, and will occasionally refrain from even asking. His uncertainty may lead to more dominating personalities dictating the course of the conversation, or even manipulating his actions to serve their purposes - and Slate seldom finds the confidence to stand up to them. Due to this trait, he finds much more comfort in following someone than trying to lead - and it absolves him of a lot of personal responsibility.

Assumptive — While intelligent, Slate utilizes what he knows to predict the unknown. Behaviors such as constant twitchiness or hypervigilance must mean that they’ve been using drugs. Someone attending the cheerleading squad for their highschool wouldn’t possibly date anyone other than a jock. While his assumptions aren’t always based on stereotypes, they are derived from prior experiences, and so Slate often pigeonholes others into predicted outcomes that he’s encountered before. As he does vocalize these, he commonly offends by conjecturing that someone must be homeless by the way they’re dressed or lack a brain due to careless behavior.

Selectively Moralistic — Slate most certainly has morals, but they do not always apply to him - or apply to everyone in the same manner. His moral compass is a self-serving one that often exuses himself or those he loves from wrongdoing while chastizing others beyond his friend circle for those same transgressions. If he stole a loaf of bread from market because he was starving, this act is excused by virtue of its necessity, but if someone he doesn't know commits the same act, they were wrong for doing it and should have sought help from a soup kitchen or other more legal source. Surprisingly, he's not actually conscious of this flaw; when it surfaces, he hasn't yet put two and two together in regards to the duplicity of the situation.

Vindictive — Once slighted, twice vindicated. Slate knows no ‘losses’. When insulted or attacked, Slate will escalate the altercation until someone gets seriously injured or one of the ones involved has to back down. He does not always win the battles he fights, but he does give his all to thwart any verbal spars or physical confrontations. This behavior is highly dangerous in that others (including himself) can wind up seriously injured from a quarrel that could’ve been resolved with a more level-headed approach, but since Slate sees the prospect of ‘losing’ so abhorrent and aversive, he opts for this destructive behavior instead.

Ochre of the Pentacle

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Senshi: Sailor Sheikh, Corrupted Eternal Senshi of the Pentacle.
Chosen mineral name: Ochre

Challenge: That's the spirit.
Challenge 2: This isn't a game anymore.
Challenge 3: Hey, can you not?

Sailor Scout Attack: Sheikh's Prayer
Range: 8 feet
Number of targets: 1
Duration: Variable
Number of casts: 3
Ochre extends his palm out and a pentagram forms just beyond his raised hand. It glows, and a spirit-shaped energy curves and swirls out at quick speed in a straight line. Once struck, the enemy experiences mild cold-oriented damage (i.e. light skin abrasions and irritation) along with a sense of doom and cold sweat. Lasts 10 seconds. Can be dodged and interrupted.

If hitting a SENSHI... The senshi incurs no damage and no repercussions from being hit. However, Ochre is afterward allowed to cast one iteration of one of the magic attacks, up to the equivalent to his level. For example, if Sailor Ochre strikes Sailor Iris with his attack, he will only be allowed to cast one iteration of her Iris Rainbow Ribbon attack. His ability to make this one cast lasts for a 20 second window.*

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Sheikh's Summon
Range: 8 ft
Number of targets: 3
Duration: Variable
Number of casts: 2
The pentagram becomes a hexagram, and releases three 'spirits' instead of one. They curve ever so slightly toward their target but are still easily avoided. The same amount of cold-oriented damage is physically incurred, same sense of doom and cold sweat, with the added bonus of tunnel vision. Lasts 15 seconds.

If hitting a SENSHI... The senshi incurs no damage and no repercussions from being hit. However, Ochre is afterward allowed to cast one iteration of one of the magic attacks, up to the equivalent to his level. For example, if Super Sailor Sailor Ochre strikes Sailor Thraen with his attack, he will only be allowed to cast one iteration of his Thraen Annual Planting OR one iteration of his Thraen Perennial Planting. If he strikes multiple senshi with his attack, he will have his pick of any of their attacks, but is still only capable of casting one copied attack per use of Sheikh's Summon. He has 30 seconds to cast the attack before the effect fades.*

Eternal Sailor Attack: Mazzaroth
Range: 20 feet diameter
Number of targets: As many as the spirits touch.
Duration: 10 seconds
Number of casts: 1
Ochre clasps his hands together in front of himself and closes his eyes. After three seconds of meditation, a large and ornate pentagram lights up on the ground beneath his feet. It glows brightly, and a second later, a cluster of five spirits erupt from each point and spiral outward in a tight circle, meandering up to 20 feet away from the pentagram. These spirits are difficult to dodge, but can be leapt over if one jumps toward Ochre.

When struck, the target will immediately become frozen in thick ice, in a contorted and painful position. The target cannot be damaged by outside sources for the duration of the freeze, which lasts ten seconds. During that time the target experiences a foreboding sense of doom, inability to breathe, and if wanted by the player, can leave cold-borne rashes or blisters. The ice shatters once the duration concludes, and the subject is released from the sense of doom. Numbness may occur in the extremities for a handful of seconds afterward.

*A NOTE ABOUT SENSHI ATTACK COPY: If the original attack was only meant to harm Chaos, it will be augmented to a 'dark version' that only harms Order. If the attack buffs Order and harms Chaos, then the attack will change to buff Chaos and harm Order. Nothing else about the attack will change from its original version. Additionally, if there is a limit on the number of the attacks for the senshi copied, for example the limit is two, then even if Ochre casts 3 times on that senshi, he can only use the attack copied twice. Also, copying an attack does not immediately grant Ochre knowledge of what the attack does - he only knows how to execute its casting. He cannot exceed any parameter set in the senshi's written attacks.

Events

Something's wrong when you regret

Things that haven't happened yet

Dystopian Future
Character name: Sailor Sheikh // Slade Ehnes (formerly Ochre // Slate Blackwell)
Faction: He purified! Sheikh is now a White Moon senshi.
Rank: Eternal
What are they doing now? Sheikh is now a member of the Mainstay, using his memories about his time in the Negaverse to benefit any operations. He tries to stay off the front lines when possible - his former status with the Negaverse promises a gruesome end if he risked capture. Shiekh spends his down time floating about the hospital, talking with some of the injured, and possibly harassing the hospital staff to try to liven their mood.
Any big/important things that have happened to the character during the past five years that you'd like to share? Most of Ochre's Negaverse career ran middling, with his presence neither particularly beneficial or cumbersome. He climbed the ranks out of necessity more than anything - having stuck dutifully to his quotas, the steadiness of his work earned promotions when the Negaverse needed men to fill higher roles. He never learned to like youma, and often paired his patrols with his brother to avoid their presence. His growing displeasure with the Negaverse heightened when his brother, anger piqued from many frustrations and failings, struggled immensely with the temptation to allow youma to devour Ochre's starseed. Minutes passed in the standstill before he finally ordered the youma to leave, which left Ochre shaken and irreparably distrustful.

He met Hvergelmir during his days as a super senshi. At the time she still retained her tongue, and was patient and steadfast in convincing him to shirk his duties and resume life as a White Moon senshi. Further falling out with his brother finally pushed him toward the inevitable, and Ochre became Super Sailor Sheikh. Sometime afterward, he encountered Umber again, who promptly skinned off the tattoo from his face.

Initially Sheikh wasn't keen on joining up with the White Moon side of the war, preferring to remain a civilian for a full year to become reacquainted with his new life. He met and started dating a woman, who he later discovered was a knight, who finally persuaded him to rejoin the fight. They became engaged after a time, though a particularly bloody ambush left his fiancee dead. Burying her by way of tradition on his planet fulfilled the last vestiges for him to transcend.

Since then, Sheikh prefers to keep his company at arm's length. He hasn't yet reached the point where he could let others in.

_______DF Archive

1 - Purified Sheikh, aka Slade, runs into the one who pulled him from the Negaverse again. He would've preferred it more if they hadn't met again over a body.
2 - Sheikh and Ida visit their respective planets to revitalize themselves and collect necessary supplies.

_______ORPs

How the Mighty Fall - Some agents of the Negaverse finally decide to rid themselves of Chariklo. They lure her to a theme park ride with the bait of Amytis and attempt to take her down.
Luna Bay Concert - During an inauspicious concert, a youma drops from the ceiling to wreak havoc on its denizens. The doors locked for some reason, but there are no Negaverse agents present to indicate an operation.
Keep Your Halos Tight - A small Negaverse squad was dispatched to eliminate or capture one Sailor Sandrine. After revealing her identity to Shale, that information was soon reported and the small-scale operation ensued. However, Jack eluded the squad long enough to fire off a distress signal and complicated matters greatly.
PTA: Train Car - Ochre glowers at everything. Is charged with gathering starseeds, refuses to participate properly, gets glared at by Amphitrite. Generally useless.
East India House - Benitoite's tea house gets discovered, and Ochre attempts to defend it with the rest of the inhabitants.

_______Negaverse Siege Meta

Storming the Castle - Ochre comes to aid the Negaverse in stopping Order inside of their very own Negaverse cathedral. He watches Apatite die, and assists a lieutenant in getting the hell out of there.
Turning Tides - Ochre goes to the final battle with Prehnite, and goes to meet up with Xenotime in becoming a veritable force.

_______Mirrorscape Meta
The Gauntlet - Ochre falls out of the mirror room and into...
