It was hard not to let a little bit of training go to her head. But it was nice to feel confident, even if the training had hardly been backbreaking, it was still something. It was better than just waiting for something to attack from the shadows and hoping she had the right mix of luck and ability to come out of it alive.

Out on patrol, Aludra couldn’t quite let go of the feeling that she owned this neighbourhood and that she would be able to protect it from whatever nasties came her way. Perhaps it was just that spending time with Teide also left her full of hope.

The chibi had checked on the school and had circled around home, running down streets in the dark and leaping lightly over fences or on top of houses when it suited her. Usually she powered down long before reaching her street, usually she walked alone in the dark as a civilian until she had reached her house and would either sneak through the back door or climb up the tree outside her window.

Not today, today she stayed powered up as she returned home, stopping in the next door neighbours yard to pat the dog.

Ochre hated neighborhoods.

Maybe hate was a strong word, but he found that he experienced more mishaps and intentions gone awry in neighborhoods than he ever did in the industrial sectors of the city. Bizarrely, he found that his hair got caught on protrusions much more often in a neighborhood than in any manufacturing districts where slows of scrap lined the paved roads regularly. He also encountered far too many dogs willing to chase him, far too many paranoid parents willing to wave their guns from their stoops, and far too many inconvenient fences that had swimming pools on the other side.

He also still lamented that he couldn't change his inertia mid-leap. He would've gladly traded the teleportation skill he hadn't yet learned to be able to redirect his jumps - especially since winter was turning brutal.

He turned down another brightly lit street and expected to find more of the same barrenness awaiting him. Inwardly he ranted about why he couldn't have just chosen any other location, why anyone would bother demanding that he learn neighborhoods when there was absolutely no benefit to being there, and how attempting to fill a quota here was about as likely as his brother purifying. But as he traveled among the carefully-manicured bushes, passed the street-parked cars, and glared dourly through the wrought-iron fencing, a part of him that wa҉s͡n't ̀h̶im applied a gentle reminder that his line of thinking wasn't beneficial.

Ochre halted then, and realized that a dichotomy lurked nearby. Something not far from him both enticed and revolted him with such a purity that he couldn't hope to ignore it - not in any facet of his mind. It didn't feel so different than White Moon senshi, but he wondered if that was accurate. The least he could do was find out.

So over that wrought-iron fence he went, crossed through the blessedly dog-free yard, and leapt over the gate leading to the backyard. There, he did hear the sudden and sharp bark of a dog, but he reminded himself to stand firm. He could put down a puppy if he had to.

And then he saw her - a little girl much younger than he, not far from the dog in question.

"Hi," he started disarmingly, "is this your house?" He paused, then smiled. Maybe he could earn a reward for this.

Aludra was caught entirely unprepared. It wasn’t that she hadn’t felt the Corrupt’s approach (he energy signature was as clear as day) but she was mentally incapable of processing its arrival. It was too close to home, to close to her powering down and curling up in bed. She was acutely aware that her parents were just next door, fast asleep and just how vulnerable they were was suddenly, painfully clear. It was as if part of a nightmare was unfolding, that distant horrible future where darkness had rotted her to the core.

The dog was still yapping around her feet, a young yorkie desperate for attention. She was already in mid-motion of patting the furry animal and she deliberately finished the motion, scratching behind his ears, before straightening.

"No," she said, trying to stay calm, trying to stop her fear from making her voice tremble. He might be friendly. She had to hope that he would prefer to talk. He could be like Persephone had been, taken from Order by tragic circumstance and capable of being redeemed. "I was just on patrol in the area." And because it seemed polite to offer some form a trust, she gave him her name. "I’m Sailor Aludra."

Okay, thanks. I've been looking forward to this rp. <3

"Oh, that's too bad." Ochre responded in equal nonchalance as his gaze strayed to the building. "So I guess you like to break into people's back yards for no reason? Cuz, last time I checked, it's not like you guys have a quota that forces you to go looking for people. Guerrilla trespassing isn't my thing, you see, I'm just after my quota." He continued to pace toward her, which he knew might rile the dog. He needn't worry about that, though - not when he could jump buildings in a single bound.

"So, Sailor Aludra. If you help me with my quota, I promise I'll be nice and not hurt the family that lives here. You know, the family whose back yard you just happen to be in. Petting their dog. Who isn't biting the s**t out of you. You know. Just that random completely unrelated family." His gaze strayed toward the door once more, and he considered - a best friend's house, perhaps, or her own house (but would anyone be that stupid?), or a relative's house. Maybe he'd find pictures of her in there, somewhere.

Ochre scratched at his ear, dug around in the canal with the sharp fingernail of his pinky. It itched nonetheless. "Or, I mean, you could lose your s**t and attack me. Or i could go first. We could play this however you want. I'm not picky.

"But I am a little bit religious, you see." Ochre held his hand out, palm facing the small senshi. "I need to say a Sheikh's Prayer first." A white mist formed at the palm before heading in her direction.

Ruriska
sorry i missed this! Thank you for requoting!

Sailor Scout Attack: Sheikh's Prayer
Range: 8 feet
Number of targets: 1
Duration: Variable
Number of casts: 3
Ochre extends his palm out and a pentagram forms just beyond his raised hand. It glows, and a spirit-shaped energy curves and swirls out at quick speed in a straight line. Can be dodged and interrupted.

If hitting a SENSHI... The senshi incurs no damage and no repercussions from being hit. However, Ochre is afterward allowed to cast one iteration of one of the magic attacks, up to the equivalent to his level. For example, if Sailor Ochre strikes Sailor Iris with his attack, he will only be allowed to cast one iteration of her Iris Rainbow Ribbon attack. His ability to make this one cast lasts for a 20 second window.*

She was proud of herself when she didn’t step backwards. As he paced towards her she held her ground, covering her trembling hands with clenched fists. The dog, as if sensing something was wrong, had crept away, ears back. It whined uncertainly, tail still slowly wagging in hopeless optimism.

“We don’t have to fight. You don’t have to hurt anyone,” the words spilled out in a tumble, her hands coming up as if they would pose some sort of protection and would somehow keep his attack from hitting. “Please, we can just talk. I want to help you.” And she did, just as she wanted to help them all to rise out of the darkness.

“Please don’t,” she said as the attack formed and the white mist formed and approached. She waited, already flinching but- nothing? The attack hadn’t done anything. Or else it had, she just wouldn’t feel the repercussion of it yet. It didn’t matter. She wouldn’t just stand here and let him hurt her or her family or anybody else.

As Aludra turned away, she beckoned him to follow. “I’ll show you The True Path!” And then she ran, a path appearing beneath her feet, even as she jumped over the fence and onto the street, only wanting to get him as far away from her home as possible. It didn’t matter what happened after that, as long as her parents were safe.

Aludra runs ahead, following a path that is appearing beneath her feet. You are compelled to follow her and ignore everything else. It’s hard to focus on anything but what is on the pathway she has made. You glimpse trees in the corner of your eyes. A forest? [Time Limit: 15 seconds].

"Yeah, I don't have to hurt anyone. Except it's kinda part of the job. And I don't have to do the job, either. Except if I don't, I'm stuck in a cell and left to rot for months. So," Ochre held both hands outward, opposite one another, "if my choices are to hurt people," he lowered his left hand, "or sit in a cell for months," he lowered his right hand, "then hurting people it is. Let me tell you, kid. You can't help. You got no idea what these people can do." What happened to I'd rather be dead t̡͜͢ha̕n̨

//____

"Anyway," he started as he watched the mist come into contact with her. Immediately the beginnings of an attack formed in her mind. "Let's not kid ourselves, yeah? I mean, I can play the martyred bad guy and you can- hey, wait!" Ochre huffed, then started after the small girl as she turned away form him altogether. Inwardly he tried to remind himself that he had only precious seconds to use an instance of one of her attacks, but the thought found no hold. It slipped into the passing trees as Ochre continued after the girl, never fully catching up yet never falling entirely behind. He didn't remember the backyard being this wooded, but it was a pointless observation.

He needed to catch her.

"You really wanna help me, kid? Then hold still so I can take your damn starseed!" Ochre continued into a sprint in hopes of catching up with the flighty little girl. He was almost certain that they stood before her parents' house, or her best friend's house or something. And that meant he had all the ammunition in the world against her, if she tried to resist.

Nothing quite compared to teleporting back to where he found her and threatening everyone inside.

It broke her heart. The thought of anyone caught between hurting others and being hurt. Of the threat of being locked away and how the Negaverse corrupted so completely. It made her want to cry. But she didn’t have time to try and talk him out of it, not yet, first she needed to move him away and she ran as fast as she could, the path unravelling at a rapid pace.

She got around the corner to the next block and that’s when the compulsion started to fade. In the middle of the street, she felt it failing and she found herself presented with three options. Stop and attempt to talk her way out out, keep running and hope he kept follow or fight. Fight had always been her last option. She was a still a chibi with only basic training. She could attack him and hope for the best but even if she did incapacitate him someone, then what?

Aludra slowed down and turned to face her opponent. If she kept running, he would just go back and maybe he’d hurt the dog or her neighbours and then eventually he might go next door and find her parents. She couldn’t risk that.

"You can try!" She challenged, filling her voice with false bravado.

all good! <3
I know she can't be corrupted but I'm not sure if he can interact with her starseed or not?

Following the girl demanded more of his time than he bargained for, but a stubborn compulsiveness lingered within him that forced him to tail her. Around the block they went, past picket fences and trimmed yards and perfectly pruned bushes. Over uneven paved sidewalks they darted, with no clear area to corner her. More and more Ochre commanded himself to abandon the pursuit, to turn back now and take care of her family, that doing so was the best idea here, but his feet refused to obey. Soon, though, he slowed himself down with his own persistence. Ochre knew he might be able to break from her now.

And then she stopped. She turned to him, and spoke, and goaded him for action. And why wouldn't he act?

Damn right I'll try, he thought in response. Steeling himself, Ochre charged toward the girl with all the speed he could muster, sparing no thought for any obstacles in his path. When he reached her, he thrust his hand forth with every intent to capture the starseed within. Chaos coated his palm in half a thought before it reached for her chest. I can get her and the family, no problem.

Ruriska
sorry about the wait! I posted in the MQ+A about that very question but it got skipped. I am going to assume that she cannot be corrupted but her starseed is able to be ripped? She is not transcended, and transcended chibi can exist I believe.

It really wasn’t how she’d expected it to go. Yes she had challenged him but he hadn’t hesitated, not in the slightest and she had mere seconds to decide what to do. Aludra knew they could reach into her chest and tear out her soul. Even if Aludra had never witnessed it, she remembered. In that terrible nightmare world where evil had rooted itself deep inside her body, she had pulled and devoured starseeds, had laughed as though killing was the best of fun.

She tried to decide- Forward or backwards? -what move to make but then forward wasn’t an option because he was coming too quick, he was reaching for her and she was terrified. Her backwards step was sloppy, her ankle twisted and she was falling, arms pinwheeling uselessly. She felt herself hit the ground, a small cry escaped and the primal part of her brain urged her to kick out, roll, do something.

But it was too late.

Ochre watched her fall, but his body locked itself into an auto pilot that left Ochre looking on just as helplessly as his victim. It was strange, he thought, to watch himself reach for someone. He knew he hadn't quite made a decision on what to do with her yet. It felt, suspiciously, like someone else w̕͜͟͡͏á̵̷̛͡s̸̵͞͝ XXXX

The corrupted senshi leaned over in his run and reached directly for her starseed, nearly as casually as one reaching to pluck car keys off the ground. Her gasp, her surprise, her frailty mattered little in that moment. A simple seize-and-leave ensured that he went home with a starseed in hand. The Negaverse would congratulate him. Xenotime may reward him herself. His brother might find reason to stick around again. As his thoughts progressed, seemingly all aspects of his life would improve drastically if he could simply pluck the girl's soul and go home with it.

And pluck it, he did.

He tore it free like a fruit from a tree. He held it in his hands, brilliant in its glow, even more than that of the civilians he caught in the past. Ochre trotted to a stop then, some feet from her prone body, and looked at the fresh acquisition intently. Somewhere, a dog barked. Briefly he thought it was the same dog that he found her by. The thought led to her family - as any small girl has a family, he figured - and how they would take the loss of their loved one. She would be discovered dead on the sidewalk the following morning. A funeral would ensue. Child coffins made at the local funeral home. They might autopsy her, try to find a cause of death for a perfectly healthy girl. And then, of course, came the mourning.

Like how his own mother was probably mourning him now, alongside the loss of Shale.

"s**t," he cursed to himself. "s**t s**t s**t." Immediately the corrupt broke into a frantic pace. One hand combed through his too-long hair while the other clutched the starseed tightly. Part of him urged him toward the brighter future with the relinquishment of the starseed, and part of him reminded him of the carnage he left in his wake.

"You know what? Fine. ******** it. Not today." The redhead huffed toward the sky, padded over to the body, and crouched before her. It hardly looked like she was breathing. "Just don't... ******** go running around neighborhoods powered up. You almost got yourself killed. And your dog. And your family. I'm gonna forget this place exists. Just stop being stupid, okay?" And with that, he dropped the starseed to her chest.

It slipped beyond her chest, as if its return was as natural as water coursing through its banks. <********>," he exclaimed at last, and before it echoed around the neighborhood, he was gone.

There was pain and fear. Her eyes went wide and round, pleading. She lifted a hand to ward him off but there was really nothing she could do. Panicked thoughts chased their way around her head (no, no, no, no, please no), the explosive of pain as his hand grasped deep inside her chest and then- nothing. With her starseed plucked free, her body slumped lifelessly back against the cold concrete.

Darkness.

Only darkness.

Then light.

As soon her starseed was returned, she sucked in a startled breath, one hand pressing against her chest as she took in frantic little gasps. Aludra rolled over onto her side, curled in on herself. He was gone and with it cloying darkness of the Negaverse aura. But a mark remained, burnt into her mind. She’d felt a dark future made possible and it terrified her right down to her core.

fin!
