The day had started like any other day, except for this one it had been rather vital that the alkidike woman Jerarda didn't sleep in. Laying in her bed, Jerarda was nearly dead to the world, the fact she snored faintly was probably the only signs she was still alive. Due to her rather...typical way of boasting she had stayed up far too late and when she awoke groggy she was only to discover the sun was up too high in the sky to be counted as 'early'. A jolt of adrenaline, a mouth cursing and her legs stiff from the sudden movement, Jerarda stumbled out of her bed fuming at herself.
I told you so.
Jerarda could almost hear the scolding voice that belonged to her best friend in her head. Recalling those countless time where her best friend Phenyo lectured her and always warned her... about going to bed early and here she was going to have try and explain why she was late. Make it sound like she had a good reason rather than just...being irresponsible.
Quickly the Jerarda moved a comb through her hair, tied up the rest and teased the ends into dreads, wrapping her hands in bandages as well her feet she soon set off. It never occurred to her to let anyone know she was leaving. Never once thinking to warn her friend Phenyo about her immediate departure. Phenyo wouldn't mind, after all she would probably lecture her for wasting time telling her about leaving. Ha. Jerarda was kidding herself if she thought Phenyo would actually encourage her to leave on this excursion.
Though Phenyo and Jerarda hardly ever saw eye to eye on things, Phenyo though was the only one who stuck by her side. Most people found Jerarda a bit over the top, a show off with all her boasting and arrogance. Still despite all what Phen put up with and patiently ..and Jerarda was so use to her being there she tended to take the girl for granted. If she wasn't careful her friend would leave her....but Jerarda didn't think that could be possible.
Exiting her underground home she climbed up the tree haphazardly fast, reaching out and grabbing some fruit before her foot skidded side wise and slipping and nearly plummeting to the ground if not for her quick movements. Oh yeah she was just THAT epic. Thinking everything about how she managed to just naturally save herself from immediate pain she bit into the fruit in hand and held it between her teeth as she set about sprinting to the meeting location.
Once she had arrived however she had been shocked to see it void of the party. Slowing to a stop she bit into the fruit finally and chewed in a hastily manner, thinking on what may of happened. Was it the wrong day? No...she was pretty sure it was today that they were leaving. It didn't even occur to her that...they had tired of waiting for her and left. Or ..they hadn't wanted her along in the first place so didn't wait at all. Such things never crossed her mind as she saw herself as the most valuable member on the team.
Slowly though it sunk in, they had left without her, and she was forced to accept that. As it settled in her mind she found herself getting angry, why would they leave without her? It made no sense to the alkidike girl after all Yansa seemed pleased that she would be going at least in Jerarda's mind she had. Though in truth pleased was the farthest thing that the elder had felt, not quite the right word to describe the elder's response. Grim acceptance? Most likely.
Tossing the pit behind her Jerarda felt the urge to punch something. She was always one to react first think later, if at all. Possibly the only reason she alive to this day was due to Phenyo's constant vigilance, and with her not being around at the moment Jera acted out rashly, punching a rock as if she believed her strength would break it into pieces from the sheer mighty strength of her blow.
All she ended up with was a very sore hand, luckily there was no one around to see her hoping around like a mad woman cursing up a storm as she held onto the painful appendage. Flexing her fingers she discovered nothing broken though the skin was cut and bleeding on her knuckles. It smart too bad the smarts didn't rub off on Jerarda. Sucking on the wound she tried to real her anger in, only finding herself snorting through her nose in irritation instead.
Well there was only one thing she could do at this point, the smart thing would of been to grow up and accept that due to her irresponsibility she had missed out on a possible life changing adventure. She would learn from her mistake and in the future be perhaps more humble and on time. But this was Jerarda and she refused to admit defeat even when she should. Deciding that she would in fact catch up with the party and force herself upon them seemed like the most logical next step for her.
In fact despite not having any idea where they were headed she moved off, picking up clues of their exit and cues from her other sister's where they had left through the forest to get on their way. Despite all her boasting Jera was actually pretty good at tracking people down, perhaps due to the fact she hated it when a foe escaped from her all mighty wrath. Since this was a large group of people rather than one person she found herself having a easier time of it all, in fact she was so sure she would catch up with them within the hour that she slowed down, took her time so that she could not be out of breath when she came upon them.
Silly girl.
An hour stretched into another, the sun was well overhead and starting to set in the west, and the trail was beginning to grow cold. Due to her arrogance thinking that she would catch up with them no problem. Shock began to set in when she realized that ...she had lost the trail. But...their movements had been so predictable! How could they just ..VANISH?
Taking a breath Jerarda tried to back track and she found that it wasn't they vanished the trail had gone cold. They must of been already a day ahead of her at the pace they were going. Good going Jerarda...waste time by catching up casually. Her arrogance had tripped her up again. Sighing she had a vague idea of where she needed to go and thus she began to sprint. Taking to the tree's meant a loss of speed and so she stuck to the ground. Feeling the impact of the ground against her feet she enjoyed the simple thrill of running at full speed.
As the tree's flashed by the sun began to set, it was already getting too dark to run at top speed, being forced to slow down she found herself gritting her teeth, but she refused to stop. Moving to the tree tops as the night time predators were more active at this point and she didn't exactly want to waste time having to fight one of those.
The night grew darker, the sounds of creatures that only came out at this time filled the air, and the alkidike woman was soon forced to slow down and rest. It felt like her chest was going to explode, she didn't quite realize just how sweaty she had gotten but now that she was resting a chill was beginning to get a hold of her. Standing again she stretched and figured a quick rest and she should get back at it.
This time however she went to pluck some fruit and munch on it as she hadn't eaten since this morning and she discovered upon resting that she was famished as well tired. As she ate her fruit Jerarda didn't realize that her body was refusing to move beyond lifting fruit and chewing. Soon the girl was dozing in the tree the fruit falling from her fingers her body leaning into the tree trunk and somehow gravity decided to be nice to her and not drag her from her perch and to the forest floor.
Perhaps it felt pity for her, after all she was going to wake up late again...and have to make up for lost time. For during the night, no insect bothered her, no creature tried to attack her and she didn't fall from her branch. Snoring away...one would wonder if that was the secret to keeping the beasts away.
