Reserved for solo - Growing up
After her encounter with Animah again the alkidike was left with many thing to think about, the young girl had been so adorable and she wasn't sure about her feelings on the mix breed. The young woman was still easy to embarrass but she had refrained from doing too much to the girl this time and even went as far as apologizing to her for the way she behaved the first time they had met. Sure it had been all in good fun, but obviously she had left a bit of a smear on the girls memories of the incident.
Moving through the forest of Jahaur, Jerarda had quickly climbed a tree upon hearing something rustling behind her. Distracted with her thoughts she realized that she could of been attacked by one of the many creatures that liked to call Jahaur home. Still as she perched on the branch she had now claimed as her own, and looked over the forest floor though she wasn't really looking for whatever had made that sound. It was more that she was going through the motions while her brain was a whir of other thoughts and emotions.
So she had apologized to Animah, but she wasn't the only person she needed to make amends with. There was still that shifter she had chased in the forests of Jahaur so long ago. Enitan wasn't it? Since she had only met the man once it was hard to really recall after all this time. Still out of everyone she had probably owed him the biggest apology, she had pretty much chased him through the forest like a mad woman.
Looking back she knew it had been stupid, and cruel. But back then she had been rather arrogant and...it showed. Actually looking back on her life she realized she hadn't been exactly the most wonderful person in the world to work with, how Phenyo put up with her antics was beyond her, especially how stubborn she could be when it came to doing almost everything.
Phenyo.
Jerarda slumped against the trunk of the tree and slid down to sit upon the branch she had been moments before standing on. As if suddenly having been slapped in the face with a startling realization.
If there was anyone else in the world who was owed an apology it was her best friend. She owed her 'sister' a lot, for putting up with her brashness, and headstrong ways. Thinking about everything she and her best friend had done together in the past...made her feel terrible. No wonder Phenny had been so angry with her up and leaving her without a word. It probably worried her to death and hurt her on so many levels.
Rubbing her temples again the alkidike sighed and closed her eyes to block out the images before her. Only to be haunted by the memories of Phenyo's face, expression and how she had still despite all this stuck to her side like glue.
"Oh Phenny..." Came her wistful voice as she opened her eyes so she didn't have to be reminded of the reproachful look the woman gave her a lot of the time. A nagging fear struck her, what if Phenyo was leaving her? They had separated ways since arriving in Jahaur, but Jerarda hadn't thought much of it other than perhaps her friend was being unreasonable and strange. No she had been jealous...and for good reason. Jera spent a lot of time with Rishima, doting on him almost as if he was her child.
"I've been so stupid.."
Staring ahead the young woman watched as the leaves in the canopy rustled with the slightest breeze and the sun filter onto the forest floor below it dappling it like the hide of some animal. Yes Phenyo would be owed a HUGE apology. But there would be more than just than saying sorry, she would really need to make Phenyo realize how much she was sorry.
Another sigh escaped her lips as she then found her gaze caught onto something sparkling on the forest floor below. Perhaps...she could make Phenyo something, something for her hair? Necklace? She knew Phenny was interested in archery but she seriously doubted she had enough skill to make something like a bow. Rolling onto her side she reached out to hold the branch she was laying on and peered more intently at the sparkling item on the forest floor. It was of course just one of the many crystasl that happened to grow in the forest of Jahaur.
An idea was forming in her head as she slipped off her branch and headed towards the forest floor. The alkidike woman moved with a sluggish sort of grace, like a cat that hadn't quite woken up yet. Until her feet lit upon the floor and with a small stretch. Spear lightly held in one hand she moved towards the crystal she had spotted from up above. It was being partially hidden by plants and after taking some of them off, she was able to appraise it. It wasn't overly large coming up to about her knee, though it was a lovely purple color, a bit too light in shade...but this could be a good start. Now came the question on how to break it up so she could make something out of it.
Looking at her spear she didn't exactly want to use her weapon to bash chunks of crystal off. Perhaps she could find a rock? Most rocks though wouldn't be tough enough to smash crystals...or so she thought. But now that she had an idea in her head it wasn't about to let her go. She would figure out a way to get the crystals together and make something special for Phenny as an apology.

Her hunt for stones had become and obsession, scowering the forest for them trying to find the right colors and shapes. She had learned to use a very large rock to smash into the larger crystals, it had proved very effective if loud. It tended to draw a lot of attention to herself and on more than one occasion she had to fight off creatures so she could collect her prizes.
Today was like the last couple of days, after her battle with the shifter she had come to terms with the idea that she wasn't the strongest person in the world. An earth shattering revelation though it had been shown to her on more than one occassion, like her battle with Rishima he had won, though she had declared it a draw. Though she knew that it was going to end up with her losing and her pride wasn't about to let her admit defeat.
Climbing a tree the woman dragged a rather large boulder up with her in a sling. It was heavy and hard going but it would all be worth it as long as she didn't miss when she dropped the boulder to the ground. Sweating as she finally managed to get it onto the branch she required she positioned herself slowly to where she would need to heft it. The branch bowed under the added weight of the rock, and her ears were trained for any sound of the branching giving away from under her feet. Still this had been the most effective if dangerous method of gathering the stones.
Gritting her teeth as she lifted the boulder the only thing she could be thankful is that this at least was a good way of training strictly muscle. A deep breath as she positioned herself so that she would be at the right angle to throw it. One...two....and THREE. With a grunt the rock was tossed and it didn't fly as much let gravity take its course and plummet it down with a loud CRASH it managed to hit the crystal though not dead on as she had hoped. Only managing to hit it on the side it had cracked but not shattered.
Sighing she rolled her sore shoulders and prepared herself for the agonizing trip back down onto the forest floor. Looking crossly at the boulder to where it had settled in the earth only a few inches away from the stone she had hoped it would break. Squatting she went to examine what bits did break off trying to see if there was anything of use on the floor before attempting to drag that rock back up a tree. The frown on her face deepened into a scowl as she picked up slivers of crystals that were just too thin or sharp to be used decoratively. Nope she would have to throw the rock again.
Hanging her head in defeat she stood up and for good measure gave the crystal a kick with her wrapped foot. It only served to make her foot hurt and she would have to take a small break waiting for the tingling sensation to abate before she would attempt to drag the rock back up. There had to be a better way of doing this...she was all for weight training but this was getting ridiculous.
Looking at the boulder she moaned realizing that it had sunk into the soft earth...which meant it would be even harder to lift this go around. Rubbing her temples she wanted to rage against the boulder but knew that it would be silly do so. Still her will to try again was ebbing quickly. Looking around she hoped maybe...she could find a smaller stone and since the crystal had already been weakened she may be able to just chip away at it this go around.
The problem was finding a rock that was lift able. Looking about the woman scrounged around the forest floor until she found a few that may be suitable. Moving over she was never more thankful that she wrapped her hands as she went to smash the first stone against the crystal. It shattered in her hand proving that the crystal was harder than the stone. Her hand tingling she shook it out, letting the remnants of the stone fall from her fingers to the ground. Examining the rest of her stones she tossed the ones that looked too fragile before she attempted again.
Her hand drew back and then lept forward smashing the stone against the chipped surface and was rewarded with a crack sounding through it. It was only a small one but if she could continuously strike at it perhaps she could actually manage to get chunks to fall off of it. It was..perhaps more laborious than hauling the large stone up the tree if that was even possible. The repeated motion was making her arm seize up and her hand cramp. But she was managing to get off bits and pieces with every other strike and that was enough to keep her going.
It wasn't until her hand was trembling so hard and her fingers so cramped around the rock that she finally dropped it cursing under her breath as her fingers felt like they could snap right off as she tried to move them. Okay so hauling a boulder was hard..but it was a lot faster than doing it this way. A lesson learned. No pain no gain. In this cause it was all sorts of pain and no gain. She would take the lesser of the two pains thank you.
Massaging her sore hand she looked to the pieces on the ground and slowly smiled. Okay at least her collection was getting pretty good. She hsould only need a few more colors and then have to figure out how to smooth out the edges and drill holes into them. That would be the hardest part. But she would be going back home with Rishima soon and at least she could try and ask one of her elder sisters on how to do it.

Reserved for Solo - Leading the pack
After arriving on the shores of Chibale islands including the scenes on the beach, which included her arriving with a half breed alkidike and and worse a shifter she had spoken to the elders trying to explain her actions. the elders responded with few words but instructed that Rishima and her to be led away. While moving on deeper into the island she called home, Rishima was then separated from her which greatly annoyed her but she didn't fight it for once. The elders knew what they were doing, or at least she hoped they did. Moving with one escort left she was led to an elders quarters where she had been firmly instructed to stay there and that she would be spoken with after the elders had dealt with the shifter.
So she was in solitary confinement and perhaps it was for good reason, sitting on the floor in the elder's quarters awaiting for them to return. The alkidike woman knew a guard had been positioned out side the room and she couldn't help but give a snort, as if she would try and run away. Still though, sitting cross legged on the floor she leaned onto one of her knees and stared at the wall before her. Eyes traced over familiar items, jars ..fetish's and the likes before they dropped to the ground and stared at nothing in particular.
Part of her was still pondering on how smart it had been bringing the shifter to the island, things hadn't looked too promising for the male, when they were greeted by arrows locked on their chests and spears aimed for the same point. It was probably only due to her presence that Rishima and the shifter hadn't been skewered on the spot. No they probably wouldn't of even made it to shore...two dead men laying in a boat that would most likely drift them into rocks. Food for the fish.
Part of her was bothered by that mental image. Were here sisters so paranoid they wouldn't even hear them out? If what the shifter was telling her was true if would effect them all and not just the outsiders. They could be outright ignoring warning signs that were being willingly given to them. And though there had been no outright wars in the last decade or two there were still some skirmish's here and there and she had to wonder...where they justifiable? Or...old hatreds getting the best of each other? How many lives had been lost due to miscommunication? Misreading each others actions? Or jumping to conclusions?
Jerarda knew she was guilty of that, using old grudges to justify her actions, heck to even full her them. Her 'attack' on the shifter Enitan, her complete lack of morals against Animah. At least she had been able to apologize to her but that was such a tiny dent in the scheme of things. Rubbing the back of her neck she sighed, all this waiting around was going to drive her nuts. If they were going to punish her she wished they would get it over with quickly.
Time trickled on slowly, and Jerarda resorted to opening up her travel pack and removing the stones she had collected while in the forest of Jahaur. Looking them over they were an assortment of purples and greens, the greens being a much harder color to find than the purple. Out of boredom she started to separate them by their sizes first, then when no one had come to give her a lecture or punishment she arranged them by color...then shape. Mother woman was starting to be one obsessed with the stones and finally she had a discard pile and a finely combed through selection of keepers.
Picking up the stones she intended to keep for her apology gift to Phenyo she began to look them over ponder on how she was to drill holes into these things without causing them to crumble. The stones were a bit on the larger side, but she knew that she could smooth them down smaller. Or at least that had been the idea. What could she use to smooth them? Round them? There were to many questions going through her head with little to no answers to them.
Leaning back the alkidike woman looked over the stones drawing a blank on how to achieve the next step. Moving a hand up she fiddled with a fetish that was in her hair. There must be people who knew the craft...or had attempted the same thing as she had intended to do. Jerarda may just have to go on a long journey to find said person. If they existed. Chewing on her lower lip she placed the crystal down and began to gather them up.
Perhaps she was fidgeting, and she had every right to be antsy as she waited for the elders to come and deal their punishment. She still felt she had done right by bringing the shifter to the islands. Besides, through her travels she had learned a lot about the other races. They weren't all that bad. In fact seeing their strengths and them working together really opened up her eyes. There had to be a way to unite the tribes...but there was so much bad blood between them...old wars, petty land squabbles. How could she bring everyone together?
These thoughts always ended making her head hurt. It was a heavy subject, one she would have to think long and hard on. Perhaps after she talked to the elders she would have a better idea of where to start. Leaning back she fiddled more with the stones before finally placing them back in the satchel she had brought them in. It was at that moment that someone entered the room and she was forced to pay attention.
Much to her surprise the shifter had been allowed to accomplish his task and he had already left the island. As the elder spoke Jerarda was starting to feel on edge, after all the way they spoke was as if they were trying to hide something from her. Sitting on the floor, in a kneeling position she waited and waited, her punishment was...trivial. She was to help look after younglings, do mundane things like fix roofs, and tend to the needs of anyone in the area. Oh and that Rishima was now missing.

Reserved for solo - the punishment
The punishment she was issued started as soon as it had been given. The young woman left the elder's hut a million things on her mind. Though she was mostly concerned about the fact Rishima had vanished. He wouldn't of abandoned the alkidikes? No! Never, the sheer fact she had even thought he may of caused herself to become angry with the ludicrous idea. Rishima was a lot of things but he would never betray her trust or their people. That much she knew.
So why would he just up and disappear? These thoughts plagued her as she went about her first round of punishment. Trying to help thatch roofs. Gathering weaving material she went about joining about three of four other older women in making the woman mats that were used to stop rani from pouring inside their homes. Sure they lived underground, but that was even more of a reason to make sure your house didn't end up flooded.
Though...in her current state of distress she was having a hard time making her woven strands anywhere near leak proof and was constantly wasting materials trying to undo and redo her weaving. One of the elder woman politely and patiently showed her how to do it, perhaps a half a dozen times but it was soon apparent that ..Jerarda was not cut out for this kind of work. So instead of getting her to repeatedly fail they requested she got out and put the thatching where holes had been dug in the ground to allow for air ventilation.
This went along smoothly as she helped her other sisters, dig holes and place the thatched pieces (that were not done by her) into their proper places. It was hard dirty work and her punishment was just starting. To be honest this was the first time she had ever had to do mundane things with her sisters. Though growing up she had been given chores and responsibilities she had always shrugged them off and snuck off to practice her hand to hand fighting style.
Working as a team she came to realize how much she admired her elders, and her people as a whole. Sure she had always been proud of her race, but she still couldn't help but let the pride bubble up from within her. This reminded her that Rishima was missing, worry wrought through her being as she pondered again where he could of gone and more importantly ...why. It probably would of helped if someone had told her that he had gone on a quest from the elders..then at least she would be worrying about the reason WHY he vanished and would be just worrying in general about his well being.
Guilt ran through her as she realized this was just what she had done to Phenyo years ago...and had stemmed their first real fight. Sighing she had already come to conclusions about her earlier actions and was going to fully apologize to her best friend once she found her...
Since their split at Jahaur she had been stubborn thinking that Phenyo was just being jealous about the attention Rishima had been receiving fro her. Though now she was realizing just how much of a strain she had been putting on their relationship, just out of plain ignorance. Sighing she returned her focus to her work. The thatching was done and covered in dirt and sweat she went to go give a quick shower before joining her other sisters for the noon day meal.
Eating although she had little appetite she finished quickly and went about her next task. Looking after the younglings. Or rather helping to look after them. It seemed even the elders weren't going to let the lone hot headed woman look after a bunch of kids by herself. And though Jerarda had nothing against kids by the end of her shift she was drained. Perhaps more so than doing all the hard labour with thatching houses.
Dragging herself to the great mother tree, her next part of her punishment was to help tend her. It was a sacred task and it was perhaps even harder than anything else as it took a lot of patience and gentle care to tend to it. Jera had gotten dressed in the proper ceremonial clothes before she went to work on weeding the small plants out carefully and placing them on a damp cloth to be replanted further away. They had to make sure that nothing threatened the life of their great mother tree and thus other plants had to be removed.
This was possible the worst part of her punishment. There was something about the utter silence, the awe you felt being in the presence of the tree and witnessing alkidike couples coming up to tend their lotus flowers with such devotion and care. One would think it was so peaceful, tranquil...full of love and hope for the future. And it wasn't that Jerarda didn't feel these things, she was just horrendously nervous about making a mistake, hurting the mother tree she couldn't relax to enjoy these feelings.
Her legs were cramping from the kneeling position she was in, her hands joining in that sensation as she went to carefully pull out a plant before placing it on the damp cloth. Having to move was agony each time she was forced to shift her location into a new zone where she had yet to work. The humidity caused her to feel like she wanted to sleep. All she had to do was either focus on what she was doing and not think at all, or be forced to think over and over in her head things that she didn't have answers to.
And she would have to do the same thing tomorrow. Sure tomorrow she wouldn't have to thatch roofs. But given some other manual labour to help with, then once again looking after younglings before coming back to the great tree. She was going to dread coming to the tree over and over again...but she was to continue with these chores until the elders relieved her of it.
