General King Axinite Location: B6 Action: Speaking with Taenite and keeping an eye out for Tyndareus
Axinite surveyed the scene with a grim expression, something a bit more detached than usual. There was no softness in his features, only a dreadful nothingness. His eyes moved but almost nothing else did.
There was little information to be uncovered here but he tried. He watched the spike-bearers charge through the crowd. Watched them seek out what might be their only hope to subdue this thing.
Five of six spikes might not be good enough.
There was plenty to worry about. Order seemed like they were behaving, at least.
He’d seen the beast. Part of it. He knew, at least in part, what they were up against. They really didn’t seem like they had much of a chance at all.
He had faith in Metallia, though. Laurelite was here. There was no shortage of their numbers, or their enemy’s.
He saw Taenite and nodded, accepting his presence. Maybe welcoming it, not that he had the means to show it. He looked for Tyndareus to make sure he hadn’t gotten lost along the way.
Location: G6. Action: With Grieve, Róka, and Hy-Brasil. Playing up the scared uwu baby act.
Reflexively, Nekoite nodded in response to being called stupid and let the large alien lady pull him off where she pleased.
He didn’t really enjoy it very much, but he didn’t want to die and all of this was already quite a lot. Princesses?? She wasn’t really going to take him to one of those nasty, mangy jerks with the big poofy dresses if Nekoite didn’t get away from her, was she? As she tugged him along, he looked around, searching for anybody he recognized, but being so new to the Negaverse, he didn’t see anybody. Felt a lot of auras, yes, but none of them came attached to familiar faces.
Like trying to make his way through a new game with familiar aesthetics and play-styles but no characters or anything else he recognized.
“You were married to a princess, then,” he asked, still letting the big yellow lady haul him around like an incredibly cute, sparkly-eyed sack of potatoes that could at least walk on its own two legs. “Since you said your ex-wife? Was it, like, a royal wedding with the huge fancy dresses and the ceremonial outfits and stuff? Did you…are you, like, okay? From the divorce arc and stuff?”
From the way that this alien lady acted, Nekoite strongly suspected that the answer was “not really,” but his kidnapper seemed to respond well to him playing stupid and acting like a wide-eyed innocent. Maybe he could get some good intel out of this to take back to Ashanite and Arsenolite by way of apologizing for having gotten himself into a stupid situation with more powerful Order people for a second time.
There were a lot of things that Skoll was used to by this point with the war and teleporting and all that sort of thing. She'd been in mirrors, the moon, the rift, her own world. But this was entirely different. Between the lightning strikes and the sudden forceful relocation, Skoll stumbled on her feet.
She stared at the storm around them, at the giant wrym snaking around the clouds. Oh they were so going to die. At least the three of them would be together though.
Skoll reached for Hati and Asmodeus, and led them to the side slightly. Open space, good visuals on what else was going on. Now all they had to do was kill a world eating snake.
The second Mira got off her knees and realized the crowd was thinning? She moved in a direction, disoriented, nauseous. She wasn't made for this kind of bullshit! Her body was delicate!

A round, purple berry that was firm to the touch and smelled sweet; it had a soft skin and was roughly the size of a cherry tomato. - Saving in Bag in Subspace. A bracelet that demands to be worn; something about it compels you to keep on your person. It is simple silver but has a multi-faceted, raindrop shaped gemstone charm dangling from it. The teardrop shaped gemstone has a silver glint to it and might have appeared clear if it weren’t for the swirling white mist trapped inside. Energy hummed inside these crystals–harvested, stored. Waiting to be used. There is a familiarity about them, though it may be hard to place. The Negaverse might feel as if it is a strange summoning, a call to arms. -- Wearing It.

It was hard amidst the chaos to watch the others break off, and though his heart lurched in one direction, his feet lurched in another.
"Fafnir!" was that a skirt of blue, a streak of horn? He was tempted to reach out and tug on the man--
'The brothers should be together.' His mind screamed -- and he felt a squirm across the heft laying along his back and shoulder, the scrabble of kitten claws. His one deeply heaved sigh of relief -- even as he lost track of the teams split -- his bestest haybonded was with him.
The others he'd find again soon as he figured his lefts from rights from ups from downs.

Location: A4. Action: With Faustite, Hestia, and Mizuki. Having some Big Emotions and trying to act like he’s not. Preparing to provide backup to Faustite and Hestia.
As much as he liked to think that he had a handle on himself and his feelings, Ilmari could not help face-cracking at what Faustite signed to the team. He didn’t regret working to learn ASL. Their leader needed ASL to communicate, and learning was important for being able to best serve the team. But as Faustite’s hands moved, signing out If any of us don’t make it though, it’s been a damn fine honor to work with all of you, Ilmari’s eyes went wide. For a moment, he felt like he couldn’t breathe.
People didn’t really like Ilmari, insofar as he knew. Not outside of communities on the Internet that he preferred not to share with anybody. People liked his parents’ money, or they liked the idea of getting Ilmari to ******** them, but they didn’t like him. It hadn’t been like that with the team, though. Even with his assorted failures, they’d given him so much room to grow. So much of their faith. They’d accepted him as he was and accepted that he was challenging himself to do better even if it didn’t always show (at least not in Ilmari’s opinion).
Looking at Faustite, Ilmari felt his chest tighten. People only said things like It’s been a damn fine honor when they really didn’t think they’d be coming back. Even with the horrendous pain of getting thrown through space by the storm, Ilmari only felt the pain of the threatened absence: losing Faustite, losing anybody from the team, having to adjust to the hole that would have been left in his life and the rug-pull sensation of getting knocked on his a** because he’d come to see these people as his team—his people—would have been gone.
As soon as his feet hit the ground, Ilmari was looking for the team. As soon as they moved, he was with them, ready to follow Hestia, bearing the spike, and Faustite, currently only in the shape of fire, into anything. Wherever they went, he would follow and use his magic to give them whatever protection he could. Nobody from this team was allowed to ******** die.

Half Youma Captain Janggunite and Youma Maikoh (Maikoh is getting distracted by Lameia's praise, Jan is just happy she's paused in her efforts to eat someone's starseed) Location: To H2 with Carnotite and Lameia Action: Maikoh taking deep and personal interest in this corrupted senshi, Janggu is wondering if poor Carnotite is okay. :<
Ah! It had been so long (if ever) that anyone had felt the desire to tend to Maikoh and her needs. This snack in front of her was so considerate- such a human flaw that Maikoh had no problems with exploiting on others. But! In this moment it was very welcome. She preened, puffing out her chest fur and bending down just barely enough that the shorter Senshi would have easier access to pin the gem to her furs, as she offered her open sack to the girl to retrieve the necessary brooch.
"You should be rewarded, snack." It was good of their ilk to tend to a Youma. Perhaps they would not be so despised if more were like her. She lowered her head, careful of the proximity of her antlers to the girl. "You may touch Maikoh's soft ear. May it bring you ferocity and courage in the fight ahead."
Because there would be a fight. It crackled through the air like a discordant song- Maikoh could practically feel it vibrating her bones.
Janggunite could only roll his eyes at his monstrous partner. What an absurd, ridiculous creature- significantly more trouble than she was worth in this situation, but whatever. Jan would not regret his decision to have another body on their side of the field. ...Even if that body was unruly and wild. Perhaps she would be less so with Laurelite's imposing aura nearby.
"Carnotite and Lameia," he parroted, soft pink eyes skating between the two of them as if memorizing their names and faces. "Oh, it's not worth apologizing over," Jan said with a dismissive shrug. "She just... has her own way of things, and sometimes that way doesn't involve me, even though I am her bonded officer. And she should. Listen." He glanced in her direction just to see a fluffy, swaying tail and flickering ears. She heard him; she just didn't care.
But that was as much conversation as they had before the lightning struck, once, twice, thrice. The world split and opened onto a dark plane, roiling with clouds and streaked with lightning still.
It frazzled against the delicate ends of the webbing around his ears, the frills around his tail. Janggunite could feel this atmosphere. ...Though not as much as Carnotite, he suspected. As Lameialed there group further from the central focus of this new area, Janggunite folded his other hand over the one Carnotite had on his arm.
Even though they'd just met, and he didn't know her or her abilities very well, anyone with eyes could see that there was something sparkling in the air around her- her own lightning, reacting to the atmosphere's. What was uncomfortable for him could be worse for her. "...Are you well? If not, I'm not sure there's much to do about it, besides get this over with quickly." Although Carnotite had Lameia in this mess with her, Janggunite was acutely aware of how disastrously solitary their lifestyle could be. "We'll stand with you, if that helps."
Hati couldn't help a grin, even in these dire circumstances, at Skoll and Asmo's antics. "Twin powers and the power of love," he said with a sort of fond exasperation. "We'll stop this thing somehow. We have to."
Demeter felt very awkward staying with a group of people they hardly knew, whose side they weren't even on, technically, when Earth wasn't facing big threats. But they did feel sort of welcome and managed an awkward smile at Ariadne. She seemed nice.
Lete was a permanent comfort, here, and Demeter felt warm even here at the possible end of the world, just from Lete taking their hand. And then Lete spoke and Demeter's face flamed up as they squeaked out a thank you, unable to say anything more. Oh, Lete...
"You are so perfect, you know that?" Demeter finally managed to say, voice raw.
Belenos happily followed along with the Dark Mirror Court, feeling kind of bubbly despite the danger. It was nice to see everyone working together. Though, she hoped her healing magic could hold out. She really, really needed it to.

Hokusai had only recently become a knight of mercury so this teleporting thing was already new to her and the feeling of this wormhole was a while other thing all altogether. She sighed as she tried to catch her breath and steady herself after arriving in the storm. There were a number of other senshis and knights, dark mirrors, corrupts, negas. So many people were fighting for the fate of the world. Then she saw the huge scale in the sky. She gapped at the thing how in the name of anything were they going to survive this fight? Was a natural thing to think.
Hokusai frowned at the message she had noticed the storms but she was new to being a knight well page since she was brand new. She had never been to a battle before and she didn't even have magic yet but she went to the summons anyway. She knew even the smallest effort had the power to help. She had the strength of a page so she was going to use her strength to help others. She made a epp sound when the bag appeared and she opened it and blinked. She put on the bracelet. Then the pin she had no idea what the berry was. She remembered the merchant she was pretty sure she met him before she became a knight. Before she even knew what magic was. (Word count 235)

Rabbit had felt it in her bones that they were running out of time they had to go wherever they had to go in order to save the earth. She was a page of the moon but that didn't matter earth was her home too even if she wasn't an Earth knight. She let the feeling of the wormhole hit her since she didn't have any other choice in the matter. She arrived and stood for a bit to steady herself. Then she walked off to join one of the groups. She looked up at the sky and didn't like what she saw. This wasn't going to be an easy battle and it was her first major battle.
Rabbit was in a hurry she was always in a hurry and this seemed really important and information had been found on her homeworld. She had missed a lot since she was busy doing the work the Code had tasked her with cleaning up her wonder. She hadn't been watching the storm for a while. Now she was here and this was freaky. Still she hoped they had arrived in enough time to get there and fight whatever the heck was doing that to the sky since the sky wasn't supposed to do that. She had being reading everything on the database so she knew about the merchants and did what the note said and put on the bracelet since it seemed important. She trusted her gut in all things. She cuddled her bunny. She was determined to help however she could. (Word count 260)
Teleporting to Negaspace wasn't the worst. Teleporting through reality? Not so great. Wouldn't recommend it. Yeah, he'd braced himself fine when the storm really kicked up, but getting sent through the rip in the air like that? He'd rather go jump in a jacuzzi or some s**t to get the aches out.
Goals for later, at least.
He looked briefly to Rigel and Spectrolite, confirming they were stable, before motioning for them to stay somewhat close. He wanted to at least keep an eye on them. Given where they were heading off to, not far from his own goal after Jet and Aquamarine, that worked out well.
post 12 A6, with Spectrolite, Fluorapatite, Dravite
"Let's stay a bit back here. No need to crowd where the spike is," he hummed to Spectrolite as they lingered a bit away while Seraphinite ran on. "Something tells me being near an object that looks like a lightning rod might not be so great for everyone." As it was, Rigel himself was delighted with everything. He was looking around everywhere, in awe of the space--what was with this landmass? Why could he almost see through it? Could they make it more solid? Was there more?
Yes, he saw the brief glimpses of the serpent. Yes, he saw the scales as big as a bus. Yes, he knew the immense, horrific power that must be behind such a thing.
If he died here, he'd die happy that he got to glimpse something so truly beyond this world, beyond all of them to the point they needed to actually work with the White Moon to try and take this thing down. Oh. Right, and the little Vanguard people. Whatever they were doing.
He waved cheerfully to the other two in the area (Fluorapatite, Dravite) but otherwise was rather distracted trying to get better looks of the world-ending creature.
"...I hate when you've got a point." She scowled where she stood beside the senshi, rubbing her upper arms to try and break away from the chill and dread that had just been... clinging to her. She'd already helped Rigel put the pin on and make sure he had the bracelet on like Jet had said, also making sure she was all set in that regard. Part of her was more than a bit upset that Seraphinite had kept on going to keep up with Aquamarine and Jet, but she could still see him where he was now. But Rigel reminding her of the whole... lightning threat, especially towards the things that were a huge threat to the creature?
Yeah she wasn't too happy on that.
The presence of the Queen was... somewhat comforting, at least. She looked so calm. So at ease. Should she be, too?
Lifting a hand at least to wave to the others near them (Fluorapatite, Dravite) she offered a small smile. "Hi. Don't think we've had the chance to meet. I'm Spectrolite, and this is Rigel."
Location: E10. Action: With Elsa, Aruna, Daedalus, Tempesti, and Harmonia. And also a bunch of other people! Getting ready to do spike things. Aruna is being moved with Lena Roze's permission!
Murikabushi expected a great many things, making a pep-talk like that for his friends. He expected Aruna and Tempesti to protest the idea of him going alone. Both of them had nerve, no matter how anxious they were and how much more they needed to believe in themselves, in their power as senshi. Maybe they, as yet, struggled to advocate for themselves but their strength came out when pressed because they didn’t let bad things happen to other people.
He expected Daedalus to tell him that he refused to let Murikabushi shoulder any kind of heavy burden on his own, especially not after Murikabushi had given him a home on Earth and helped to clear the Chaos off Daedalus’s world. Over two lifetimes, they’d managed to find each other as friends, first with Airan finding Soren and then with Reiki-Murikabushi being the first to find him when he’d crashed to Earth. Daedalus didn’t accept the idea of people giving him friendship that he didn’t meet in kind.
He didn’t really know what to expect from Harmonia, but she seemed like the kind sort, so she probably wouldn’t be interested in letting someone run into danger without backup. Amidst the swirling storm clouds of whatever this place-between was supposed to be, Harmonia struck Murikabushi as somebody who always wanted to support others.
But Murikabushi did not in a million years expect to feel Elsa’s hands cupping around his face.
He didn’t expect to find himself yielding, both startled and trusting, as Elsa rocked up and tugged him down.
For a brief moment, time slowed down around them. Murikabushi’s eyes went wide. His heart raced, throwing itself around his chest like a caged beast that ached to run free. He isn’t gonna…… Murikabushi thought, because the idea sounded so preposterous.
There’s no way he’s gonna…… After how long they’d known each other, and with Elsa being so outspoken about what he wanted, whenever he wanted something or someone (true both as he’d been before—and why the ******** could Murikabushi never remember his old civilian name, it felt so unfair, because Elsa had chosen it for himself and it meant something to him, and Murikabushi so badly wanted to remember something that mattered so much to Elsa—and increasingly as Elior)……
……Is he really—? After all of that, all the chances they’d both had, surely Elsa would’ve said something.
Surely, he would’ve let Murikabushi know by now. Before all of this. If he’d ever felt the same way that Murikabushi did about him—if he’d ever wanted anything else besides their platonic friendship—if he’d ever remotely wanted Murikabushi the way that Murikabushi had long wanted him, even back when he’d been Reiki and magical girl had been little more than an aesthetic he channeled in some of his drag numbers, loving tributes to the magical girl anime heroines he’d wanted to be as a child……
How do I know you aren’t cheating on me with him, some old specter of Greg’s voice played back in Murikabushi’s mind, throwing out accusations in order to deflect from the actual infidelity on his own part. From the way he’d lied to Justin about not having a fiancé and the way that he’d lied to Reiki about just working late nights for the state-senator. In the original confrontation, he knew that Greg had used Elsa’s real former civilian name. The way the memory played around it felt so strange, but that didn’t stop it: I’ve seen the way you look at him. The way he looks at you. He goes to all your shows, the way you know that I can’t do anymore. Do you think I’m so stupid, I can’t guess that there might be something there between you? As if it isn’t bad enough that you won’t let go of Yuki—
In the original moment, Reiki had cut Greg off by yelling at him. Snapping that he hadn’t slept with Yuki since Greg had asked him to stop, because he respected that boundary within their relationship, but Greg had no ******** right to ask that Reiki stop spending time with Yuki, or that he abandon his queerplatonic partner just to salve Greg’s ******** ego.
In this moment, the memory derailed from the feeling of Elsa’s lips crashing ever so gently into Murikabushi’s.
He gasped, but only slightly. Only a brief inhale before he threw himself into the liplock, kissing back without regard for the overwhelming presence of Chaos around them. Without regard for the fact that Jet and Aquamarine had landed nearby, or noticing whether or not they had moved. Without regard for whether or not Faustite, who had to be somewhere nearby himself, saw anything. With somehow even less regard for the serpent menacing them, storming around as though it owned the place and they owed it any terror in the face of its bullshit.
Of course, the kiss couldn’t last forever.
Of course, Elsa stepped back—but Murikabushi understood that it wasn’t because Elsa didn’t want to continue. Under other circumstances, they might have done. But under the circumstances currently before them, they had to focus.
“You better mean that seriously,” Murikabushi said softly, “because I can do this all day.”
No more time left for exchanging those sweet nothings, though. The stormclouds surged around them. The spike in Murikabushi’s hand burned hotter, and even though it didn’t hurt him, it did feel like it was getting impatient about being kept from its purpose in this universe. Nodding, a brief affirmation to Elsa that they were in this together, Murikabushi turned back to the group.
“Okay, if you’re all in, then let’s go ******** s**t up and save the day.” Gently but intently, he took Aruna by the wrist. “Thank you, all of you. I couldn’t ask for better friends to be with me for this.”
Then, he took off like a shot for the spot where the spike wanted him to be. With only a deep breath to prepare himself, Murikabushi jammed the thing into the ground.
Page 8,Page 22 Location: D8 Action: With Amarynthos, Dering, and Reims. Watching Sessrumnir and Alastor head over to the Queen.
Ephesus gasped as he looked up at the sky, immediately shrinking back against Amarynthos as though trying to hide. He knew he couldn’t. He knew this was what he’d volunteered to do. He knew it was either fight or stay with his grandmother and the children and wait and hope the world didn’t end.
He couldn’t leave his parents to fight on their own. And he couldn’t leave his friends. Not after everything they’d been through, or how much they’d accomplished to get to this point. He couldn’t bring them sandwiches or tell them they were doing a good job here in this realm. But he had his magic. And his determination.
Not too far from them, he could see Alastor and Sessrumnir heading towards the Negaverse Queen, herself. A quiet, worried sob escaped before Ephesus could stop himself. He wanted to make sure they’d be okay, but he knew that keeping their distance would be safer not just for them, but they wouldn’t be there to distract them.
And yet, as the fear welled inside him, he couldn’t help but helplessly lift the back of his hand to his mouth so he could whisper frantically into his signet ring to them. To ask them to not go over there. To beg them to stay back.
He couldn’t do it. Tears filled his eyes as he watched his parents and Lucien move across the field with Ganymede and Valhalla. And others were joining.
“Please be safe…”
It was choked and muffled against his palm. He couldn’t send the message to them. He didn’t want to risk drawing anyone else’s attention. He didn’t want anyone else to hear his voice and piece the puzzle together.
He could feel the thoughts from Amarynthos. How proud he was and how much he loved him. Ephesus was certain Mary could feel the fear and apprehension from him in return. But also love. And hope. Desperate hope that things would be okay and they could all go home to a world safe from destruction.
‘I’m okay,’ he thought to Amarynthos through the earrings they shared, quickly wiping the tears away from his eyes. He wanted to collapse onto the ground and sob. To tremble in fear and despair, because how could they actually manage to defeat something so huge?
He knew he couldn’t. He wouldn’t. Because he also held a lot of hope, a lot of trust in what they’d built.
Alastor was right -- when had there ever been so many Senshi and Knights working together? With their enemies and those they didn’t know if they could trust.
He had to believe that the Negaverse would need them, like Jet needed Dering to get to his Wonder. That their value outweighed wanting to slaughter them all. At least before the serpent was subdued or killed.
Page 2, Page 15, Page 22 Location: D8 Action: With Dering, Amarynthos, and Ephesus. Freaking tf out.
“What the <********> is this place?” Reims stammered as he stared up in absolute horror at the gigantic creature circling them in the purple clouds above. Below? They were completely surrounded by clouds and lightning ********>,” he hissed again, a little more aggressive than necessary as he made sure to keep a hand on Dering’s arm. Sure, it was the hand covered in glitter, but they obviously had more important things to worry about. He did not want them to get separated, but released him once they were all together on solid ground.
If anyone could consider a weird flat surface solid ground!! It was practically see through!!
Oh, he was going to have a heart attack. Oh-- that meant Malus was going to have a heart attack.
He desperately looked around for the Eternal Senshi of Glass, hoping that he was at least with his mean Saturn Knight friend. Obviously Reims knew who he was, but he was still a jerk for no reason at any given time.
“Okay, this is fine,” he decided and took a deep breath. “Dering, how long can you make your shield last? Have you tried? Okay, it’s okay if you haven’t. Don’t use it until we absolutely need it. If we stay together then. Yeah, it should be fine.”
He could tell that Ephesus was freaking out, and he made a grimaced expression when he glanced to see what got him so worked up. Oh. Sure. People thought it would be a good idea to face off with the Queen.
On any other day, he might have joined in, but he could see Dering breaking apart, and he wasn’t going to leave him……..
Although he did have shield magic……..
No, that was a bad idea. He was going to stay at least a little ways away. For now.
Seemed Prehnite’s help with the glitter was ultimately unnecessary as the winds took care of what he wasn’t able to brush off. But then the pressure increased and Sunstone found herself leaning forward from the pain of being crushed, and the air being ripped from her lungs. Hse pressed her forehead against his shoulder while clutching her bag in one hand.
Before she had a chance to orient herself, Prehnite was pulling her to her feet, his grip firm around her wrist as he quite forcefully dragged her away from the center of the area and closer to the outer ring to a place where he perhaps thought they would be safe.
“Your spare dagger… where is it?” Under different circumstances, she’d be asking for it to use herself, but she knew Hylonome’s would need something to defend herself with. Although her own swords were magical and couldn’t cut anything, they did have at least a utility that could be used as a defense.
Tyndareus nodded at Axinite's advice, and began to move by Taenite, then raised his brows at the flirtatious words. Well, that was rather forward for someone who outranked the person who had only just joined the Negaverse. Still, he leaned forward and smirked slightly.
Location: E4, moving to D6. Action: Moving himself, Pyrrhus, and Troilus, and absolutely not stalking Tyndareus.
“I’m ******** fine,” Thalassa groused, pulling himself back up to standing. It wasn’t really the indignity of landing on his a** that had upset him. But—Pyrrhus’s reaction to that a*****e Corrupt in the green overcoat fuku had told Thalassa everything he needed to know. As soon as he was on his feet, Thalassa was moving them around, trying to get them somewhere they could see that stupid ******** who’d had the unmitigated gall to reincarnate as a Chaos senshi. If not for the fact that they needed to stop the Calamitous Hollow first—and the fact that murder would have meant resetting the reincarnation cycle and forcing Pyrrhus to wait for his love all over again—Thalassa would have murdered this stupid ******** all over again.
Reincarnating as a Chaos senshi, Tyndareus? Of all the ******** ideas.
Location: E4, chasing Selenga to G4, with Erytheia and Acrucis in tow. Ending up at H5. Action: With Selenga, Acrucis, and Erytheia. Finding Helene and being gross.
Finding a group struck Kaifeng as a relief—but it was one that didn’t last for very long. The storms whipped up even harder than before, pulling everyone somewhere else, and for the long moment that they were stuck in that Hell, Kaifeng wondered if he was dying. Maybe that was what death felt like, being crushed and rent asunder all at once with no control over any of it.
When he found himself on solid ground once more, he looked around. Quickly, he relocated Erytheia and Acrucis—but it was just in time to see Selenga skulking off elsewhere, apparently contemplating something he’d found in the bag from Almadel. “Ugh, that little—” With a shake of his head, Kaifeng looked back to Erytheia and Acrucis. “Apologies for my cousin, he gets in his own head. I want to stick together, but I won’t blame either of you if you have to break off to find someone else you’re looking for. And I have to make sure that idiot gets home safe.”
At least being a Knight—and the much better freedom of movement he’d gotten in his skirt since he’d leveled up last winter—meant that Kaifeng had an easy enough time catching up to Selenga. Clapping a hand on his cousin-in-law’s shoulder, Kaifeng heaved a dramatic sigh. “Leng-Leng, you can’t ******** do this to me, okay,” he said, trying to sound upset and mostly sounding like the fussiest of all possible mother hens. “If I don’t get you home to jiejie safe, they’re going to be upset with both of us. Then I’m gonna have to find a way to tear through reality like this again to help them drag you back home themself. Doesn’t that sound messy? I think it sounds so messy.”
And then, out of the corner of his eye, Kaifeng saw a flash of color that he recognized amidst the stormclouds and their oppressive everything. Turning toward it, he saw the other person he’d been looking for. Two other people, also, but the more important immediate concern was—“Gege!”
Helene, standing not too far away amidst a Mercury Squire (Rainier) and a pair of other senshi whom Kaifeng didn’t recognize (Surtur and Beira), got Kaifeng to smile like sunshine even amidst the mess they were all in right now. Holding on to Selenga’s wrist—but being gentle because his cousin would have been incredibly upset about Kaifeng returning Selenga to hir with any injuries, especially any that Kaifeng had caused, however unwittingly—Kaifeng tugged him along. Selenga only got released when they were close enough for Kaifeng to get right close to Helene, pressed up against his chest.
Yes, there were other people present. But relief moved Kaifeng to hug his man around the shoulders anyway.
“So glad you’re okay, zhiyin,” Kaifeng told him. “Gonna make sure you stay that way now, whatever happens.”
